Who may perform the installation?

The installation may only be performed by suitably qualified professional electrical specialists who have been briefed on local and operational conditions.

1.2 Safety and danger notes

The central battery system ONLITE central CPS is part of the emergency and general lighting system and consequently part of a building's safety equipment. Installation and commissioning of the system must be performed with the appropriate care and precision.

d DangerPlease note that the luminaires are supplied with 216 V DC in case of emergency operation. Mortal danger by electrical shock!

d DangerOnly qualified electrical specialists may perform work on the 230 V mains. Wiring of current-carrying lines as well as signal and control lines must be done in accordance with the relevant guidelines and standards. National guidelines and regulations applicable in the country in which the system is being installed and operated have to be observed.

d DangerImproper use of the batteries or battery-powered parts of the system can cause risk of injury or mortal danger from high current or arcs that can occur briefly on battery discharge.Ensure that the batteries are connected to the correct poles!

d DangerNon-authorised or non-professional system installation and handling may result in outages of the safety equipment. This implies immediate danger for people and the security equipment itself. In addition, damages to machines and plants as well as loss of productions are possible consequences at production sites.

d CautionNon-authorised or non-professional system installation and handling may result in damages of the batteries. The contained electrolyte sulphuric acid is extremely caustic and can lead to heavy injuries!

d CautionOnly luminaires with an operation voltage of 230 V AC (50/60 Hz) and 230 V DC may be connected to the outputs for the emergency lighting end circuits of the ONLITE central CPS system. Disregarding the instructions may result in damages to system and luminaires.

d CautionShort circuits and incorrect polarity may damage the batteries or parts of the system.

d CautionPay attention to the line lengths of the output circuits. The maximum length of 300 m may not be exceeded. Disregarding the instructions may result in outages of the emergency lighting, because the proper communication between the system components is not guaranteed.

d CautionThe batteries may not be stored without maintaining for longer than 3 months. Disregarding the instructions may result in damages to the batteries. When storing the batteries without conservation charging, the battery capacity decreases up to the defect of the battery.

1.3 Designated use

The central battery system ONLITE central CPS is designed for controlling and monitoring an emergency lighting system. Any use in excess thereof is not allowed.

The adjustment and operation of the system is restricted to authorised technical staff.

Personal dangers may occur in case of

• improper use• disregarding the safety regulations

The central battery system ONLITE central CPS and connected parts of the system may only be operated if all system components are in perfect technical condition and in compliance with

• the safety and danger notes contained in this instruction manual,• the operating and safety instructions stipulated by the system operator,• the commissioning notes and installation instruction supplied with the central battery

system ONLITE central CPS.• the technical data listed in the appendix.

Failures which cannot be removed by acknowledging are to be reported to the responsible service person.

Operating and safety regulations arise from this instruction manual as well as from organisational instructions and from general as well as technical guidelines and regulations for accident prevention.

The manufacturer will not assume warranty or liability for consequential damages that occur due to:

d CautionVerify whether electrical installations comply with the application environment. Special environmental conditions (e. g. areas subject to explosion hazards or areas with an aggressive atmosphere) require special equipment and installations.

d CautionVerify whether all used ballasts and luminaires fulfill the requirements of an emergency lighting system and the operation at an ONLITE central CPS system.

d CautionIf mains, which supplies the ONLITE central CPS system, is interrupted longer than three days, the battery has to be disconnected to prevent from deep discharge and thus damage of the battery.

2 Short description of the ONLITE central CPS system

The central battery system ONLITE central CPS is used in medium-sized and large emergency lighting systems to

• supply the emergency lighting from the emergency lighting mains in case the general lighting fails;

• automatically switch to battery emergency lighting operation on failure of the AC emergency lighting mains;

• automatically monitor the functional state of the emergency lighting system and to display any faults which may occur;

• document and store the operating state of the system in the electronic test book.

Modularity is the main feature of the central battery system ONLITE central CPS. Depending on the number of required emergency luminaires, the system can be assembled from individual modules:

• Batteries arranged in series in combination with a charging module build the emergency power supply for 216 V DC.

• The control unit (Touch PC) monitors and controls the system. Using this control unit, the emergency lighting system can be configured. This way you can, for example, set up circuits or perform mandatory emergency lighting tests.

