Gli “objets à réaction poétique” sono, come diceva Le Corbusier,

quelli dal forte potere evocativo. Oggetti di cui amava

circondarsi, poiché capaci di evocare memorie e scatenare

fantasie. Nell’anno di celebrazione dell’anniversario dei 50 anni

della collezione LC, le nuove proposte Cassina 2015 prendono

vita sulla base di questa suggestione.

Una nuova collezione che mette a confronto il rivoluzionario

pensiero industriale di Marco Zanuso con il rigore sofisticato

di Piero Lissoni, la progettualità sognante di Jaime Hayon con

quella filosofica di Mario Bellini che, nella realizzazione della

poltrona Cab Lounge, sa unire l’eleganza sartoriale della forma

con il comfort e l’ergonomia della struttura. Un nuovo gruppo

di prodotti dalle evidenti qualità plastiche e materiche espresse

nelle forme inconsuete dei modelli di Charlotte Perriand

e Franco Albini e nelle forme sinuose della sedia di Michele

De Lucchi. Una collezione con un gioco di rimandi tra passato,

presente e futuro che alimenta il dialogo culturale e proietta

Cassina in una dimensione di sviluppo del suo codice genetico,

per ribadire la necessità progettuale e produttiva di costruire

forme capaci di emozionare. Come è nell’attitudine Cassina.

The “objets à réaction poétique”

are, as Le Corbusier said, those

with a strong evocative power,

and thanks to their ability to

evoke memories and incite

fantasies, it was with these

objects that the designer liked

to surround himself.

Cassina’s offerings for 2015,

the year in which the LC

collection celebrates its 50th

anniversary, are based on this

idea. A new collection which

contrasts Marco Zanuso’s

revolutionary industrial ideas with

Piero Lissoni’s sophisticated

precision, Jaime Hayon’s dreamy

designs with Mario Bellini’s

philosophy which, in the creation

of the Cab Lounge armchair,

combines the sartorial elegance

of the shape with the comfort and

ergonomics of the structure.

A new range of products with

plastic and material qualities

expressed in the unusual shapes

of pieces by Charlotte Perriand

and Franco Albini and in the

sinuous shapes of the chair

by Michele De Lucchi. A collection

that cross-references the past,

present and future, fuelling

Cassina’s cultural dialogue and

the development of its genetic

code, to reiterate the need so

inherent to design and production

to create shapes capable of

arousing emotions. This need

is what inspires Cassina.

schen und durch das Material

geprägten Merkmalen, die in den

außergewöhnlichen Formen der

Modelle von Charlotte Perriand

und Franco Albini sowie in den ge-

schwungenen Formen des Stuhls

von Michele De Lucchi zum Aus-

druck gelangen. Eine Kollektion,

die sich in einem Spiel zwischen

Vergangenheit, Gegenwart und

Zukunft entwickelt, den Dialog

dernis der Gestaltung und Pro-

Dal 1965 la Cassina riedita le quattro sedute di Le Corbusier, Pierre

Jeanneret, Charlotte Perriand – LC1, LC2, LC3, LC4 – considerate oggi

come classici del design internazionale.

Il 2015 è quindi un anniversario importante: 50 anni dall’inizio dell’unica

produzione autorizzata a livello mondiale della collezione LC, che negli anni

è stata implementata arrivando a comprendere sia i mobili disegnati dai

tre co-autori che i mobili disegnati dal solo Le Corbusier, ma anche 50

anni dalla scomparsa di Le Corbusier, avvenuta solo due mesi prima della

presentazione ufficiale. 50 anni fa Cassina industrializzando i modelli icona

del Moderno ha così partecipato in modo consistente alla diffusione

della loro conoscenza.

Perseverando nell’intento di divulgazione e conoscenza dell’autore

e per ricordare l’importanza universale dell’opera di uno dei più influenti

personaggi della storia dell’architettura, Cassina ha progettato per il Salone

del Mobile 2015 una scenografia di sfondo dei nuovi modelli di quest’anno

ispirata alle architetture di questo maestro del Movimento Moderno.

Una scenografia che diverrà un’esposizione itinerante per presentare

i modelli della collezione LC sullo sfondo di alcuni dettagli di alcune

sue architetture della sua maturità artistica: la Chapelle de Notre Dame

du Haut a Ronchamp, le Unité d’Habitation di Marsiglia, Firminy e il convento

di Sainte-Marie de la Tourette in Francia, l’Unité d’Habitation a Berlino

e Villa Shodhan ad Ahmedabad in India.

Architetture in cemento armato plasmate secondo un brutalismo

romantico che non ha mai rinunciato all’idealismo e all’armonia delle forme

pur nella volontà di conservare il razionalismo e la funzionalità delle opere.

Un omaggio all’architetto per sottolineare la portata rivoluzionaria dell’utilizzo

delle strutture in cemento armato in architettura in parallelo all’innovazione

introdotta dai tre co-autori con le proposte degli arredi metallici.

Un modo per osservare con occhi nuovi questi modelli icona del design,

attraverso l’evoluzione della poetica del Maestro espressa nella seconda

parte della sua vita e tesa a fare uso di materiali naturali e forme organiche.

Per riflettere sulle nuove proposte eco-friendly e di ritrovamento delle

origini attuata da Cassina sui modelli della collezione, con nuovi materiali

certificati e nuovi colori delle strutture secondo una linea continua di ricerca

e innovazione.

Since 1965 Cassina has re-edited the four chairs by

Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, Charlotte Perriand –

LC1, LC2, LC3, LC4 – today considered classics

of international design.

