    CHAPTER (1)

    باب َمَواقِيِت الصَّالَةِ َوفَْضِلَها

    The times of Salah and the excellence of offering Salah in time

    ِ ْبُن َمْسلََمةَ، قَاَل َر الصَّالَةَ يَْوًما، فَدََخَل َعلَْيهِ َحدَّثَنَا َعْبدُ َّللاَّ عُْرَوةُ ْبُن قََرأُْت َعلَى َماِلٍك َعِن اْبِن ِشَهاٍب، أَنَّ عَُمَر ْبَن َعْبِد اْلعَِزيِز، أَخَّ

    فَدََخَل بِاْلِعَراِق، َوْهَو يَْوًما الصَّالَةَ َر أَخَّ ُشْعبَةَ ْبَن اْلُمِغيَرةَ أَنَّ فَأَْخبََرهُ بَْيِر، ُمِغيَرةُ الزُّ يَا هَذَا َما فَقَاَل األَْنَصاِريُّ َمْسعُوٍد أَبُو َعلَْيِه

    ِ صلى هللا عليه وسلم ثُمَّ َصلَّى فََصلَّى َرُس ِ صلى هللا عليه وسلم ثُمَّ أَلَْيَس قَدْ َعِلْمَت أَنَّ ِجْبِريَل نََزَل فََصلَّى، فََصلَّى َرُسوُل َّللاَّ وُل َّللاَّ

    ِ َصلَّى فََصلَّى َرُسو ِ صلى هللا عليه وسلم ثُمَّ َصلَّى فََصلَّى َرُسوُل َّللاَّ ِ صلى هللا عليه وسلم ثُمَّ َصلَّى فََصلَّى َرُسوُل َّللاَّ صلى هللا ُل َّللاَّ

    ُث أََوإِنَّ ِجْبِريَل هُوَ ."بَِهذَا أُِمْرُت " عليه وسلم ثُمَّ قَاَل ِ صلى هللا عليه وسلم َوْقَت فَقَاَل عَُمُر ِلعُْرَوةَ اْعلَْم َما تَُحد ِ أَقَاَم ِلَرُسوِل َّللاَّ

    ُث َعْن أَبِيهِ .الصَّالَةِ ِ صلى هللا عليه .قَاَل عُْرَوةُ َكذَِلَك َكاَن بَِشيُر ْبُن أَبِي َمْسعُوٍد يَُحد ِ قَاَل عُْرَوةُ َولَقَدْ َحدَّثَتْنِي َعائَِشةُ، أَنَّ َرُسوَل َّللاَّ

    .اْلعَْصَر، َوالشَّْمُس فِي ُحْجَرتَِها قَْبَل أَْن تَْظَهرَ وسلم َكاَن يَُصل ِي

    Ibn Shihab narrated that once Umar bin Abdul Aziz delayed the prayer and Urwa bin Zubair went to him and said, "Once in 'Iraq, Al-Mughira bin Shu`ba (عنہ تعالی هللا (رضئ delayed his prayers and Abi Mas`ud Al-Ansari (تعالی عنہ ,went to him and said (رضئ هللا 'O Mughira (تعالی عنہ السالم) What is this? Don't you know that once Jibreel !(رضئ هللا (عليه came and offered the prayer (Fajr prayer) and Allah's Apostle (وسلم آله و عليه هللا (صلى prayed too, then he prayed again (Zuhr prayer) and so did Allah's Apostle ( صلى هللا عليه و did the (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) and again he prayed (Asr prayer) and Allah's Apostle (آله وسلمsame; again he prayed (Maghrib prayer) and so did Allah's Apostle ( ( عليه و آله وسلمصلى هللاand again prayed (Isha prayer) and so did Allah's Apostle (وسلم آله و عليه هللا and (صلى (Jibreel عليه السالم) said, 'I was ordered to do so (to demonstrate the prayers prescribed to

    you)?' `Umar (bin `Abdul `Aziz) said to `Urwa, "Be sure of what you Say. Did Jibreel السالم) وسلم) lead Allah's Apostle (عليه آله "?at the stated times of the prayers (صلى هللا عليه و `Urwa replied, "Bashir bin Abi Mas`ud (عنہ تعالی هللا narrated like this on the (رضئ authority of his father." `Urwa added, "Ummul Momineen Aisha (تعالی عنہا told (رضئ هللا me that Allah's Apostle (آله وسلم عليه و used to pray Asr when the sunshine was (صلى هللا still inside her residence (during the early time of Asr).

    CHAPTER (2)

    َواتَّقُوهُ َوأَقِيُموا الصَّالَةَ َوالَ تَكُونُوا ِمَن اْلُمْشِرِكيَن{ بَاُب: }ُمنِيبِيَن إِلَْيِه

    The saying of Allah - [(Adhere to it), turning in repentance to Him, and fear Him and establish prayer and do not be of

    those who associate others with Allah.] (Ar-Room-31)

    ـ هَُو اْبُن َعبَّاٍد ـ َعْن أَبِي َجْمَرةَ، َعِن اْبِن َعبَّاٍس قُتَْيبَةُ ْبُن َسِعيٍد، قَاَل َحدَّثَنَا َعبَّادٌ ِ َحدَّثَنَا َعْبِد اْلقَْيِس َعلَى َرُسوِل َّللاَّ ، قَاَل قَِدَم َوْفدُ

    ، َولَْسنَا نَِصُل إِلَْيَك إاِلَّ فِي الشَّْهِر اْلَحَراِم، فَُمْرنَا بَِشْىٍء نَأُْخذْهُ َعْنَك، َونَدْعُو صلى هللا عليه وسلم فَقَالُوا إِنَّا ِمْن هَذَا اْلَحى ِ ِمْن َربِيعَةَ

    َرهَا لَُهْم َشَهادَةُ " فَقَاَل .إِلَْيِه َمْن َوَراَءنَا ِ ـ ثُمَّ فَسَّ ْربَعٍ اإِليَماِن بِاَّللَِّ، آُمُركُْم بِأَْربَعٍ، َوأَْنَهاكُْم َعْن أَ ُ، َوأَن ِي َرُسوُل َّللاَّ أَْن الَ إِلَهَ إاِلَّ َّللاَّ

    َكاةِ، َوأَْن تَُؤدُّوا إِلَىَّ ُخُمَس َما َغنِْمتُْم، َوأَْنَهى َعِن الدُّبَّاِء َوالْ َحْنتَِم َواْلُمقَيَِّر َوالنَِّقيِر َوإِقَاُم الصَّالَةِ، َوإِيتَاُء الزَّ ".

    Ibn Abbas ( هللا عنہرضئ تعالی ) narrated that once a delegation of Abdul Qais came to Allah's Apostle (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) and said, "We belong to such and such branch of the tribe of Rabia and we can only come to you in the sacred months. Order us to do something good so that we may take it from you (carry out) and also invite to it our people whom we have left behind (at home)." The Prophet (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) said, " I order you to do four things and forbid you from four things. (The first four are as follows) :

    (1) To believe in Allah (And he explained it to them) to testify that there is no God but Allah and I (Mohammad ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) am Allah's Apostle.

    (2) To offer prayers perfectly (at the stated times).

    (3) To pay Zakat (obligatory charity).

    (4) To give me Khumus

    The things forbidden are (1) Dubba, (2) Hantam (3) Muqaiyat, and (4) Naqir (all these are utensils used for the preparation of alcoholic drinks).

    CHAPTER (3)

    باب اْلبَْيعَِة َعلَى إِقَاَمِة الصَّالَةِ

    To give the Baya (pledge of allegiance) for offering of Salah

    Sahih al-Bukhari Vol 1, Bk 9, Hadith # 003

    قَْيٌس، َعنْ َحدَّثَنَا قَاَل إِْسَماِعيُل، َحدَّثَنَا قَاَل يَْحيَى، َحدَّثَنَا قَاَل اْلُمثَنَّى، ْبُن دُ ُمَحمَّ َرُسوَل َحدَّثَنَا بَايَْعُت قَاَل ،ِ َعْبِد َّللاَّ ْبِن ِ َجِريِر َّللاَّ

    َكاةِ، َوالنُّْصحِ ِلكُل ِ ُمْسِلمٍ .صلى هللا عليه وسلم َعلَى إِقَاِم الصَّالَةِ، َوإِيتَاِء الزَّ

    Jabir bin Abdullah (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) narrated that 'I gave 'Baya' the pledge of allegiance to Allah's Apostle (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) to offer prayers perfectly, to pay Zakat regularly, and to give good advice to every Muslim.