• The sub-distributions supply the luminaires on the outgoing circuits. Two types of sub-distributions are available:- Sub distribution S: Circuit monitoring- Sub distribution E: Individual monitoringThe modular system design allows to mix sub-distributions with circuit monitoring and modules with individual monitoring of luminaires within one ONLITE central CPS system.

3 Operation

The central battery system ONLITE central CPS is operated menu-driven via the touch panel. All messages (system, status and error messages) of the controller are displayed on the display. Selecting menus or tabs, entering or changing parameters as well as executing commands is done via the appropriate buttons and icons on the touch panel.You can operate the touch panel using the suitable pen (recommended) or your finger.

3.1 Description of the user interface

3.1.1 User interface: the start page as an example

Operating and display elements of the user interface

Display of the system statusIn the middle of the start page the system status is displayed in detail. The following status are possible:

Designation Function

System name (1) System name which can be defined in the project data (see chap. 11.1 on page 63).

System information (2) Display of the current values for battery voltage, charging current and battery temperature.

System status (3) Overview on the system status.

System time (4) Display of current date and time. Further information on the system time can be found on page 39.

Status bar (5) Display of the last system message including date and time. All messages are stored in the test book (see chap. 5.3 on page 23).

Login (6) Opens the login screen. Here the login is performed using user profile and password (see chap. 4.2 on page 17).

Logo (7) Typing on the logo displays the installed software versions (see chap. 3.4 on page 15).

Toolbar (8) Toolbar icons used for navigation (see chap. 3.2 on page 13).

ready-to-operate The device is ready for operation.

The maintained light is controlled by a timer. Manual switching is not possible.

SD power failure No power failure exists in the sub-distribution of the general lighting.

3.1.2 Tabs and menus

For a comfortable navigation within the ONLITE central CPS software, the functions are grouped in tabs (1). Typing on the tab icon opens the corresponding page.Within a tab, the software functions are also grouped and can be accessed via menus (2).

i You can also use the arrow icons in the toolbar to step between tabs and menus (see chap. 3.2 on page 13).

3.2 Toolbar

In the following table you can find a description of the available toolbar icons. The toolbar is located on the right side of the user interface (see chap. 3.1.1 on page 10).

Icon Function

The >arrow right< opens the next page or tab.Depending on the user profile you are logged in, typing on this icon on the start page leads to the system configuration.

The >arrow left< opens the previous page or tab.

The >arrow page up< leads to the next higher level.

If a sub menu is activated, typing on the button leads to the next higher tab.

The >arrow up< allows to scroll upwards in lists.

The >arrow down< allows to scroll downwards in lists.

The >?< button opens the online help. The help is displayed for the menu in which you are currently located.

Touch the >info< button to display system information.

Touch the >start page< button to open the start page. Also, the status of the system is displayed via the button.

Green: The system is running without error.Yellow: The system is not running in standard modus. Perhaps a test is/was performed. There is no urgent need for action.Red: The system is malfunctioning. There is urgent need for action.

If the button is not shaded by any colour, no sub-distributions are configured.

3.4 Displaying the software version

p Touch the ZUMTOBEL logo located on the bottom right of the user interface to display the software versions installed on your ONLITE central CPS system.a The >system software versions< page appears.

p To go back to the start page, touch the button.

Following information is displayed on the >system software versions< page:

4 User profiles

4.1 General information

The ONLITE central CPS software provides a user management function to manage access rights via user profiles. The user profiles are predefined and cannot be changed. Login to a particular user profile is done by entering a password.

After starting the ONLITE central CPS software, you are automatically logged in with the user profile >Guest<. This is displayed by the closed lock icon in the status bar.

i After 60 minutes without any user activity on the user interface, the user profile >Guest< is activated automatically.

Overview on user profiles and access rights

Icon Description

User profile >Guest< activated. Typing on the lock icon opens the login screen. Here you can log on with a user profile (see chap. 4.2 on page 17).

One of the user profiles >Standard<, >Maintenance< or >Service< is activated. Typing again on the lock icon activates the user profile >Guest<. The start page is displayed.

Guest >Guest< users have access to the start page and the pages showing the system information (SD overview, luminaire status, alarm list, test book and luminaire logbook).