2015 is therefore an important anniversary:

not only 50 years since the beginning of the unique

production authorised anywhere in the world of the

LC collection, over the years expanded to include

both furniture designed by the three co-authors and

also pieces designed only by Le Corbusier, but also

50 years since the death of Le Corbusier, who died

just two months before the official presentation.

50 years ago, Cassina industrialised the icon models

of the Modern Movement, making an enormous

contribution in the spreading of their fame.

Pursuing its intention to diffuse awareness and

knowledge about the designer and to remember

the universal importance of work by one of the most

influential characters in the history of architecture,

for the 2015 Milan Furniture Fair, Cassina has

designed a backdrop featuring models from

its collection, inspired by the architecture of this

master of the Modern Movement.

A stand that will become a travelling exhibition

presenting models from the LC collection against

a backdrop of details from some of his architecture

during his mature artistic period: the Chapelle de

Notre Dame du Haut in Ronchamp, the Unité

d’Habitation in Marseille, Firminy and the convent

of Sainte-Marie de la Tourette in France, the Unité

d’Habitation in Berlin and Villa Shodhan in

Ahmedabad in India.

Architecture in steel-reinforced concrete sculpted

with a romantic brutalism that has never neglected

idealism and harmonious forms despite a desire

to preserve a rational, functional aspect.

A tribute to the architect that highlights the

revolutionary scope of the use of buildings in steel-

reinforced concrete in architecture in parallel with

the innovation introduced by the three co-designers

with their ideas for metal furnishings.

A look at these icon design pieces through new

eyes, through the evolution of the poetry of the

Maestro, expressed during the second half

of his life and leaning towards a use of natural

materials and organic shapes.

For reflection on new eco-friendly proposals

that rediscover the origins applied by Cassina

to the models in the collection, with new certified

materials and new colours for the structures,

following a continual line of research and innovation.

Seit 1965 legt Cassina die vier Stühle von Le

Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret und Charlotte Perriand -

LC1, LC2, LC3 und LC4 -, die heutzutage als

Klassiker des internationalen Designs gelten,

neu auf.

2015 ist also ein wichtiges Gedenkjahr: Vor 50

Jahren begann die weltweit einzige autorisierte

Produktion der Kollektion LC, die sich im Laufe

der Jahre immer weiter entwickelte und letztendlich

sowohl die in Zusammenarbeit mit den anderen

beiden Designern kreierten Modelle als auch jene

Entwürfe umfasste, für die Le Corbusier alleine

verantwortlich zeichnete. Zugleich wird aber auch

der 50. Todestag von Le Corbusier begangen,

der nur zwei Monate vor der offiziellen Präsentation

verstarb.

Vor 50 Jahren hat Cassina durch die

Industrialisierung der Kultmodelle der Moderne

beträchtlich zu deren Berühmtheit beigetragen.

Im kontinuierlichen Bestreben, den Bekanntheitsgrad

ihres Urhebers zu steigern und an die universelle

Bedeutung des Werks einer der einflussreichsten

Persönlichkeiten der Architekturgeschichte

zu erinnern, hat Cassina für die Mailänder Messe

2015 eine Hintergrundszenerie für die Modelle seiner

Kollektion geschaffen, die sich an den Architekturen

dieses Meisters der Moderne orientiert.

Eine Szenerie, die zu einer Wanderausstellung für

die Modelle der Kollektion LC vor dem Hintergrund

einiger Details von Bauten aus der Reifezeit des

Architekten wird: Kapelle Notre Dame du Haut in

Ronchamp, Unité d’Habitation in Marseille, Firminy

und Kloster Sainte-Marie de la Tourette in Frankreich,

Unité d’Habitation in Berlin und Villa Shodhan

in Ahmedabad in Indien.

Plastisch geformte Architekturen aus Beton im Stile

eines romantischen Brutalismus, der die Rationalität

und die Funktionalität der Werke zu bewahren

versucht und deshalb niemals auf den Idealismus

und die Harmonie der Formen verzichtet. Eine

Hommage an den Architekten, um die revolutionäre

Tragweite der Verwendung von Strukturen aus

Beton in der Architektur parallel zu der von den drei

Ko-Autoren eingeführten Innovation der Metallmöbel

zu unterstreichen.

Eine Möglichkeit, die Ikonen des Designs über die

Entwicklung der Poesie des Meisters in der zweiten

Hälfte seines Lebens, bei der alles auf natürliche

Materialien und organische Formen ausgerichtet

war, mit anderen Augen zu betrachten. Um über

die neuen, umweltfreundlichen Ausführungen

und die Rückkehr zu den Ursprüngen nachzudenken,

die Cassina bei den Modellen der Kollektion an

den Tag legt, wo neue zertifizierte Materialien und

neue Farben bei den Strukturen ein kontinuierliches

Streben nach Forschung und Innovation unter

Beweis stellen.

50 ans depuis la mort de Le Corbusier, survenue

Depuis 50 ans Cassina, en industrialisant les

modèles icônes du Moderne, a ainsi grandement

participé à diffuser leur connaissance.

Cassina, en persévérant dans la divulgation

et la connaissance de cet auteur, et pour rappeler

l’importance universelle de l’œuvre d’un des

personnages les plus influents de l’histoire

de l’architecture, a conçu, pour le Salon du Meuble

2015 à Milan, une scène de fond des modèles

de sa collection qui s’inspire des œuvres

d’architecture de ce maître du Mouvement Moderne.

