La Gacilly. This is where it all began. And this is where the story of the Yves Rocher Brand continues. On the top of a hill between sky and Earth, overlooking the village, the Eco-Hotel Spa was created to provide a place to experience the Yves Rocher Brand in all its uniqueness. Experience the inspiring relationship with nature in wonder and respect. At first I dreamt of this place. I wanted to make it different,

Set an example without preaching, Make sense with no nonsense,Give pleasure without contradiction, But mostly inspire enthousiasm. Inspire respect, perseverance, commitment.

It is the vocation of La Grée des Landes to show that we can stop the habit of taking without giving back, we can develop a place of well-being differently, sustainably, lovingly - for Nature.

Experience Nature

Experience Nature

Here, we write 'Earth' with a captal 'E'. On this tiny piece of Earth our project took root, and on this exceptional site of 10 hectares, La Grée des Landes came into existence. 29 rooms, a restaurant, a spa and conference facilities are all nestled on this green hillside.

A new art of natural living

La Gree des Landes invites you to make yourself at home in its warm, guesthouse atmosphere. Live at the rhythm of nature and the seasons, from dawn to dusk, from spring to winter. Ramble through the 10 hectares of prairie and forests, discover the changing colours and light. Take in the scents of humus, dew, cut grass, wild flowers, granite, schist, moss, bark, heather and fern...

The first completely ecological hotel spa, La Grée des Landes

was conceived in La Gacilly,

the birthplace of the Yves Rocher Brand.

Architecture, decoration, spa, gastronomy…

everything is designed for you to enjoy a unique experience with nature.

Natural insulationAll of the 29 rooms in La Grée des Landes are covered in grass rooves. Providing excellent insulation, they reduce the variation of temperature and contribute to substantial energy saving. Combined with other low-thermal-mass building materials, the grass rooves eliminate the need for air conditioning in summer and limit heat loss in winter, thus reducing heating requirements. A true acoustic barrier, they absorb surrounding noise on average from 15 to 20 decibels more than traditional rooves, providing assured sound-proofing.

Reeds to purify waterA filtering garden planted with reeds, filters and treats all the waste water from la Grée des Landes. This natural, ecological waste treatment bassin consumes no energy and uses no chemical products, achieving an excellent purifying performance. After a preliminary screening process, the waste water passes through several plant and sand filters which treat organic material containing nitrogen and other diverse pollutants. Ditches planted with rushes and water irises promote infiltration of the treated matter into the ground via the roots and into the air by dispersion and evapotranspiration. This odourless process requires very little maintenance, and while low in cost, is a feature of the landscape rich in biodiversity.Materials of High Environmental Quality

certified « High Environmental Quality », La Grée des Landes is committed to the ecological management of energy, water, waste and maintenance.

Double glazing with reinforced thermal insulation on all the doors and windows allows light to enter while maintaining a uniform temperature indoors, limiting heating consumption in winter.Walls most exposed to temperature variation have been built with thermostone, an energy-saving building material containing natural raw materials (water, sand and lime). This material combines the characteristics of stone and of thermal insulation through the air bubbles captured inside. Hemp has been used in the bedrooms and dining rooms for its natural insulation properties.

Brittany sun and wood as heat sources35 m2 of solar panels on the roof of the kitchen provide the energy source for pre-heating water. They capture solar energy through a liquid heat-conducting medium and cleanly change it into heat with no emission of greenhouse gasses. Two wood-burning heaters use waste wood from the forest of Brocéliande and the surrounding forests to provde heat for all the rooms of La Grée des Landes. By using this wood residue from the maintenance of the forest, we participate in maintaining and improving its health while encouraging a local job-creating industry. The greenhouse brings together all the fundamentals of bioclimatic architecture : it captures, stores and distributes sunlight, reducing the need of heating by 15 to 30 % in winter.