Standard In addition to the functions of the user profile >Guest<, the >home facility management< page with switching functions (area switches, switch light on/off, maintained light on/off and control test) is available.

Maintenance In addition to the functions of the user profile >Standard<, the system can be blocked and unblocked on the >home facility management< page. Furthermore, the tabs >Test< (function test, luminaire/daily test, duration test, switch over (mains - battery), deep discharge/charger test) and >Time settings< (timers, system clock) are available.

ONLITE

Service In addition to the functions of the user profile >Maintenance<, all settings for SD setup, factory setting, system configuration and communication are available.

Only for service

Admin The user profile >Admin< is exclusively accessible by the service of Zumtobel Lighting GmbH. The administrator functions are not described in this instruction manual.

4.2 Login in with a user profile

To log in with a particular user profile, proceed as follows:

1. Touch the lock symbol in the status bar.a The login screen appears.

2. From the list box >user< select the user profile you want to log on to.3. Enter the appropriate password in the input field >password<.4. Touch on >login<.

a The login screen is closed and the start page is displayed. If the login was successful, the opened lock symbol is displayed in the status bar.

i To log off, touch the opened lock symbol in the status bar. The user profile >Guest< is activated and the start page is displayed.

5 Displaying system information

The ONLITE central CPS software provides a clear visualisation of the system status. In a few steps, the most important information on the system can be displayed. The following pages are available:

• SD overview (see chap. 5.1 on page 18)• Luminaire status (see chap. 5.1.2 on page 19)• Alarm list (see chap. 5.2 on page 21)• Test book (see chap. 5.3 on page 23)• Luminaire logbook (see chap. 5.4 on page 25)

5.1 Sub-distributions

On the >SD overview< page, an overview on the status of the sub-distributions is displayed. Up to nine sub-distributions are possible. This makes it easier for the person responsible for maintenance to keep an overview of the entire system.

p To open the overview of sub-distributions, touch the >info< button in the toolbar.a The >SD overview< page appears. The symbols show the status of each individual

sub-distribution (see chap. 5.1.1 on page 19).

Now you can:• display the luminaire status of the sub-distributions (see chap. 5.1.2 on page 19).• open the alarm list (see chap. 5.2 on page 21).• display the faulty luminaires of all sub-distributions. For this purpose, touch the >Show

all faulty luminaires< button.

5.1.1 Symbols indicating the status of the sub-distribution

The following table shows the symbols that are used to indicate the status of the sub-distributions on the >SD overview< page (see chap. 5.1 on page 18).

5.1.2 Displaying the luminaire status

On the >luminaire status< page, the status of each individual luminaire is displayed. You can select the sub-distribution and a circuit range for which you want to display the luminaire status.In addition to the optical error display, further information such as location, lamp type, wattage, switch mode, and address of each luminaire is available.

i Displaying the luminaire status is only possible for individually monitored luminaires.

Symbol Description

The sub-distribution is working without error.Note: Despite this display, luminaires can be faulty. This depends on the number of luminaire errors that are defined to be allowed for the sub-distribution (see chap. 9.1.4 on page 43).

At least one luminaire error exists in the sub-distribution.

A power failure exists in the sub-distribution.

A luminaire error exists in the sub-distribution and the mains supply in the general lighting failed.

A test is currently performed for the sub-distribution. This status is displayed after you have, for example, started a function test.

1. To open the luminaire status of a sub-distribution, touch the icon of a sub-distribution on the >SD overview< page (see chap. 5.1 on page 18).a The >luminaire status< page appears. The symbols show the status of each individual

luminaire as well as the complete circuit (see chap. 5.1.3 on page 20).

2. To display the current luminaire status of a circuit range, select the sub-distribution and a circuit range for which the current luminaire status should be displayed. Confirm your selection with >select<.

3. To display the faulty luminaires of the selected circuit range, touch the >Show faulty luminaires only< button.

4. To go back to the >SD overview< page, touch the >arrow page up< button.

5.1.3 Symbols indicating the luminaire status

The following table shows the symbols that are used to indicate the luminaire status on the >luminaire status< page (see chap. 5.1.2 on page 19).

Symbol Description

The line monitor is working without error.