Cette scénographie deviendra une exposition

itinérante pour présenter les modèles

de la collection LC sur la toile de fond de certains

détails de quelques-unes des architectures

qu’il créa au temps de sa maturité artistique:

la Chapelle de Notre-Dame du Haut à Ronchamp,

les Unités d’Habitation de Marseille, Firminy

et le couvent de Sainte-Marie de la Tourette

en France, l’Unité d’Habitation à Berlin et la

Ces architectures sont en ciment armé, formées

selon un brutalisme romantique qui n’a jamais

renoncé à l’idéalisme ni à l’harmonie des formes,

malgré l’intention de l’auteur de conserver le

rationalisme et la fonctionnalité de ses œuvres.

Un hommage à ce grand architecte, pour souligner

la portée révolutionnaire de l’emploi des structures

en ciment armé en architecture, parallèlement

à l’innovation introduite par les trois co-auteurs

avec leurs propositions de meubles en métal.

Une façon d’observer avec des yeux neufs ces

modèles icônes du design, à travers l’évolution

de la poétique du Maître, exprimée dans la deuxième

partie de sa vie, tendant à utiliser des matériaux

naturels et des formes organiques.

Pour réfléchir sur les nouvelles propositions

“eco-friendly” et de retour aux origines que Cassina

met en œuvre sur les modèles de cette collection,

avec de nouveaux matériaux certifiés et de nouvelles

couleurs pour les structures, suivant une ligne

constante de recherche et d’innovation.

Paulownia

Villa “Le Lac”, situata sulle rive del lago di Ginevra

in Svizzera, è il primo esempio di architettura

moderna disegnata da Le Corbusier e da suo

cugino Pierre Jeanneret.

Manifesto architettonico dove si trovano

già espresse le linee guida del programma che

l’architetto svilupperà negli anni ’20, fu completata

nel 1924 e divenne la casa per i suoi genitori.

Nel giardino della villa fu piantato un albero

di Paulownia, considerato da tanti architetti

come un “albero sacro” perché i suoi rami lunghi

dovevano creare il tetto della salle de verdure,

uno spazio vicino all’acqua delimitato da un

muro con una piccola finestra per incorniciare

perfettamente la vista mozzafiato del lago.

Questo albero fu tagliato nel 2013 poiché malato.

Cassina, informata di questo episodio da ECAL/

University of Art and Design Lausanne, pensò

di non disperdere questo elemento importante

del piano originario e di riutilizzare il suo legno

per un nuovo progetto che mantenesse un’affinità

con l’albero stesso. In occasione del 50°

anniversario della collezione LC, l’azienda ha

quindi affidato al designer Jaime Hayon il compito

di rendere omaggio al grande maestro creando

una serie di accessori inevitabilmente in edizione

limitata poiché realizzati con il legno di questo

unico albero di Paulownia.

Situated on the banks of Lake

Geneva in Switzerland, Villa

“Le Lac” is the first piece of

modern architecture designed

by Le Corbusier and his cousin

Pierre Jeanneret.

An architectural manifesto

expressing some of the guidelines

of the programme the architect

went on to develop in the

1920s, it was completed in 1924

and became the home of Le

Corbusier’s parents.

A Paulownia tree was planted

in the garden. Many architects

considered it a “sacred tree” with

its long branches creating the

roof of the “salle de verdure”,

an area by the water bordered

by a wall with a small window

perfectly framing the breathtaking

view of the lake.

On learning from the ECAL/

University of Art and Design

Lausanne that the tree had been

cut down in 2013 due to disease,

Cassina decided that this

important element of the original

design should not be lost, so it

reused the wood in a new project

which maintained an affinity with

the tree itself. To mark the 50th

anniversary of the LC collection,

the company gave designer Jaime

Hayon the task of honouring the

great master by creating a series

of accessories – unavoidably

limited editions –from the wood

of this unique Paulownia tree.

Architektur. Sie ist ein Manifest

der Architektur, das bereits die

Grundzüge des Programms

aufweist, das der Architekt

anschließend in den zwanziger

Jahren entwickelte. Die Villa

wurde 1924 fertig gestellt und von

seinen Eltern bewohnt. Im Garten

der Villa wurde ein von vielen

Architekten als „heiliger Baum“

betrachteter Paulownia-Baum

gepflanzt. Seine langen Äste

sollten das Dach des „Salle de

verdure“, eines nahe am Wasser

befindlichen Raums, bilden,

der durch eine Mauer mit einem

kleinen Fenster eingegrenzt war,

das einen perfekten Rahmen für

den atemberaubenden Blick auf

den See bildete. Dieser Baum

wurde 2013 gefällt, weil er krank

war. Nachdem Cassina von der

ECAL/ École cantonale d’art de

Lausanne von dieser Geschichte

erfahren hatte, beschloss die

Firma, dass dieses bedeutende

Element des ursprünglichen

Projekts nicht verloren gehen

sollte, und entschied, das Holz

dieses Baums für ein neues

Projekt zu nutzen, dass die

Verwandtschaft mit ihm bewahrt.

Aus Anlass des 50. Jubiläums der

Kollektion LC betraute Cassina

daher den Designer Jaime Hayon

mit der Gestaltung einer

Accessoires-Serie als Hommage

für den bedeutenden Meister.

Natürlich kann diese Serie nur

in limitierter Auflage hergestellt

werden,, da sie aus diesem,

einzigen Paulownia-Baum

gefertigt wird.