Water from the sky to the EarthRainwater recovered from the rooves of all the buildings is used to water the gardens and maintain the outdoor terraces. This means that 300m3 of water recovered in the storm basin is saved every year.

A water-saving bathroomNatural light filters into the bathroom by a sliding wooden partition, revealing the character and authenticity of rough wood and schist. Taps are equipped with thermostatic mixing valves. Water temperature and pressure commands act immediately, reducing consumption. Without reducing water pressure, the eco-showerhead with its integrated aerator reduces water flow from the usual 20 litres to only 9 litres per minute.

Reducing wasteGlass dispensers of Yves Rocher shower gel with organic hamamelis and Yves Rocher eco-certified « I Love My Planet » shampoo replace individual toiletries. You are invited to participate in the Eco-Hotel's recycling efforts by sorting your waste into non-recyclable products and recyclable items such as papers, magazines, cardboard, glass and plastic bottles and jars.

chef holds the guide Michelin « 2 fourchettes » award for the cuisine of les Jardins Sauvages

Chef Gilles La Galles, former student of Bernard Loiseau and Gilbert Lecoze, has been chef/owner of several fine Parisian restaurants, including La Barrière de Clichy (traditional French cuisine ), and l'Aristippe (specializing in fish). Originally from Vannes, in Brittany, he decided to return to his native region in 2005. Since the creation of Les Jardins Sauvages, he has managed a staff of 6 cooks and 5 waiters and waitresses.

Eat local, organic, gourmet food. At the restaurant Les Jardins Sauvages, where nature meets gastronomy, our guests « eat local ». Thanks to our strong relationships with local meat and vegetable producers, bakers and beekeepers, professionals who work with their precious knowledge and respect for the environment, you can enjoy a culinary experience «made in Brittany*». Healthy and gastronomical, our food is prepared respecting the seasons and the environment. Our talented chef uses principally organic products and produce freshly picked from the kitchen garden and orchard of La Grée des Landes to create a dining experience as appealing to the eyes as to the palate.

The kitchen garden nearbyA kitchen garden adjacent to the restaurant provides extra fruit, vegetables and herbs : artichokes, courgettes, tomatoes, strawberries, red and black currants, parsley, chives, dill,...For the curious, the kitchen garden also plays an instructive role with its wide diversity of local Breton vegetables. As a sentinel and laboratory of ideas and quality, the kitchen garden allows Gilles to test and grow only vegetables which can thrive in the Breton climate.

Great dining Try our cuisine « made in Brittany » : healthy and delicious food harvested and prepared respecting the seasons and nature. The talented chef Gilles Le Gallès will delight your senses with his culinary creations made with local, freshly-picked organic products.

in the wingsThanks to a double-flow ventilation system, 70 to 90% of the energy contained in the hot air from the kitchen is used to heat incoming air, representing a significant reduction in heating consumption.

The dishwasher has innovative washing and heat-recovery systems which also significantly reduce consumption of electricity and rinse water. Equipped with a skylight, the kitchen is a pleasant and environmentally friendly place to work. The Chef has chosen electric kitchen equipment which does not use any fossil fuels.

3 composting and recycling : a second life for kitchen waste

Organic waste from the kitchen such as fruit and vegetable peelings are composted with other green waste from the garden. This ecological process naturally produces rich soil ideal for our needs. Used grease is recovered by a professional recycling firm : purified and recycled, it can be used as heating fuel.

An organic kitchen gardenThe restaurant respects the rules of organic production of the fruit and vegetables in its garden. It maintains its certification by an annual inspection. No chemical products are used in the garden, weeding is mainly done by hand. Only natural fungicides and insecticides authorized in organic production are used to control pests. Fruits and vegetables are harvested naturally ripe, when nutritional value and taste are at their peak.

The water cycle. The water used in the Spa is recovered and used to flush the toilets in the hotel rooms, saving more than 1m3 of water at La Grée des Landes every day.

