A sailing crash course for grown-ups taught by a sailing instructor! FROM THE SOLEIL D’ORIENT TO LA COURONNE 11 FEBRUARY TO 19 MARCH 2017 This exhibition whisks visitors away on a journey through the fascinating past of the shipbuilding sites on the banks of the Scorff, where ships were built and the city of Lorient developed between the 17 th and 19 th centuries. By the Mémoire vivante de la construction navale association. OPTIMIST SINCE 70 YEARS 14 OCTOBER TO 7 JANUARY 2018 The Optimist often brings back childhood memories. This little single-seater sail boat was designed 70 years ago as a learning tool for teaching sailing and regatta cruising. This exhibition takes a look back at the Optimist’s past, how it conquered the world’s hearts and how it was upgraded. By the Cité de la Voile Éric Tabarly. FAMILY DAY TRIPS FOR 3- TO 6-YEAR OLDS * NEW An activity leader guides kids through a step-by-step miniature lighthouse-making workshop. Children will also learn everything there is to know about lighthouses. What are they for? How can their lights be seen from so far away? (Running time 45 min., up to 16 participants, registration required on the day at the ticket office) How many times have you been told not to touch what you see in a museum? At l’Annexe, touching is permitted and indeed highly recommended! You’ll be using your hands as well as your entire body. And to boost the sensory experience, this exhibition is a shoe-free zone! ‘PLEASE DO TOUCH’ is a fun, interactive exhibition that invites visitors to explore their tactile facilities by stimulating this sense in as many ways possible! Designed for visitors of all ages and structured around 50 original experiments, the exhibition introduces you to active touching (the act of touching), passive touching (the act of being touched) as well as the emotional aspect (to be touched). As the very first sense a foetus develops, touch spans a huge variety of different perceptions, both internal and external. How do we perceive pressure, heat or cold? What are our perception thresholds for these stimuli? What are they reliant upon? Is it really painful to lie on a bed of nails? So many questions you’ll see answered in the exhibition’s various themed spaces: “the metal house”, “the stroking tunnel” and “the igloo”, to name but a few. The “Muchy Touchy” space is dedicated to younger visitors (aged 3 to 6) and is an opportunity for kids to have their sense of touch stimulated. This sensory temporary exhibition is a hit with young and old alike. A bilingual (French and English) international touring exhibition from Belgian association Apex and adapted especially for l’Annexe, a new cultural venue in Lorient La Base. 50 interactive modules spread across a 400m 2 space. 8 April to 3 September 2017 ‘PLEASE DO TOUCH’ EXHIBITION 3+ years Running time: 1.5 hours THE GIFT AND BOOK SHOP A great range of books plus a selection of marine themed ornaments, carts, posters, educational games and regional produce.