La Villa « Le Lac », située sur les

rives du lac de Genève en Suisse,

est le premier exemple

d’architecture moderne conçue

par Le Corbusier et par son

Elle représente un manifeste

architectural où s’expriment

déjà les lignes directrices du

programme que l’architecte

développera au cours des années

20 ; elle fut achevée en 1924 et

devint la maison de ses parents.

Dans le jardin de la villa fut planté

un Paulownia, considéré par

de nombreux architectes comme

un « arbre sacré » parce que ses

le toit de la ‘salle verte’, un espace

près de l’eau délimité par

Cet arbre fut coupé en 2013

Cassina, informée de cet épisode

design Lausanne, eut l’idée de

ne pas laisser perdre cet élément

important du plan original, et

de réutiliser son bois pour créer

un nouveau projet en mesure de

maintenir une affinité avec l’arbre

lui-même. À l’occasion du 50ème

anniversaire de la collection

LC, l’entreprise a donc confié au

designer Jaime Hayon la tâche

de rendre hommage au grand

maître en créant une série

d’accessoires, inévitablement en

édition limitée car réalisés avec

le bois de cet unique Paulownia.

Sono così nati tre oggetti decorativi per la casa

che, come dice lo stesso Hayon, “parlano il

linguaggio poetico dell’albero”. Pensando “agli

uccelli che cantano con il sottofondo delle foglie

che si muovono con il vento, a una piccola casa

per quegli uccelli, e ai bambini che ridono

felicemente mentre oscillano dai rami” Hayon

ha disegnato una piccola collezione: un uccellino

che funge da porta lettere grazie a una piccola

fessura nel suo becco e lungo la curva del

dorso della schiena; la sua casa, cioè un piccolo

contenitore svuota-tasche e una mensola a forma

di altalena da fissare al muro con due cordoncini

in cuoio naturale.

of “the birds that sing against the

background of leaves moving

in the wind, a small home for these

birds, and the children laughing

happily whilst swinging from the

branches”, Hayon designed a mini

collection: a little bird that acts

as a letter holder thanks to a small

crack in its beak and along its

curved back, the bird’s house,

or rather a small trinket holder,

and a seesaw-shaped shelf which

connects to the wall with two

natural leather straps.

“die poetische Sprache des Baums

Rückenkrümmung als Briefständer

dient, sein Häuschen in Form

eines kleinen Utensilienbehälters,

und ein wie eine Schaukel

geformtes Wandregal gehören,

das man mit zwei Naturleder-

Schnuren an der Wand anbringen

kann.

objets décoratifs pour la maison,

qui, comme le dit Hayon lui-même,

“parlent la langue poétique de

l’arbre”. En pensant “aux oiseaux

qui chantent sur la musique de

fond des feuilles qui bougent

maison pour ces oiseaux, et aux

enfants qui rient avec bonheur

tout en oscillant sur les branches”,

Hayon a conçu une petite

collection: un oiseau qui sert

de boîte aux lettres grâce à une

petite fente dans son bec et le

long de la courbe de son dos,

sa maison, c’est-à-dire un petit

vide-poche, et une tablette

en forme de balançoire à fixer

au mur avec deux petits cordons

en cuir naturel.

La ricerca di Cassina e Hayon per nuovi

complementi per la casa si amplia proprio a partire

dalla collezione Villa le Lac Paulownia e scaturisce

in un altro gruppo di oggetti sempre in legno

ma non più strettamente legati all’“albero sacro”.

Forme plastiche, scultoree che richiamano alla

memoria il primo periodo dell’opera pittorica di

Le Corbusier in cui sono rappresentati gli elementi

della natura che provocano una risonanza che

trova eco nel subconscio.

Nasce cosi la collezione Réaction Poétique: oggetti

funzionali per la casa moderna come vassoi e

tavolini realizzati in un solo materiale e in una sola

finitura per esaltare la vera bellezza del legno

e la capacità di Cassina nel lavorarlo.

Taking the Villa le Lac Paulownia

collection as its starting point,

Cassina and Hayon’s research

into new home accessories has

broadened into another range

of objects, also created in wood

but not directly linked to the

“sacred tree”. The Réaction

Poétique collection is a set of

plastic shapes and sculptures that

recall Le Corbusier’s early

works, representations of natural

elements that resonate and

Un padre fondatore del design

industriale italiano nella

Collezione Cassina i Maestri

In occasione del Salone del Mobile 2015 il

Catalogo Cassina dei Maestri si arricchisce di

tre opere che hanno fatto la storia del Design

italiano, tre poltrone di Marco Zanuso disegnate

tra il 1949 e il 1964: Antropus, Lady e Woodline.

L’antologia dei Maestri di Cassina aggiunge

così nuove icone del “bel design” italiano al proprio

programma produttivo e culturale di arredi:

le opere di Zanuso si uniscono ai modelli

del maestro Franco Albini e alla Superleggera

di Gio Ponti, già presenti nelle Collezioni

Cassina, a delineare gli albori della via italiana

al design moderno.

Marco Zanuso (1916-2001) è stato fra i maggiori

interpreti della cultura del moderno, come

architetto, designer e docente universitario.

Formatosi al Politecnico di Milano e, nel primo

dopoguerra, condirettore di “Domus” con Ernesto

N. Rogers, tra i molti riconoscimenti delle sue

opere di design ottiene più volte la Medaglia

d’oro e il Gran Premio della Triennale di Milano

(VIII,IX,X,XI,XIII), e cinque Compassi d’Oro

negli anni tra il 1956 e il 1985.

