    THE STRUCTURE

The structure of the wall is di,ided into three sections- The outer section was ade out of large stones at the botto

which kee" the whole structure r & u" right and steady. And there is the iddle section s all rocks and stones.

THE REASON WHY THE MIDDLE SECTION IS MADEUP OF SMALL ROCKS AND STONES INSTEAD OF

CONCRETE. A few of these are - /ee"ing the traditional way of building it. The s all rocks and stones in the iddle as well

those larger ones on the outside "ro,ide a naturalltration syste & the water "asses through the wall

and the soil says on the other side in the eld. It also ser,es as a ho e and shelter for insects and

creatures in the area. And it is a way that the far er could reuse the

stones and rocks found in the soil.

The far er or the "erson building the wall doesn0t need only the skill on howto "lace and t the stones and rocks in "lace but he needs to know thei "ortant rules that the higher the wall gets the narrower the width of thewall and the s aller the rocks and stones.

As if they are aking a co "le1 "u22le.

3n the o""osite side at the botto the stones are larger& this is so that theycould ser,e as a good "edi ent.

WHY ARE THE WALLS SOME TIMESCURVED?

If the wall gets to a certin height& the builder of it would not continue buildingit in a straight line but start gi,ing it turns and cur,es in its sha"e$"referably+. This is a "recaution& if a "art of the wall falls o,er it won0ttu ble down the rest as shown in gure two and gure three.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE DRY STONE WALL AND THE MALTESE STONE HUT

The di6erence is that the !altese stone hut is ore water tight due to thes all rocks and stones in the iddle are ore co "act and there for it kee"s

    ore water out.

As in the sha"e it is ,ery basic sha"e which isn0t co "le1 and two of theha,e a uni9ue feature of blending in to the s"ace around it.

In the elder days these eyes belie,ed that they re"resent and o6ered"rotection against e,il s"irits and safe tra,els while at sea to the sher an.

These eyes originated fro the Egy"tian beliefs called the Eye of 3siris orthe Eye of =orus.

    THE MALTESE CART (KARRETTUN)

The !altese cart was a ,ery old ethod of trans"ortation to carry largeob#ects& goods and large stones for building walls and old houses.

A cart was all hand ade and it took ti e and good crafts anshi" to build

one. It was ade fro etal and strong hard wood such as beech $fagu+ and ash

$fra11nu+ so the whole cart was ,ery hea,y.

It had two wooden wheels at the back& two long hori2ontal stri"s.

Between the de"ending on the si2e of the cart were connected ,ertical

stri"s and at the far end there were two ore stri"s crossing each otherwhich were at a higher le,el than the ,ertical stri"s so the ob#ects on thewould not roll o,er when they would be on a down wards "osition.

  • 7/25/2019 luzzu 123

The wheel was usually ade fro si1 too ,e stri"s that were connected to acircular wooden fra e fro one side and a hub $buttun+ in the center.

8irst they would bend a "iece of etal.

Then they would heat u" the etal and "ut it around the wooden circle andbecause they always ade the etal s aller than the fra e& when the etalcools down it would shrink back in si2e and tighten u" with the fra e and this

hel"ed to ake the whole wheel stronger.

The si2e of the cart de"ended on what it wasgoing to be used for. 7o e of these s all carts were "ainted blue&green or orange and were decorated with war"s$tber l+ design as they were used to sell goodsback then in the streets.
