We are set to discover through the wonderful words of Purificación Fernández about the marble atelier “Pedro Lifante Mármoles” and how their craftmanship transform stones into works of art. A plethora of unique works that reflect the love and passion to “shape the Stone”, bringing to life the dreams of their customers through their designs.

We will also find out how this area of the Mediterranean, more specif-ically Barinas-Abanilla, with its typically Mediterranean spots, a mixture of rugged landscape and green oasis, has inspired them in their works for an explosion of their creativity.

Vamos a descubrir a través de las maravillosas palabras de Purificación Fer-nández, del atelier del mármol “Pedro Lifante Mármoles”, cómo su trabajo de artesanos de la Piedra termina convertido en obra de arte; una cascada de trabajos únicos en los que se refleja el amor y la pasión para “moldear La Piedra”, dándole vida a los sueños de sus clientes a través de sus diseños. También desvelamos cómo le ha inspirado en sus obras esta zona del Medi-terráneo, y más concretamente Barinas-Abanilla, con sus parajes tan típica-mente mediterráneos, mezcla de paisaje agreste con oasis verdes, para una explosión de su creatividad.

Purificación Fernández receives INMURCIA in their marble atelier and reveals their pas-sion for handcrafted work with stone.

Mármoles Pedro Lifante is a dream come true for its found-ers Pedro Lifante and Purificación Fernández, with a twin-kle in their eyes bringing together their personal and pro-fessional love story.This year marks 34 years since we decided to start living together. Since that moment, our family life became in-tertwined with our dream of having our own family and artisan business dedicated to what we liked most: creating art with natural stone. Hailing from a family of stonema-sons, we knew that we wanted to work with natural stone.

However, we wanted to be innovative in terms of finishes, combinations, textures, designs, developing bespoke and exclusive projects for our customers, of excellent quality.

As well as the actual work with the stone, we specialise in sourcing the most exclusive and peculiar stones that na-ture can offer us throughout the planet, creating with them unique and unrepeatable works.




We learn from each stone and their pictorial and meta-morphic characteristics from the different places of origin with. We train ourselves technically so that we can offer our clients a comprehensive consulting service, creating a diffe-rent way of envisioning the world of natural stone. In this respect, we propose including new components capable of developing aspects such as durability, biodegradability, thermal insulation or resource optimisation.

We always strive for the satisfaction of our clients, creat-ing exclusive and concept projects, taking as reference their ideas and going for innovation in finishes.

Our job has become our way of life; we love what we do, we embrace it every day, and we like to share that enthusiasm with each of our customers who trust us.

This journey was filled with tears but also with joy; the scars were necessary to temper us and help others with our learnings.

It’s fair to say that L´Atelier del Mármol makes other peo-ple’s dreams come true. You only need to notice the timeless beauty of its works. Just as in haute couture, you manage to make people yearn for its iconic designs.We are passionate about natural stone. We love discovering the beauty offered by nature that is embodied in the stone. When you look at a marble, granite or quartzite slab you can take in the richness of the interwoven colours, the movement of its veins, the inlay of its fossils. It all tells us about the centu-ries-old history embodied in the rocks. That’s why every stone is unique, and every project is different.

When we decide to build a new home or improve it to highlight areas with peculiar stones thanks to their colour or morphology, we are making an investment because that particular stone we have chosen will never be found again.

During these years, we have registered our own brands. This allows us to identify the wide colour range of natural stone throughout the length and breadth of the planet. To this day, we continue to be amazed by what nature offers us. We continue learning and discovering new shapes; and we do all this with full commitment to environmental protection.

Our priority is the satisfaction of each customer, and each of them is unique, with different tastes and different approaches. Thus, each new project becomes a challenge both for us creating and transforming using stone as raw material, and the customer whose opinion will be part of that new creation.

Our knowledge, know-how and knowing how to be is available to each of our customers, because every new cus-tomer is a friend and every new job is a challenge.

