«Lesécolesdoctoralesontétémisesenplacepouraméliorer la visibilité et la cohérence du systèmedes études doctorales et élargir la formationreçue par les doctorants afin de leur apporter denouvellespossibilitésd’ouverturetantverslemondeacadémiquequeceluide l’entreprise.Ellesoffrentau futur docteur un encadrement scientifique dehautniveauainsiqu’unepréparationàleurinsertionprofessionnelle.L’écoledoctoraleestaussichargéedusuividesdocteursdansleurprofessionnalisation.L’écoledoctoralefédèreunensembled’équipesderecherchequiprennentenchargelaformationetledevenirdesdoctorants.Lesforcesscientifiquesquereprésententlesunitésderechercheappartenantàl’écoledoctoralesontunélémentdéterminantdeleurqualité.Àl’UPPA,huitéquipesderechercheontétéqualifiéespourladuréedu«contratquinquennal»2011-2015. Certains de ces laboratoires sontassociés à de grands organismes (CNRS, INRA,INRIA) ou de grandes entreprises (TOTAL). Ainsi,l’ensemble du dispositif de recherche de l’UPPApermet de conjuguer recherche académique etrecherche finalisée de niveau international, etd’ouvrirauxdoctorantsdespossibilitésdecarrièreadaptéesàleursprojetspersonnels.Notre école doctorale va aider le doctorant àdévelopper tout au long de sa thèse un projetprofessionnel, en mettant à sa dispositiondes formations diversifiées, en favorisantl’interdisciplinarité, les relations avec lesentreprises, les contacts internationaux et enparticulier transfrontaliers. Les écoles doctoralesde l’UPPA et de l’Université du pays basque vouspermettent notamment de suivre des formationsproposéesparlesdeuxétablissements.Nous sommes à votre service pour vous aider àacquérir uneméthodologie de recherche, à gérervotretemps,àprotégervotretravail,àleprésenter,àlediffusermaisaussiàlesituerdansuncontexteplus large,àréfléchiràvotreavenirprofessionnelà l’échelle internationale, voilà quelques-uns desobjectifs concrets que nous pouvons atteindreensemble!»

Les étapes importantes

L’INSCRIPTION À L’ÉCOLE DOCTORALE LOCALISÉE À L’UFR SCIENCES DE PAU Et oui ! Le doctorat est le dernier diplôme du cursus LMD (licence, master, doctorat) et de ce fait une inscription en bonne et due forme est requise.

Pour ce faire, il te faudra prendre contact avec Mme Venancio au secrétariat de l’école doctorale. Dossier d’inscription à remplir sur le site de l’ED : http://ed-sea.univ-pau.fr/live/inscription+en+doctorat.

ANOTER:L’inscriptionestàrenouvelerchaqueannéeetlesfraisd’inscriptionsontd’environ400€.

SIGNATURE DU CONTRAT DOCTORAL

L’inscription à l’Université et la signature du contrat doctoral sont deux choses bien distinctes. Alors que la première te permet l’accès au grade de docteur, la seconde marque ton entrée dans le monde du travail. En effet, il s’agit d’un contrat à durée déterminée de 3 ans qu’il faut signer avec ton employeur. Il peut s’agir de l’Université, du CNRS ou de tout autre organisme gestionnaire (e.g. ADEME…). Ce contrat de travail mentionne le versement d’un salaire mensuel d’un minimum de 1300€ nets.

IMPORTANT : Tu passes en régime « salarié » auprès de la sécurité sociale. Penses à aller t’inscrire à la CPAM

ANOTER:Touteslesuniversitésn’exigentpasl’obtentiond’unfinancementenparallèleàl’inscriptionàl’écoledoctoralemaisl’EDdePausi!Celaveutsimplementdirequ’aucunethèsenonrémunérée(quecesoitparuncontratdoctoral,unebourse,unecifre,etc…)neseraacceptéeparladirectiondel’ED.