Tra i primi in Italia a interessarsi ai problemi

dell’industrializzazione del prodotto, Marco Zanuso

ha sviluppato un’attenzione specifica al tema

della progettazione, concepita come un processo

integrato in cui la forma finale dell’oggetto

di design è frutto della sintesi di una pluralità di

variabili non solo estetiche, ma di tipo tecnologico,

industriale, distributivo, comunicativo.

La forma di un oggetto destinato alla riproduzione

seriale, secondo Zanuso, è sintesi di opportunità,

sperimentazioni e innovazioni situate nel

processo concreto che lega creatività, produzione,

e contesto socioculturale.

“Mi interessa dare forma attraverso il progetto

a quello che chiamo complessità” diceva

Zanuso. Un approccio globale e relazionale

alla progettazione, dunque, che implica da parte

del progettista il coordinamento di diverse

competenze e figure del processo produttivo,

e che Zanuso condusse sempre attraverso

un dialogo vivo e concreto con le imprese.

Dall’applicazione di nuovi materiali e tecnologie

- in primis la sperimentazione con la ditta Arflex,

fondata nei primi anni ’50 proprio come laboratorio

di sperimentazione per l’utilizzo della gommapiuma

associata al nastrocord in ambito domestico -

alla miniaturizzazione delle componenti per

Con queste premesse appare oggi più che mai

viva l’immagine che ritrae Marco Zanuso proprio

alla presentazione della collezione LC a Milano

il 30 settembre 1965. Lo vediamo ritratto davanti

alla LC4, la nuova riedizione di Cassina della

chaise longue à réglage continu di Le Corbusier,

che permise allora a Cassina di portare alla

conoscenza di un pubblico più ampio

una delle icone del design internazionale.

Nel testo di presentazione di queste riedizioni

di Le Corbusier, Jeanneret, Perriand lo stesso

Rogers scrisse che, essendo “la qualità di

queste opere l’avere condensato nelle loro forme

un’interpretazione del tempo che supera

la cronaca, la possibilità di sperimentarle oggi

permette di cogliere quella sintesi di perfezione

cui sempre l’architettura dovrebbe aspirare”.

È questo stesso carattere che ritroviamo

in molti oggetti di Zanuso, che al di là delle

ovvie trasformazioni tecnologiche sopraggiunte,

mantengono inalterato il valore intrinseco

della ricerca di oggetti archetipici frutto

di una progressiva selezione di possibilità per

il raggiungimento della forma essenziale.

On the occasion of the 2015

Salone the Cassina Masters

Catalogue has been enriched with

three works that have shaped the

history of Italian design:

Three armchairs by Marco

Zanuso designed between 1949

and 1964: Antropus, Lady and

Woodline. The Masters of Cassina

anthology has thus added new

icons of Italian “good design”

to its cultural and productive

furniture programme. Zanuso’s

works go alongside the models

of Franco Albini and the

Superleggera of Gio Ponti, already

present in the Cassina Collections,

to outline the origins of the Italian

approach to modern design.

Marco Zanuso (1916-2001) was

one of the greatest interpreters

of modern culture, as an architect,

designer and lecturer. Trained

at the Polytechnic University of

Milan and, after the war, co-editor

of Domus with Ernesto N. Rogers,

among his many design awards

he repeatedly won the Gold Medal

and the Grand Prix of the Milan

Triennale (VIII, IX, X, XI, XIII), and

five Golden Compasses in the

years between 1956 and 1985.

Among the first in Italy to take

an interest in the problems of

product industrialisation, Marco

Zanuso paid close attention to the

theme of design, conceived as an

integrated process in which the

final form of the design object is

the result of the synthesis

of a plurality variables not just

aesthetic, but also technological,

industrial, distributional, and

communicational.

The shape of an object intended

for serial reproduction, according

Zanuso, is a synthesis of

opportunities, experiments and

innovations located in the

concrete process that connects

creativity, production, and social

and cultural context.

“Through my projects i want

to give form to what i call

complexity”, said Zanuso.

This comprehensive and relational

approach to design thus involves

the designer in coordinating

the different skills and people

involved in the production

process, which Zanuso always

conducted through a living and

concrete dialogue with his clients.

From the application of new

materials and technologies -

primarily experimentation with

Arflex, a company founded in the

early 1950s as an experimental

laboratory for the use of foam

associated with nastrocord in the

home – to the miniaturisation

of components for telephones

and televisions with Brionvega.

With this in mind the image of

Marco Zanuso at the presentation

of the LC collection in Milan on

30 September 1965 is even more

intriguing. We see him portrayed

facing the LC4, the chaise longue

à reglage continu by Le Corbusier

looking at the new Cassina edition

that introduced one of the

icons of international design

to a broader audience.

In the presentation text of these

new editions of Le Corbusier,

Jeanneret, and Perriand, Rogers

wrote that as “the quality of these

works lies in the fact that they

have condensed into their forms

an interpretation of time that goes

beyond narrative and the

possibility of experiencing

them today is an opportunity to

understand that concise

perfection to which architecture

should always aspire”.

This is the same character

that we find in many of Zanuso’s

objects which, aside from the

obvious technological

transformations achieved,

maintain intact the intrinsic value

of the research into objects,

fruit of the gradual selection

of possibilities in order

to get to an essential form.

Einer der Gründer des italienischen Industriedesigns in der Cassina-Kollektion i Maestri

Die Anthologie der Maestri im

Katalog von Cassina und der

jeweiligen Primärobjekte, die die

moderne Kultur geprägt haben,

wird aus Anlass des Salone del

Mobile 2015 aufgrund einer mit

den Erben abgeschlossenen

Vereinbarung, mit der Akquisition

der Reproduktionsrechte einer

Reihe grundlegender Produkte

bereichert, die vom Architekten

und Designer Marco Zanuso

gestaltet wurden.

