    In Jesus and Mary,

    Father Jeff Kegley Pastor

    Jesus is Lord!

Dear Brothers and Sister In Christ,

The Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord is one of the great solemnities in the Christian liturgical calendar, and commemorates the bodily ascension of Jesus into heaven. Ascension Day is traditionally celebrated on a Thursday, the fortieth day of Easter. However, this year because of the Coronavirus, the New Jersey Bishops have moved the observance to this Sunday, which would have celebrated the seventh Sunday of Easter.

This past week, our parish started to celebrate daily “in car” parking lot Masses at noon from the Mater Dei parking lot facing the red barn. The experience of gathering after a two month absence with our parishioners to celebrate the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass has been very emotional for the people and the priests. Here are some of the responses on Facebook:

Thank you and God Bless you Fr Jeff for giving us the opportunity to attend Mass and receive Holy Communion Again. It was great! – Janet

Thank you, Fathers. I was so happy to be at Mass and receive the Eucharist. I’ve missed the Liturgy and Communion so much; it was so meaningful to be able to receive the Body of Christ again. -Marianne

Thank you for the Mass! It was so wonderful to receive Jesus! - Bill

I feel like I did when I received my first communion. I feel so blessed. We do have such a great parish and team of priests. Thank you. – Roberta

Cried receiving communion. Spread the word, wonderful faith in action. Another miracle at St. Mary’s. God is good! All the time. All the time. God is good. - Mary

It was just beautiful and a Mass to remember! - George

Awesome after noon with the car Mass tears of joy when I saw Fr Jeff walking towards my car with Jesus. - Caitlin

Beautiful Mass, so happy to be among the community again. - John

I want to thank our wonderful staff and volunteers for setting up the PA system, stage, Mass and parking lot each day to allow these Masses to happen. As I always say: “We are blessed!”

Monday of nation celebrates Memorial Day. Please join us at noon Mass as we remember the men and women who gave their lives serving our country and defending our freedom. May the rest in peace.

Pope Francis encourages Christians to be generous witnesses

During the General Audience, Pope Francis encourages the faithful to be generous witnesses of Christ in preparation for the liturgical feast of the Ascension of the Lord.

“As we prepare to celebrate the Ascension of the Lord, I invoke the peace and joy that come from the Risen Christ upon you and your families,” said Pope Francis, in his greeting to English-speaking listeners at the weekly General Audience. The Holy Father encouraged Christians to be generous witnesses of the Risen Christ, knowing that He is always with us to sustain us. He reminds us that Jesus left us the command to “Go and teach all nations…teaching them to observe all that [He] commanded” (Matt 26: 19 – 20). The Pope then turned his thoughts towards the young, the elderly, the sick and newlyweds while addressing the Italian-speaking faithful. Addressing the Spanish-speaking listeners, Pope Francis prayed that the Risen Jesus, with the power of His Holy Spirit, may make us “bearers of joy, and strengthen in us the hope and the certainty that love is stronger than death and that it always triumphs.” Centenary of St. John Paul II Pope Francis extended his heartfelt greetings to Polish-speaking listeners, as the Church continues to celebrate the 100thanniversary of the birth of Saint John Paul II. He noted that the Polish saint was “a pastor of great faith who loved to entrust the Church and all of humanity to God in prayer.” The Pope prayed that, like Saint John Paul II who chose “Totus Tuus” as his motto, we might turn to Our Lady in times of difficulty and ask for her intercession. Month of Mary Referring to May as the “Month of Mary”, the Holy Father encouraged us to pray the Rosary daily, in his address to the Portuguese-speaking faithful. He prayed that we might learn from Our Lady to have a contemplative gaze in our daily lives. God in creation As the Church continues to mark the Laudato Si’ Week from 16 to 24 May, Pope Francis told the German-speaking faithful that we recognize the greatness of God in the wonder of creation. “May joy in nature and praise of God help us to find fullness and inner peace,” prayed the Pope.

Mater Dei Prep is a private, Catholic preparatory school empowering

students for lifelong success by integrating faith and service into a

rigorous college preparatory curriculum. Prospective incoming and

transfer students are encouraged to apply today, we are still

    accepting online applications!

