Walloon Agricultural Research Centre (CRA-W) Founded in 1872, CRA-W is a scientific establishment
(public-interest organisation) under the Regional Government of Wallonia in Belgium.
CRA-W employs over 450 people, most of them are scientists including doctors in agricultural science, engineers or graduates.
Spread over three sites (Gembloux, Libramont and Mussy-la-Ville), the Centre occupies some 300 hectares of offices, laboratories, greenhouses, orchards and experimental fields

Walloon Agricultural Research Centre (CRA-W)Areas of expertise: a multidisciplinary approach
The various Departments of CRA-W offer complementary areas of expertise and together form a multidisciplinary research institution covering the main fields of interest in agriculture, horticulture and forestry as well as the food processing industries and environmental sciences.From biotechnology to plant and animal products, plant breeding and crop protection, agricultural engineering or product quality, all the Departments work in coordination to optimize products in terms of both quantity and quality by reducing inputs (creating tolerant varieties, precision farming, integrated management of fertilization and phytosanitary protection, etc.) or by creating added value or differentiated quality products, while taking society’s expectations into account.

Development of integrated pest management Study of the agricultural and ecotoxicological properties of agricultural pesticides
(according to GEP and GLP) Study, monitoring and management of pesticide resistance Development of methods for checking pesticides application quality Limiting the toxicological adverse effects of plant protection products on people,
animals and the environment Study of the physico-chemical properties of plant protection products and biocides and
their fate in crops, agricultural products and environment(according to GLP or ISO 17025)
Development and validation of analytical methods for active ingredients, impurities, residues and metabolites (according to GLP)

Local organiserIn collaboration with the Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (FASFC) FASFC is a federal executive agency
with authority over the whole Belgian territory.
It lays down the operational standards applicable to businesses and integrates all official control and inspection services for the food chain.In accordance with the Federal law of 4 February 2000, the FASFC is responsible for laying down, implementing and enforcing measures related to the analysis and the management of risks that may affect the health of consumers.
FASFC employs over 1100 people, among them 120 people working in 5ISO 17025 accredited laboratories and 900 people for samplings and inspections.
FASFC performers the quality control of pesticides used in Belgium (formulations and residues).