Dank dieser Cassina gebotenen

Möglichkeit, weitere Ikonen

in die Produktpalette und das

kulturelle Programm von

Einrichtungsgegenständen

aufzunehmen, können nun die

Anfänge des typisch

italienischen, modernen Designs

auf noch detailliertere Weise und

in Verbindung mit den Modellen

des Meisters Franco Albini,

der einer der bedeutendsten

Exponenten der Entwicklung der

italienischen, rationalistischen

Denkweise war, und mit dem Stuhl

Superleggera von Gio Ponti

(der aufgrund der Ersterstellung

seitens Cassina im Jahr

1957 ohne spätere Neuauflage

seltsamerweise zur

zeitgenössischen Cassina-

Kollektion i Contemporanei

gehört), veranschaulicht werden.

Es handelt sich um drei Sessel:

Antropus, Lady und Woodline,

die im Zeitraum von 1949 bis

1964 entworfen wurden.

Diesen Projekten liegt eine Art

und Weise der Problemanalyse

und meisterhaftes Streben

nach Synthese zugrunde, um zu

einem für die Serienproduktion

bestimmten Modell zu gelangen.

“Ich versuche, der sogenannten

komplexität mit einem projekt

eine form zu verleihen”, erklärte

Präsentation der Kollektion

LC am 30. September 1965 in

Mailand darstellt. Er steht vor der

LC4, der Chaise longue à réglage

continu um die neue Version

von Cassina zu betrachten, dank

deren damals ein größeres

Publikum mit einer der Ikonen

des internationalen Designs

vertraut gemacht werden konnte.

Im Text, mit dem diese

Neuauflagen der Projekte von

Le Corbusier, Jeanneret, Perriand

präsentiert wurden, schrieb

Rogers, da “die Besonderheit

dieser Werke darin besteht,

dass in ihren Formen

eine Interpretation der Zeit

zusammengefasst ist, die über

die Chronik hinausgeht, versetzt

uns die Möglichkeit, sie heute

zu erproben, in die Lage, diese

allseitige Perfektion zu verstehen,

nach der die Architektur stets

streben sollte.”

Dieses Merkmal finden wird

in zahlreichen Gegenständen

von Zanuso wieder, die über

die offensichtlichen, vollzogenen

technischen Veränderungen

hinaus den Wert bewahren,

der der Entwicklung der als

Archetypen geltenden

Gegenstände eigen ist, die im

Ergebnis einer fortschreitenden

Wahl von Möglichkeiten zur

Erzielung der essentiellen

Form entstanden sind.

qui permit, depuis, à Cassina

d’amener à la connaissance d’un

public de plus en plus large l’une

des icônes du design international.

Dans le texte de présentation de

ces rééditions de Le Corbusier,

Jeanneret et Perriand, Rogers lui-

même écrivit que, comme “la

qualité de ces œuvres est d’avoir

condensé dans leurs formes une

interprétation du temps qui

dépasse la chronique, la possibilité

de les expérimenter aujourd’hui

permet de saisir la synthèse de

perfection à laquelle l’architecture

devrait toujours aspirer”.

C’est ce même caractère que

nous retrouvons dans beaucoup

d’objets de Zanuso, qui, au-delà

des évidentes transformations

technologiques ajoutées,

maintiennent inchangée la valeur

intrinsèque de la recherche

d’objets archétypiques qui sont

le fruit d’un choix progressif

de possibilités pour atteindre

la forme essentielle.

Michele De Lucchi è un architetto e un designer

che ha condotto nel corso della sua esperienza

professionale un’importante ricerca personale

sui temi del progetto, della tecnologia e

dell’artigianato. Una ricerca che ha spesso avuto

come elemento centrale un materiale semplice

e tradizionale come il legno, da lui trasformato

in sculture ma anche in architetture dalle linee

morbide come quelle della 298 (UniCredit Pavilion

Project). Un involucro, concepito con materiali

naturali e tecniche di costruzione innovative,

situato nella nuova area di Porta Nuova.

Per i suoi interni l’architetto ha ipotizzato una

sedia pieghevole, una seduta flessibile adatta

ad uno spazio polifunzionale, un’interpretazione

molto sofisticata della tipica sedia da regista in

faggio naturale, un materiale resistente e durevole.

Realizzata all’interno della falegnameria di Cassina

con una serie di macchine a tecnologia avanzata,

la sedia, rifinita e assemblata a mano, rivela, nelle

sinuosità dei braccioli e delle gambe, un’alta qualità

di lavorazione, che le conferisce una silhouette

particolarmente leggera.

Michele De Lucchi is an architect

and designer who in the course

of his career has conducted an

important personal study into the

themes of design, technology

and craftsmanship. As its central

element, this study has often

focused on a simple and

traditional material such as wood,

which De Lucchi has transformed

not only into sculptures but also

into architectural structures with

soft lines like those displayed in

the 298 (UniCredit Pavilion

Project). The building envelope,

conceived using natural materials

and innovative construction

techniques, is in Milan in the new

Porta Nuova area. For the interior

the architect has envisioned

a folding chair, a flexible seat

adapted to a multifunctional

space. This highly sophisticated

version of a typical director’s

chair is made out of natural beech

wood, a strong and durable

material. Produced in the Cassina

carpentry studio using a series

of technologically advanced

machines, the chair is finished

and assembled by hand.