    CHAPTER (4)

    باب الصَّالَةُ َكفَّاَرةٌ

    Salah is expiation (of sins)

    Sahih al-Bukhari Vol 1, Bk 9, Hadith # 004

    َشِقيٌق، قَاَل َسِمْعُت ُحذَْيفَةَ، قَاَل كُنَّا ُجلُوًسا ِعْندَ عَُمَر ـ رضى هللاَحدَّثَنَا ُمَسدَّدٌ، قَاَل َحدَّثَنَا عنه ـ يَْحيَى، َعِن األَْعَمِش، قَاَل َحدَّثَنِي

    ِ صلى هللا عليه وسلم فِي اْلِفتْنَِة قُْلُت أَنَا، َكَما قَالَهُ فِتْنَةُ " قُْلُت .نََّك َعلَْيِه ـ أَْو َعلَْيَها ـ لََجِريءٌ قَاَل إِ .فَقَاَل أَيُّكُْم يَْحفَظُ قَْوَل َرُسوِل َّللاَّ

    َوالنَّْهىُ َواألَْمُر دَقَةُ َوالصَّ َوالصَّْوُم الصَّالَةُ تَُكف ُِرهَا َوَجاِرِه َوَولَِدِه َوَماِلِه أَْهِلِه فِي ُجِل الَّتِ ." الرَّ اْلِفتْنَةُ َولَِكِن أُِريدُ، هَذَا لَْيَس ي قَاَل

    قَاَل .قَاَل أَيُْكَسُر أَْم يُْفتَُح قَاَل يُْكَسرُ .قَاَل لَْيَس َعلَْيَك ِمْنَها بَأٌْس يَا أَِميَر اْلُمْؤِمنِيَن، إِنَّ بَْينََك َوبَْينََها بَابًا ُمْغلَقًا .تَُموُج َكَما يَُموُج اْلبَْحرُ

    أَبَدًا يُْغلََق أََكاَن عَُمرُ .إِذًا الَ بِاألََغاِليطِ قُْلنَا لَْيَس بَِحِديٍث َحدَّثْتُهُ إِن ِي اللَّْيلَةَ، اْلغَِد أَنَّ دُوَن َكَما نَعَْم، قَاَل يَْعلَُم اْلبَاَب نَْسأََل . أَْن فَِهْبنَا

    .ُحذَْيفَةَ، فَأََمْرنَا َمْسُروقًا فََسأَلَهُ فَقَاَل اْلبَاُب عَُمرُ

    Shaqiq narrated that he had heard Hudhaifa (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) saying, "Once I was sitting with `Umar (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) and he said, 'Who among you remembers the statement of

    Allah's Apostle (وسلم آله و عليه هللا about the afflictions?' I said, 'I know it as the (صلى Prophet ( هللا عليه و آله وسلم صلى ) had said it.' `Umar (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) said, 'No doubt you are bold.' I said, 'The afflictions caused for a man by his wife, money, children and neighbor are expiated by his prayers, fasting, charity and by enjoining (what is good) and forbidding (what is evil).' `Umar (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) said, 'I did not mean that but I asked about that affliction which will spread like the waves of the sea.' I (Hudhaifa - رضئ هللا said, 'O leader of the faithful believers! You need not be afraid of it as there is a (تعالی عنہclosed door between you and it.' `Umar (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) asked, Will the door be broken or opened?' I replied, 'It will be broken.' `Umar (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) said, 'Then it will never be closed again.' I was asked whether `Umar (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) knew that door. I replied that he knew it as one knows that there will be night before the tomorrow morning. I narrated a Hadith that was free from any misstatement" The sub narrator added that they deputized Masruq to ask Hudhaifa (عنہ تعالی هللا about the door). Hudhaifa) (رضئ ".himself (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) said, "The door was Umar (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ)

    Sahih al-Bukhari Vol 1, Bk 9, Hadith # 005

    ِ، َعِن اْبِن َمْسعُوٍد، أَنَّ َرُجالً، أََصاَب ِمَن اْمَرأَةٍ َحدَّثَنَا قُتَْيبَةُ، قَاَل َحدَّثَنَا يَِزيدُ ْبُن ُزَرْيعٍ، َعْن ُسلَْيَماَن ال ثَْماَن النَّْهِدي ِ، َعْن أَبِي عُ تَّْيِمي

    ُ ي ِئَاتِ أَقِِم الصَّالَةَ َطَرفَِى النََّهاِر َوُزلَفًا ِمَن اللَّْيِل إِ }قُْبلَةً، فَأَتَى النَّبِيَّ صلى هللا عليه وسلم فَأَْخبََرهُ، فَأَْنَزَل َّللاَّ .{نَّ اْلَحَسنَاِت يُذِْهْبَن السَّ

    ِ أَِلي هَذَا قَاَل ُجُل يَا َرُسوَل َّللاَّ تِي كُل ِِهْم "فَقَاَل الرَّ ." ِلَجِميعِ أُمَّ

    Ibn Mas'ud (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) narrated that a man kissed a woman (unlawfully) and then went to the Prophet ( آله وسلمصل ى هللا عليه و ) and informed him. Allah revealed - َاَلة الصَّ َوأَقِِم َن اللَّْيلِ ِم النََّهاِر َوُزلَفًا ۚ َطَرفَيِ يِ ئَاتِ يُذِْهْبَن السَّ ۚ إِنَّ اْلَحَسنَاِت ِللذَّاِكِرينَ ٰذَ ِلَك ِذْكَرٰى [And establish prayer at the two ends of the day and at the approach of the night. Indeed, good deeds do away with misdeeds. That is a reminder for those who remember.] (Hood - 114). The man asked Allah's Apostle (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم), "Is it for me?" He said, "It is for all my followers."

    CHAPTER (5)

    باب فَْضِل الصَّالَةِ ِلَوْقتَِها

    Excellence of offering Salah at prescribed times

    Sahih al-Bukhari Vol 1, Bk 9, Hadith # 006

    ، يَقُوُل َحدَّثَنَا َحدَّثَنَا أَبُو اْلَوِليِد، ِهَشاُم ْبُن َعْبِد اْلَمِلِك قَاَل َحدَّثَنَا ُشْعبَةُ، قَاَل اْلَوِليدُ ْبُن ْيبَانِيَّ اْلعَْيَزاِر أَْخبََرنِي قَاَل َسِمْعُت أَبَا َعْمٍرو الشَّ

    ِ قَاَل َسأَْلُت النَّبِيَّ صلى هللا عليه وسلم أَىُّ اْلعََمِل أَ ِ قَاَل َصاِحُب، هَِذِه الدَّاِر َوأََشاَر إِلَى دَاِر َعْبِد َّللاَّ َعلَى َوْقتَِها الصَّالَةُ " َحبُّ إِلَى َّللاَّ

    ِ "قَاَل ثُمَّ أَىُّ قَاَل ." ثُمَّ بِرُّ اْلَواِلدَْيِن "قَاَل ثُمَّ أَىُّ قَاَل ." .قَاَل َحدَّثَنِي بِِهنَّ َولَِو اْستََزدْتُهُ لََزادَنِي ."اْلِجَهادُ فِي َسبِيِل َّللاَّ

    Abdullah (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) narrated that 'I asked the Prophet (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) "which deed is the dearest to Allah?" He replied, "To offer the prayers at their early stated fixed times." I asked, "What is the next (in goodness)?" He replied, "To be good and dutiful to your parents" I again asked, "What is the next (in goodness)?" He replied, 'To participate in Jihad (religious fighting) in Allah's cause." `Abdullah (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) added, "I asked only that much and if I had asked more, the Prophet (وسلم آله و عليه would have (صلى هللا told me more."

    CHAPTER (6)

    لََواُت اْلَخْمُس َكفَّاَرةٌ باب الصَّ

    The five Salah (of the day) are expiation (of sins)

    َحاِزٍم، أَبِي اْبُن َحدَّثَنِي قَاَل َحْمَزةَ، ْبُن إِْبَراِهيُم َعْبِد َحدَّثَنَا ْبِن َسلََمةَ أَبِي َعْن إِْبَراِهيَم، ْبِن ِد ُمَحمَّ َعْن يَِزيدَ، َعْن ، َوالدََّراَوْرِديُّ

    يَقُوُل ِ صلى هللا عليه وسلم أَنَّهُ َسِمَع َرُسوَل َّللاَّ ْحَمِن، َعْن أَبِي هَُرْيَرةَ، يَْغتَ " الرَّ بِبَاِب أََحِدكُْم، نََهًرا لَْو أَنَّ يَْوٍم أََرأَْيتُْم ِسُل فِيِه كُلَّ

    ُ بَِها اْلَخَطايَا "قَاَل .قَالُوا الَ يُْبِقي ِمْن دََرنِِه َشْيئًا ."َخْمًسا، َما تَقُوُل ذَِلَك يُْبِقي ِمْن دََرنِِه لََواِت اْلَخْمِس، يَْمُحو َّللاَّ ."فَذَِلَك ِمثُْل الصَّ

    Abu Huraira (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) narrated that "I heard Allah's Apostle (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) saying, "If there was a river at the door of anyone of you and he took a bath in it five times a day would you notice any dirt on him?" They said, "Not a trace of dirt would be left." The Prophet (آله وسلم و عليه added, "That is the example of the five prayers (صلى هللا with which Allah blots out evil deeds."

    CHAPTER (7)

    باب تَْضيِيعِ الصَّالَةِ َعْن َوْقتَِها

    Not offering Salah at its prescribed time

    Sahih al-Bukhari Vol 1, Bk 9, Hadith # 008

    ، َعْن َغْيالََن، َعْن أَنٍَس، قَاَل َما أَْعِرُف َشْيئًا ِممَّ ِ صلى هللا عليه َحدَّثَنَا ُموَسى ْبُن إِْسَماِعيَل، قَاَل َحدَّثَنَا َمْهِديٌّ ا َكاَن َعلَى َعْهِد النَّبِي

    .فِيَها قَاَل أَلَْيَس َضيَّْعتُْم َما َضيَّْعتُْم .قِيَل الصَّالَةُ .وسلم

    Ghailan narrated that Anas (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) said, "I do not find (now-a-days) things as they were (practiced) at the time of the Prophet (وسلم آله و عليه Somebody said ".(صلى هللا "The prayer (is as it was.)" Anas (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) said, "Have you not done in the prayer what you have done?