The line monitor reports a power failure in the general lighting.

On the >alarm list< page, all pending alarms are displayed with message location, message text and timestamp. If an alarm is no longer pending, it is automatically deleted from the list.

5.2.1 Acknowledgment of deep discharge protection and manual reset

d DangerAfter the deep discharge protection was activated, the batteries have to be charged completely (approx. 10 hours) before the system is fully functional. 5.3 Test book

On the >test book< page, all test results and messages are displayed in plain language which are reported by the ONLITE central CPS system. Using the filter function, the test book entries can be sorted by message location, message text, timestamp and alarm type. Additionally, an export function for exporting the test book as text file via USB interface is available. Thus, further processing of the data and printing the test book on each PC is possible without any problems.

This chapter contains the information how to:

• display the test book (see chap. 5.3.1 on page 23)• use the filter function of the test book (see chap. 5.3.2 on page 24)• export the test book as text file (see chap. 5.3.3 on page 24)

i The test book is recorded and stored for three years in a non-volatile memory. The entries can not be deleted.

5.3.1 Displaying the test book

5.3.2 Using the filter function of the test book

V The test book is opened (see chap. 5.3.1 on page 23).

1. Activate the list boxes >message location<, >message text< and >alarm type< and select the desired filter criteria.

i In the list of message texts, the total number of entries of the message type is displayed after each entry. The following alarm types are selectable:- alarm in: The message has arrived.- alarm out: The message is not longer available, e. g. after removing a failure.- alarm repeat: The present message was not removed within a time defined by the system. Thus, it is sent again by the system.

2. If desired, you can enter a time range (start time and end time) in the input fields >timestamp< to show only messages which have been sent within this time range. Possible inputs are date and/or time.

3. To activate the entered filter criteria, touch the >select< button.a Only the test book entries are displayed which match your filter criteria.

i Filter criteria can be combined as desired. If no entries are displayed, check your filter criteria and change them, if necessary.

5.3.3 Exporting the test book as text file

V The test book is opened (see chap. 5.3.1 on page 23).

1. Touch the >USB export< button.a The screen for starting the USB export appears.

2. Touch >USB export<.a The test book will be exported as text file (.txt) to the root directory of the memory stick.

The exported text file contains the same information as shown on the display.

The >luminaire logbook< page displays all luminaires with their current status. Using the filter function, the luminaire logbook entries can be sorted by sub-distribution, circuit, luminaire, timestamp and status.

The >home facility management< page provides quick access to frequently used functions of the emergency lighting system. Here you find the following functions used to:

• switch the area switches on and off• switch lights on and off• trigger the control test• switch the maintained light on and off• block and unblock the system

Switching the area switches on and offIt is possible to assign sub-distributions, circuits and groups to an area switch. The assignment is done by assigning the switching logic >area< (B1-B7) in the configuration settings of the corresponding area.

Switching lights on and offUsing the function >Switch light on/off<, all luminaires connected to the ONLITE central CPS system are switched on or off. This function makes it easier to locate faulty luminaires in the building.

p Touch the >Switch light on/off< button. a All luminaires in all distributions are switched on and supplied with mains (AC) by the

ONLITE central CPS system. The colour of the button changes from blue (light OFF) to yellow (light ON).

i The function is aborted automatically after 60 minutes (light OFF).

Triggering the control testUsing the function >control test<, a check of all luminaires is performed.

p Touch the >control test< button.a The test is started immediately. The colour of the button changes from blue to yellow

i The control test checks the system only for faulty luminaires. The test will not be started if the system reports no faulty luminaires.

Switching the maintained light on and offUsing the function >maintained light on/off<, all luminaires which have been programmed with the function "maintained light" are switched on or off.

switched on or off. The colour of the button changes from blue to yellow or vice versa.

7 Test functions

The function of emergency lighting systems must be checked regularly due to legally required regulations. The results of the emergency lighting tests must be documented. These emergency lighting tests can be performed using the ONLITE central CPS software. Therefore, the >test functions< menu is available which provides access to the following functions:

• Function test (see chap. 7.1 on page 30)• Luminaire/daily test (see chap. 7.2 on page 32)• Duration test (see chap. 7.3 on page 34)• Switching from mains to battery operation (see chap. 7.4 on page 35)• Deep discharge/charger test (see chap. 7.5 on page 36)

All results of the function and duration tests are stored in the test book for three years (see chap. 5.3 on page 23).

i The functions described in this chapter are only accessible for users that are logged in with the user profiles >Maintenance< and >Service< or higher. An overview on the available user profiles can be found in chap. 4 on page 16.

