C2C is the concept of the German chemist Michael Braungart and the American architect William McDonough.Waste equals food means that all materials and resources can be used again and dont have to be disposed. Waste doesnt exist anymore.Use current solar income means that all energy is generated in a renewable way. Besides the sun causes the growth of biomass, that can also be used as a renewable resource.Celebrate diversity points at the enormous (bio)diversity of nature. This diversity gives the opportunity to adapt to changing circumstances and makes systems robust.

A fourth starting point can be added: Add value. Not just avoid activities and developments to cause no harm, but let them add something positive, like purification or the production of nutrients.

Waste equals food means that materials and resources are part of a continuous cycle. The are two distinct cycles: a biological and a technical cycle.The biological cycle is the natural cycle, where plants grow by sun, water and nutrients in the soil. The plants are eaten by animals, that are eaten by other animals, that die and are degraded by bacteria to nutrients in the soil, that make plants grow, etcetera.All materials and resources that are not biological degradable belong to the technical cycle. Products are produced, used and should then be taken back and disassembled. The separate parts should be reused in at least the same quality. In this way there is no disposal and no new resources needed.8

Application of C2C on products:It is important that the content of a product is 100% known and that no toxic components are in it. For this the ABC-X system is developed. Components that belong to category A are good and can stay in the product. Components of category B are questionable and should be optimized. Components of category C are tolerable because no alternative is available yet. These components should be phased out. The components of category X are really bad and not acceptable. Then there is a group of components that can not be characterized, for example because suppliers dont want to give their data. These components should be phased out as well. Products in the technical cycle should be designed for disassembly. The product should be easy to take into pieces, to reuse the different parts of it. At the same time this means that products are easy to assembly, which can save money. Products should be designed for the period they are used. So its important to think about the use period first. The organisations of Michael Braungart (EPEA) and William McDonough (MBDC) offer a certification possibility for products that meet their requirements. Depending on the quality there are basic, silver, gold and platinum certificates. 9

Sustainable Industries Park in London will close material loops by setting up a material database and enhancing the exchange of materials between companies.At Ecoparc Windhof in Luxembourg sustainable energy will be generated for the business site. In Lille the brownfield La Lainire will be refurbished with attention to different forms of diversity. Economic zones - pilot sites13

Ecoparc Windhof is a cooperation of companies on the business site Windhof in Luxembourg. It is an existing business site, but they are building a new office building that generates a lot of different kinds of renewable energy. The cooperating companies are already purchasing green energy together and they realised a kindergarten on the site. They want to make their business site more C2C, focusing on continuous loops and energy.In Luxembourg there are two more partners, the research institute Tudor, that is especially involved in the energy research, but also in continuous loops, and the ministry of sustainablity and infrastructure, that is responsible for the final C2C BIZZ manual.13

Si on prend lexemple de la production de papier, du point de vue Cradle to Cradle, dans le procd conventionnel de la fabrication de papier les fibres du papier ne peuvent pas tre recycles indfiniment et ne peuvent donc pas tre considres comme des nutriments dun cylce technique.