Pedro Lifante breathes its essence in a peaceful and quiet environment (Abanilla) and close to nature, so as not to lose that invisible thread between nature and creativity.We feel very privileged to live in the countryside, in Bari-nas, a hamlet of Abanilla (Murcia) because there we enjoy a range of contrasts. Located in Comarca Oriental, next to the municipality of Fortuna, it is famous for its Balneario Leana, one of the oldest in Spain, and the Sierra de la Pila regional park. We border the province of Alicante. This al-lows us to have a varied mix of culture, gastronomy, geogra-phy, flora and fauna.

We enjoy a microclimate despite being a semi-arid re-gion, with mild winters and hot and warm summers. We are surrounded by natural protected areas, such as the Chica-mo river, natural water springs, such as La Fuente del Algar-robo, together with a quiet quality of life and boasting all services despite being inland. We are close to the sea, both in Murcia and Alicante. We are also close to Elche airport and the Ave train station in Villena, which allows us to be in two hours in Madrid and return on the same day.

Let’s not forget that our region is also a mining area with stone quarries, such as the Marfil Zafra quarries in the area of Abanilla, in front of the Marfil Cotto quarry, which be-longs to the province of Alicante, specifically Pinoso, just a few kilometres from us.

We can’t resist asking you to tell us about the satisfaction of craftsmanship, making something “with your hands” and creating a final product without intermediaries. It is a direct link between customer and artisan. That magic. Very much like when the artist was once commissioned a work and the customer even had to wait.It’s important to us getting to know the person who con-tracts our services, because the customer has to feel identi-fied with what they want to see later at home.

From my side, when a customer comes to us, I show them the actual size of stone slabs as they come out of the block cutter. I like them to touch the slab and see the colour rich-ness of the stone, of all possible varieties, until they find the one that meets their needs. We advise them on the stone’s characteristics so that their end use is suitable.

Once the client chooses the stone, we move on to our workshop where my husband, Pedro Lifante, my son —Pe-dro Lifante as well— and our team, make the design that I have previously made with the customer happen. There we work on the finishes, the finishing touches and alternation of contrasts, thus enhancing the beauty of the stone.

When the stone is intended for plating or flooring, we advise customers technically, whether they are private or




professionals from the architecture or construction indus-try, to handle and apply the products properly in order to avoid breakage or falling of the material once installed.

Well, since craftsmanship invariably derives from art, I am curious to know if on any occasion you have ever worked on the restoration of some work of art, have been asked for some specific material for it, or have participated in some way.We’ve worked on natural stone restoration on many occa-sions. When customers contact us to see what we can do with decorations or elements made of natural stone that have been damaged due to wear and tear, we try to restore it by enhancing the passage of time on the stone and recover it. If it cannot be recovered because is partly destroyed, then I like to enhance that stone without imitating the missing part with something similar —even if it is the same type, as the tone and movement of the vein changes— but altering it with a completely different type, or with other fine materials such as metal, glass, wood, etc. and make that restoration a unique work of contrasts.

Let’s not forget that the stone is timeless, so it never goes out of style, no matter the colour, you only have to know how to see the beauty it hides and highlight it in its setting.




You are a company with global reach, but of purely local im-plementation. Where do you source your raw materials from? Are they from here or imported? Also, do you resort to a spe-cific brand or material with “unique” characteristics?We are certainly a family and local artisan business, but with-out borders when it comes to work and get where the client needs us.

The materials we use are from different sources, both do-mestic and imported. We seek the colour richness of nature embodied in the natural stone wherever it is.

Each variety of natural stone is unique and unrepeatable and tells us its history, where it came from, what happened to it to have that peculiar shape. Its rich colour, its veined movement and its fossil features identifies and distinguishes it from other varieties throughout the planet.

This diversity of colour makes each work unique and tailored to each of our customers, thus managing to do be-spoke work.