CRÉATION DE L’ENT ET MAILL’inscription à l’Université entraîne la création d’un espace numérique de travail (ENT) qui t’es propre ainsi que d’une adresse mail à ton nom dont la forme la plus courante est : pré[email protected]. Sur l’ENT, tu peux :

• gérer tes mails, • consulter l’annuaire de l’UPPA, • bénéficier d’un espace de stockage personnel, • accéder aux cours en ligne et aux espaces collaboratifs sur le WebCampus…

AU COURS DE LA THÈSE Le quotidien d’un doctorant

COMITÉ DE SUIVI DE THÈSEChaque année, un comité de thèse composé d’un groupe d’experts (directeur de thèse, codirecteurs et une ou deux personnalités extérieures) ainsi qu’une personne choisie par le doctorant, se réunit avec le doctorant qui doit présenter les avancées de ses recherches. Le but est d’évaluer sa progression au cours des trois années. Ce comité se réunit une fois par an avant la date de réinscription à l’année suivante. Unefichedecomitédesuivi (àtéléchargersur lesitedel’ED) devra être transmise, au secrétariat de l’ED avantl’inscriptionen2èmeet3èmeannée.

RECHERCHE BIBLIOGRAPHIQUETout doctorant est obligé de passer par là ! L’UPPA met à disposition des étudiants une base de données contenant une grande variété d’éditeurs de journaux (Wiley, Springer, ACS …). Par ailleurs, si tu as des questions à propos de la recherche bibliographique, une formation intitulée « Recherche documentaire » pourra t’aider. Celle-ci est obligatoire pour les doctorants de première année comme tu l’as vu dans le paragraphe « Fiche de formation ».Labasededonnéesestaccessiblesurlesitedel’Universitéhttp://bibliotheques.univ-pau.fr/live/bases-de-donnees

COMMUNICATION SCIENTIFIQUE

L’un des objectifs de la thèse est aussi de communiquer ces résultats et ainsi enrichir la documentation scientifique dans son domaine d’activité. Pour cela, il existe plusieurs supports sur lesquels tu seras amené à travailler. Il peut s’agir :• d’un poster, qui se devra d’être attractif pour capturer

l’attention, structuré pour favoriser la lecture et concis pour axer la communication sur le message ciblé.

• d’une communication orale lors d’un congrès national ou international, pour lequel la langue officielle est l’an-glais (le plus souvent) et le temps de parole de 15 à 30 minutes.

• d’une communication écrite, ou publication scientifique, généralement structurée de la manière suivante : intro-duction, matériel et méthodes, résultats et discussion.

AVENANT AU CONTRAT DOCTORALEn dehors de tes activités de recherche tu peux aussi faire une mission doctorale supplémentaire, sous forme d’avenant. Celle-ci représentera 1/6 du temps de travail.

Différentes missions peuvent être effectuées :• Enseignement : Durée maximale annuelle de 64h en

équivalent TD ou TP• Diffusion de l’information scientifique et technique :

Durée maximale de 268h ou 32j.• Valorisation des résultats de la recherche scientifique

Sa mise en place administrative«Pourcettemission j’ai simplement réponduà l’appelàprojet lancé courantmars-avril par l’écoledoctoraleauxétudiantsenthèse,nousraconteAudrey.Ilsnousontainsicommuniquél’existenced’uneboursedélivréeparlaCom-munautédesCommunesdeLacq(CCL)quiapourobjectifdefinancercegenred’avenant..LepremiercontactaveclasociétéBorochemSASs’estmatérialiséparune«lettred’accueil»jointeàmondossieravecmonCVetunelettredemotivation.»Suite à l’acceptation de son dossier il a fallu rédiger une convention entre la direction de la recherche et de la Valorisation (DRV), l’entreprise et elle-même. «Attentionànepastraîner,leséchangesentrelesdifférentespartiespeuvent prendre du temps » nous conseille Audrey. En effet, la convention permet de définir le rôle du doctorant ainsi que d’éluder tout conflits d’intérêts possibles. Elle met en place l’organisation des 32 jours de mission prévus par l’avenant. A qui s’adresse ce genre de projet selon elleAudrey conseille de faire une mission de doctorant à tous ceux qui ont, comme elle, connu l’industrie par le passé. Ceux-là sont, selon elle, plusàmêmed’avoirles«réflexesde base » imposés par des règles strictes de sécurité. Les curieux dont le sujet de thèse s’approche d’une thé-matique industrielle, peuvent aussi tenter l’expérience. Audrey poursuit en disant, «Enfait, lescritèresmajeurssont,d’êtremotivéetdenepascomptersesheures!».

