Thomas Edison was an American inventor, scientist, andbusinessman who developed many devices that greatlyinfluenced life around the world, including thephonograph, the motion picture camera, and a long-lasting, practical electric light bulb. Dubbed "The Wizardof Menlo Park" (now called Edison, New Jersey) by anewspaper reporter, he was one of the first inventors toapply the principles of mass production and largeteamwork to the process of invention, and therefore isoften credited with the creation of the first industrialresearch laboratory
