National formats (DTA, DTAUS) : National credit transfers and direct debits (Einzugsermächtigungslastschrift) Ndirect debits (Abbuchungsauftrag) Niche products : There are no “niche products” products in Germany Direct debit initiated by a payment card “Elektronisches Lastschriftverfahren, ELV” : Transactions made by using a payment card at the point of sale which results in a direct debit


2- IBAN

Germany IBAN is composed of 22 characters :

DE CC 12345678 0123456789 Positions 1 – 2: ISO country code (DE for Germany) Positions 3 – 4: Check digits Positions 5 – 12: Bank and branch identifier Characters 12 – 22: Account number* * Some German account numbers have less than 10 digits; in this case “0” should be added on the left side

4- CREDITOR IDENTIFIER (CI)

Germany CI is composed of 18 characters :

DE CC ZZZ 01234567890 Positions 1 – 2: ISO country code (DE for Germany) Positions 3 – 4: Check digits Positions 5 – 7: Creditor Business Code (by default “ZZZ”) Positions 8 – 18: Creditor National Identifier German CI can be obtained from the German Central Bank


5- MANDATES MIGRATION

Existent “Einzugsermächtigungsverfahren” mandates remain valid for SDD Core For “Abbuchungsauftragsverfahren” a new SDD B2B mandate needs to be issued and signed by the debtor

8- PRACTICES

The German banking community has agreed to additionally permit the use of special characters allowed in the existing national payment transactions, such as mutated vowels/ umlauts, i. e. Ä, Ö, Ü, ä, ö, ü, and special letters, such as the ß.


9- REASON CODE USAGE In case of unsuccessful collection, German debtor banks will not be able to use the following R-transaction reason codes, due to consumer protection reasons :

MD07 Debtor deceased

AG01 Direct debit forbidden on this account for regulatory reasons

AM04 Insufficient funds

RR01-04

Regulatory reason


10- ADDITIONAL OPTIONAL SERVICE

German banks offer SEPA Direct Debit COR1 * scheme on

a national level on 4 November 2013 * This scheme allows for shorter (D-1) file submission timelines for first/one-off and recurrent collections compared to the regular Core scheme timelines