    َعْن عُثْمَ اْلَحدَّادُ، أَبُو عُبَْيدَةَ َواِصٍل ْبُن اْلَواِحِد َعْبدُ أَْخبََرنَا قَاَل ُزَراَرةَ، ْبُن َعْمُرو أَ َحدَّثَنَا اٍد، َروَّ أَبِي ْبِن قَاَل اَن اْلعَِزيِز َعْبِد ِخي

    الَ فَقَاَل يُْبِكيَك َما فَقُْلُت يَْبِكي َوهَُو بِِدَمْشَق َماِلٍك ْبِن أَنَِس َعلَى دََخْلُت يَقُوُل ، ْهِريَّ الزُّ هَِذِه َسِمْعُت إاِلَّ أَدَْرْكُت ا ِممَّ َشْيئًا أَْعِرُف

    اٍد نَْحَوهُ وَ .الصَّالَةَ، َوهَِذِه الصَّالَةُ قَدْ ُضي ِعَتْ دُ ْبُن بَْكٍر اْلبُْرَسانِيُّ أَْخبََرنَا عُثَْماُن ْبُن أَبِي َروَّ .قَاَل بَْكٌر َحدَّثَنَا ُمَحمَّ

    Az-Zuhri narrated that he visited Anas bin Malik (عنہ تعالی هللا at Damascus and (رضئ found him weeping and asked him why he was weeping. He replied, "I do not know anything which I used to know during the life-time of Allah's Apostle ( صلى هللا عليه و آله ".(except this prayer which is being lost (not offered as it should be (وسلم

    CHAPTER (8)

    باب اْلُمَصل ِي يُنَاِجي َربَّهُ َعزَّ َوَجلَّ

    A person in Salah is speaking in private to his Lord

    أََحدَكُْم إِذَا َصلَّى يُنَاِجي إِنَّ "عليه وسلم َحدَّثَنَا ُمْسِلُم ْبُن إِْبَراِهيَم، قَاَل َحدَّثَنَا ِهَشاٌم، َعْن قَتَادَةَ، َعْن أَنٍَس، قَاَل قَاَل النَّبِيُّ صلى هللا

    َوقَاَل َسِعيدٌ َعْن قَتَادَةَ الَ يَتِْفُل قُدَّاَمهُ أَْو بَْيَن يَدَْيِه، َولَِكْن َعْن يََساِرِه أَْو تَْحَت ." َربَّهُ فَالَ يَتِْفلَنَّ َعْن يَِمينِِه، َولَِكْن تَْحَت قَدَِمِه اْليُْسَرى

    َوقَاَل ُحَمْيدٌ َعْن أَنٍَس َعِن النَّبِي ِ صلى هللا عليه .بَةُ الَ يَْبُزُق بَْيَن يَدَْيِه َوالَ َعْن يَِمينِِه، َولَِكْن َعْن يََساِرِه أَْو تَْحَت قَدَِمهِ َوقَاَل ُشعْ .قَدََمْيهِ

    ."َت قَدَِمِه الَ يَْبُزْق فِي اْلِقْبلَِة َوالَ َعْن يَِمينِِه، َولَِكْن َعْن يََساِرِه أَْو تَحْ "وسلم

    Anas (عنہ تعالی هللا وسلم) narrated that the Prophet (رضئ آله و عليه هللا said, "Whenever (صلى anyone of you offers his prayer he is speaking in private to his Lord. So he should not spit to his right but under his left foot." Qatada ( تعالی عنہر ضئ هللا ) said, "He should not spit in front of him but to his left or under his feet." And Shu`ba (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) said, "He should not spit in front of him, nor to his right but to his left or under his foot." Anas (تعالی عنہ وسلم) said: The Prophet (رضئ هللا آله و عليه هللا said, "He should neither (صلى spit in the direction of his Qibla nor to his right but to his left or under his foot."

    ِ صلى هللا عليه وسلم قَاَل َحدَّثَنَا َحْفُص ْبُن عَُمَر، قَاَل َحدَّثَنَا يَ اْعتَِدلُوا فِي " ِزيدُ ْبُن إِْبَراِهيَم، قَاَل َحدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ، َعْن أَنٍَس، َعِن النَّبِي

    ." هُ يُنَاِجي َربَّهُ إِنَّ السُُّجوِد، َوالَ يَْبُسْط ِذَراَعْيِه َكاْلَكْلِب، َوإِذَا بََزَق فَالَ يَْبُزقَنَّ بَْيَن يَدَْيِه َوالَ َعْن يَِمينِِه، فَ

    Anas (عنہ تعالی هللا وسلم) narrated that the Prophet (رضئ آله و عليه هللا said, "Do the (صلى prostration properly and do not put your forearms flat with elbows touching the ground like a dog. And if you want to spit, do not spit in front, nor to the right for the person in prayer is speaking in private to his Lord."

    CHAPTER (9)

    باب اإِلْبَراِد بِالظُّْهِر فِي ِشدَّةِ اْلَحر ِ

    In severe heat, offer Zuhr prayers when it becomes (a bit) cooler

    ِ ْبِن عَُمَر عَ .هَُرْيَرةَ ِ صلى هللا عليه وسلم أَنَّهُ قَاَل َونَافٌِع َمْولَى َعْبِد َّللاَّ ِ ْبِن عَُمَر، أَنَُّهَما َحدَّثَاهُ َعْن َرُسوِل َّللاَّ إِذَا اْشتَدَّ " ْن َعْبِد َّللاَّ

    "اْلَحرُّ فَأَْبِردُوا َعِن الصَّالَةِ، فَإِنَّ ِشدَّةَ اْلَحر ِ ِمْن فَْيحِ َجَهنََّم .

    Abu Huraira and Abdullah bin `Umar (عنہما تعالی narrated that Allah's Apostle (رضئ هللا said, "If it is very hot, then pray the Zuhr prayer when it becomes (a (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم)bit) cooler, as the severity of the heat is from the raging of the Hell-fire."

    .َحتَّى َرأَْينَا فَْىَء التُّلُولِ ."فَأَْبِردُوا َعِن الصَّالَةِ

    Abu Dhar (تعالی عنہ narrated that the Mu'adh-dhin (the caller of Adhan) of the (رضئ هللا Prophet (وسلم آله و عليه هللا pronounced the Adhan for the Zuhr prayer but the (صلى Prophet (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) said, "Let it be cooler, let it be cooler." Or said, 'Wait, wait, because the severity of heat is from the raging of the Hell-fire. In severe hot weather, pray when it becomes (a bit) cooler and the shadows of hillocks appear."

    اْلَحر ِ ِمْن فَْيحِ َجَهنََّم "عليه وسلم قَاَل بِالصَّالَةِ، فَإِنَّ ِشدَّةَ فَأَْبِردُوا ِ أََكَل وَ " ." إِذَا اْشتَدَّ اْلَحرُّ يَا َرب فَقَالَْت َرب َِها إِلَى اْشتََكِت النَّاُر

    ، َوأَشَ .بَْعِضي بَْعًضا ْيِف، فَُهَو أََشدُّ َما تَِجدُوَن ِمَن اْلَحر ِ تَاِء، َونَفٍَس فِي الصَّ ْمَهِريِر فَأَِذَن لََها بِنَفََسْيِن نَفٍَس فِي الش ِ دُّ َما تَِجدُوَن ِمَن الزَّ

    ".

    Abu Huraira (عنہ تعالی هللا وسلم) narrated that the Prophet (رضئ آله و عليه هللا said, "In (صلى very hot weather delay the Zuhr prayer till it becomes (a bit) cooler because the severity of heat is from the raging of the Hellfire. The fire of Hell complained to its Lord saying : O Lord! My parts are eating (destroying) one another. So Allah allowed it to take two breaths, one in the winter and the other in the summer. The breath in the summer is at the time when you feel the severest heat and the breath in the winter is at the time when you feel the severest cold."

    ِ صلى هللا عليه يٍد، قَاَل قَاَل َرُسوُل َحدَّثَنَا عَُمُر ْبُن َحْفٍص، قَاَل َحدَّثَنَا أَبِي قَاَل، َحدَّثَنَا األَْعَمُش، َحدَّثَنَا أَبُو َصاِلحٍ، َعْن أَبِي َسعِ َّللاَّ

    ْهِر، فَإِنَّ ِشدَّةَ اْلَحر ِ ِمْن فَْيحِ َجَهنََّم " وسلم .بُو َعَوانَةَ َعِن األَْعَمِش تَابَعَهُ ُسْفيَاُن َويَْحيَى َوأَ ."أَْبِردُوا بِالظُّ

    Abu Sa`id (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) narrated that Allah's Apostle ( له وسلمصلى هللا عليه و آ ) said, "Pray Zuhr prayer when it becomes (a bit) cooler as the severity of heat is from the raging of the Hellfire."

    CHAPTER (10)

    باب اإِلْبَراِد بِالظُّْهِر فِي السَّفَرِ

    During journey (in the heat) pray Zuhr when it becomes cooler

    ِ قَاَل َسِمْعُت َزْيدَ ْبَن َوْهٍب، َعْن أَبِي ذَر ٍ َحدَّثَنَا آدَُم ْبُن أَبِي إِيَاٍس، قَاَل َحدَّثَنَا ُشْعبَةُ، قَاَل َحدَّثَنَا ُمَهاِجٌر أَبُو اْلَحَسِن، َمْولًى ِلبَنِي تَ ْيِم َّللاَّ

    ِ، قَاَل كُ َن ِللظُّْهِر فَقَاَل النَّبِيُّ صلى اْلِغفَاِري ُن أَْن يَُؤذ ِ ِ صلى هللا عليه وسلم فِي َسفٍَر، فَأََرادَ اْلُمَؤذ ِ ."أَْبِردْ "هللا عليه وسلم نَّا َمَع النَّبِي

    لَهُ فَقَاَل َن يَُؤذ ِ َرأَْينَا فَْىَء التُّلُولِ ." أَْبِردْ "ثُمَّ أََرادَ أَْن فَقَاَل النَّبِيُّ صلى هللا عليه وسلم َحتَّى فَإِذَا " ، اْلَحر ِ ِمْن فَْيحِ َجَهنََّم، إِنَّ ِشدَّةَ

    .َوقَاَل اْبُن َعبَّاٍس تَتَفَيَّأُ تَتََميَّلُ ." اْشتَدَّ اْلَحرُّ فَأَْبِردُوا بِالصَّالَةِ

    Abu Dhar Al-Ghifar (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) narrated that "we were with the Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) on a journey and the Mu'adh-dhin (the caller of Adhan) wanted to pronounce the Adhan for the Zuhr prayer. The Prophet (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) said, 'Let it become cooler." He again

    (after a while) wanted to pronounce the Adhan but the Prophet (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) said to him, "Let it become cooler till we see the shadows of hillocks." The Prophet ( صلى هللا added, "The severity of heat is from the raging of the Hellfire, and in very (عليه و آله وسلمhot weather pray (Zuhr) when it becomes cooler."

