A striking testimony. Yasmina Khadra’s revelations about his life and his letter to the children on two shores of the Mediterranean

Yasmina Khadra had already talked about his past in his books,

especially in L’Ecrivain in 2001, or the following year in L’imposture des

mots (Julliard). But in this latest book, for the first time he gives a

detailed account of his origins, joining the army, his experience and the

horrors of the war against terrorism in Algeria.

In six long, fascinating chapters, he confides in Catherine Lalanne:

1. the origins of his family; 2. his enrolment in the army; 3. the company

of women; 4. his vision of Islam; 5. his double belonging to the opposite

shores of the Mediterranean 6. A moving letter addressed to French

and Algerian children.

Never has Yasmina Khadra written so freely about his relations

with women and Islam, nor spoken so frankly about young people

in Algeria and France today.

The author’s exceptional reputation and the great success of his books.

Yasmina Khadra, was born in the Sahara in 1955. His father was a nurse and his mother, a nomad. Today, he has several million readers in the world. Adapted for film, theatre, comic books and choreography, his novels have been translated into 42 languages. Born Mohamed Moulessehoul, at the age of nine he was entrusted to an Algerian military school, went on to become an officer in the army and took part in the war against terror. He left the institution in 2000 with the rank of commandant, to devote all his time to his vocation: writing. He has been living in France since 2001.

Why is the sky blue, the sun yellow and the night black? Celestial phenomena explained to all readers by one of France’s most distinguished scientists.

Why is the sky blue? What is a green ray? What colour would the sky be if

we were on Mars, Venus or Titan? Are there any rainbows on the Moon?

At the crossroads of physics and astronomy, the great physicist-

epistemologist Jean-Marc Lévy-Leblond, a talented raconteur, explains the

celestial phenomena all around us, the things that put so much colour into

our world.

He talks about physical phenomena as well as great minds like Galileo,

whom he believes to have given us the essential idea that the celestial world

and our earthy world are one and the same, governed by the same laws of

physics - contrary to the Aristotelian tradition that saw our world as being

one of imperfection and change – separate from the celestial world, one of

perfection, unchanging in nature.

A magnificent text about the questions and the pleasures that science

inspires.

A lively, original narrative that emanates enthusiasm

What becomes of a drop of water? An astonishing lesson in geography

Rivers and streams converge and bifurcate, we see them there, yet they

are constantly moving on.

What happens between the moment when water springs from a source

and when it finally flows into the sea? What is the destiny of a drop of

water?

From the world’s greatest rivers to the tiniest streams, the most

impressive falls to the still waters of the calmest pools, Jean-Christophe

Bailly tells us the story of these features that shape our countryside,

inviting the reader to enjoy a fascinating geographical trip. He talks

about travelling, territory, nature and inhabitants with erudition,

pertinence and poetry.

The latest news from black holes

Black holes are fascinating things. Today, we are almost certain that they

exist and that they number hundreds of millions in our Galaxy. In black

holes, space and time are very different from our notions, they are even

interchangeable!

How are black holes created and what are the strange phenomena around

and inside them? Many questions are still being asked and exciting new

ideas are constantly emerging.

Here, we see how recent theories lead to an incredible scenario of

bouncing stars, accelerating towards the future.

A complex phenomenon is made accessible

New enriched edition What will become of a society so keen to break away from religion that it lays itself open to a void, and its violent, irrational reactions?

Entirely updated edition, augmented by important new chapters on

religious fundamentalism, and Europe.

During a long dialogue published for the first time in France, and some

texts assembled here also for the first time, Julia Kristeva sweeps away

our preconceived ideas about religion and Christianity, inviting us to a

remarkable analysis of our “incredible need to believe”.

Starting out from a question about religion’s place in postmodern

societies, the author analyses the importance of this need to believe

and explores the subject from literary, philosophical and religious

angles, with texts about Christianity and suffering, two articles about

John-Paul II and Catholicism’s role in the world.

“Contrary to Freud, I do not say that religion is only an illusion and a

source of neuroticism. The time has come to recognize, without

worrying about ‘striking fear’ into the hearts of the faithful or agnostics,

that the history of Christianity prepared the way for humanism...”

The 1st edition in 2007 was a great success:

Julia Kristeva’s reputation and renown.

