Aprs un an dactivit relle, OSP fait le point. Evaluer le chemin parcouru, lechemin encore parcourir, prendre du recul par rapport au champ gnral deldition et de lart et concevoir les enjeux de cet espace de libert que OSP sestarrog, tels sont les diffrents points que cette auto-interview aborde.

P.B. : Quelle image chacun dentre nous a-t-il de cette collection et quereprsente selon nous, plus gnralement, cette collection dans lechamp de lart actuel ? Quelle est la spcificit de ce collectif que nousnarrtons pas de faire grossir et comment nous lgitimons-nous ?

C.B. : La premire chose observer est la manire exponentielle dont leprojet se dveloppe.

M.H. : Cest trs naturel comme mouvement.

S.G. : On peut prendre le point de vue du cynique et dire que, dans lamesure o chaque artiste aime se montrer, le livre lui donne unepossibilit de le faire. En mme temps, nous lui offrons un lieu de

travail, un lieu de libert o il dcide totalement de ce quil veut. Cetteentreprise fait donc plaisir tout le monde, nous tout dabord, heureuxdavoir des uvres de qualit et lartiste parce cela lui permet de faireune uvre et en mme temps de la diffuser, en cela OSP rpond plusieurs attentes. Noublions pas, aussi, que lartiste devient son tourditeur.

After a year of substantial activity, OSP is taking the time to reflect back, and tostate where we stand in the field we have emerged in. The time to evaluate theroad taken, and the road left to travel, the future of the company. We arestepping back, trying to better understand our place in the general realm ofedition and art, as well as the stakes of the position which we have claimed. Inthis interview we will touch on these different points; our past, our future, andwhat is at hold.

P.B. : What image do each of us hold of this collection, and what, in a

more general sense does it represent in the field of contemporary art?What is the specific feature of this publishing house, which has enabledits continuous growth , and how do we legitimize our work here?

C.B. : The first thing to observe is the exponential rate in which thisproject is developing.

M.H. : Its been quite a natural progression.

S.G.: We can take the cynical point of view and say that, in the sensewhere every artist wants to be seen, a book grants him this possibility.

But, at the same time, we offer him a work place, a place where he has theliberty to decide what he wants to do with it. In this way, everyone ishappy. The company, first and foremost, because of the quality worksproduced, but the artist as well, because this allows him to create, and

MARK THEMANNMUSEUM OF INSTALLATION

Using the Trojan horse of orthodoxy, in the form of content and index,the Museum of Installation opens up to a multivalent layering and

circularity. No matter where one enters the book, via the obese presenceof an indexical structure, one is continuously guided back to itsbeginning section. On second glance, it could be said that thisbeginning, evidences a certain ambivalence, regarding authenticity,authorship, place and time, while citing all the bridges crossing theSeine, in the city of Paris.The remaining 80% of the book, is devoted to a superstructure ofmultiple indexes. Such an overbearing structure, may give cause forsuspicion, regarding the content it seeks to reference. If some deem the

contents of this index, necessary, for both subjectivity and ahermeneutic of its gestures, maybe this Trojan horse can be co-opted, toinvestigate the possibility of the provisional, oscillating within the coversof a museum reference.In this spirit, the Museum of Installation continues certain conceptualstrategies, employed in my previous works, such as Solvitur AmbulandoTokyorama 1 (Palais de Tokyo, Paris 2001) and Metronom (Museumof Installation, London 1999).M.T.

Mark Themann was born in Australia in 1958. Since 1984, his works have beenrealized in Galleries, Museums and other sites, in Australia, Europe and theUSA. In a practice not delimited by artistic disciplines or media, his works havetaken the form of performances, site-specific projects/Installations, 2D and 3Dworks, collaborations, print and book works.

The column is the only architectonic elementto interrupt the aesthetic and angular 'void'of the larger exhibition space in GalleriaMassimo De Carlo. This element is thus the'pivot' of a particular movement, which

'virtually' rotates and transfers the columnuntil it is 'sculpted' in the other smallerexhibition space. Removing the obviouslyfixed nature of the column, the movement

renders it 'mobile', rotating in a real andproper spinning motion within the 'limited'element of space. Thus, the column is no

longer a 'rigid' element, but becomes a 'soft'phenomenon and the centripetal forcearound it produces centrifugal force whichpervades the space around the action.