7.1 Function test

The operational readiness of the emergency luminaires is checked by the function test. During this test, the switching over from mains to battery operation is checked (for a duration of 2 minutes) and the correct function of all connected luminaires.

i According to DIN VDE 0108, the function test must be performed weekly. The test results must be stored for at least two years. By request, the operator must be able to show the written documentation of the performed emergency lighting tests.Depending on the system configuration and number of connected luminaires, the function test may be very time-consuming.

7.2 Luminaire/daily test

There are two test functions available on the >luminaire/daily test< page:

• Luminaire test: Checks the correct function of a particular selection of luminaires.• Daily test: Switches over from mains to battery operation (only timer controlled).

Both tests can also be executed automatically by using a timer (see chap. 7.2.2 on page 33).

7.2.1 Performing a luminaire test

1. On the start page, touch the button to open the system configuration.2. Select the menu item >luminaire/daily test< on the >test< tab.

3. To limit the luminaire test to a particular sub-distribution or a particular circuit, touch >modify selection< in the screen areas >SD< and >circuit<.

4. To save your settings, touch >select<.5. Touch >modify selection< in the >action< screen area and select the function to be

performed for the selection made before.a The drop-down field is closed and the selected setting is displayed.

6. To save your settings, touch >select<.7. Touch the >start action< button.

a The selected action is executed. The button colour changes from blue to yellow (flashing).

8. Typing again on the button stops the test.

7.3 Duration test

The duration test simulates the battery operation. The batteries of all connected consumers are discharged in order to check the prescribed nominal operation time. The duration test lasts as long as the nominal operation time (1 hour or 3 hours).

i According to DIN VDE 0108, the duration test must be performed yearly. The test results must be stored for at least two years. By request, the operator must be able to show the written documentation of the performed tests.

Perform the duration test not within the required operation times and ensure that the batteries are re-charged in time before operation starts again.The system is designed that way that the batteries are re-charged fully within 10 hours.

d CautionIf there is not enough time for fully charging the batteries after a duration test, the batteries must not be discharged more than 2/3 of its overall capacity. If this limit is reached, the duration test is automatically aborted to protect the batteries from damage.

i The duration test is aborted automatically if the cut-off voltage of the battery is reached and the deep-discharging protection is activated.

7.5 Deepdischarge/charger test

There are three functions available on the >deepdischarge/charger test< page:

• Deepdischarge simulation: Simulates deep discharging of the battery.• Test automatic charge: Checks whether power charging of the battery is possible.• Load currents measurement: Measures the load currents of an individual sub-distribution.

7.5.1 Deep discharge simulation

During deep discharge simulation, the discharging of the battery is simulated until the deep discharge protection (180 V DC) is activated. The system is ready for operation immediately after the test.

The >time settings< tab is used for setting up the following functions:

On the >timers< page, the execution time for any of the 8 timers can be set. Timers T1 to T4 are reserved for maintained light functions. This means, all circuits which have been configured for maintained light can be switched on and off by these timers. Timers T5 to T8 can be freely assigned to particular circuits (see chap. 9.2 on page 45) or groups (see chap. 9.5 on page 56).

Defining a tolerance value reduces the number of error messages. Example: If "0" is defined for "luminaire min. (W)", the system sends an error message for each faulty luminaire in the sub-distribution.

monitor SD Monitoring of the sub-distribution. Only with activated monitoring function, an error message is sent in case of a sub-distribution failure.

no. of measuring modules

Number of available measuring modules. By default, only one measuring module is available per sub-distribution (measuring range < 4700 W).

The luminaires configuration for individually monitored sub-distributions is automated in the ONLITE central CPS software. After selecting a circuit, all installed luminaires can be searched and easily addressed. Additionally, grouping of individually monitored luminaires is possible. The ONLITE central CPS software supports 20 luminaires per circuit.

