Калининград морепорт расположенный у балтийского моря и это географическо не часть России. В 2002 нацоинальный население был 430 003 людей.

Калининград очень важная страна для промышленности, перевозка и рыболовство. Большое количество телевизоров в России строят в Калининграде и у них машина фабрика. Также у нас в Калининграде есть культура, например много музей, который выставляют историю, исскуство, архелогия и окружающая среда – музей моря. Есть также великий театр, который находится в центре города.

Тоже Калининград очень живописный. У них в городе есть парк и большое количество памятников, например космонавт Алексей Леонов, Юрий Романенко и Александр Викторенко. В Калининграде также есть большой зоопарк, кафедральный собор в стиле кирпичной готике и искусственный озеро зовут нижний пруд. Это очень популярный для отдых, особенно летом.

К тому же много разные рестораны с международную еду и традиционная русская еда, поэтому Калининград очень хорошое мемто для туристов.

Commentary on Example 1(Kaliningrad)

Reading, Research and Understanding

This candidate is able to offer some factual information about his / her chosen topic of Kaliningrad and shows some understanding of the economic role which Kaliningrad plays in Europe and Russia, e.g. ‘Калининград очень важная страна


для промышленности’. There is some evidence of research and wider reading as the essay touches on a wide range of different aspects of the study of a geographical region, i.e. tourism, industry, environmental factors and cultural factors. The essay contains simple factual information about each of these in relation to Kaliningrad. The material is somewhat descriptive, however, and the candidate does not address the specific question on the examination paper in any depth, probably due to a lack of sufficient knowledge in this area. This essay appears to be general summary of all the factual knowledge which the candidate has about the region and contains very little analysis.

Organisation and Development

The candidate is able to organise the material into paragraphs and sequence these. There is little overall attempt at building the essay into a coherent whole, however. The essay mentions a large number of different points which relate to Kaliningrad but does not develop any of these beyond giving basic factual information. The introductory paragraph sets the scene effectively but the limited conclusion does not relate the points made in the essay to the question on the examination paper. The essay is 139 words in length, shorter than the 180-200 words expected.

Quality of Language

The language used in this candidate’s essay is sufficient to communicate meaning although accuracy is very variable. Some verb agreements and case endings are correct, others are not. The candidate is able to use a range of lexis appropriate to the topic, such as ‘промышленность’, ‘окружающая среда’, although there is a significant amount of simplistic lexis. There is occasional mother-tongue interference which impedes comprehensibility and the register is often inappropriate for an essay at this level. Sentence construction is basic and the candidate does not employ essay-type constructions as a framework for his / her writing.

Overall, this essay demonstrates some research but does not demonstrate the analytical approach required by the specification. To access the higher Mark


Ranges, candidates should analyse the research they have undertaken, give their opinions and justify them within the boundaries of the question set on the examination paper.


Example 2 (Anastasia Romanova)

После трудного времени в Советском периоде, рассказ об Анастасии Романове даёт надежду русским людям сегодня. Сегодня много русских людей ещё помнят историю Анастасии потому, что они хотят помнять лучшие времена. Хотя жизнь была трудная, когда королевская семья жила, большинство людей были счастливые.

Великая княжна Анастасия родилась 18 июля 1901 года в Петергофе. Её родители были Николай второй, последний царь России, и его жена, Александра. У Анастасии была три старшие сестры и один брат.

В 1917 году в России произошла октябрьская революция. К власти пришли Большевики и они решили уничтожить царскую семью. Их фррестовали в Сибири и солдаты расстрелали царсую семью в погребе, но люди не уверены, что произошло с Анастасией после этой ночи. Есть много дакадок, потому что только пять мёртвых тел обнаружили, поэтому два тела были пропавшие.

В течение многих лет, много женщин претендовали на то, что они великая княжня Анастасия, такие, как Южения Смит и Анна Андерсон. Самая вероятная причина появления этих самозванцев то, что россиские люди хотели верить, что Анастасия живёт. Однако, в 2008 году, учёные доказали, что Анастасия умерла в 1918 году с её семьей.

