    donation of $5,000 toward an endow­ ment fund for the Library, in addition to many smaller gifts; and a large per­ sonal gift was the greater part of the cost of building the fireproof Gard­ iner Memorial Bdom there, which houses the Long Island Historical Col­ lection. Miss Thompson’s latest gift to St. Luke’s Church was the automo­ bile bus; previously to that gift, she had' cleared a mortgage of SlS.CfSO; and given a trust fund of $25,000. She had often helped the Presbyterian Church; and' was a large contributor to the Neighborhood Association.

    Some of the large contributions made by Mi&s Thompson during her lifetime to New York organizations were $200,000 toward the cost of build­ ing the nave of the Cathedral of St. John- the Divine, in 1924; $15,000 to the United Hospital Fund in 1925; $5,000 to the American Merchant Marine Li­ brary Association in 1926; $25,000 to the American Society for the Control of Cancer in 1927; $1,000 toward the fund for the Navy and Marine Mem­ orial in Washington in 1928, and $15,- 000 to the United Hospital Fund last year.

    Miss Thompson was a life member of the colonial Dames of America. A niece. Miss Sarah D. Gardiner of 3 East 82nd street. New York, and Sag­ tikos Manor, Islip, is the nearest sur­ viving re^ativj.