    CHAPTER (11)

    َوالِ باب َوْقِت الظُّْهِر ِعْندَ الزَّ

    The time of Zuhr prayer is when the sun declines (just after mid-day)

    ُ َعلَْيِه َوَسلََّم يَُصِل ي بِاْلَهاِجَرةِ َوقَاَل َجابٌِر َكاَن النَّبِيُّ َصلَّى َّللاَّ

    Jabir (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) said 'the Prophet (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) used to offer the Zuhr prayer just after midday (as the sun

    declines at noon.

    اْليََماِن، قَاَل أَبُو ِ صلى هللا عليه وسلم َخرَ َحدَّثَنَا َرُسوَل َّللاَّ ْبُن َماِلٍك، أَنَّ أَنَُس ِ، قَاَل أَْخبََرنِي ْهِري َج ِحيَن أَْخبََرنَا ُشعَْيٌب، َعِن الزُّ

    َمْن أََحبَّ أَْن يَْسأََل َعْن َشْىٍء "ًما ثُمَّ قَاَل َزاَغِت الشَّْمُس فََصلَّى الظُّْهَر، فَقَاَم َعلَى اْلِمْنبَِر، فَذََكَر السَّاَعةَ، فَذََكَر أَنَّ فِيَها أُُموًرا ِعَظا

    فَقَاَم ."َسلُونِي "فَأَْكثََر النَّاُس فِي اْلبَُكاِء، َوأَْكثََر أَْن يَقُوَل ."فَْليَْسأَْل، فَالَ تَْسأَلُونِي َعْن َشْىٍء إاِلَّ أَْخبَْرتُكُْم َما دُْمُت فِي َمقَاِمي هَذَا

    ِ ْبُن ُحذَافَةَ السَّْهِميُّ فَقَاَل َمْن أَبِي قَاَل َعْبدُ فَبََرَك عَُمُر َعلَى ُرْكبَتَْيِه فَقَاَل َرِضينَا ."َسلُونِي "ثُمَّ أَْكثََر أَْن يَقُوَل ."أَبُوَك ُحذَافَةُ " َّللاَّ

    نَبِيًّا ٍد َوبُِمَحمَّ ِدينًا، َوبِاإِلْسالَِم َربًّا، ِ قَاَل .بِاَّللَّ ثُمَّ َكاْلَخْيِر "فََسَكَت أََر فَلَْم اْلَحائِِط هَذَا فِي عُْرِض آنِفًا َوالنَّاُر اْلَجنَّةُ َعلَىَّ عُِرَضْت

    ."َوالشَّر ِ

    Anas bin Malik (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) narrated that Allah's Apostle (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) came out as the sun declined at midday and offered the Zuhr prayer. He then stood on the pulpit and spoke about the Hour (Day of Judgment) and said that in it there would be tremendous things. He then said, "Whoever likes to ask me about anything he can do so and I shall reply as long as I am at this place of mine. Most of the people wept and the Prophet (وسلم آله و عليه هللا -said repeatedly, "Ask me." `Abdullah bin Hudhafa As (صلى Sahmi stood up and said, "Who is my father?" The Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) said, "Your father is Hudhafa." The Prophet (وسلم آله و عليه هللا repeatedly said, "Ask me." Then `Umar (صلى عنہ) تعالی هللا ,knelt before him and said, "We are pleased with Allah as our Lord (رضئ Islam as our religion, and Muhammad (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) as our Prophet." The Prophet then became quiet and said, "Paradise and Hellfire were displayed (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم)

    in front of me on this wall just now and I have never seen a better thing (than the former) and a worse thing (than the latter).

    َوقَاَل ُمعَاذٌ .اَل إِلَى َشْطِر اللَّْيلِ ثُمَّ قَ .للَّْيلِ ثُمَّ يَْرِجُع َوالشَّْمُس َحيَّةٌ، َونَِسيُت َما قَاَل فِي اْلَمْغِرِب، َوالَ يُبَاِلي بِتَأِْخيِر اْلِعَشاِء إِلَى ثُلُِث ا

    ةً فَقَاَل أَْو ثُلُِث اللَّْيلِ .قَاَل ُشْعبَةُ ثُمَّ لَِقيتُهُ َمرَّ

    Abu Al-Minhal narrated that Abu Barza (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) said, "The Prophet ( صلى هللا عليه ووسلم used to offer the Fajr (prayer) when one could recognize the person sitting by (آله him (after the prayer) and he used to recite between 60 to 100 Ayat (verses) of the Qur'an. He used to offer the Zuhr prayer as soon as the sun declined (at noon) and the `Asr at a time when a man might go and return from the farthest place in Medina and find the sun still hot. (The sub-narrator forgot what was said about the Maghrib). He did not mind delaying the Isha prayer to one third of the night or the middle of the night."

    ِ، قَاَل أَْخبََرنَا َخاِلدُ ْبُن َعْبِد الرَّ دٌ ـ يَْعنِي اْبَن ُمقَاتٍِل ـ قَاَل أَْخبََرنَا َعْبدُ َّللاَّ ِ َحدَّثَنَا ُمَحمَّ ْحَمِن، َحدَّثَنِي َغاِلٌب اْلقَطَّاُن، َعْن بَْكِر ْبِن َعْبِد َّللاَّ

    ِ، َعْن أَنَِس ْبِن َماِلٍك، قَالَ ِ صلى هللا عليه وسلم بِالظََّهائِِر فََسَجدْنَا َعلَى ثِيَابِنَا ات ِقَاَء اْلحَ اْلُمَزنِي .ر ِ كُنَّا إِذَا َصلَّْينَا َخْلَف َرُسوِل َّللاَّ

    Anas bin Malik (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) narrated that when we offered the Zuhr prayers behind Allah's Messenger ( هللا وسلمصلى آله و عليه ) we used to prostrate on our clothes to protect ourselves from the heat.

    CHAPTER (12)

    باب تَأِْخيِر الظُّْهِر إِلَى اْلعَْصرِ

    To delay the Zuhr up to the time of Asr

    Ibn Abbas (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) narraated that the Prophet (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) prayed eight rak`at for the Zuhr and `Asr, and seven for the Maghrib and `Isha prayers in Medina." Ayyub (تعالی عنہ تعالی عنہ) said, "Perhaps those were rainy nights." Anas (رضئ هللا (رضئ هللا said, "May be."

    CHAPTER (13)

    باب َوْقِت اْلعَْصرِ

    The time of the Asr prayer

    ِ صلى هللا عليه وسلم إِْبَراِهيُم ْبُن اْلُمْنِذِر، قَاَل َحدَّثَنَا أَنَُس ْبُن ِعيَاٍض، َعْن ِهَشاٍم، َعْن أَبِيِه، أَنَّ َعائَِشةَ، قَالَْت َكاَحدَّثَنَا َن َرُسوُل َّللاَّ

    .ِهَشاٍم ِمْن قَْعِر ُحْجَرتَِها َوقَاَل أَبُو أَُساَمةَ َعنْ .يَُصل ِي اْلعَْصَر َوالشَّْمُس لَْم تَْخُرْج ِمْن ُحْجَرتَِها

    Ummul Momineen Aisha (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہا) narrated that Allah's Apostle ( صلى هللا عليه و آله used to offer the Asr prayer when the sunshine had not disappeared from my (وسلمchamber.

    Sahih al-Bukhari Vol 1, Bk 9, Hadith # 022

    ِ ص لى هللا عليه وسلم َصلَّى اْلعَْصَر َوالشَّْمُس َحدَّثَنَا قُتَْيبَةُ، قَاَل َحدَّثَنَا اللَّْيُث، َعِن اْبِن ِشَهاٍب، َعْن عُْرَوةَ، َعْن َعائَِشةَ، أَنَّ َرُسوَل َّللاَّ

    .ِر اْلفَْىُء ِمْن ُحْجَرتَِهافِي ُحْجَرتَِها، لَْم يَْظهَ

    Ummul Momineen Aisha (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہا) narrated that Allah's Apostle ( صلى هللا عليه و آله used to offer the Asr prayer when the sunshine was still inside my chamber and (وسلمno shadow had yet appeared in it.

    Ummul Momineen Aisha (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہا) narrated that Allah's Apostle ( صلى هللا عليه و آله used to pray the `Asr prayers at a time when the sunshine was still inside my (وسلمchamber and no shadow had yet appeared in it.

    مَّ يَْرِجُع أََحدُنَا إِلَى َرْحِلِه فِي أَْقَصى اْلَمِدينَِة َوالشَّْمُس َحيَّةٌ ـ َونَِسيُت َما قَاَل فِي اْلَمْغِرِب ـ ِحيَن تَدَْحُض الشَّْمُس، َويَُصل ِي اْلعَْصَر، ثُ

    قَْبلََها َواْلَحدِ َر اْلِعَشاَء الَّتِي تَدْعُونََها اْلعَتََمةَ، َوَكاَن يَْكَرهُ النَّْوَم يَُؤخ ِ يَْستَِحبُّ أَْن بَعْ َوَكاَن يَْنفَتُِل ِمْن َصالَةِ اْلغَدَاةِ ِحيَن يَث دَهَا، َوَكاَن

    ت ِيَن إِلَى اْلِمائَةِ ُجُل َجِليَسهُ، َويَْقَرأُ بِالس ِ .يَْعِرُف الرَّ

    Saiyar bin Salama narrated that 'I along with my father went to Abu Barza Al-Aslami تعالی عنہ) وسلم) and my father asked him, "How Allah's Apostle (رضئ هللا آله و عليه (صلى هللا used to offer the five compulsory congregational prayers?" Abu Barza (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) said, "The Prophet (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) used to pray the Zuhr prayer which you (people) call the first one at midday when the sun had just declined The `Asr prayer at a time when after the prayer, a man could go to the house at the farthest place in Medina (and come back) while the sun was still hot. (I forgot about the Maghrib prayer). The Prophet ( لى هللا عليه و آله وسلمص ) Loved to delay the `Isha which you call the darkness and he disliked sleeping before it and speaking after it. After the Fajr prayer he used to leave when a man could recognize the one sitting beside him and he used to recite between 60 to 100 Ayat (in the Fajr prayer) .