Commentary on Example 2 (Anastasia Romanova)


This candidate offers in-depth factual knowledge about Anastasia Romanova and is able to relate her role to modern Russia effectively and interestingly (‘Россииские люди хотели верить, что Анастасия живёт’). Although it is unclear which historical period was studied in preparation for the Research-Based Essay, the candidate does set Anastasia in the context of the early 20th-century upheavals in Russia and describes her role in the Russian psyche effectively. There is significant evidence of reading and research, including factual information and key dates, and an analytical approach is taken to the essay with some suggestions given as to why the story of Anastasia occupies the minds of Russians today. The candidate has knowledge of the area to enable him / her to write an effective essay which demonstrates understanding beyond simple restating of facts.

The essay is well planned and the candidate is able to sequence the ideas in the essay effectively and produce a coherent piece of writing overall. The historical context of Anastasia is introduced neatly and the paragraphing enables the reader to follow the development of the candidate’s argument. Through the whole essay, the points made lead the reader towards the conclusion. The essay is 207 words, which is just within the rubric.

Mark Range: 7-8

Quality of Language

The language in this essay enables the candidate to communicate his / her ideas effectively. Case endings and verb agreements are generally correct and the overall impression is of accuracy in the grammar expected at A2 level. The candidate uses some phrases which would be expected in analytical essays at this level, e.g. ‘хотя’, ‘однако’, ‘всё равно’, although the register is sometimes a little simplistic and a wider range of these phrases would have enabled more effective structuring. There are a number of complex sentences and idioms and some successful examples of passive constructions (‘их аррестовали в Сибири’).

Overall


Overall, this is an effective essay which demonstrates the ability to analyse research undertake and has some original and interesting ideas. The candidate succeeds in gaining access to the higher Mark Ranges by sequencing the ideas within the essay well and using a range of appropriate lexis and more complex sentences.


Example 3 (The Siege of Leningrad)

Во вторая мировая война, семьдесять годы назад, Блокада Ленинграда начиналась. Сейчас это осень известный потому, что было один из длинее борбей в войне, но также очень неуспешный для немецских. Когда блокада закоичила, тысячи россияней умерли и Ленинград (сегодня зовут Санкт Петербург) был разрушен. Блокада продолился больше чем два года.

Гитлер выбирал разрушить Ленинград из-за того, что город был прежнмй столица России. Он верил, что немецкие выграли бы очень быстро, и поэтому не думал о проблемы, который у него было бы с борбём.

Несмотря на могущество Германии сторона, они не готовили для сопротивление из советского стороны. Посли Германия и Финландия закоичили транспорт между Ленинград и другие города в России, они нападали.

Германия исползовала помощь из Финладния, чтобы понимать сообщение между Россииские командующие. С этим помощь, они окружали город. Commentary on Example 3 (The Siege of Leningrad)


This candidate has clearly researched the Siege of Leningrad and offers a large body of knowledge to support the statements made in his / her essay. He / she shows understanding of the role which the siege played in the defeat of the German army in the Soviet Union and also the significance of the siege in the minds of the citizens of Leningrad. Although the candidate mentions Zhukov and other Soviet commanders, he / she was clearly not prepared to describe the role of one person in the Siege of Leningrad as required by the question on the examination paper. Although the essay contains a number of sweeping statements, it does effectively demonstrate the combination of factual knowledge and analysis required by the specification, e.g. ‘Гитлер выбрал разрушить Ленеинград из-за того, что город был прежняя столица России. Он верил, что немецкие выграли бы очень быстро и поэтому не думал о проблемах...’

Mark Range: 13-18


This essay is well planned and succeeds in sequencing the ideas effectively. It is an effective combination of factual knowledge and analysis. The ideas in the essay are well developed and assertions are usually supported by some kind of factual information. The conclusion, although difficult to follow as it is grammatically incorrect, is interesting and offers some ideas beyond simple description of the siege. At 222 words, the essay is slightly longer than the rubric specifies.