Julia Kristeva, born in Bulgaria, has been living and working in France since 1966. Linguist, psychoanalyst and author, she has written many essays and novels, translated and studied all over the world. Professor at the Institut universitaire de France and University Denis Diderot in Paris, she also teaches in the United States and Canada, and regularly at the New School for Social Research in New York. In 2004, Julia Kristeva received the prestigious Holberg Prize for all her publications, and in 2006, the Hannah Arendt Prize.

PHILOSOPHY

New enriched edition Instead of talking about biodiversity in an abstract manner, enter the multiplicity of living things, discover the infinite variety of the animal world

The disturbing experience that makes us sometimes look an animal in

the eye lies at the heart of this essay nourished with literature and

paintings, written by Jean-Christophe Bailly, philosopher, poet,

publisher and man of the theatre. If, strictly speaking, animals do not

think, they do possess a “thoughtfulness” that blurs the borderline,

disturbs our certainties and challenges our supremacy.

In this moving, profound book, the author explains why animals have

become a central issue, for him of course but also for all those who are

fascinated by diversity and worried about all the things that threaten it.

The influence exerted by this essay made the author come back to the

question again and again, in France, but also in the United States.

"Animals are silent masters" in his words. Each animal is considered as

a path, a line that can be followed in thought. But in a world engaged in

a mad chase for growth, where the species are treated with cynicism

and violence, it is natural that a plea in favour of animals, in favour of

the consideration we should give them, should become a political issue.

Falling in love at 75 !

Star of children’s books, Susie Morgenstern continues the story of her

romantic life in this second book ‘for grown ups’.

Now over 70, after thirty years living the memory of her first husband -

mathematician Jacques Morgenstern – she meets an older man,

Georges, on the Internet. Swiss, he too lost his spouse. Their explosive

meeting is told here with irresistible humour whose lightness and

delicacy opens the door to all the big questions: disruption in families,

accompanying the sick, difficulties of adaptation… The author puts the

accent on the dynamism of life restored: joy, sexuality, deep

understanding… A wonderful testimony about love between seniors. Originality and quality of a story told by two voices

Topical theme

Susie Morgenstern a 73-year-old Franco-American, has 140 children’s books to her credit, among them many prize-winners. She was born in Newark, like three other American authors she admires: Stephen Crane, Paul Auster and Philip Roth, whose work was the subject of her thesis.

An essay about walking in the Bible as a place of meeting with God

Walking is one of humanity’s powerful experiences. In the Bible, it is

primordial. As we walk, we can meet God, he makes himself known to

us along the way.

The author guides us on a free trip through the Bible, while remaining

attentive to the many facets of walking. Our path follows the thread of

history as the Bible tells it, from the nomadic lands of Genesis to the

desert of Exodus, before gaining the promised land.

In the New Testament, the author leads the reader on the roads of

Galilee, following in Jesus’s footsteps. The believer becomes a trekker

and a pilgrim.

A Biblical essay and a spiritual guide

A useful companion for pilgrims in the Holy Land

For many years Father Jacques Nieuviarts, Assumptionist, was chaplain to students and professors of biblical studies at the Theology department of the Institut Catholique in Toulouse. He often participates in pilgrimages to the Holy Land.

An outstanding book and an exceptional testimony by the author of best-seller Le jardinier de Tibhirine to mark the beatification of the monks of Tibhirine

In 1996, seven monks of Tibhirine, in Algeria, were kidnapped and

murdered; the film ‘Of Gods and Men’ (2011) tells their story. Very soon

after the tragedy, the project for a new community to maintain the

monastic presence ended in failure. In 2001, the Atlas monastery was

entrusted to a priest and a farmer, Jean-Marie Lassausse. He would

direct the exploitation of the land and welcome visitors and pilgrims,

more numerous than ever. For fifteen years, despite the difficulties and

a weighty past, he looked after this haven of prayer and Islamo-

Christian friendship in Algeria. A moving testimony from one of the

Tibhirine martyrs’ most faithful heirs.

In this new book, he brings us decisive evidence about the on-going

investigation into the monks’ assassination, on the relations between

Algerians and the Tibhirine monastery, and on the future links between

Christians and Muslims in this land of Algeria.

Topical project with the monks’ beatification

Success of the first book: Le jardinier de Tibhirine.

Jean-Marie Lassausse, a priest with the Mission de France and an agronomist, was appointed by the Bishop of Algiers to look after the Abbey’s crops from 2001 to 2016, after the murder of the brothers in 1996. With co-author Christophe Henning, he was awarded the Prix de littérature religieuse in 2011 for his first book, Le jardinier de Tibhirine (Bayard, 2010).