Sur internet : il est judicieux de s’y inscrire dès les premiers moments de la thèse et d’ajouter au fur et à mesure les contacts rencontrés pendant ces trois années. Les plus connus sont :• LinkedIn et Viadeo pour développer un réseau international

et national respectivement• ResearchGate permet à des scientifiques du monde entier

These schools offer thefuture Ph.D. graduate a solid framework of high-level scientific supervision and support aswell asapreparationforgettingintotheworkplace.EachDoctoral school is also responsible formonitoringand steering of Ph.D. graduates towards ongoingprofessionalisation.Our Doctoral School federates several researchteams in charge of training programmes and theindividual career paths of Ph.D. students. The key stepsENROLMENT IN THE DOCTORAL SCHOOL (ED)

LOCATED IN THE SCIENCE DEPARTMENT IN PAU A Doctorate is the highest grade in the French university educational system (LMD) and you must therefore enrol in due form.

For this, you will need to contact Mrs. Venancio at the Doctoral School secretariat The enrolment forms that you have to fill in can be found on the ED website:

SIGNING YOUR DOCTORAL CONTRACT

Enrolling at the university and signing the doctoral contract are two different things. The first will allow you to pursue a PhD degree, while the second marks the beginning of your working life. The duration of your contract will be 3 years. Your employer can be the university, the CNRS or another institute (e.g. ADEME, ...). The contract will also stipulate payment of your salary, which will be at least €1,300 Euros.

IMPORTANT: You will be classified as an ‘employee’ by the Social Security/Welfare services. Don’t forget to enrol at the health insurance office (CPAM).NB:Notalluniversitiesrequireyoutoobtainfinancinginadditiontoyourenrol-

mentattheuniversity.AtPauDoctoralSchool,wedo,however.ThismeansthattheboardoftheEDwillonlyacceptfinancedtheses(doctoralcontract,scholarship,Cifre…).

DURING YOUR THESIS Daily life of the PhD student

THESIS COMMITTEE

Every year, a thesis committee composed of a group of experts (thesis supervisor, co-supervisors and one or two external people) and one person chosen by the PhD student, meets the PhD student, who will have to present their progress in their research. The goal is to evaluate their progression over the three years. This committee meets once a year before enrolment for the following year.A thesis committee form (to be downloaded on the EDwebsite)will have tobe submitted to theED secretary’sofficebeforeenrolmentforthe2ndand3rdyear.

LITERATURE RESEARCH

Every PhD student has to do it! The UPPA has a large database at the disposal of its students, containing a wide variety of journal editors (Wiley, Springer, ACS, …). By the way, if you have any questions regarding this literature research, the training course entitled « Documentary Research » will be of help. SCIENTIFIC COMMUNICATION

One of the objectives of a thesis is also to communicate your results, thereby contributing to scientific documentation in your research area. There are several ways to achieve this, including:

• A poster, which has to be attractive to catch the attention, structured to make it easy to read and concise to focus on the message that you want to communicate.

• Oral presentation, during an (inter)national congress, at which the official language is (mostly) English and your presentation time will be between 15 and 30 minutes.

• Written paper or scientific publication, in general structured in the following manner: introduction, materials and methods, results and discussion.

ADDENDUM TO YOUR DOCTORAL CONTRACT

Besides your research activities, it is also possible to conduct a supplementary doctoral assignment, in the form of an addendum to your contract. This will represent 1/6 of your working hours.