As for brands, we do not allow ourselves to be dragged by the brand itself, but by the quality of the material, which is what in the end will bring the stone to life throughout time and offer guarantees to the customer.

Each piece of work requires a certain stone with the spe-cific characteristics for its right use.

However, even though speaking of marble is to speak of something quasi-eternal and with few variations, Pedro Li-fante has advanced in agreements to be at the forefront of customer’s new wishes without neglecting its handmade essence.We have always strived to be at the forefront and have updat-ed knowledge in everything related to natural and sintered stone.

However, it’s not just about having good and novel ma-chinery that does everything, it’s also about having ingenuity, being creative, innovating and making art out of your work. That is our constant, creating beauty and art with the stone.




This desire to create and doing something different has led us to do very interesting works with José Díaz in restaurants with Michelin Stars, and with twice Michelin starred chef Pablo González Conejero. We created the first R&D+I gastronomic laboratory in Cabaña Buenavista, and we are now installing the new kitchen of Magoga Restau-rant, Michelin Star 2020, here in Murcia. We are adapting to the essence of these sophisticated food artists while at the same time surrounding their setting with evolved elements of natural stone, such as sintered stone.

In that same line of evolving, creating and doing some-thing different, we crossed paths with Memoory, a differ-ent way of doing emotional architecture. A few months ago, we presented on our website their collection of 12 different ways of capturing the essence of our loved ones. An excellent project, despite the difficult times that we are going through.

We continued along this path of collaboration, as a com-pany specialised in stone and with an interest in the world of architecture, engineering and interior design in particu-lar. We want to learn more and become better to be able to give the best to our customers. We are consultants in con-struction projects thanks to our stone knowledge and help architects and multi-disciplinary engineers specialised in Bim and Passivhaus, such as the Deneb group of architects and engineers.

Finally, please tell us about a pending dream that you would like to fulfil.There’s the recurring topic that no one is a prophet in their own land; we are gradually achieving it with much effort, persistence and perseverance.

As a lover of natural stone, architecture and art in general, I would like to continue collaborating and joining forces with the team of professionals around me from the world of archi-tecture and engineering to carry out great design works using the colour richness of nature embodied in the natural stone, while being avant-garde and sophisticated in the Bim and Passivhaus methodology, so necessary in our Murcia climate.

This quality in this type of construction is environmentally friendly; to us, these principles rest on the fundamental pillars of sustainable development and business professional ethics.

Greek poet and philosopher Empedocles of Akragas posited in the 5th century BC: “water, earth, air and fire are the four roots that sustain the change, balance and perma-nence of beings in the world”.

This land of ours, the Region of Murcia, remains a source of inspiration for us.

miliar se entrelazó con nuestro sueño de tener nuestro propio negocio fami-liar y artesano dedicado a lo que más nos gustaba: crear arte con la piedra natural. Descendientes de canteros lo teníamos muy claro, trabajar la piedra natural, pero buscando a través de ella innovar en acabados, combinaciones, texturas, diseños; desarrollando traba-

jos a medida y exclusivos para nuestros clientes; y todo ello sobre unos cimien-tos de excelente calidad.

Alternando el trabajo de la piedra en sí, nos especializamos en buscar las piedras más exclusivas y peculiares que nos pudiera ofrecer la naturaleza a lo largo y ancho del planeta, creando con ellas trabajos únicos e irrepetibles.




Aprendimos de cada una de ellas des-de los distintos lugares de procedencia con sus características pictóricas y meta-mórficas. Nos formamos técnicamente para así poder ofrecer a nuestros clien-tes un servicio de asesoramiento inte-gral, marcando una forma diferente de visualizar el mundo de la piedra natural. En este sentido proponemos la inclu-sión de nuevos componentes capaces de desarrollar aspectos como la durabi-lidad, biodegradabilidad, aislamiento térmico u optimización de recursos.

Nuestra constante, la satisfacción de cada uno de nuestros clientes, creando proyectos exclusivos y de di-seño, tomando como referencia sus inquietudes y apostando por la inno-vación en acabados.