Mark Range: 7-8

Quality of Language

The candidate succeeds in communicating his / her ideas effectively although the there are a large number of grammatical errors in this essay. Inaccurate language and / or mother-tongue interference occasionally impede comprehensibility, e.g. ‘несмотря на могущество Германия сторона они не готовил для сопротивление из Советского стороны’. There is a good range of lexis appropriate to the topic, however. The candidate succeeds in using essay-type phrases to give structure to the essay, e.g. ‘несмотря на’, ‘однако’, ‘в конце концов’. There is some success in handling complex sentences, but the candidate shows he / she is unable to produce passive constructions and there is a lack of knowledge of the cases taken by certain prepositions.

Overall

Overall this is an interesting essay which clearly demonstrates that research has taken place and that the candidate is able to think originally. Its weakness is in the fact that it does not concentrate on the role of one person in the Siege of Leningrad and this means that it could not access the higher Mark Ranges Reading, Research and Understanding. Candidates must use their research and knowledge to address the specific question on the examination paper.


Example 4 (Neo-Nazi Groups in Russia)

Обсудите аспект современного русскоязычного общества, который вы изучали. Объясните, почему вы считаете его особенно важным.Discuss one aspect of modern Russian-speaking society which you have studied. Explain why you consider it to be particularly important.

Один вопрос, который я считаю очень важным в россиском обществе – ненацистские группировки. Более и более молодых людей в России становятся неонацистами и в России единственный есть 50 000 неонацистов.

Очевидно здесь большая проблема потому, что в 2006 по крайней мере 54 людей былы убиты неонацистскими группами и 466 пострадали физически. В 2006 президент Путин предупредил ненацисто в День Победы. Это показало, что этих вопрос надо быть решить из-за того, что даже президент Путин думает, что это пробдема.

Я читал, что в 2004 в Санкт Петербурге семь подростков скинхедов напали на таджикскую семью и убили 9-летнюю дквочку. Однако когда их поймали, их осудили за хулиганство и посадили в тюрьму на срок до 5 лет, это слишком лёгкое наказание за убийство. Я думаю, что правительство дольжно ввести закон о более сильном наказании расизма.

По-моему, чтобы предупреждать это правительство надо давать больше денег в местные молодёжные клубы и общежитие и эти подрости будут куда ходить. Я думаю, что это не трудно сделать если правительство хочет предупреждать угроза от этих организации.

Если правительство хочет оставаться руководителем России, оно должно думать больше о том, что оно будет делать для локальных общин, чтобы предупреждать рост неонацистских организаций.


Commentary on Example 4 (Neo-Nazi Groups in Russia)


This candidate’s essay shows evidence of reading and research and contains sufficient background information and factual knowledge. The candidate succeeds in demonstrating his / her understanding of the issues surrounding neo-Nazi groups in modern Russia. The essay also demonstrates the analytical approach required by the specification; the candidate is able to suggest ways in which the government should address the issue of neo-Nazi groups: ‘Если правительство хочет оставаться руководителем России, оно должно думать о том, что оно будет делать для локальных общин, чтобы предупреждать рост неонацистских организаций.’ The essay does not, however, suggest reasons for the rise of these groups or show an understanding of the political and social background to this issue.

This essay is well structured and the candidate’s ideas are developed well. Assertions made by the candidate are supported by factual evidence and the candidate’s introduction relates the issue which he / she has studied to the specific question on the examination paper. Throughout the essay the candidate suggests his / her own viewpoint and offers ideas for ways in which the problem could be solved. The essay progresses neatly from the introduction to the conclusion. The essay is 194 words long, which is within the rubric.

Mark Range: 7-8

Quality of Language

This candidate communicates his / her ideas very effectively in Russian. Although not flawless, the essay is very accurate and employs a varied range of appropriate lexis and complex structures. Case endings and verb agreements are generally correct and the candidate has a good command of Russian syntax. The candidate successfully uses passive and impersonal constructions, e.g. ‘Однако когда их поймали, их осудили за хулиганство и посадили в тюрьму на срок до 5 лет’. The essay demonstrates a relevant specialist vocabulary uses a range of essay-type phrases and reads fluently.

Overall

Overall, this is a very good essay which succeeds in combining factual information, evidence of research and understanding, clear planning and effective communication in Russian. The weakness of this essay is the slightly simplistic approach to the issue of neo-Nazi groups and the failure of the candidate to relate this to wider social or political events.


