Thechâteauburntdownin1579andwasrebuiltatthebeginningofthe17thCentury.Themainrectangularbuildingisflankedbyasquarewatchtowerwithcorbellingoneachside.Two18thCenturypavillonsstandoneithersideoftheterrassewhichthenleadstothegardens.

JACQUESCHIRAC(1932-2019)

AlthoughJacquesChiracwasborninParishisfamilyrootswereverymuchinCorrèze(hisancestorsweresmallfarmersfromGros-Chastang)andthisiswhyhechoseCorrèzeastheplacetostarthispoliLcalcareer.HewaselectedConseillerMunicipalinSainte-FéréolenearBrivein1965,wasDéputédelaCorrèzefrom1967to1995,ConseillerGénéraloftheMeymacCantonin1968andPrésidentduConseilGénéraldelaCorrèzefrom1970to1979.AtthesameLmehewaselectedMayorofParisfrom1977to1995andheldthehighestfuncLonsintheFiVhRepublic:hewasseveralLmesaminister,thenPrimeMinisterandfinallyPresidentofFrance-apostheheldfor12years.DespitehismanyresponsibiliLes,JacquesChiracremainedextremelyclosetoCorrèzeandtheCorréziens.Underhisleadershipthedépartementexperiencedstrongeconomicgrowth.Hecontributedtomanybusiness,culturalandsocialiniLaLvesthroughoutCorrèze-inparLcularthroughtheFoundaLonwhichtodaybearshisname.Truetohisroots,JacquesChiracneverfailedtosupporttheagricultureofCorrèzeandtopromoteitsproductsinFranceandthroughouttheworld.InorderforpeopletopaytheirrespectstoPresidentChirac,booksofcondolencewillbeavailableattheHôtelduDépartementMarbotinTulleandattheMuséeduPrésidentJacquesChiracinSarran.

ThestarLngpointoftheprojectwasasmallhouseandabarninthemiddleofafieldandtheuseoflocalmaterials-granite,slate,oakandchestnutwoods-togetherwithindustrialmaterials(glass,metal…)allowsforaperfectintegraLonofthemuseumwithitsenvironment.Thebuildingsoverlookasmallvalleywhichwasre-modelledbythelandscapearchitectMichelDesvigne.