    .اإِلْنَساُن إِلَى بَنِي َعْمِرو ْبِن َعْوٍف فَنَِجدُهُْم يَُصلُّوَن اْلعَْصرَ

    Anas bin Malik (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) narrated 'We used to pray the `Asr prayer and after that if someone happened to go to the tribe of Bani Amr bin Auf, he would find them still praying the Asr (prayer).

    Abu Bakr bin `Uthman bin Sahl bin Hunaif narrated that he heard Abu Umama saying: We prayed the Zuhr prayer with `Umar bin Abdul `Aziz and then went to Anas bin Malik (تعالی عنہ !and found him offering the Asr prayer. I asked him, "O uncle (رضئ هللا

    Which prayer have you offered?" He said 'The Asr and this is (the time of) the prayer of Allah s Apostle (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) which we used to pray with him."

    ى اْلعََواِلي فَيَأْتِيِهْم َوالشَّْمُس ُمْرتَِفعَةٌ، َوبَْعُض اْلعََواِلي ِمَن اْلَمِدينَِة َعلَى أَْربَعَِة أَْميَاٍل ْمُس ُمْرتَِفعَةٌ َحيَّةٌ، فَيَذْهَُب الذَّاِهُب إِلَ اْلعَْصَر َوالشَّ

    .أَْو نَْحِوِه

    Anas bin Malik (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) narrated that Allah's Apostle (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) used to offer the `Asr prayer at a time when the sun was still hot and high and if a person went to Al-`Awali (a place) of Medina, he would reach there when the sun was still high. Some of Al Awali of Medina were about four miles or so from the town.

    ِ ْبُن يُوُسَف، قَاَل أَْخبََرنَا َماِلٌك، َعِن اْبِن ِشَهاٍب، َعْن أَنَِس ْبِن َماِلٍك، قَاَل كُنَّا نَُصل ِي اْلعَْصَر ثُمَّ يَذْهَُب الذَّاِهُب ِمنَّا إِلَى َحدَّثَنَا َعْبدُ َّللاَّ

    .قُبَاٍء، فَيَأْتِيِهْم َوالشَّْمُس ُمْرتَِفعَةٌ

    Anas bin Malik (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) narrated "We used to pray the `Asr and after that if one of us went to Quba' he would arrive there while the sun was still high.

    CHAPTER (14)

    باب إِثِْم َمْن فَاتَتْهُ اْلعَْصرُ

    The sin of one who misses the Asr prayer (intentionally)

    ِ صلى ِ ْبُن يُوُسَف، قَاَل أَْخبََرنَا َماِلٌك، َعْن نَافِعٍ، َعِن اْبِن عَُمَر، أَنَّ َرُسوَل َّللاَّ الَِّذي تَفُوتُهُ َصالَةُ " هللا عليه وسلم قَاَل َحدَّثَنَا َعْبدُ َّللاَّ

    ."ِر َكأَنََّما ُوتَِر أَْهلَهُ َوَمالَهُ اْلعَصْ

    Ibn `Umar (عنہ تعالی هللا وسلم) narrated that Allah's Apostle (رضئ آله و عليه هللا ,said (صلى "Whoever misses the `Asr prayer (intentionally) then it is as if he lost his family and property."

    CHAPTER (15)

    باب َمْن تََرَك اْلعَْصرَ

    One who omits (does not offer) the Asr prayer (intentionally)

    ْبُن أَبِي َحدَّثَنَا ِهَشاٌم، قَاَل َحدَّثَنَا يَْحيَى إِْبَراِهيَم، قَاَل ْبُن فِي َحدَّثَنَا ُمْسِلُم بَُرْيدَةَ َكثِيٍر، َعْن أَبِي قِالَبَةَ، َعْن أَبِي اْلَمِليحِ، قَاَل كُنَّا َمَع

    ُروا بَِصالَةِ اْلعَْصِر فَإِنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى هللا عليه وسلم قَاَل ." َمْن تََرَك َصالَةَ اْلعَْصِر فَقَدْ َحبَِط َعَملُهُ " َغْزَوةٍ فِي يَْوٍم ِذي َغْيٍم فَقَاَل بَك ِ

    Abu Al-Malih (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) narrated that 'we were with Buraida (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) in a battle on a cloudy day and he said, "Offer the `Asr prayer early as the Prophet ( صلى هللاوسلم آله و said, "Whoever leaves the `Asr prayer, all his (good) deeds will be (عليه annulled."

    CHAPTER (16)

    باب فَْضِل َصالَةِ اْلعَْصرِ

    Excellence of the Asr prayer

    Sahih al-Bukhari Vol 1, Bk 9, Hadith # 031

    ، قَاَل َحدَّثَنَا َمْرَواُن ْبُن ُمعَاِويَةَ، قَاَل َحدَّثَنَا ِ صلى هللا عليه وسلم َحدَّثَنَا اْلُحَمْيِديُّ إِْسَماِعيُل، َعْن قَْيٍس، َعْن َجِريٍر، قَاَل كُنَّا ِعْندَ النَّبِي

    فَقَاَل يَْعنِي اْلبَدَْر ـ لَْيلَةً ـ اْلقََمِر إِلَى فَإِ "فَنََظَر ُرْؤيَتِِه، وَن فِي َربَّكُْم َكَما تََرْوَن هَذَا اْلقََمَر الَ تَُضامُّ َستََرْوَن ِن اْستََطْعتُْم أَْن الَ إِنَّكُْم

    لُوعِ الشَّْمِس َوقَْبَل غُُروبَِها فَاْفعَلُوا قَاَل .{َوَسب ِْح بَِحْمِد َرب َِك قَْبَل طُلُوعِ الشَّْمِس َوقَْبَل اْلغُُروِب }ثُمَّ قََرأَ ."تُْغلَبُوا َعلَى َصالَةٍ قَْبَل طُ

    .إِْسَماِعيُل اْفعَلُوا الَ تَفُوتَنَّكُمْ

    Qais narrated that Jarir (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) said, "We were with the Prophet ( صلى هللا عليه و آله and he looked at the moon and said, 'Certainly you will see your Lord as you see (وسلمthis moon and you will have no trouble in seeing Him. So if you can avoid missing a prayer before the sunrise (Fajr) and a prayer before sunset (Asr), you must do so.' He then recited Allah's Statement - [And celebrate the praises Of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before (its) setting.] (Qaaf - 39). Ismail said, "Offer those prayers and do not miss them."

    الَةِ اْلفَْجِر َوَصالَةِ اْلعَْصِر، ثُمَّ يَْعُرُج الَِّذيَن بَاتُوا فِيكُْم، فَيَْسأَلُُهْم صَ يَتَعَاقَبُوَن فِيكُْم َمالَئَِكةٌ بِاللَّْيِل َوَمالَئَِكةٌ بِالنََّهاِر، َويَْجتَِمعُوَن فِي "

    بَاِدي فَيَقُولُوَن تََرْكنَاهُْم َوهُْم يَُصلُّوَن، َوأَتَْينَاهُْم َوهُْم يَُصلُّوَن َوْهَو أَْعلَُم بِِهْم َكْيَف تََرْكتُْم عِ " .

    Abu Huraira (عنہ تعالی هللا وسلم) narrated that Allah's Apostle (رضئ آله و عليه هللا ,said (صلى "Angels come to you in succession by night and day and all of them get together at the time of the Fajr and Asr prayers. Those who have passed the night with you (or stayed with you) ascend (to the Heaven) and Allah asks them, though He knows everything about you, well, "In what state did you leave my servants?" The angels reply: "When we left them they were praying and when we reached them, they were praying."

    CHAPTER (17)

    باب َمْن أَدَْرَك َرْكعَةً ِمَن اْلعَْصِر قَْبَل اْلغُُروبِ

    Whoever got (or was able to offer) only one Rak'a of the Asr prayer before sunset

    قَاَل قَاَل هَُرْيَرةَ، أَبِي َعْن َسلََمةَ، أَبِي َعْن يَْحيَى، َعْن َشْيبَاُن، َحدَّثَنَا قَاَل نُعَْيٍم، أَبُو ِ صلى هللا عليه وسلم َحدَّثَنَا إِذَا " َرُسوُل َّللاَّ

    فَ الشَّْمُس تَْغُرَب أَْن قَْبَل اْلعَْصِر َصالَةِ ِمْن َسْجدَةً أََحدُكُْم تَْطلَُع أَدَْرَك أَْن قَْبَل ْبحِ الصُّ َصالَةِ ِمْن َسْجدَةً أَدَْرَك َوإِذَا َصالَتَهُ، ْليُتِمَّ

    ."الشَّْمُس فَْليُتِمَّ َصالَتَهُ

    Abu Huraira (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) narrated that Allah's Apostle (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) said, "If anyone of you can get one rak`a of the Asr prayer before sunset, he should complete his prayer. If any of you can get one rak`a of the Fajr prayer before sunrise, he should complete his prayer."