Example 5 (Terrorism in Russia)



В современной России терроризм очень большая проблема для всех. Много людей погибнули от терроризма вр время конца двадцатого века. Например террористы убили многих людей в маленькой школе в Чечне.

Чечня была очень огурчился из-за того, что молодые люди главным образом розраст четыре – восемь лет. И они смотрели, так их родители убили. Террористы в Чечне были из России.

Другие формы терроризма включают мусульманский терроризм в России. Россиян думают, что мусульманский терроризм очень опасный для национальной бозопасность. Банда включают Ал-каида, Муджахадин, Джихад, Талибвн и много больше. Однако большинство мусульманских людей критиковали правительство России для их эксцентрических тактики для предупреждение терроризма.

В 1999 почти триста людей убили в бомбе квартир. Было пять бомбенна и там был уже Дагестанская война поэтому Россия начала вторую чеченскую войну. Пять бомби были взрывлись в Москве и две другие городы во время десять дня в сентябре 1999. Бомба остановливались взрывались после сходный бомба был разеружали в сентябре 1991. Владимир Путин заказывал воздушные бомби Грозня.


Я считаю, что это очень важно думать о терроризме почтой, потому что бомбенна случается в современной России.

Commentary on Example 5 (Terrorism in Russia)


This candidate’s essay shows some knowledge about the terrorist threats which affect Russia and the Russian-speaking world. He / she gives a range of examples of terrorist acts which have occurred and suggests some reasons for this. The essay shows some evidence of research and factual information. The candidate’s understanding of the background to terrorism and the Russian government’s attempts to deal with the terrorist threat is not as well developed and the essay is chiefly descriptive. The candidate suggests that the issue of terrorism is important because bombings are happening in contemporary Russia but does not relate this to the reasons for the terrorist acts carried out by the different groups which he / she has mentioned.

Mark Range: 7-12


This candidate makes some attempt to organise the material into an essay which addresses the question on the examination paper. The scope of the essay is two wide for 200 words, however, and so the essay becomes chiefly descriptive as the candidate attempts to mention all the terrorist acts and groups of which he / she has knowledge. The candidate has some success in describing the terrorism as a result of the problems in Chechnya but does not develop this fully. The essay would be much improved by linking the actions of one terrorist group to the actions of the Russian government. At 192 words, the essay is within the rubric.

Mark Range: 3-4

Quality of Language

The candidate succeeds in communicating his / her ideas on some level throughout the essay. There are a large number of grammatical errors, however, and overall the impression is of a limited linguistic range. There are some successful attempts at complex structures, although many of the sentences are basic. The candidate does have a range of subject-specific lexis at his / her disposal and is able to use essay-type structures effectively.

Overall


Overall, this candidate clearly shows an interest in and knowledge of this subject. There is a range of factual information demonstrated in the essay and the candidate is able to structure the information. The weakness of this essay is its attempt to deal with too wider topic within the 200 word limit; candidates should be advised to narrow their topic to suit the specific question on the examination paper.


Example 6 (Russian Football)



Российская национальная футбольная команда начинала в 1991, после распада СССР. Они играли свой первый матч против Мексика и они выиграли 2-0. Футбол в России был никогда лучше в мире но они стали довольно знаменитыми в «Евро 2008». Россия побивал любитецы соревнования , Голландии.

Много российских игрок стали очень знаменитыми от этой победы. Например Андрей Аршавин и Роман Павлученко. Эти игроки двигали от российская лига – англиийская лига. Это делал российский футбол очень знаменитый.

По-моему, футбол в России очень важно потому что содавает национальный гордость. Когда молодёжь в России видят победу своей страны, они моут быть гордые.

Также футболисты могут быть образец для подражания для молодых людей. Если молодёжь видят, как некоторые люди были бедные, может быть, но сейчас стали знаменитыми и богатыми, молодые люди будут может быть работать лучше.

Некоторые люди стали больше знаменитые от футбола, особенно Роман Абрамович. Вообще, раньше он стал владелец Челси, немного людей по миру слышали имя Абрамович. Но сейчас, он очень знаменитый и он воплощение «новая Россия».