The sinuosity of the armrests

and legs reveal highly skilled

craftsmanship that gives the

chair a particularly light silhouette.

Une structure enveloppante,

conçue avec des matériaux

naturels et des techniques de

construction innovantes, située

dans le nouveau quartier

de Milan de Porta Nuova. Pour ses

intérieurs, l’architecte a imaginé

un fauteuil pliant, une assise

flexible convenant à un espace

polyfonctionnel, une interprétation

très sophistiquée du fauteuil

de réalisateur typique en hêtre

naturel, un matériau résistant

et durable. Ce fauteuil, réalisé

à l’intérieur de la menuiserie

de Cassina avec une série de

machines à technologie de pointe,

fini et assemblé à la main, révèle

dans les sinuosités des

accoudoirs et des pieds une

qualité de fabrication supérieure,

qui lui donne une silhouette

L’esattezza di ciò che porta naturale bellezza, non fa porre domande sull’impegno che ha preceduto il risultato. È il sottinteso stupore che aggiunge valore. Se ne subisce il fascino, se ne è rapiti, e non se ne sa trovare la ragione. Se non in quella sottile certa sensazione che è la cosa giusta per chi la sceglie.Sembra essere questa la condizione con cui si mostrano e con le quali si guardano le produzioni Cassina, che siano eredità dei Maestri o concezioni dei Contemporanei. Forse perché frutto della determinazione che solo l’idea perfezionabile riesce a raggiungere, al di là e al di qua, di ogni considerevole sforzo che implica, divenendo il più delle volte, il piacere di una sfi da vinta. L’insieme partecipa alla defi nizione fi nale: lo studio di un incastro, la conformazione di un imbottito, la scelta di un materiale e di un colore, la visualizzazione e l’affi namento di un processo, la messa a punto di un macchinario, l’impuntura di una cucitura, la ricerca di un solido equilibrio strutturale. Tasselli di un tutto, immaginati da talenti, governati da mani che sanno cosa fare, che per prime plasmano, rifi niscono, maneggiano parti di oggetti destinati al contatto visivo, corporeo e sensoriale. Seguono taciti patti consolidati, che appartengono alla laboriosa fedeltà di una storia, fatta per spostare il tempo, mai per rimpiangere quello passato. In un ordito di memorie, sempre nuove, destinate a ciclicità, né effi mere né passeggere, ma avvezze a cogliere i piccoli scarti di umori e dinamiche dello scorrere mutevole degli anni. Attecchiscono in modo sincero e così appaiono e si dipanano, come astrazioni di idee mai astratte. Sono divani, sedie, poltrone, tavoli e tavolini defi niti nel loro farsi e disfarsi, nella durata. Riemergono, come lasciti ai posteri o si aff ermano come testimoni del presente, in un andirivieni che si rinnova in tecnica e stile. Giusti per il luogo che gli si decide, nel caso in cui scoccasse la scintilla e ci si ritrovasse a non domandarsene il perché.

Assonance.The intrinsic perfection of a naturally beautiful object does not invite questions about the eff ort that went into creating it. The added value lies in the understated astonishment it elicits as it both seduces and overwhelms without having to know why. Just that vague conviction that it is the right thing for the right person. This seems to be what happens when Cassina products are displayed, showing the legacy of the Maestri collection or giving ideas from the Contemporanei collection. Possibly since it is understood that only an idea that can be improved on can give the satisfaction of having met the challenge head on, generally taking no account of the endeavour behind it. The fi nal ensemble is a refl ection of each individual part: the right joint, the shape of a tuft, the choice of materials or colour, perfecting a work process, calibrating a machine, a certain type of backstitching or the quest for a stable structural balance. All are elements of the whole, dreamt up by designers and fashioned by expert hands that mould, shape and put the fi nishing touches onto items that will touch the visual, physical and sensorial faculties. They follow well-established

Ce ne sont que des parties d’un tout, elles sont imaginées par des talents,

Ce sont des canapés, des sièges, des fauteuils, des tables grandes et petites, défi nis dans leur structure, dans la durée. Ils réapparaissent, comme laissés à la postérité ou s’affi rment comme des témoins du présent, dans ces allers et retours incessants qu’il y a dans la technique et le style. En adéquation avec l’endroit qu’on va lui trouver, au cas où une étincelle se produit et qu’on se retrouve à ne pas s’en demander le pourquoi.

This armchair was designed in 1928 and purchased for the home of Swiss banker and collector Raoul La Roche.

This version is one of the fi rst prototypes of the sofa and, when compared with the standard version, places great emphasis and focus on the stark contrast between the materials. The limited edition of 90 pieces is a celebration of 90 years since the construction of Maison La Roche.

Ce fauteuil fut conçu en 1928 et acheté pour l’habitation du banquier suisse et collectionneur, M. Raoul La Roche.

Cette version constitue l’un des premiers prototypes du fauteuil et, par rapport à la version standard, elle attire et accentue l’attention sur le fort contraste entre les matières utilisées. Antropus di Thornton Wilder fu una delle prime commedie messe in scena al Piccolo Teatro di Milano, per la quale Zanuso fu incaricato di studiare le scene e gli arredi. Tra questi una poltrona in cui utilizzò i nuovi materiali in corso di sperimentazione, alla quale diede appunto il nome Antropus.