To apply visit our website at www.materdeiprep.org. If you have any

additional questions please contact Mrs. Christine O’Connor, Director of

    Admissions email at [email protected]

“And the king will say to them in reply, ‘Amen, I say to you, whatever you

did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.’ “ Matt 25:40

We’d like to offer a word of thanks to our faithful benefactors who have

continued to support our ministry during this pandemic. This is, and has

been a challenging time for all of us, but most especially for our

neighbors who struggle financially on a regular basis and/or who are now struggling due to the

loss of income as a result of the quarantine. We need the support of our parish family to help

those in need. Your donation, no matter the amount, helps to improve the lives of others,

something we are all called to do as Catholic Christians.

We hope you will prayerfully consider making a donation. Checks, made payable to St. Vincent

de Paul of St Mary’s, can be mailed to our attention at the parish office. If you’d prefer to make

a cash donation, and until we can gather for Mass in the church, the poor box has been moved

from the narthex to the entrance of the parish offices. Donations of non-perishable food, paper

goods, cleaning supplies or personal items can be placed in the bin located in the vestibule of the

    church.

We ask that you continue to support our ministry, both financially and in prayer. We in turn are praying for you, our generous benefactors. We thank you and God bless you.

  • Please Help!

Like so many families, Saint Mary, Mother of God Church is facing a

serious financial setback because of the Coronavirus pandemic. With no

public Masses, there are no collections, which means no income for weeks.

We depend on your sacrificial offerings in the weekly collections for: Saint

Mary School, parish programs and ministries, employee salaries and

benefits, Church mortgage, utilities and insurance, etc.

We need your help during this crisis. Please prayerfully consider continuing

your financial support by in one of the following ways:

    1. Electronic giving: Visit the parish webpage

at stmarychurchnj.org/give to make your donation.

    2. Go Fund Me Page (new): Contribute to “Forever St

    Mary” at Forever.stmarychurchnj.org

    3. Drop off at Parish Office: A secure white mail box is at the door of

the parish office where parishioners can “drop off” their church envelopes.

    4. Mail Donations: Saint Mary Church, 19 Cherry Tree Farm Road,

    Middletown, N.J. 07748

    THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

  • Dear Parishioners,

Parish Giving is the premier electronic on-line giving and payment system for church

communities throughout the nation. Parish Giving is a safe, secure and easy way to make on-line

parish and church related donations and payments.

One major advantage of electronic giving is that it normalizes offertory collection in order to

properly budget for our parish. If you are on vacation, work or visiting family and friends and

are not able to worship with our parish community on Sunday, Parish Giving enables you to

continue the needed financially support for our mission and ministry here at Saint Mary’s.

Because of this stability in offertory collections, parishes who encourage parishioners to use

electronic giving see a 25% increase in weekly collections. We certainly need that at Saint

    Mary’s.

So I would like to encourage you to sign up for Parish Giving. To do so, please visit our webpage

at www.stmarychurchnj.org and click the “Parish Giving” button on the top right of the page.

This will bring you to the Parish Giving page for Saint Mary’s. It is very easy to sign up. If you

have any questions about Parish Giving, please feel free to call the parish office.

Thank you for your consideration and thank you for all your financial support to our parish

community of Saint Mary’s. As I keep saying, “we are blessed!”

    In Jesus and Mary,

    Father Jeff Kegley

    Pastor

State of Our Parish - Adopting a Pew Our weekly collections are not sufficient to cover expenses nor were they used to pay for completed repairs. We are

offering parishioners an opportunity to ADOPT a PEW to pay for these extraordinary repairs. The pew will be in either

Mary, Mother of God Church or in the Chapel. You will have the option of choosing the pew and its location. The cost is

$1,000. You may pay by installments and upon completion of the payment plan, the plate will be mounted on both ends of

the pew. Thank you for your generosity. God Bless You, Hank Pekarsky - Business Manager

Please consider this opportunity to honor your loved ones while preserving the beauty of our Parish.