In our materialist world, does the soul still have something to say ?

Today’s world gives the impression of having given up the soul, yet the

word itself has not fallen into disuse. We hear it regularly, in everyday

conversations. It’s no longer the Church’s word; it’s a word of the street.

It’s a word of our times, insistent, as though it still had something to say

and was determined to be heard.

No one is surprised to hear terms such as a beautiful soul, or the soul of

a home. Who can say they have never felt something in their heart and

soul? Who has never been dragged down by soulful feelings, or obliged

to act to save their soul?

Affected by the death of her husband, at the same time observing that

in the West, man has stopped cultivating his spiritual life, Catherine

Ternynck invites readers to sharpen their observation of other people

and things in order to open up their beings to transcendence.

A new way to explore the spiritual dimension of modern man

New edition 6 brief meditations on Christ and the Resurrection by France’s greatest Catholic theologian

These six spiritual meditations do not form a theological treatise, rather

the testimony of a man of faith who wishes to explore the mystery of his

beliefs and the hope that fills his heart. Each meditation will help

readers, simply and deeply, to nourish their own intelligence of what

changed forever on Easter morning.

With fervour, Joseph Moingt insists on the call for change addressed to

us by this “Gospel of the Resurrection”. To become a new man by

practicing the “new commandment”, to love one’s neighbour as oneself,

even to the point of sacrificing one’s own life; and by reconciliation with

one’s enemies.

The ideal book for many spiritual retreats

Joseph Moingt, a Jesuit, is one France’s great theologians. This centenarian, a prolific author, has often reached a very wide public especially with Croire quand même (Flammarion 2013) and Croire au Dieu qui vient (Gallimard 2014).

The exceptional testimony of the man who holds the most intimate knowledge of the monks of Tibhirine beatification dossier

Between May 8, 1994 and August 1, 1996, nineteen nuns and monks

were murdered in Algeria. “In any case, our lives have already been

given,” confided Sister Paul Hélène, the first victim of this violence.

This is an exceptional book about the author’s exceptional situation, a

monk in charge of guiding the beatification dossier of the monks of

Tibhirine, as well as the former bishop of Oran, Mgr. Claverie and the

eleven monks who died in Algeria. It is also exceptional in its timing,

since Pope Francis has decided to beatify these 19 martyrs in 2018.

Exceptional also by the tumult caused by the deaths of the Tibhirine

monks in 1996, the publication of their writings and the astonishing

success of the film: Of Men and Gods.

This book unveils the lives of nuns and monks and the modernity of

their message, one of welcome and opening to others. The author

recounts how the ecclesiastic and theological investigation progresses

and presents proof of the blessed state of these clerics martyred in

Algeria. Both passionate and deeply moving.

The importance and interest in the situation of Christians in Algeria and in the Muslim world.

In the news: Pope Francis will beatify the Tibhirine monks, together with Mgr Claverie and eleven other monks and nuns, in 2018.

Emotion heightened by the film “Of Men and Gods”.

Dom Thomas Georgeon is a Trappist monk and postulator of the cause of Mgr. Claverie and his companions, that is, in the Church’s judicial language, the person whose mission is to assess the devotion inspired by one whose life is widely considered to be exemplary, to study that person’s life and writings and to guide the cause of beatification or canonisation. With Christophe Henning, he wrote a remarkable biography of Brother Luke (Bayard, 2011).

Simone Weil’s deeply moving confession to her spiritual father For the first time, a separate edition of one of the summits of her work

‘Never could I have taken it upon myself to tell you all these things

if I weren’t leaving. And since I am leaving with the thought of

probable death, it seems to me that I don’t have the right to keep

things to myself.’

For the first time, we are presenting one of Simone Weil’s most

important texts in a separate, commented edition, to help understand

her personal and spiritual itinerary.

It is a letter written to Father Perrin in Marseille, a man who was her

publisher, her spiritual advisor and her confident… With him, Simone

Weil speaks about her faith, her relationship with the Catholic Church,

her decision whether or not to request baptism…

This “confession” or ‘spiritual autobiography’ is also a very moving

farewell letter written when she had to flee France to take shelter in the

United States. It is also, and above all, a tragic and free statement of

her position in relation to the Church.

She recalls her discovery of the Christian faith, of prayer during

meetings in the abbeys and retreats that she attended.

For many years, this text has been considered as worth reading on its

own, an authentic “testamentary letter”.