Hemos hecho de nuestro trabajo una forma de vivir, nos encanta lo que hacemos, lo vivimos cada día, y ese en-tusiasmo nos gusta compartirlo con cada uno de nuestros clientes.

Todo este camino ha estado lleno de lágrimas, pero también de ale-grías, cicatrices tan necesarias para curtirnos y ayudar a los demás en nuestro aprendizaje.

Pero sin duda, decir que L´atelier del mármol hace realidad los sueños de otras personas no es más que constatar la be-lleza atemporal de sus obras y, como la alta costura, ellos consiguen hacer que se suspire por sus diseños icónicos.Somos unos románticos de la piedra na-tural, nos encanta descubrir la belleza que nos ofrece la naturaleza plasmada




en la piedra. Cuando miras una tabla de mármol, granito o cuarcita y sigues en ella la riqueza cromática de los distin-tos colores que aparecen entrelazados, el movimiento de sus vetas, la incrusta-ción de sus fósiles, todo ello nos habla de su historia, plasmada durante siglos en las rocas. Por ello cada piedra es úni-ca y cada proyecto diferente.

Cuando decidimos construir un nuevo hogar o hacer una reforma en donde queremos resaltar zonas con piedras peculiares y características, por su color o morfología, estamos ha-ciendo una inversión porque esa pie-dra que hemos elegido en concreto no se volverá a repetir.

En estos años de andadura, hemos registrado nuestras propias marcas que nos permite identificar la amplia gama cromática de piedra natural, a lo largo y ancho del planeta, y que a fe-cha de hoy nos seguimos sorprendien-do de lo que nos ofrece la naturaleza; seguimos aprendiendo y descubrien-do nuevas formas; y todo ello sobre un amplio compromiso con el respeto al medio ambiente.

Teniendo en cuenta que lo más im-portante es la satisfacción de cada uno de nuestros clientes y que cada cliente es único con gustos distintos y enfoques diferentes, cada nuevo proyecto es un reto de superación, por un lado, para nosotros como creadores y transforma-dores con la piedra como materia pri-ma, y por otro lado también lo es para el cliente a nuestro lado cuya opinión formará parte de esa nueva creación.

Nuestro saber, saber hacer y saber ser está a disposición de cada uno de nuestros clientes, porque cada nuevo cliente es un amigo y cada nuevo tra-bajo es un desafío.

Pedro Lifante respira su esencia en un entorno de paz y silencio (Abanilla) y en pleno contacto con la naturaleza para no perder ese hilo invisible que acerca la naturaleza a la creatividad.Nos sentimos muy privilegiados de vivir en el campo y en Barinas en particular, pedanía de Abanilla (Murcia), pues des-de ahí disfrutamos de un radio de con-trastes. Situados en la Comarca Orien-tal, junto al municipio de Fortuna, en el

que destaca el Balneario Leana, uno de los más antiguos de España, o la Sierra de la Pila. Lindamos con la provincia de Alicante, lo que nos permite tener un entorno dispar de cultura, gastronomía, geografía, fauna y flora.

Disfrutamos de un micro clima, a pe-sar de ser semi árido: inviernos suaves y veranos calurosos. Estamos rodeados de enclaves naturales con zonas prote-gidas, como el Río Chicamo, manan-tiales de agua natural, como La Fuente del Algarrobo, mezclado con una ca-lidad de vida tranquila y con todos los servicios, a pesar de estar en el interior. Estamos cerca del mar, tanto de la par-te de Murcia como de Alicante; del ae-ropuerto de Elche o del Ave en Villena, que nos permite estar en dos horas en Madrid y volver el mismo día.

Sin olvidar que nuestra tierra es también zona minera de canteras de piedra, como las canteras de Marfil Zafra, en la zona de Abanilla, frente a la cantera de Marfil Cotto, que ya pertenece a la provincia de Alicante, concretamente a Pinoso, a escasos ki-lómetros de nosotros.




