Since 1956 JMD has endeavored to support and highlight the artistic achievements of young chamber music ensembles. Through its core values of quality, authenticity and community, the chamber music course challenges each group to realize its potential.

“A quartet for the new millennium if I ever heard one” wrote the Strad magazine upon hearing CUARTETO CASALS for the fi rst time, shortly after its inception in 1997 at the Escuela Reina Sofía in Madrid. Since winning First Prizes at the London and Brahms-Hamburg competitions, Cuarteto Casals has been a repeated guest at the world’s most prestigious concert halls in Europe, North America and Asia. The Quartet has compiled a substantial discography with the Harmonia Mundi label. The musicians have been profoundly infl uenced by its work with living composers, especially György Kurtag, and has given the world premiere of quartets written by leading Spanish compo-sers. In recognition of Cuarteto Casals’ unique position as the fi rst Spanish string quartet with a truly international profi le, it has been honored with the Premio Nacional de Música as well as the Premi Ciutat Barcelona. The quartet performs yearly on the extraordinary collection of decorated Stradivarius instruments in the Royal Palace in Ma-drid. In addition to giving much sought-after masterclasses, Cuarteto Casals is Quartet in residence at the Koninklijk Con-servaotrium Den Haag and at the Escola Superior de Musica de Catalunya in Barcelona, where all four members reside.

Heime Müller (prev. Artemis Quartett)

Heime Müller studied violin with Marian- ne Petersen, Uwe-Martin Haiberg, Ulf Hoelscher and Nora Chastain. From 1991 until 2007 he performed as 1st or 2nd violinist of the famous Artemis Quartet around 900 concerts all around the world. Recordings of his became awarded with Deutscher Schallplatten-preis, Diapason d‘Or and Echo Klassik. Heime Müller is a renow-ned teacher for Violin and for Chamber Music. He taught at the University of Arts in Berlin and is currently Professor for Violin and Chamber Music at the Musikhochschule Lübeck. Moreover he holds a professorship for String Quartet at the Escuela Su-perior de Música Reina Sofi a in Madrid. He frequently gives ma-sterclasses all over Europe. Heime Müller ist the artistic director of the Jeunesses Musicales International Chamber Music Campus in Weikersheim.

Günter Pichler (violin, prev. Alban Berg Quartet)

Günter Pichler, violinist from Kufstein, Austria, studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna, and became concertmaster of the Vienna Symphony under W. Sawalisch at the age of 18. At 21, he was appointed con- certmaster of the Vienna Philharmonic by Herbert von Karajan. From 1963 to 2009 he was professor at the University of Music and Perfor-ming Arts Vienna, from 1993 to 2012 at Cologne University of Music. In 2007 he was appointed head of the chamber music department at Escuela Superio de Musica Reina Sofi a, Madrid. He teaches at summer academies like Pro Quartet Paris, Acca-demia Chighiana Siena and Misqua Montreal. Many of his stu-dents made successful careers, among them the Artemis, Aron, Belcea, Casals and Fauré Quartets and up and coming ensem-bles such as the Amaryllis, Finzi, Piatti, Minetti, Schumann and Voce Quartets. In 1970 Günter Pichler founded the world famous Alban Berg Quartet and was its fi rst violin until it disbanded in 2008. In addition, Pichler has been active as a conductor, wor-king with internationally renowned orchestras around the world.

Marianna Shirinyan (piano)

Armenian-born Marianna Shirinyan is one of the most creative and in sought after pianists in Europe today. Her vibrant and virtuos musicianship puts her in demand, both as soloist and as chamber musician. She has received Danish Broadcasting Corporation‘s pre-

stigious P2 award for her contribution to Danish music life and the critics prize of the association of Danish critics. Shirinyan is a frequent guest at a string of international music festivals and has won the reputation of being one of this generations leading pianists through solo appearances with re-nowned orchestras and conductors and she has a bright disco-graphy. All the CD’s has been received enthusiastically by inter-national reviewers and listeners alike. Shirinyan is a professor of piano at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo, a Steinway artist and artistic director of the Oremandsgaard Chamber Music Festival in Denmark and also co-artistic director of the Valdres Sommersymfoni in Norway.

Suzann Bolick (Yoga for musicians)

Suzann Bolick is a movement pedagogue for the performing arts and studied at the „Ernst Busch“ Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin. Since many years she is teaching movement and stage dance for opera singers and musician-specifi c bodywork for instrumentalists at the HMTM Hanover. Professional music-making and concerts are a challenge to the body, putting strain on muscles, tendons and joints. The workshops focus on soma-tic imbalances and work with specifi c exercises based on yoga. The own body will be perceived in a more balanced, upright and grounded way and the participants can experience more moti-vation, openness and clarity on a psychological level.

Please beware of the deadline, as the jury will make its choiceshortly thereafter. Only fully completed forms will be consi-dered. The following application material is mandatory:

• curriculum vitae of the ensemble (indicating previous compe- titions, prizes, major concerts, recording, etc.) • individual CVs• reference letters from professors or tutors and press critics• recent/new audio recordings of the ensemble (YouTube link) min. 15 minutes.• a contemporary work in the repertoire is appreciated. The artistic director offers advice and suggestions (requested via chambermusic@jeunessesmusicales.de).

A jury will select the ensembles to be invited based on their ar-tistic potential. All applicants will receive a response by about two weeks after the deadline. There will be a waiting list from which ensembles may move up.