Immense popularity of Simone Weil’s books.

Reading and introduction by Francois Dupuigrenet Desroussilles, Professor of the History of Medieval and Modern Christianity at Florida State University (Tallahassee) and at the University of Lugano (Switzerland).

Simone Weil (1909 – 1943) is one of the major philosophers of the 20th century. Although she never became a Catholic through baptism in spite of her deep spiritual life, she considered herself to be a Christian mystic and is widely recognised as such. A brilliant Hellenist, she is an interpreter of great literary, philosophical and religious texts as well as sacred Hindu scriptures. For many years now, her books have been growing in popularity.

Learn to meditate: “It’s not enough simply to read the Gospels, you have to live the scenes in depth.”

Inspired by the Spiritual Exercises and their method of meditation and

contemplation of the Scriptures, and of existence, François Varillon

invites us to rediscover the life of Jesus and his teaching through

meditation.

Written in the first person (I can see the scene… I read… I pray…),

these meditations, with their personal style, succeed astonishingly well

in letting us slip into the Gospels and live in the stories they tell.

Each meditation leads us to think about ourselves and our lives on the

path we have chosen to achieve a more just life. This book is the

perfect companion for all men and women who wish to be guided in

their discovery of Jesus’s wisdom and his teaching.

A selection of texts finally assembled to bring us Simone Weil’s “Story of Christ”.

“The story of Christ is a symbol, a metaphor; but in former times,

metaphors happened in the world. God is the supreme poet” (Notebook IV,

31).

Today dispersed in various collections of writings – some published as

early as 1949 – Simone Weil gave her “story of Christ” in fragmentary form.

They are now assembled in this anthology. Her highly original and powerful

conception of the Incarnation shapes not only her personal relation to

Christ, who had “seized” her, but also her basic concepts of man’s relation

with God: the soul, friendship, goodness, desolation.

Being incarnate in Christ, for Simone Weil, is just one aspect of the

continuous love through which God, since the Creation, has surrendered

his all-powerfulness in order to give mankind life. In this sense, the

Incarnation and Christ’s Passion are figures of the Creation thanks to which

we know and experience God’s original renunciation, and become capable

of similar renunciation in God’s favour.

If Incarnation and the Passion are presented as the origins of the world,

Simone Weil concludes that there is nothing to stop us thinking that the

Incarnation of Christ could have been preceded by other incarnations, so

many implicit images of God: “Dionysus and Osiris are, in a way, Christ

himself”; “the story of Prometheus is the very story of Christ projected into

eternity.” (Waiting for God).

Simone Weil’s writings enjoy an enthusiastic reception, from Our Father and the Spiritual Autobiography in the anthology.

The great story of the origins of Christianity

Can God be told, like a story? Can we tell the history of mankind and

show how God infiltrates it? That was the challenge accepted by Luke,

author of the Acts of the Apostles. He was the first person to write a

Gospel followed by a history of the beginnings of Christianity. No-one,

in Antiquity, would repeat his accomplishment. Without Luke, we would

not know those dark and dangerous beginnings of this religious

movement. Daniel Marguerat clearly explains how Luke constructed his

great narrative, telling how Christianity was born: his literary skills, his

interest in the story, the tendencies of his theology.

Today, when the Christian world is under threat, it is vital to rediscover

where Christianity came from and what values it constructed at its birth.

Luke is writing in troubled times, when Christianity is searching for its

identity on a highly conflictual religious scene. He strives to explain

which links with Judaism gave birth to Christianity.

He shows that Christian identity becomes visible between Jerusalem

and Rome, taking advantage of both the heritage of those promises

made to Israel and the universality of the Roman Empire.

The fruit of 20 years’ research presented with great clarity

A renowned author

Daniel Marguerat demonstrates that Christian identity is forged between Jerusalem and Rome

Daniel Marguerat, honorary professor of Biblical science at the University of Lausanne, is an internationally renowned specialist of the origins of Christianity. Author of a great commentary of the Acts of the Apostles (2015), already translated into several languages, he has published numerous books about Jesus of Nazareth and co-directed Le Nouveau Testament commenté (Bayard-Labor and Fides).

“This is an essential book: it warns us against the illusion of growing without roots… It’s a beautiful story that Antoine Nouis tells us here, a story of humanity whose origins lie in the art of story-telling.” Marion Muller-Colard

“I believe in Jewish roots because I believe that Jesus of Nazareth is

the accomplishment of expectations that were borne by generations of

believers. If Jesus were not the fruit of that hope, the New Testament is

a lie.”