No nos resistimos a que nos cuentes la satisfacción del artesano, la de fa-bricar algo “con tus manos”. Un pro-ducto final, sin intermediarios, hilo directo entre cliente y fabricante. Esa magia. Muy como cuando antaño se encargaba un trabajo al artista y hasta había que esperar.Para nosotros es importante conocer a la persona a la que le vamos hacer un trabajo, pues el cliente se tiene que sentir identificado con lo que quiere ver luego en su casa.

Cuando un cliente viene a noso-tros, en la parte que me toca a mí, me gusta que vea las tablas de piedra a ta-maño natural, tal cual salen del corta bloques, que las toque y vea la rique-za cromática de la piedra, de todas las variedades posibles hasta encontrar la que se identifica con sus necesidades. Asesorándole de sus características para que su uso final sea el apropiado.

Una vez elegida la piedra por el cliente pasamos a la elaboración del trabajo en nuestro taller, donde mi marido, Pedro Lifante, mi hijo, tam-bién Pedro Lifante, y el equipo que nos rodea hacemos realidad el diseño

que previamente he realizado con el cliente, dando los acabados, las termi-naciones y alternancias de contrastes, realzando así la belleza de la piedra.

Cuando la piedra va destinada a aplacados o solados, asesoramos téc-nicamente a los clientes, sean particu-lares o profesionales del mundo de la arquitectura o construcción, para que se lleve a cabo una correcta manipula-ción y aplicabilidad para evitar así ro-turas o descolgamientos del material una vez instalado.

Y bueno ya que invariablemente el trabajo artesano deriva del arte, sien-to curiosidad por saber si en alguna ocasión habéis trabajado en la restau-ración de alguna obra de arte u os han pedido algún tipo de material para ello, o participado de alguna manera.Restaurar trabajos de piedra natural lo hemos hecho muchas veces. Cuan-do nos llaman clientes para ver qué podemos hacer con decoraciones o elementos realizados en piedra natu-ral deteriorados o rotos por el uso o el paso del tiempo, nos gusta e inten-tamos recuperar lo que nos encontra-

mos realzando el paso del tiempo so-bre piedra y recuperarla por el uso o el olvido. Y allí donde no se puede re-cuperar, porque hay alguna parte des-truida, ahí es donde me gusta realzar esa piedra que me he encontrado no intentando imitar lo que falta con algo parecido aunque sea la misma varie-dad, ya que el tono y el movimiento de la veta cambia, sino alternándola con otra variedad de piedra completamen-te diferente o con otro material noble, como puede ser el metal, el cristal, la madera, etcétera y hacer de esa restau-ración una obra única de contrastes.

No hay que olvidar que la piedra es atemporal por lo que nunca se pasa de moda, no importa el color, solo hay que saber ver la belleza que esconde y resaltarla en el entorno donde se en-cuentre.

Vosotros sois una empresa con al-cance global, pero de implantación netamente local. ¿De dónde obtenéis vuestras sus materias primas? ¿son de aquí o importadas? ¿recurrís a mate-rial de marca concreta o característi-cas únicas?




Es cierto, somos una empresa artesana familiar y local, pero sin fronteras a la hora de trabajar y de llegar adonde el cliente nos necesita.

Los materiales que utilizamos son de diversa procedencia, nacionales y de importación. Buscamos la riqueza cromática de la naturaleza plasmada en la piedra natural allí donde esté.

Cada variedad de la piedra natural es única e irrepetible, y nos cuenta su historia, de dónde procede, qué le ocu-rrió para tener esa forma peculiar, con su riqueza cromática, su movimiento veteado y sus características fósiles que la identifican y distinguen de cada una de las diferentes variedades que en-contramos a largo del planeta.

Esa diversidad cromática hace que cada trabajo sea único, a la medida de cada uno de nuestros clientes, consi-guiendo así hacer trabajos personali-zados.