Я думаю, что футбол в России стал важно, потому что это возрождение России и она изображение.

Commentary on Example 6 (Russian Football)


This essay shows evidence of research into Russian football and also the role which football plays in Russian society. The candidate clearly has some knowledge of the Russian national team and is able to use factual knowledge to back up some of the statements which he / she makes. There is some evidence of an analytical approach, as the candidate suggests the relationship between football and national pride: ‘по-моему футбол в России очень важно, потому что создавает нацональный гордость. Когда молодёжь в России видят победу своей страны, они могут быть гордые.’ Despite this, and the candidate’s attempts to suggest that footballers can be an example for young people, the essay is not as successful in presenting a coherent argument for the role played by football in Russian society in particular. Some of the candidate’s assertions are not backed up by evidence or factual information.

Mark Range: 13-18


The candidate is able to organise the material in this essay into coherent paragraphs but overall the essay does not build these paragraphs together to support the conclusion at the end. The candidate makes a number of relevant points but also some points which, while relating to football in Russia, do not support his / her overall argument that football is contributing to Russia’s regeneration. The essay would have benefited from careful planning beforehand as there is clearly enough factual information to support the argument. At 179 words, the essay is within the rubric.

Quality of Language

The candidate succeeds in communicating his / her ideas effectively although the there are a number of grammatical errors in this essay. There are a number of errors in verb agreements and case endings. Inaccurate language and / or mother-tongue interference only occasionally impede comprehensibility. There is a range of lexis appropriate to the topic, however, and the candidate succeeds in using essay phrases to enable him / her to structure the essay.

Overall

Overall, this essay is effective on some levels – it suggests some ways in which football in central to modern Russian society. The candidate has knowledge and understanding of the topic. The weakness here is that the essay is not well planned and that the candidate does not use facts to support his / her assertions.


Example 7 (Alcoholism in Russia)



Один аспект современного русскоязычного общества, который я изучала, был алкоголизм в России.

Алкоголизм – это огромная проблема во всем мире, и в том числе в России. Учёные считают, что есть много причин алкоголизма: стресс, проблемы отсутстве друзей, семьи, работы, плохая компания, пьющие родители и другие.

На сегоднящий день, по данным медицинской статистики, в России 2,8 миллион тяжедых пьяниц – это 2% населения страны. Доля россиян, регулярно употребляющих алкогольные напитки: составляет 76%.

Алкоголизм в России – очень важный из-за того, что количество молодых людей, которые начинают алкоголь растёт и растёт. Например средний возраст, когда регулярно начинают употреблять алкоголь в России составляет 14 лет. Поэтому это очень большая проблема потому, что это очень плохая для здоровья людей.

Это интересный, что советские лидеры, например Махаил Горбачёв, не были успешные в запрете алкоголизма в России. В 1985 году был введён сухой закон. Это показывает, что лидеры СССР недавали помощь для людей, которые пристастились алкоголь.

Это положительные шаги к решеннию проблемы. Мне кажется, что алкоголизм очень важно – особенно в России потому, что если проблема не решить, проблема алкоголизма в будущем ухуждится, и приведёт к тяжёлым последствиям для всей нации.

Я думаю, что российское правительство должно вводить обязательый осмотр. Это может помочь некоторым людям не стать алкоголиками.


Commentary on Example 7 (Alcoholism in Russia)


This essay demonstrates that the candidate has undertaken research into the area of alcoholism in Russian and in the former Soviet Union. The candidate succeeds in using factual knowledge to support his / her assertions that alcohol is a significant problem and relates this to Russia as opposed to discussing the general nature of alcoholism. Statistics are used well to back up the candidate’s points. Although there are grammatical errors, the essay shows understanding of why the bans on alcohol introduced by Gorbachev did not succeed: ‘лидеры СССР не давать помощь для людей, которые пристраститься алкоголь.’ The candidate offers evidence to support his / her comments that Russia needs to take further measures to prevent people becoming alcoholics. There is some simplistic treatment of why alcoholism is an issue for people today, however.