Christianity soon cast the Old Testament into the past, as though it

were a rough draft of the New Testament, which would be the ultimate

testimony.

By rediscovering “our Jewish roots”, the Biblicist Antoine Nouis reveals

all the importance of the first testament, the true foundation of the

Gospels.

Moreover: knowledge of the Jewish tradition, the Talmud and rabbinical

ideas allow us to enter a magnificent heritage that nourishes our minds,

our humanity, our faith.

Antoine Nouis is a Protestant theologian, Biblicist, parish minister for twenty-eight years and editor-in-chief of the journal Réforme. A prolific author, he recently published a book that was warmly received: Lettre à mon gendre agnostique pour lui expliquer la foi chrétienne (Labor et Fides, 2010).

What is true friendship? A deeply moving testimony.

Jean-Paul Vesco : the authors has been a lawyer during 7 years before taking holy orders in 1995. Appointed bishop of Oran in December 2012 by Benoit XVI and lives now in Algeria. He has published Tout amour véritable est indissoluble, plaidoyer pour les divorcés-remariés, éditions du Cerf.

“I no longer call you servants, I call you friends” (Jn15,15). In the Gospels, Jesus places friendship as the supreme value in human relations. Friendship, so rare and so important in our lives, has a very special meaning that defies all definition. Friendship is born of trust, familiarity and fraternity. Mgr. Jean-Paul Vesco, Prior Provincial of the Dominicans in France until he was named Bishop of the diocese of Oran (Algeria), bears witness to all the dimensions of friendship in our social relations, but also as believers. From the gospels to everyday friends in Algeria, in the footsteps of Mgr. Claverie, or commenting Amoris Laetita - Pope Francis’s most recent encyclical - Jean-Paul Vesco describes friendship as he found it; friendship that makes bonds between individuals, communities, peoples. Between man and God. An authentic confession.

A great novelist (Goncourt prize winner) praises our imperfections, to help us live and love ourselves better

“The more we tread along the path of perfection, the more pain we feel

at our failure to reach it, and to die at the end anyway. Because

perfection, we don’t really know what it looks like…”

In this free, incisive essay, full of personal, intimate anecdotes and

dreams, Alexis Jenni - a former science teacher, novelist, lover of sci-fi

who’s capable of deep spiritual meditations - invites us to reflect on our

desires for and our phantasms about perfection. On the subject of the

body, knowledge, the cult of results… he hails imperfection as a virtue!

To do this, he calls upon great spiritual authors, sci-fi films, scientific

writings, novelists and poets. The grace of humanity is to live

imperfection.

A topical subject of debate: the future of humanity in the face of transhumanism

An essay on Buddhism practised today in the West, far from the religious exigency of Asian Buddhists

By ‘modern Buddhism’ we should understand ‘pseudo-Buddhism’ –

what the author criticizes is not the Buddhism practised in Asia, but the

hybrid version that Westerners have created as an imagined solution to

their own problems.

A product of European secularisation, this invented Buddhism is

disparaged by the author, especially where meditation, supernatural

powers, dogma and mystic experience are concerned. She also

criticizes the often ambiguous role of media personalities such as

Sogyal Rinpoché and Matthieu Ricard.

A historical clarification, to gain a more objective idea of the teachings attributed to Buddha

An uncompromising analysis of Buddhism in the West, sweeping away many preconceived ideas.

A young author whose first book was warmly received by the press.

Marion Dapsance is a Doctor of Anthropology from the École Pratique des Hautes Etudes. She taught the History of Buddhism in the West at Columbia University (New York). She is the author of Dévots du bouddhisme.

For the first time, an anthology of Pasolini’s greatest texts on the figure of Jesus, in a new translation With an essay on “Pasolini’s Christ”

René de Ceccatty is one of the greatest specialists of Pasolini’s literary

and cinematic creation. He has assembled an anthology of the poet and

film director’s major writings on the figure of Christ. All the texts are

presented in a new translation. This book offers a unique occasion to

discover the complex, fascinated relation between Pasolini, Jesus, the

Catholic religion and the message of the Gospel.

One may even refer to his “identification with Christ”, his rebellion, his

sacrifice and the “scandal” Jesus confesses to being in the Gospels.

This anthology contains many texts, some previously unpublished in

French, poems, letters, narratives… In particular, readers will find the

most important texts Pasolini wrote about his film ‘The Gospel

According to Saint Matthew’.

