    The Camera that fits yourneeds!

The PicSight Series is more than just a camera family.PicSight's processor based architecture has beendesigned to fit the needs of OEM's and to allow therapid integration of additional features. PicSightCameras are available with 26 different monochromeand color sensors. Just pick the sensor that is moresuitable for your application. PicSight Gigabit Ethernetcameras can do more than just acquire images, theyhelp you solve engineering problems.

    Gigabit Ethernet Interface

The Gigabit Ethernet interface allows delivering imagesat high speed over standard inexpensive gigabitEthernet network components. This helped to make itthe de facto standard. You can use standard CAT 5Ethernet cables with cable lengths up to 100 Meterswithout additional hardware. This lenght can beextended by using gigabit Ethernet switches to repeatthe network signal. The power supply and cable can beeliminated by using PicSight GigE cameras with thepower-over-gigabit-Ethernet option, without any lossof bandwidth.

    GigE Vision and GenICam compliant

As Leutron Vision is one of the leading contributors tothe GigEVision and GenICam standards, all PicSightGigE cameras are fully GigE Vision and GenICamcompliant. PicSight will then work with GigEVision andGenICam compliant software such as with all majorimage processing libraries.

    PicSight Real-time Functions

PicSight cameras offer more. The RTF option's built-inFPGA provides real-time functions such as onboardBayer decoding and hardware LUT's. PicSight Hardware Features

    Sensors

The sensor is the most important part of your PicSightcamera. Select one out of 26 different sensors, that fits

your needs. They are available as CMOS or CCDsensors in monochrome and 8, 10 or 12 bit color withresolutions from VGA up to 5M pixels. Cameras canrun full frame with maximum frame rates up to 200

frames per second. The gain and black level values areprogrammable. Our Cameras offer high dynamicrange, high image quality and a high signal-to-noiseratio. EMVA-1288 measurement data is available. Every

feature is programmable providing the flexibility youwant for your application.

    Acquisition Modes

Our CCD cameras and most of our CMOS camerashave progressive scan global shutters and support freerun, simple trigger and integration time controlledtrigger acquisition modes. The CMOS cameras withrolling shutter offer snapshot and global reset modes.

    Multiple I/O

PicSight cameras have direct TTL input as well as a TTLoutput for direct flash control. This provides minimumlatency for image acquisition and light strobing.PicSight cameras also have two programmable inputand three output optocouplers. Depending on thecamera version, an analog video output is available asoption.

    GigE-Interface

The gigabit Ethernet network interface is powered by a32-bit RISC processor and offers maximumperformance and compatibility to 10/100/1000megabit Ethernet networks. PicSight GigE cameras are

fully GigE Vision and GenICam compliant and workplug-and-play with all major image processing libraries. The filter driver allows the host CPU to handle the high

data transfer rate efficiently. The ability to upgradecamera firmware in the field extends cameramaintainability.

    Image Memory

PicSight GigE cameras have 16MB of memory forimage storage, which allows transferring images eitherin chunk or in frame mode. The delayed transfer modeallows acquiring images from multiple cameras at thesame time. Each camera then delivers it's image after agiven delay time to minimize packet collisions andtransfer the data with optimal network performance. Ainter-packet-delay mode allows PicSight GigE camerasto work with slower networks. In addition, the cameracan record image sequences and has a pre- and a post-triggering mode to take images at a specific timerelative to the trigger signal.

    Real-time Features

The RTF version of the PicSight GigE cameras use amore efficient FPGA and offer additional real-time

features such as high quality Bayer decoding with easyto use white calibration on the camera, lookup tablesand analog video output.

    Integrated Lens Controller

The AS-RTF version of the PicSight GigE is equipped

with a integrated 3-channel lens controller formotorized lenses with DC voltages up to 24V. It canset and read back lens settings for zoom, focus andaperture directly through the camera API. Lenspositions are resolved at 256 levels (8 bit). Therepositioning accuracy is 1 %.

    OEM-Features

For OEM customers we offer a variety of additionalpossibilities such as preset-parameter-lists, timestamp, transfer of additional image related data such as

exposure time and gain values inside the image (imagesignature) or advanced synchronization betweenmultiple cameras, for example master/slave triggeringand intelligent color processing. Please contact us formore information.

Leutron Vision - one of thedriving forces of standardsdevelopment

Leutron vision is a important contributor to thedevelopment of both, the GenICam and the GigE

    Vision standards.