Individually monitored luminaires can be assigned to a group. Using the grouping, particular functions can be performed for any number of individually monitored luminaires. The ONLITE central CPS software supports 15 groups which can be configured freely with switching logics (see chap. 9.5 on page 56) and several factory-made defined groups (e. g. maintained light).

Groups can be used in the luminaires addressing (DALI) to group individually monitored luminaires (see chap. 9.4 on page 51). The ONLITE central CPS software supports 15 groups per sub-distribution.

9.6 Configuring special switches

On the >special switches< page, up to three switching logics can be assigned to special switches. Special switches are predefined logics or messages which are valid for the entire sub-distribution they are defined for. If you assign messages to switching logics, the messages are displayed in the SD overview in the case the defined switching logic occurs (see chap. 5.1 on page 18).

The following special switches are available:

To configure a special switch, proceed as follows:

Special switch Description

PD message - SD 1 (-SD 8)

Allows up to eight line monitor messages. For each message a maximum of three switching logics can be assigned. If an event occurs which has been defined using the switching logics, the event is displayed on the >SD overview< page (see chap. 5.1 on page 18).

logic L1 (-L6) Allows the definition of a function (logic) of a maximum of three switching logics. The defined logic can be assigned to a circuit in the circuit configuration (see chap. 9.2.3 on page 46).

to SDx - NS5(-NS8)

Allows the linkage of several sub-distributions.

Example: The normally open contact (NOC) S7 of SD1 should switch on SD2 at the same time. In SD1, the NOC S7 is assigned to the message "to SDx - NS5". SD2 should switch to AC emergency operation in the event of receiving the message "to SDx - NS5". Thus, the switching logic "to SDx - NS5" is assigned to special switch "PD SDA".

PD SDA Switches the entire sub-distribution to AC emergency operation.

Note: The switching input (S1) of the line monitor is factory-bridged. If you remove this bridge or if the line monitor is activated, the entire sub-distribution switches to AC emergency operation.

11 System settings

This chapter provides information about:

• Changing the project data• Changing the language• Updating the system

i The functions described in this chapter are only accessible for users that are logged in with the user profile >Service<. An overview on the available user profiles can be found in chap. 4 on page 16.

11.1 Changing the project data

The system designation on the start page (see chap. 3.1.1 on page 10) and the texts of the area switches shown on the >home facility management< page (see chap. 6 on page 27) can be defined. So it is possible to easily customise the software's user interface according to your special needs.

The software user interface can be displayed in several languages. The languages German, English, French, Italian and Dutch are available.

11.3 Updating the system

The ONLITE central CPS touch panel system software can be updated. For this purpose, you have two possibilities:

• Update via Internet (see chap. 11.3.1 on page 65)• Update via USB device (see chap. 11.3.2 on page 66)

After selecting the update function, the software checks automatically whether the update server can be accessed via Internet connection or whether an USB device (e. g. memory stick) with correct update files is connected to the touch panel. Depending on the result of this check, the suitable update procedure is selected automatically.

If the update is possible via Internet and USB device at the same time, the USB procedure takes precedence.

11.3.2 Update via USB device

V Valid update in the root directory of the USB device available.

12 Changing the network settings

The ONLITE central CPS touch panel provides a network interface (RJ45). Thus, each ONLITE central CPS system can be connected to an existing network using the TCP/IP protocol.

The network connection can be used to

• update the system software of the ONLITE central CPS touch panel via Internet (see chap. 11.3 on page 64).

• visualise and operate the system via remote control on each PC using a standard Internet browser.

i The functions described in this chapter are only accessible for users that are logged in with the user profile >Service<. An overview on the available user profiles can be found in chap. 4 on page 16.

Proceed as follows to change the network settings:

V Log in with the user profile >Service<.

V Network cable connected to the ONLITE central CPS touch panel and to the network.

V Valid settings for IP address, subnet mask, default gateway and DNS (Domain Name System) available.

1. On the start page, touch the button to open the system configuration.2. Select the >communication< tab.

a The >network TCP/IP< page appears.

3. Select the desired configuration method from the list box:• static: You have to enter the network settings. Please continue with step 4.• DHCP: The network settings are assigned automatically by a DHCP server. You do

not have to enter any data. Confirm your selection with >save<.
