The C.P.W.D. Specifications were first printed in 1950. Subsequently these specifications wererevised and brought upto-date in 1962, 1967 and lastly in 1977. These have been found to be verycomprehensive and useful in execution of works both by Engineers and contractors. These have alsobeen adopted by a number of Departments, Public Sector Undertakings, Architects Builders etc.These have also served as a guide for preparation of National Specifications for building works by.N.B.O. These have been acknowledged as departmental standards in B.I.S. Hand Book 1990.In view of advancement in design, construction technology, production of new, non-coventionalmaterials etc. and also because of the experience gained since 1977 when CPWD Specifications werelast revised, it has become necessary to revise and up date them.The revised updated specifications are proposed to be published now in six volumes as has been statedin the introduction.Volume I of these specifications 1991-92 dealing with general chapter of carriage of materials andearth work has already been released. This Volume-II of CPWD Specifications 1991-92 deals withChapters of Mortar, Concrete work, RCC work, Brick work, Stone work and Marble work. It alsoincludes some of the latest building materials, itillovative technologies like clay-flyash bricks andlime-fly ash bricks etc. Acceptance criteria has also been made more practical to over come theshortcomings in the present system.Volume III to VI are under preparation and will be made available in a phased manner. Hindi versionof Vol. II is under compilation and will be published separately.I am sure that this Volume will be useful to all concerned.Any error or omission in this volume and suggestions for improvement may be brought to the noticeof the Chief Engineer SPG /Superintending Engineer Standards Specifications Unit ofC.P.W.D.