    يَقُوُل ِ صلى هللا عليه وسلم قَْبلَكُْم ِمَن األَُمِم َكمَ " َّللاَّ َسلََف بَقَاُؤكُْم فِيَما إِلَى غُُروِب الشَّْمِس، أُوتَِي أَْهُل إِنََّما بَْيَن َصالَةِ اْلعَْصِر ا

    أَْهُل اإِلْنِجيِل اإِلْنِجيَل فَعَِملُوا إِلَى َصالَةِ التَّْوَراةِ التَّْوَراةَ فَعَِملُوا َحتَّى إِذَا اْنتََصَف النََّهاُر َعَجُزوا، فَأُْعطُوا قِيَراًطا قِيَراًطا، ثُمَّ أُوتِيَ

    ثُمَّ أُوتِينَا اْلقُْرآَن فَعَِمْلنَا إِلَى غُُروِب الشَّْمِس، فَأُْعطِ اْلعَ ثُمَّ َعَجُزوا، فَأُْعطُوا قِيَراًطا قِيَراًطا، فَقَاَل أَْهُل ْصِر، ينَا قِيَراَطْيِن قِيَراَطْيِن،

    َربَّنَا أَْعَطْيَت هَُؤالَِء قِيَراَطْيِن قِيَراَطْيِن، َوأَعْ ُ َعزَّ َوَجلَّ هَْل اْلِكتَابَْيِن أَْى َطْيتَنَا قِيَراًطا قِيَراًطا، َونَْحُن كُنَّا أَْكثََر َعَمالً، قَاَل قَاَل َّللاَّ

    ."َظلَْمتُكُْم ِمْن أَْجِركُْم ِمْن َشْىٍء قَالُوا الَ، قَاَل فَْهَو فَْضِلي أُوتِيِه َمْن أََشاُء

    Salim bin Abdullah (تعالی عنہ narrated "My father said, "I heard Allah's Apostle (رضئ هللا saying, 'The period of your stay as compared to the previous nations (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم)is like the period equal to the time between the Asr prayer and sunset. The people of the Torah were given the Torah and they acted (upon it) till midday then they were exhausted and were given one Qirat (of gold) each. And then the people of the Gospel were given the Gospel and they acted (upon it) till the Asr prayer then they were exhausted and were given one Qirat each. And then we were given the Quran and we acted (upon it) till sunset and we were given two Qirats each. On that the people of both the scriptures said, 'O our Lord! You have given them two Qirats and given us one Qirat, though we have worked more than they.' Allah said, 'Have I usurped some of your right?' They said, 'No.' Allah said: "That is my blessing I bestow upon whomsoever I wish."

    النَّ َعِن ُموَسى، أَبِي َعْن بُْردَةَ، أَبِي َعْن َرْيٍد، بُ َعْن أَُساَمةَ، أَبُو َحدَّثَنَا قَاَل كَُرْيٍب، أَبُو وسلم َحدَّثَنَا عليه هللا صلى ِ َمثَُل " بِي

    لَهُ يَْعَملُوَن َواْليَُهوِد َوالنََّصاَرى َكَمثَِل َرُجٍل اْستَأَْجَر قَْوًما إِ اْلُمْسِلِميَن لَنَا َعَمالً إِلَى نِْصِف النََّهاِر، فَقَالُوا الَ َحاَجةَ لَى اللَّْيِل، فَعَِملُوا

    فَعَِملُوا َحتَّى َشَرْطُت، الَِّذي َولَكُُم يَْوِمكُْم، بَِقيَّةَ أَْكِملُوا فَقَاَل آَخِريَن فَاْستَأَْجَر أَْجِرَك، قَالُ إِلَى َكاَن ِحيَن َصالَةِ اْلعَْصِر َما إِذَا لََك وا

    فَاْستَأَْجَر قَْوًما فَعَِملُوا بَِقيَّةَ يَْوِمِهْم َحتَّى َغابَِت الشَّْمُس، َواْستَْكَملُوا أَْجَر اْلفَِريقَْيِن .َعِمْلنَا " .

    Abu Musa (عنہ تعالی هللا وسلم) narrated that the Prophet (رضئ آله و عليه هللا said, "The (صلى example of Muslims, Jews and Christians is like the example of a man who employed laborers to work for him from morning till night. They worked till midday and they said, 'We are not in need of your reward.' So the man employed another batch and said to them, 'Complete the rest of the day and yours will be the wages I had fixed (for the first batch). They worked until the time of the Asr prayer and said, 'Whatever we have done is for you.' He employed another batch. They worked for the rest of the day till sunset, and they received the wages of the two former batches."

    CHAPTER (18)

    باب َوْقِت اْلَمْغِربِ

    The time of the Maghrib prayer

    َوقَاَل َعَطاٌء يَْجَمُع اْلَمِريُض بَْيَن اْلَمْغِرِب َواْلِعَشاءِ

    Ata said, a patient could pray Maghrib and Isha together

    ، قَاَل َحدَّثَنَا أَبُو النَّ دُ ْبُن ِمْهَراَن، قَاَل َحدَّثَنَا اْلَوِليدُ، قَاَل َحدَّثَنَا األَْوَزاِعيُّ ِ، ُصَهْيٌب َمْولَى َرافِعِ ْبِن َخِديجٍ قَاَل َسِمْعُت َحدَّثَنَا ُمَحمَّ َجاِشي

    ِ صلى هللا عليه وسلم فَيَْنَصِرُف أََحدُنَا َوإِنَّهُ لَيُْبِصُر َمَواقَِع نَْبِلهِ َخِديجٍ، يَقُوُل كُنَّا نَُصل ِي اْلَمْغرِ َرافَِع ْبنَ .َب َمَع النَّبِي

    Rafi` bin Khadij (عنہ تعالی هللا narrated that ' We used to offer the Maghrib prayer (رضئ with the Prophet ( وسلمص آله و عليه لى هللا ) and after finishing the prayer one of us may go away and could still see us as far as the spots where one's arrow might reach when shot by a bow.

    ْبُن بَشَّاٍر، قَالَ دُ ِد ْبِن َعْمِرو ْبِن اْلَحَسِن ْبنِ َحدَّثَنَا ُمَحمَّ ْبُن َجْعفٍَر، قَاَل َحدَّثَنَا ُشْعبَةُ، َعْن َسْعٍد، َعْن ُمَحمَّ دُ ٍ، قَاَل قَِدَم َحدَّثَنَا ُمَحمَّ َعِلي

    يَُصل ِي الظُّ ِ فَقَاَل َكاَن النَّبِيُّ صلى هللا عليه وسلم اُج فََسأَْلنَا َجابَِر ْبَن َعْبِد َّللاَّ ْهَر بِاْلَهاِجَرةِ، َواْلعَْصَر َوالشَّْمُس نَِقيَّةٌ، َواْلَمْغِرَب اْلَحجَّ

    َر، وَ َل، َوإِذَا َرآهُْم أَْبَطْوا أَخَّ ْبَح َكانُوا ـ أَْو َكاَن النَّبِيُّ صلى هللا عليه إِذَا َوَجبَْت، َواْلِعَشاَء أَْحيَانًا َوأَْحيَانًا، إِذَا َرآهُُم اْجتََمعُوا َعجَّ الصُّ

    .لم يَُصل ِيَها بِغَلٍَس وس

    Jabir bin Abdullah (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) narrated that the Prophet (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) used to pray the Zuhr at midday, the Asr at a time when the sun was still bright, the Maghrib after sunset (at its stated time) and the `Isha at a variable time. Whenever he saw the people assembled (for `Isha' prayer) he would pray earlier and if the people delayed, he would delay the prayer. And they or the Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) used to offer the Fajr Prayers when it is still dark.

    نَُصل ِي كُنَّا قَاَل َسلََمةَ، َعْن عُبَْيٍد، أَبِي ْبُن يَِزيدُ َحدَّثَنَا قَاَل إِْبَراِهيَم، ْبُن يُّ اْلَمك ِ إِذَا َحدَّثَنَا اْلَمْغِرَب ِ صلى هللا عليه وسلم النَّبِي َمَع

    .تََواَرْت بِاْلِحَجابِ

    Salama ( عالی عنہرضئ هللا ت ) narrated 'We used to pray the Maghrib prayer with the Prophet .'when the sun disappeared from the horizon (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم)

    Sahih al-Bukhari Vol 1, Bk 9, Hadith # 039

    ليه َحدَّثَنَا َعْمُرو ْبُن ِدينَاٍر، قَاَل َسِمْعُت َجابَِر ْبَن َزْيٍد، َعِن اْبِن َعبَّاٍس، قَاَل َصلَّى النَّبِيُّ صلى هللا عَحدَّثَنَا آدَُم، قَاَل َحدَّثَنَا ُشْعبَةُ، قَاَل

    .وسلم َسْبعًا َجِميعًا َوثََمانِيًا َجِميعًا

    Ibn `Abbas (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) narrated that the Prophet ( وسلم صلى هللا عليه و آله ) prayed seven rakat together and eight rakat together.

    CHAPTER (19)

    باب َمْن َكِرهَ أَْن يُقَاَل ِلْلَمْغِرِب اْلِعَشاءُ

    Whoever disliked calling the Maghrib prayer as the 'Isha' prayer

    Sahih al-Bukhari Vol 1, Bk 9, Hadith # 040

    ِ ْبُن َعْمٍرو ـ قَاَل َحدَّثَنَا َعْبدُ اْلَواِرِث، َعِن اْلُحَسْيِن، قَاَل حَ ِ َحدَّثَنَا أَبُو َمْعَمٍر ـ هَُو َعْبدُ َّللاَّ ِ ْبُن بَُرْيدَةَ، قَاَل َحدَّثَنِي َعْبدُ َّللاَّ دَّثَنَا َعْبدُ َّللاَّ

    ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى هللا عليه وسلم قَاَل الْ .قَاَل األَْعَراُب َوتَقُوُل ِهَي اْلِعَشاءُ ."الَ تَْغِلبَنَّكُُم األَْعَراُب َعلَى اْسِم َصالَتِكُُم اْلَمْغِرِب " ُمَزنِيُّ

    Abdullah Al-Muzani (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) narrated that the Prophet (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) said, "Do not be influenced by bedouins regarding the name of your Maghrib prayer which is called `Isha' by them."