This essay is generally well organised and the material is used well to support the argument. The essay divides into a discussion of the issues of alcoholism in Russia, which is chiefly descriptive, and the efforts made in Soviet times to curb alcoholism. The second of these areas is perhaps the more interesting and the essay would have benefited from further development of the point that it is clear that the Soviet attempts failed because they did not provide support for alcoholics. At 203 words, the essay is within the rubric.

Mark Range: 5-6

Quality of Language

This essay is grammatically strong in some areas and weak in others. Where the candidate has clearly pre-learned sections of text, there are few errors, but in other areas there are frequent errors in verb agreements and case endings. The candidate uses some complex sentences and the range of subject-specific lexis is impressive. Structures are usually well handled and inaccuracy only occasionally impedes comprehensibility.

Overall

Overall, this essay is an interesting introduction to some of the issues surrounding alcoholism in Russia. The most interesting point, which is why previous attempts to curb alcoholism have not succeeded, is not developed sufficiently. Candidates should ensure that the stating of large amounts of factual detail does not prevent them from exploring their own interpretation of these facts.

Много людей говорят, что рассказ «Первая любовь» - автобиографическое произведение Тургенева. Сам Тургенев сказал, что «Первая любовь» был самый автобиграфический из всех его рассказов и из-за этого, самый интересный персонаж в рассказе – Владимир, центральная фигура и рассказчик повести.

В рассказе Тургенева, Владимир – 16-летний молодой человек, который первы раз влюбляется в девушку, Зинаиду. Писатель очень поэтически описывает чувства Владимира к Зинаиде и читатель узнает много о том, как это для молодого человека, когда он влюбляется , через слова Владимира. В рассказе, Тургенев нам показывает много аспектов подросткой жизни и мне кажется, что проблемв Владимира тоже самые, как проблемы подростков сегодня.

В начале рассказа, Владимир обычный 16-летний подросток – он думает о любви и о девушках, но он точно не понимает, что такое любовь. Во время рассказа, Владимир становится больше и больше влюблённый к Зинаиде и он делает всё, что она хочет. Он мечтает, что он спасает её, хотя когда он видет её, он не знает, что он хочет сказать. Вдадимир даже прыгает от стены, когда Зинаида ему приказывает.

По-моему, Владимир интересный персонаж, потому чио, хотя он слабый, мы видем, как он меняется во время рассказа. Тургенев успешно показывает, что это такое быть в любовь, когда тебе 16 лет.


Commentary on Example 8 (Первая любовь – И. С. Тургенев )


This candidate’s essay shows some insight into the character of Vladimir in Turgenev’s novella Первая любовь. The candidate has clearly read the story and is able to use his / her knowledge to give an accurate portrayal of the character of Vladimir. The candidate’s understanding of the novella is a little superficial and the essay does not go into detail surrounding Vladimir’s maturity, or lack of it, during the story. The essay does draw on some secondary interpretations, e.g. suggesting that Turgenev’s story is autobiographical, although there is no real mention of the historical or social context of the story. The candidate offers some ideas as to why Vladimir is an interesting character, and mentions the universality of the experience of young love, although does not mention Vladimir’s relationship with his father.

Mark Range: 19-24


This essay is generally well organised and points are made with reference to events in the story. The candidate uses his / her reading to back up a wider interpretation of the character’s motivations. The first half of the essay is, for the most part, a general description of the story and so takes up space which could have been used to explore the character in more detail. The conclusion is a successful adaptation of a more general conclusion on the nature of Turgenev’s story. At 194 words, the essay is within the rubric.

Mark Range: 7-8

Quality of Language

This candidate succeeds in communicating his / her points effectively in Russian. There are some errors, although these rarely impede comprehensibility. There is a good range of lexis and structures although this candidate would benefit from having a range of phrases to use in a literary essay at his / her disposal. There are a number of complex sentences and these are handled well. The essay reads fluently.

Overall

Overall, this is an effective literary essay at this level. It treats the story somewhat superficially in parts but fulfils the brief given by the question on the examination paper. Candidates should be aware that they will need to address the specific


question on the paper and should be prepared to adapt their material so that they do not waste space.