    GigEVision

GigE Vision standard was published in 2006 by theAIA (Advanced Imaging Association). It defined

communication protocols for industrial cameras using(Gigabit) Ethernet as transport media. The goal of thestandard was to make sure that Gigabit Ethernettechnology in machine vision was used in the bestway possible. It also brought high interoperabilitybetween cameras and software libraries compliant tothe standard - particularly between the cameras andthe software libraries. Now, it is possible for machinevision software to exchange data automatically withany camera present in the system without the need towrite and maintain dedicated interfaces

Main advantages of GigE Vision over "competing"technologies are:

Plug&play, support of GenICam standard. Excellent interoperability and vendor

independence High performance, good scalability (Number of

cameras available in the system is practicallyunlimited).

Cost effective solution based on off the shelfcomponents.

GigE Vision is actually a set of protocols built on topof UDP/IP, allowing maximum possible performance.

    GeniCam

The purpose of GenICam is to provide a unifiedapplication programming interface (API) to the usersof machine vision cameras. Sitting on top of theindividual transport technologies (such as GigE

Vision), it enables an easy integration of individualcomponents, such as cameras and image processinglibraries. GenICam is independent of the transportlayer technology. GenICam consists of three mainmodules, GenApi, SFNC, and GenTL.

GenICam GenApi GeniCam API, defining means todescribe all camera features, their correspondingcontrol registers and providing access to those

    features.

GenICam SFNC Standard Features NamingConvention, standardizing names (ID's), types andother aspects for most common features of machinevision cameras.

GenICam GenTL GenICam Transport Layer, aninterface between applications and camera controllibraries, covering device enumeration, imageacquisition and related tasks.

    Image Acquisition Software

The primary programming interface for Leutron Vision

cameras is the Simplon API. Simplon encapsulates accessto individual camera types and technologies in a single, consistent interface. It also unifies various aspects ofGenICam (GenApi & GenTL) aspects of the cameracontrol.

Simplon comes also with a preprocessing library thatunifies access to preprocessing capabilities of somecameras and similar functionality in the software. Lastbut not least, it also offers GUI components and dialogs

for inclusion in user applications such as the GenICamfeature tree control.

    Supported platforms

Simplon is available for Windows (32/64-bit), Linux(32/64-bit) and for OEMs also for VxWorks. Allsupported platforms are treated with the same priority, share the equivalent feature range and provide the sametoolset. Releases for all platforms are synchronized andall tests are executed on every platform. Migrating to adifferent operating system or upgrading to a 64-bitarchitecture is thus very straightforward and painless.

The Simplon API provides a pure C interface, an object-

oriented C++ interface and a .Net class library.

    Interfacing 3rd Party Software Packages

Besides the Simplon API, the camera can also beaccessed through standard interfaces such as GenICam

GenTL or GigE Vision. The cameras pass allcorresponding standard certifications and strictly followthe standard requirements, including GenICam SFNC,to a degree unrivaled among competitors. The strictSFNC compliance assures best compatibility withgeneric software packages, and especially itspredictability and intuitive use.

    The cameras are compatible with

Halcon & ActivVisionTools (MVTec Software) VisionPro (Cognex) LabView (National Instruments) MIL (Matrox) Common Vision Blox (Stemmer Imaging) and more

    Sample Code Generator, Demos

To simplify and streamline the development process,Leutron Vision provides a source code generator tool. This flexible tool allows the generation of Simplon APIcode snippets or full application skeletons for manydifferent use cases, including camera configuration, buffering & acquisiton or image preprocessing. Demo

programs are available and allow experimentation withcameras' and Simplon functionality withoutprogramming as well.

    Need a special feature?

If your application demands special features, PicSightcameras might address them easily! The flexible processor

based PicSight architecture in combination with our RapidDevelopment Process allows for quick and cost effectiveextension of the camera's hardware and software. Ourqualified sales engineers can help you find the solution that

fits your needs best. After evaluating your requirements, our development teamwill create a draft solution for your review. Then it willdevelop a test to ensure the design meets yourrequirements, and start implementing your design. Oncethe prototype passes the tests, production begins.Modifications can be made in the processing part, the FPGA,the interface module, to the hardware or to the host sidesoftware.

Example: 3D measureing system for the automotiveindustry

The Task:The system needs 16 high resolution cameras toachieve the required accuracy, and the images must be the bestpossible. Each camera acquires a sequence of 5 images withdifferent shutter and gain values. All cameras are synchronizedby a hardware trigger. The master camera begins transferringthe image to the host immediately. Depending on theprocessing results of the master camera images, the hostchooses and requests only one image out of the sequence fromeach of the other 15 cameras. Only 20 images, instead of 80,must be transmitted and processed. This approach reduces theamount of data that needs to be transferred dramatically andguarantees the required cycle time.

The Solution: To solve the job, a few customer specific

    functions had to be implemented.

Thanks to the flexible processor based PicSight architecture andthe Rapid Development Process, the solution was implementedwithin 4 weeks.