    CHAPTER (20)

    باب ِذْكِر اْلِعَشاِء َواْلعَتََمِة َوَمْن َرآهُ َواِسعًا

    The mention of 'Isha' and 'Atamah' (Salah at the time of darkness of night) and whoever took the two

    names as one and the same

    ُ َعلَْيِه َوَسلََّم: »أَثْقَُل الصَّالَةِ َعلَى قَاَل أَبُو هَُرْيَرةَ َعِن النَّبِيِ َصلَّى َّللاَّ

    «اْلُمنَافِِقيَن اْلِعَشاُء َواْلفَْجرُ

    َوقَاَل: لَْو يَْعلَُموَن َما فِي اْلعَتََمِة َواْلفَْجرِ

    Abu Hurairah ( تعالی عنہرضئ هللا ) narrated that the Prophet (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) said, the most difficult and hardest prayers for the hypocrites are the Isha and Fajr. He added, had they known what is (the reward of) the Isha and the Fajr, they would have

    come to attend these even if they had to crawl.

    ِ َوااِلْختِيَاُر أَْن يَقُوَل اْلِعَشاُء ِلقَْوِلِه تَعَالَى: }َوِمْن بَْعِد قَاَل أَبُو َعْبِد َّللاَّ

    َصالَةِ اْلِعَشاِء{

    Abu Abdullah (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) said, 'And it is better that one should call it 'Isha' because of the saying of

    Allah [And after the Isha prayer.] (An-Noor - 58)

    ُ َعلَْيِه َوَسلََّم َويُذَْكُر َعْن أَبِي ُموَسى قَاَل كُنَّا نَتَنَاَوُب النَّبِيَّ َصلَّى َّللاَّ

    فَأَْعتََم بَِها ِعْندَ َصالَةِ اْلِعَشاءِ And it has been related of Abu Musa ( رضئ هللا تعالی that he said, 'We used to be with the Prophet (عنہ

    at Isha prayer from time to time (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم)and he would pray it late.'

    ُ َعلَْيِه َوَسلََّم بِاْلِعَشاءِ َوقَاَل اْبُن َعبَّاٍس َوَعائَِشةُ أَْعتََم ا لنَّبِيُّ َصلَّى َّللاَّ

    And Ibn Abbas (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) and Ummul Momineen Aisha (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہا) said, 'The Prophet

    .delayed the Isha prayer (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم)

    ُ َعلَْيِه َوَسلََّم بِاْلعَتََمةِ َوقَاَل بَْعُضُهْم َعْن َعائَِشةَ أَْعتََم النَّبِيُّ َصلَّى َّللاَّ

    Then some of them reported on the authority of Ummul Momineen Aisha (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہا), the Prophet (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) delayed the 'Atama' (Salah at the time of darkness of night) prayer.

    ُ َعلَْيِه َوَسلََّم يَُصِل ي اْلِعَشاءَ .َوقَاَل َجابٌِر َكاَن النَّبِيُّ َصلَّى َّللاَّ

    And Jabir (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) said, the Prophet ( صلى هللا .used to pray Isha (عليه و آله وسلم

    ُر اْلِعَشاءَ َوقَاَل أَبُو بَْرَزةَ َكاَن النَّبِيُّ َصلَّى ُ َعلَْيِه َوَسلََّم يَُؤِخ َّللاَّ .

    And Abu Barza (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) said, 'the Prophet '.used to delay Isha prayer (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم)

    ُ َعلَْيِه َوَسلََّم اْلِعَشاَء اآلِخَرةَ َر النَّبِيُّ َصلَّى َّللاَّ .َوقَاَل أَنٌَس أَخَّ

    And Anas (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) said, 'the Prophet ( صلى هللا .delayed the Isha prayer (عليه و آله وسلم

    ُ َعْنُهْم َصلَّى النَّبِيُّ َوقَاَل اْبُن عَُمَر َوأَبُو أَيُّوَب َواْبُن َعبَّاٍس َرِضَي َّللاَّ

    ُ َعلَْيِه َوَسلََّم اْلَمْغِرَب َواْلِعَشاءَ َصلَّى َّللاَّ

    And Ibn Umar, Abu Ayyub and Ibn Abbas ( رضئ هللا (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) said, 'the Prophet (تعالی عنہم

    prayed Maghrib and Isha.

    ِ، قَاَل ِ صلى هللا َحدَّثَنَا َعْبدَاُن، قَاَل أَْخبََرنَا َعْبدُ َّللاَّ ِ، قَاَل َصلَّى لَنَا َرُسوُل َّللاَّ ِ، قَاَل َساِلٌم أَْخبََرنِي َعْبدُ َّللاَّ ْهِري أَْخبََرنَا يُونُُس، َعِن الزُّ

    َرأَْس ِمائَِة " قَالَ عليه وسلم لَْيلَةً َصالَةَ اْلِعَشاِء ـ َوْهَى الَّتِي يَدْعُو النَّاُس اْلعَتََمةَ ـ ثُمَّ اْنَصَرَف فَأَْقبََل َعلَْينَا فَ أََرأَْيتُْم لَْيلَتَكُْم هَِذِه فَإِنَّ

    ْن هَُو َعلَى َظْهِر األَْرِض أََحدٌ ."َسنٍَة ِمْنَها الَ يَْبقَى ِممَّ

    Abdullah (تعالی عنہ آله وسلم) narrated that one night Allah's Apostle (رضئ هللا عليه و (صلى هللا led us in the `Isha' prayer and that is the one called Al-Atama (Salah at the time of darkness of night) by the people. After the completion of the prayer, he faced us and said, "Do you know the importance of this night? Nobody present on the surface of the earth tonight will be living after one hundred years from this night."

    Explanation

    Probably that was a blessed night ( ٍُمبَاَرَكة وسلم) and the Prophet (لَْيلٍَة آله و عليه was (صلى هللا emphasizing that the lives of the people on planet earth are limited and it is important for them to do as much virtuous deeds as possible and take advantage of the blessed nights.

    CHAPTER (21)

    ُروا باب َوْقِت اْلِعَشاِء إِذَا اْجتََمَع النَّاُس أَْو تَأَخَّ

    The time of the Isha prayer. If the people get together (pray earlier), and if they come late (delay it)

    َل، َوإِذَا قَلُّوا أَ ْبَح بِغَلٍَس َواْلِعَشاَء إِذَا َكثَُر النَّاُس َعجَّ َر، َوالصُّ .خَّ

    Muhammad bin Amr narrated 'We asked Jabir bin Abdullah (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) about the prayers of the Prophet (وسلم آله عليه و He said, "He used to pray Zuhr prayer at .(صلى هللا midday, the Asr when the sun was still hot, and the Maghrib after sunset (at its stated time). The Isha was offered early if the people gathered, and used to be delayed if their number was less; and the morning prayer was offered when it was still dark. "

    CHAPTER (22)

    باب فَْضِل اْلِعَشاءِ

    The excellence of Isha prayer

    Sahih al-Bukhari Vol 1, Bk 9, Hadith # 043

    ِ صلى َحدَّثَنَا يَْحيَى ْبُن بَُكْيٍر، قَاَل َحدَّثَنَا اللَّْيُث، َعْن عُقَْيٍل، َعِن اْبِن ِشَهاٍب، َعْن عُْرَوةَ، أَنَّ َعائِشَ ةَ، أَْخبََرتْهُ قَالَْت، أَْعتََم َرُسوُل َّللاَّ

    ْبيَانُ هللا عليه وسلم لَْيلَةً بِاْلِعَشاِء، َوذَِلَك قَْبَل أَْن يَْفُشَو اإِلْسالَُم، فَلَْم يَْخُرْج َحتَّى قَاَل عَُمُر نَاَم ال فََخَرَج فَقَاَل ألَْهِل اْلَمْسِجِد .ن َِساُء َوالص ِ

    ."َما يَْنتَِظُرهَا أََحدٌ ِمْن أَْهِل األَْرِض َغْيُركُْم "

    Ummul Momineen Aisha (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہا) narrated that Allah's Apostle ( صلى هللا عليه و آله once delayed the `Isha' prayer and that was during the days when Islam still had (وسلمnot spread. The Prophet (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) did not come out till `Umar (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) informed him that the women and children had slept. Then he came out and said to the people of the mosque : "None among the dwellers of the earth had been waiting for it (`Isha prayer) except you."

    بُْردَةَ، َعْن أَبِي ُموسَ َرْيٍد، َعْن أَبِي بُ أَبُو أَُساَمةَ، َعْن ْبُن اْلعَالَِء، قَاَل أَْخبََرنَا دُ أَنَا َوأَْصَحابِي الَِّذيَن، قَِدُموا َحدَّثَنَا ُمَحمَّ ى، قَاَل كُْنُت

    ِفينَِة نُُزوالً فِي بَِقيعِ بُْطَحاَن، َوالنَّبِيُّ صلى هللا عليه وسلم بِاْلَمِدينَِة، فََكاَن يَتَنَاَوُب النَّبِيَّ صلى هللا عليه وسلم ِعْندَ َصالَةِ َمِعي فِي السَّ

    ْعِض أَْمِرِه فَأَْعتََم بِالصَّالَةِ َحتَّى اْبَهارَّ فِي بَ اْلِعَشاِء كُلَّ لَْيلٍَة نَفٌَر ِمْنُهْم، فََوافَْقنَا النَّبِيَّ ـ عليه السالم ـ أَنَا َوأَْصَحابِي َولَهُ بَْعُض الشُّْغلِ

    ا قََضى َصالَتَهُ قَاَل ِلَمْن َحَضَرهُ ِ "اللَّْيُل، ثُمَّ َخَرَج النَّبِيُّ صلى هللا عليه وسلم فََصلَّى بِِهْم، فَلَمَّ َعلَى ِرْسِلكُْم، أَْبِشُروا إِنَّ ِمْن نِْعَمِة َّللاَّ

    الَ يَدِْري أَىَّ اْلَكِلَمتَْيِن ."َما َصلَّى هَِذِه السَّاَعةَ أََحدٌ َغْيُركُْم "أَْو قَاَل ."ِمَن النَّاِس يَُصل ِي هَِذِه السَّاَعةَ َغْيُركُْم َس أََحدٌ َعلَْيكُْم أَنَّهُ لَيْ

    ِ .قَالَ . صلى هللا عليه وسلمقَاَل أَبُو ُموَسى فََرَجْعنَا فَفَِرْحنَا بَِما َسِمْعنَا ِمْن َرُسوِل َّللاَّ

    Abu Musa (تعالی عنہ narrated "My companions, who came with me in the boat (رضئ هللا and I landed in the plain of But-haan ( َبَِقيعِ بُْطَحان). The Prophet (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) was in Medina at that time. One of us used to go to the Prophet (آله وسلم by turns (صلى هللا عليه و every night at the time of the `Isha prayer. Once I along with my companions went to the Prophet (وسلم آله و عليه هللا 'and he was busy in some of his affairs, so the `Isha (صلى prayer was delayed to the middle of the night He then came out and led the people (in prayer). After finishing from the prayer, he addressed the people present there saying, "Be patient! Don't go away. Have the glad tiding. It is from the blessing of Allah upon you that none among mankind has prayed at this time save you." Or said, "None except you has prayed at this time." Abu Musa (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) added, 'So we returned happily after what we heard from Allah's Apostle (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم)."

