• Ce n’est qu’au XIVe siècle qu’ils construisirent les monastères perchés en haut des rochers. A leur apogée, on comptait 24 monastères. Un bon nombre furent détruits pendant la dernière guerre par les nazis. En effet, les résistants grecs s’y réfugiaient souvent.
