PROGRESSION IN SESSION:
My Loved Ones, I want to thank the congregation for your support, prayers, sacrifice and faith demonstrated in our worship last week as we celebrated our 128th Church Anniversary. Our Music Ministry, under the leadership of Derrick L. James, deserves high commendation for elevating the quality of the Music Ministry to an even higher level of vocal splendor.
Moreover, I am grateful to those of you who gave a special Anniversary Gift. Your benevolence is deeply appreciated. Today, as a part of our Anni-versary, we are launching our two-month Church Canvas & Pledge Drive, which will enable us to formulate our 2017 operations budget, as well as our pledge commitments for our building fund. I am asking you to make yourself available for the
next three Sundays for Sheepfold meetings with your deacon, immediately following worship.
Today is Leadership Sunday! We celebrate the extraordinary competence, compassion and commitment of our servant leaders found in the Deacons’ and Trustees’ ministries. We honor Deacons and Trustees as those who work diligently to support the minis-try of our church, providing assistance to the pastor and nurturing the congregation. The lay ministries of Deacons and Trustees have been essential to our growth and our capacity to serve our members and community. We acknowledge these dedicated offi-cers who daily serve the Lord, as we bless God for anointing them with the insight and boldness to serve. We thank God for their service and we offer tribute them.
As we know, this week has been a tremendous challenge to the social justice aspect of our ministry. The new president-elect may present many challenges for our community --one’s that we must be ready to meet. Ours is a legacy of engagement as a congrega-tion and we will be present in the discourse and actions of this current struggle. We are resolved to make our government and its leadership accountable to the goals and aspirations of our people. We will not despair, for we know that God was not up for election on Tuesday night. He is still on the Throne! In God, we will continue to trust!
With Shepherd’s Love,
Pastor
