• « terrified » : action brève et ponctuelle dans le passé => j’utilise le prétérit simple.
• « was reading », « was doing » : action en déroulement dans le passé => j’utilise le prétérit
continu.

4) Corrigé : freak shows in the USA.
These documents are posters of freak shows that took place in the late 19th century. On the
posters, we can see the smallest or the biggest people in the world. They were probably the
stars of the shows. Adults and children could go and see them in the afternoon or in the evening.
From what we understand of theses posters, a freak show may be a representation where people
considered as weird are put on display. The performers are called freaks, they were meant to
frighten spectators. Nowadays, this type of show would be unacceptable because it violates
basic human rights, depriving the performers of their dignity. Today, people can easily be scared
by watching horror TV shows and movies that rely heavily on special effects to create terrifying
characters and settings.