René de Ceccatty is a novelist, essayist, playwright and translator.

Author of a biography of Pasolini (Folio), he has translated a large part

of the film-maker’s literary creation.

New series devoted to the figure of Jesus and the Christ seen by great writers and artists (forthcoming: Berlioz, Dostoyevsky....)

The world-wide fame of Pasolini and his film The Gospel According to Saint Matthew.

A new way to enter the literary and spiritual treasures inspired by the figure of Jesus.

Pier Paolo Pasolini (1922 – 1975) was a poet, novelist, film director, literary and political critic. He left his mark on Italy, from the post-war period to the “years of lead”. His work is inspired by the Catholic religion and Marxist ideas, neorealism, Japanese and expressionist cinema… He profoundly altered literary and cinematic aesthetics in his country and all Europe. His films (Oedipus Rex, Theorem, The Gospel According to Saint Matthew, Salò or the 120 Days …) are milestones in the history of the cinema.

Berlioz himself wrote the libretto for his project, “L’Enfance du Christ”: a

musical demonstration of his personal faith and his own brilliant

definition of Christian kindliness, which he raises up to a wonderful

metaphysical sweetness in the angel’s choir, with a harmonium

accompaniment, warning Joseph and Mary of the massacre of the

Innocents: “This very night, you must flee through the desert to Egypt”.

Doubt blends with hope, hope born of doubt: this is the interrogative

character of that extraordinary moment of contemplation on the edge of

the imperceptible, which forms the instrumental introduction to the

Epilogue. The concluding Amen, for an cappella choir that gradually

fades into silence, is - in its humble but fervent petition – in diametrical

opposition to the Messiah. Time seems to stand still in harmonic colour,

reminiscent of the Psalmodie de l’ubiquité par amour, the last of Olivier

Messiaen’s Trois petites liturgies de la présence divine (1945).

A woman’s viewpoint to promote modern Islam

Today, we can justifiably use the word crisis when speaking of Islam.

Born of a rigorous vision based on the Koran and tradition, extremist

ideas are very popular, with dramatic consequences. Yet at the same

time some Muslim thinkers rebel against this interpretation. Theologian

Nayla Tabbara points out that although Islam today suffers widely from

authoritarianism and a lack of critical thinking, this is, above all,

because it has always been conceived in a strongly patriarchal spirit, by

men and for men, since its origins. Hence a new approach is necessary,

respecting the feminine part of reason and sensitivity.

This “feminine reading” of the Koran highlights, for example, the

“maternal” quality of God’s mercy more than his force and

intransigence.

For the author, it’s not a question of focussing on “women’s issues”

such as the hijab or polygamy, she imagines the ensemble of the

Muslim religion in a new light. Free of a literalist conception and purely

formal practice, this new viewpoint could permit Islam to recover its

spiritual vocation.

Friendship, the ideal relationship between human beings

In this highly original book, which could be described as a long

philosophical meditation on friendship, André Guigot assembles many

thinkers: Agamben, Kant, Pascal, Bachelard, Spinoza…

With them, he explores this feeling described by Kant as “mutual love

and respect”, showing how profoundly friendship can change life. Not

by transforming everyday existence into the extraordinary, but gradually

- hence, authentically. He cares little for the modern obsession with

quantifying everything and boasting about the large number of “friends”

one has. He claims that the real sense of “progress” in friendship lies in

relinquishing performance.

In this book, André Guigot develops the notion of “original friendship”

which can refer to a love for humanity, of which Christ is the purest

illustration, and encourages each of us to let ourselves experience a

feeling close to friendship for those around us, and for all those who are

destined to be part of a community.

A subject of interest to all

André Guigot, PhD, is a Professor of Philosophy and graduate of the Collège international de philosophie A specialist of Sartre, he often gives conferences. Yoga to refocus and feel more present in the world

Life is movement, and everyday events drag us into a whirlwind of

different activities, so that we forget ourselves. We move along

automatically, driven towards the exterior of our being. Yoga reverses

that movement, as Ysé Tardan-Masquelier demonstrates in this

delightful little book. It permits each person to refocus not outside but at

the very heart of the action. To be fully alive, in the world, with other

people. At the heart of life.

By evoking the history of yoga and its Indian roots, the meaning of its

poses, warning against exaggerations and trends… the author, an

esteemed specialist, invites us into the spirituality of yoga. Topical interest: many good sellers on the subject