Different tasks can be carried out:• Teaching: Maximum annual duration of 64 hours as an

assistant for tutorial or practical sessions.• Dissemination of scientific or technical information:

Maximum duration of 268 hours or 32 days.• Promotion of scientific or technical research results:

FIRMA DEL CONTRATO DOCTORAL

La matrícula en la Universidad y la firma del contrato son dos trámites diferentes. La primera te permite acceder al grado de doctor y la segunda representa tu entrada al mundo laboral. De hecho, se trata de un contrato temporal de 3 años que hay que firmar con el organis-mo empleador. Puede tratarse de la Universidad, el CNRS u otro (ADEME, por ejemplo). Este contrato de trabajo indica el salario mensual, como mínimo de 1 300 € netos.

IMPORTANTE: A partir de ahora pasas al régimen de «salarié» (asalariado) en la segu-ridad social. No olvides inscribirte en la CPAM (seguridad social en Francia).

DURANTE LA TESIS El día a día de un doctorando

COMITÉ DE SEGUIMIENTO DE TESIS

Cada año, un comité de tesis compuesto por un grupo de expertos (director de tesis, codirectores y una o dos personas externas) y con una persona elegida por el doctorando, se reúne con el doctorando que debe presentar los avances en sus investigaciones. El objetivo es evaluar su progresión a lo largo de los tres años. Este comité se reúne una vez al año antes de la matrícula del año siguiente.Antes de matricularse en segundo y tercer año, es necesario transmitir la ficha de comité de seguimiento (descargable en la página intranet de la E.D.) a la secretaría de la E.D.

INVESTIGACIÓN BIBLIOGRÁFICA

¡Todo doctorando está obligado a pasar por aquí! La UPPA pone a disposición de los estudiantes una base de datos con una gran variedad de revistas (Wiley, Springer, ACS…). Si tienes dudas sobre la parte bibliográfica, puede serte de utilidad la formación titulada «Recherche documentaire». Esta es obligatoria para los doctorandos de primer año, como habrás podido observar en el apartado «Ficha de formación».Puedes acceder a la base de datos a través de web de la Universidadhttp://bibliotheques.univ-pau.fr/live/bases-de-donnees

COMUNICACIÓN CIENTÍFICA

Uno de los objetivos de la tesis es comunicar los resultados, así como enriquecer la documentación científica de tu campo. Existen diferentes formatos posibles:

• Póster, que deberá ser atractivo para llamar la atención, estructurado para favorecer la lectura y conciso para hacer llegar el mensaje.

• Exposición oral en un congreso nacional o internacional, donde por lo general el idioma oficial es el inglés y el tiempo de la charla, unos 15 - 30 minutos.

• Comunicación escrita, o publicación científica generalmente estructurada de la siguiente manera: introducción, materiales y métodos, resultados y debate.

CLÁUSULA ADICIONAL AL CONTRATO DOCTORAL

Aparte de tus actividades de investigador, puedes desem-peñar una misión doctoral adicional, bajo la forma de una cláusula adicional a tu contrato. Esta podrá representar 1/6 de tu tiempo de trabajo.

Trámites administrativos«Para esta misión, simplemente respondí a unaconvocatoria de la Escuela Doctoral, lanzada enmarzo-abril y abierta a los estudiantes en tesis», nos cuentaAudrey.«NoscomunicarontambiénlaexistenciadeunasbecasdelamancomunidaddeLacq(CCL)quetienenporobjetivo financiar este tipo de dispositivos. Mi primercontacto con la sociedad Borochem SAS desembocó enunacartadeacogida,queadjuntéamiexpedienteconmicurrículumyunacartadepresentación.»Tras la admisión de su expediente, hubo que redactarun convenio entre la dirección de Investigación y laValorización(DRV),laempresayAudrey.«Mejornodejarloparaelúltimomomento,lasidasyvenidasentrelaspartespuedenllevarsutiempo»,nosaconsejaAudrey.Elconveniopermite definir el papel del doctorando así como eludirtodoslosconflictosdeinteresesposibles,organizandolos32díasdemisiónprevistosenlacláusulaadicional.

¿A quién se dirige este tipo de proyectos?Audrey recomienda realizar unamisión a todos los que,como ella, conocen la industria de antes. Estos, segúnella, ya están familiarizados con las estrictas normasde seguridad de este sector. También puede interesara aquellos cuyo tema de tesis esté relacionado con latemática industrial.