Ende der vierziger Jahre war Wir sind noch

einmal davongekommen

(La Famiglia Antropus) von Thornton Wilder eine der ersten Komödien, die im Mailänder Piccolo Teatro aufgeführt wurden und für die Zanuso mit der Gestaltung der Szenenbilder und der Einrichtungen beauftragt wurde. Dazu zählte ein Sessel, für den er die neuen, in Erprobung befi ndlichen Materialien verwendete, und dem er den Namen Antropus gab.

Mailänder Triennale präsentiert wurde – und dort übrigens auch die Goldmedaille errang – ist eine Ikone der Moderne, denn er beruht auf einer bedeutenden technischen Materialinnovation (Schaumgummi und Federung mit Elastikbändern), die mit einer tiefgehenden Veränderung der traditionellen Polstermöbelfertigung, das heißt, der getrennten Herstellung der Einzelteile und anschließenden Montage zum Fertigprodukt, verbunden war.

est conseillée pour toute la LC Collection;

le cuir « LCX » organique est particulièrement

adapté. Cuir vachette pleine fleur, teint en

tonneau: produit par des procédés de tannage,

Dopo aver analizzato il processo industriale adoperato

nella produzione e nello smaltimento

del cromo utilizzato per i modelli della LC Collection,

Cassina ha deciso di impiegare il cromo trivalente,

un’alternativa sicura e con una tossicità molto più

bassa rispetto al cromo esavalente grazie

ai minimi livelli di concentrazione, meno emissioni

nell’aria e, di conseguenza, meno rifiuti tossici.

Nuovi colori per le strutture

La ricerca storica svolta da Cassina, la Fondazione

Le Corbusier e gli eredi dei co-autori, ha portato a una

serie di upgrade di prodotto per la LC Collection con

l’obiettivo di scoprire lo spirito autentico del progetto.

Cassina presenta una palette di colori rivisti per le

strutture della collezione che aggiorna le nuance

originariamente identificate da Charlotte Perriand nel

1978. Le nuove tonalità sono state scoperte durante

l’analisi dei modelli presenti negli archivi e nei musei.

Nach einer Analyse des Industrieprozesses für die

Fertigung der Modelle der LC Collection und der

Entsorgung des dafür verwendeten Chroms hat

sich Cassina dazu entschlossen, auf dreiwertiges

Chrom zurückzugreifen. Dieses stellt dank seiner

geringeren Konzentration an Chrommetall,

niedrigerer Emissionen in die Luft und somit

auch weniger toxischen Abfällen eine sichere

und deutlich weniger giftige Alternative zum

sechswertigen Chrom dar.

Neue Strukturfarben

Die von Cassina, der Fondation Le Corbusier

und den Erben der Co-Designer betriebene

historische Recherche hat zu einer Reihe von

Produktaktualisierungen bei der LC Collection

geführt. Ziel dieser Recherche war es, dem

ursprünglichen Esprit des Projekts auf die

Spur zu kommen.

Cassina präsentiert eine neue Farbpalette

für die Strukturen der Kollektion mit einer

Überarbeitung der von Charlotte Perriand im Jahr

1978 angegebenen Nuancen. Die neuen Farbtöne

wurden während der Analyse der Modelle in den

Archiven und Museen entdeckt.

After having researched the industrial

process adopted in the production and

disposal of the chromium used in the LC

Collection models, Cassina decided to employ the

trivalent chromium, a safe and considerably

less toxic alternative to hexavalent thanks

to lower chromium concentration levels,

less air emissions and consequently less toxic

waste.

New frames colours

The historical research carried out by Cassina, the

Fondation Le Corbusier and the heirs

of the coauthors, has led to a series of product

upgrades for the LC Collection with the aim

of discovering the authentic spirit of the project.

Cassina presents a reviewed palette of colours for

the collection’s frames which will update

the nuances originally identified in 1978

by Charlotte Perriand. The new tones were

discovered during the analysis of models from the

archives and museums.

dans la production et l’élimination du chrome

des modèles de la LC Collection, Cassina

a pris la décision de n’utiliser que du chrome

trivalent, une alternative sûre, avec une toxicité

considérablement plus faible que celle du

chrome hexavalent, grâce à des niveaux de

concentration plus bas, moins d’émissions dans

l’air, et donc moins de déchets toxiques.

Nouvelles couleurs pour les structures

La recherche historique menée par Cassina,

la Fondation Le Corbusier et les héritiers des

co-auteurs a conduit à toute une série de mises

à niveau de produits pour la LC Collection,

dans l’objectif de découvrir l’esprit authentique

de ce projet. Cassina présente une palette de

couleurs revisitées pour les structures de la

collection, qui sera une variante des nuances

identifiées à l’origine par Charlotte Perriand

en 1978. Les nouvelles tonalités ont été

découvertes pendant l’analyse des modèles

des archives et des musées.

Leder auf höchste Qualität gesetzt und die

Farbpalette des Naturleders (Pelle Naturale)

erweitert und durch die neue Kollektion von

Naturleder ZZ (Pelle Naturale ZZ) bereichert,

die außerordentlich warme, natürliche Farben,

mit Pastelltönen umfasst, durch die sie noch

authentischer wird.

Es wird ausschließlich Vollnarbenleder verwendet,

wobei die kleinen Fehler den Nachweis über

den natürlichen Ursprung eines Rohmaterials

erbringen, das den besten italienischen und

europäischen Zuchten entstammt und in

traditionellen, italienischen Gerbereien unter

Einhaltung aller Umweltschutznormen verarbeitet

wird. Tradition und Moderne, ein perfektes

Bündnis, aus dem edles, schönes Leder mit