Por lo que me preguntas de la mar-ca, no nos dejamos arrastrar por la mar-ca en sí, sino por la calidad del material, que es lo que al final va a dar vida en el tiempo a la piedra y garantía al cliente. Cada obra o trabajo requiere una pie-dra determinada con las características concretas para su uso correcto.

Sin embargo, aunque hablar de már-mol es hablar de algo cuasi eterno y con pocas variaciones, Pedro Lifante ha avanzado en acuerdos para estar a la vanguardia de los nuevos deseos de su cliente sin dejar su esencia artesanal

Para nosotros siempre ha sido una constante estar a la última en vanguar-dia y conocimientos en todo lo que a la piedra natural o sinterizada acontece.

Pero no se trata solo de tener bue-na y novedosa maquinaria que lo haga todo, también se trata de tener inge-nio, de ser creativo, de innovar y hacer arte de tu trabajo. Esa es nuestra cons-tante, crear belleza y arte con la piedra.

Ese deseo de crear, de hacer algo diferente, nos ha llevado a hacer tra-bajos muy interesantes de la mano José Díaz en restaurantes con estrellas Michelin, como con Pablo González Conejero, dos veces estrella Michelin, realizando el primer laboratorio gas-tronómico I+D+I en la Cabaña Buena-vista, y ahora instalando la nueva co-cina del restaurante Magoga, estrella Michelin 2020, aquí en nuestra tierra murciana. Nos adaptamos a la esencia de estos sofisticados artistas de la gas-tronomía y, al mismo tiempo, envolve-mos su entorno con elementos evolu-cionados de la piedra natural, como es la piedra sinterizada.

En esa línea de evolucionar, de crear y hacer algo diferente, cruza-mos nuestro camino con Memoory, otra manera diferente de hacer ar-quitectura emocional. Hace unos me-ses presentábamos en nuestra web su colección de 12 formas diferentes de plasmar la esencia de nuestros seres queridos. Una excelente labor, a pesar de los momentos tan difíciles que nos ha tocado vivir.

Siguiendo por esa senda de la cola-boración, como empresa especializa-da en la piedra en general y con inquie-tudes en el mundo de la arquitectura, la ingeniería y el interiorismo en par-ticular, por ese querer saber más y me-jor para poder dar lo mejor a nuestros clientes, nos movemos en proyectos de construcción, asesorando desde nuestro conocimiento de la piedra a ar-quitectos e ingenieros multidisciplina-res especializados en Bim y Passivhaus, como son el grupo de arquitectos e in-genieros Deneb

Para terminar, un sueño pendiente que os gustaría realizarSiempre se tira del tópico recurrente que nadie es profeta en su tierra. No-sotros lo vamos conseguido poco a poco con mucho esfuerzo, constancia y perseverancia.

Como romántica de la piedra natu-ral, de la arquitectura y el arte en ge-neral, me gustaría seguir colaborando y sumando con el equipo de profesio-nales que me rodean del mundo de la arquitectura e ingeniería para llevar a cabo grandes obras de diseño, envol-viéndolas con la riqueza cromática de la naturaleza plasmada en la piedra na-tural, al mismo tiempo que vanguar-distas y sofisticados en metodología Bim y Passivhaus, tan necesario esto último por nuestro clima murciano.

Con esta calidad en este tipo de construcción el respeto al medio am-biente estaría garantizado, principios para nosotros sobre los que se asien-tan los pilares fundamentales del desa-rrollo sostenible y la ética profesional empresarial.

Empédocles de Agrigento, poeta y filósofo griego, postuló en el siglo V an-tes de Cristo: “El agua, la tierra, el aire y el fuego son las cuatro raíces que sostie-nen el cambio, el equilibrio y la perma-nencia de los seres en el mundo”.

Esta tierra nuestra, la Región de Murcia, sigue siendo fuente de ins-piración para nosotros. Todo está en amarla.