    CHAPTER (23)

    َرهُ ِمَن النَّْوِم قَْبَل اْلِعَشاءِ باب َما يُكْ

    What is disliked about sleeping before the 'Isha prayer

    َحدَّثَنَا ، قَاَل اْلَوهَّاِب الثَّقَِفيُّ ْبُن َسالٍَم، قَاَل أَْخبََرنَا َعْبدُ دُ ِ َحدَّثَنَا ُمَحمَّ َرُسوَل َّللاَّ بَْرَزةَ، أَنَّ َعْن أَبِي اْلِمْنَهاِل، َعْن أَبِي اْلَحذَّاُء، َخاِلدٌ

    .صلى هللا عليه وسلم َكاَن يَْكَرهُ النَّْوَم قَْبَل اْلِعَشاِء َواْلَحِديَث بَْعدَهَا

    Abu Barza (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) narrated that Allah's Apostle ( آله وسلمصلى هللا عليه و ) disliked to sleep before the `Isha' prayer and to talk after it.

    CHAPTER (24)

    باب النَّْوِم قَْبَل اْلِعَشاِء ِلَمْن غُِلبَ

    Sleeping before the 'Isha prayer if (one is) over-whelmed by it (sleep)

    ي اْبُن ِشَهاٍب، َعْن عُْرَوةَ، أَنَّ َعائَِشةَ، قَالَْت َحدَّثَنَا أَيُّوُب ْبُن ُسلَْيَماَن، قَاَل َحدَّثَنِي أَبُو بَْكٍر، َعْن ُسلَْيَماَن، قَاَل َصاِلُح ْبُن َكْيَساَن أَْخبََرنِ

    لِ قَاَل َوالَ يَُصلَّى يَْوَمئٍِذ إاِلَّ بِاْلَمِدينَِة، َوَكانُوا يَُصلُّوَن فِيَما بَْيَن أَْن يَِغيَب الشَّفَُق إِلَ ."أَْهِل األَْرِض َغْيُركُْم .ى ثُلُِث اللَّْيِل األَوَّ

    Ibn Shihab narrated from `Urwa that Ummul Momineen Aisha (تعالی عنہا : said (رضئ هللا "Once Allah's Apostle (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) delayed the `Isha' prayer till `Umar ( رضئ هللاعنہ .reminded him by saying, "The prayer!" The women and children have slept (تعالی Then the Prophet (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) came out and said, 'None amongst the dwellers of the earth has been waiting for it (the prayer) except you." `Urwa said, "Nowhere except in Medina the prayer used to be offered (in those days)." He further said, "The Prophet وسلم) آله و عليه هللا used to offer the `Isha' prayer in the period between the (صلى disappearance of the twilight and the end of the first third of the night."

    نَافٌِع، قَالَ اِق، قَاَل أَْخبََرنِي اْبُن ُجَرْيجٍ، قَاَل أَْخبََرنِي زَّ ِ َحدَّثَنَا َمْحُمودٌ، قَاَل أَْخبََرنَا َعْبدُ الرَّ َرُسوَل َّللاَّ ْبُن عَُمَر، أَنَّ ِ َحدَّثَنَا َعْبدُ َّللاَّ

    َرهَا َحتَّى َرقَدْنَا فِي اْلَمْسِجِد، ثُمَّ اْستَْيقَْظنَا ثُمَّ َرقَدْنَا ثُمَّ اْستَْيقَْظنَا، ثُمَّ َخَرَج َعلَيْ صلى هللا عليه وسلم ُشِغَل َعْنَها لَْيلَةً، نَا النَّبِيُّ صلى فَأَخَّ

    َرهَا إِذَا َكاَن الَ َوَكانَ ."لَْيَس أََحدٌ ِمْن أَْهِل األَْرِض يَْنتَِظُر الصَّالَةَ َغْيُركُْم "هللا عليه وسلم ثُمَّ قَاَل اْبُن عَُمَر الَ يُبَاِلي أَقَدََّمَها أَْم أَخَّ

    ِ .يَْخَشى أَْن يَْغِلبَهُ النَّْوُم َعْن َوْقتَِها، َوَكاَن يَْرقُدُ قَْبلََها صلى قَاَل اْبُن ُجَرْيجٍ قُْلُت ِلعََطاٍء َوقَاَل َسِمْعُت اْبَن َعبَّاٍس، يَقُوُل أَْعتََم َرُسوُل َّللاَّ

    قَاَل َعَطاٌء قَاَل .اْلَخطَّاِب فَقَاَل الصَّالَةَ هللا عليه وسلم لَْيلَةً بِاْلِعَشاِء َحتَّى َرقَدَ النَّاُس َواْستَْيقَظُوا، َوَرقَدُوا َواْستَْيقَظُوا، فَقَاَم عَُمُر ْبُن

    ِ صلى هللا عليه وسلم َكأَن ِي أَنْ لَْوالَ أَْن أَُشقَّ "ظُُر إِلَْيِه اآلَن، يَْقطُُر َرأُْسهُ َماًء، َواِضعًا يَدَهُ َعلَى َرأِْسِه فَقَاَل اْبُن َعبَّاٍس فََخَرَج نَبِيُّ َّللاَّ

    هََكذَا يَُصلُّوهَا أَْن ألََمْرتُُهْم تِي أُمَّ يَدَ ."َعلَى َرأِْسِه َعلَى وسلم عليه النَّبِيُّ صلى هللا َوَضَع َكْيَف َعَطاًء اْبُن فَاْستَثْبَتُّ أَْنبَأَهُ َكَما هُ

    ال قَْرِن َعلَى أََصابِِعِه أَْطَراَف َوَضَع ثُمَّ تَْبِديٍد، ِمْن َشْيئًا أََصابِِعِه بَْيَن َعَطاٌء ِلي فَبَدَّدَ َعلَى َعبَّاٍس، َكذَِلَك هَا يُِمرُّ َها، َضمَّ ثُمَّ أِْس رَّ

    أِْس َحتَّى َمسَّْت إِْبَهاُمهُ َطَرَف األُذُِن مِ ُر َوالَ يَْبطُُش إاِلَّ َكذَِلَك َوقَاَل الرَّ ا يَِلي اْلَوْجهَ َعلَى الصُّدْغِ، َونَاِحيَِة الل ِْحيَِة، الَ يُقَص ِ لَْوالَ أَْن "مَّ

    تِي ألََمْرتُُهْم أَْن يَُصلُّوا هََكذَا ." أَُشقَّ َعلَى أُمَّ

    Ibn Juraij narrated from Nafi`that Abdullah bin `Umar (عنہ تعالی هللا said, "Once (رضئ Allah's Apostle (وسلم آله و عليه was busy (at the time of the `Isha'), so the prayer (صلى هللا was delayed so much so that we slept and woke up and slept and woke up again. The Prophet (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) came out and said, 'None among the dwellers of the earth but you have been waiting for the prayer."

    Ibn Umar (تعالی عنہ did not find any harm in praying it earlier or in delaying it (رضئ هللا unless he was afraid that sleep might overwhelm him and he might miss the prayer, and sometimes he used to sleep before the `Isha' prayer.

    Ibn Juraij said, "I said to `Ata', 'I heard Ibn Abbas (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) saying: Once Allah's Apostle (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) delayed the `Isha' prayer to such an extent that the people slept and got up and slept again and got up again. Then `Umar bin Al-Khattab ( رضئ هللا 'about the prayer.' `Ata (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) stood up and reminded the Prophet (تعالی عنہ

    said, 'Ibn `Abbas (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) said: The Prophet ( و آله وسلمصلى هللا عليه ) came out as if I was looking at him at this time, and water was trickling from his head and he was putting his hand on his head and then said, 'Hadn't I thought it hard for my followers, I would have ordered them to pray (`Isha') at this time.' I asked `Ata' for further information, how the Prophet (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) had kept his hand on his head as he was told by Ibn `Abbas (عنہ تعالی هللا Ata' separated his fingers slightly and put` .(رضئ their tips on the side of the head, brought the fingers downwards approximating them till the thumb touched the lobe of the ear at the side of the temple and the beard on the face. He neither slowed nor hurried in this action but he acted like that. The Prophet وسلم) آله و عليه هللا said: "Hadn't I thought it hard for my followers I would have (صلى ordered them to pray at this time."

    CHAPTER (25)

    باب َوْقِت اْلِعَشاِء إِلَى نِْصِف اللَّْيلِ

    Time of the 'Isha prayer is up to the middle of the night