To limit the use of chlorine, the Spa water is pretreated with ultraviolet waves. Used spa water is purified of chlorine by an active charcoal filtering system, then used to flush the hotel toilets, finally flowing into the filtering garden.

A heat pump dehumidifies the air in the Spa and also reduces the energy needed for heating.

The calories extracted from the air are used to preheat incoming air and the water in the Spa.

• An Eco-Hotel for Birds !La Grée des Landes, in collaboration with the League for the Protection of Birds, is committed to preserving the current biodiversity and to increasing the potential for inviting and sustaining local fauna and flora.Planting fruit trees and flowering plants, maintaining hedges, providing prairie land, excluding the use of herbicides, creating a pond and providing houses for birds and bats... are some of the positive measures we have taken to stem global loss of biodiversity.

• 50 000 bees in the service of Beauty20 kilos of honey are harvested every year from the 5 hives on the site. Not only do our 50,000 bees provide the honey used in the cuisine of Les Jardins Sauvages, but with other pollinising insects, they ensure the reproduction of more than 70% of the plants grown here. cages for free birdsby Jean-Jacques Pigeon

With his poetic birdhouse/cages hung on the top of flexible masts, Jean-Jacques Pigeon questions our relationship with the time passing through our so fragile lives. He invites the past as well as the present, the here and the elsewhere. Their apparent fragility contrasts with the solid edifices built by and for men and which we imagine permanent. If you let your imagination go, you may see bits of colour flying off into the blue sky…

The spirit of the heath by Jean-claude Lambert

This monumental work in granit by Jean-Claude Lambert offers a breath, a place of meditation in the heart of the heath, inspiring and nurturing the most splendid of encounters: that of man with nature. For this sculptor, artistic creation is a cosmic transmission connecting people through a fraternal bond. Connecting us all, art is the great architect of hope and life.

Wild grasses and crazy grassesby Jean-Noël Reichel

Through travels and encounters full of happy, simple moments, Jean-Noël Reichel maintains a quest for the identity of people and the threads they weave with nature. Here, a virtuoso in the play of light, he passionately follows the unique movements of grass. From simple grass to earth, nature dresses herself in poetry.

Art & NatureUniversally appealing, environmentally responsible, peaceful, La Grée des Landes strives to nurture and promote artistic expression. Because we believe that the art of the 21st century is yet to come, and that today’s artists are more than ever engaged in the struggle for the preservation of the our planet, La Grée des Landes naturally provides a meaningful venue for contemporary art. During your visit, discover the works which bear witness to the wonder and fragility of nature and peoples.

Rootmen by Pierre de Vallombreuse

In his worldwide travels Pierre de Vallombreuse meets and photographs people who live in a close relationship with nature, totally dependent on her for their survival. With each environmental change, each attempt to settle or ghettoise them, their way of life and culture is altered, their vulnerability intensified. These photographs propose a reflection on the mutation of nature and a look at the identity of primary peoples.

Portraits of Planters by Patrick Wallet

The Yves Rocher Foundation / Institut de France has pledged to plant 50 million trees around the world in conjunction with the "Plant for the Planet" campaign led by the United Nations programme for the Environment. Patrick Wallet has photographed men, women and children from diverse countries and cultures the world over who have participated in the replanting: a collective engagement and a message of hope.

Burnt trees by Philippe Pastor

Created from the trunks of trees burnt in the fire which devastated the forest of La Garde Freinet in the Var region of France, "Burnt trees" by Philippe Pastor illustrates the urgent need to protect the environment. Art can be the force uniting people in thought and action. The artist is involved in the United Nations Programme for the Environment and in the campaign "Plant for the Planet", with his solemn and emblematic sculptures.

The bronze bird by Franz Krajcberg

The first work in bronze by Frans Krajcberg, this sculpture is a cry of revolt against the destruction of the Amazonian forests. The Brazilian artist gives new life to burnt trees, letting them speak for the brutality and indifference of men to a threatened Earth. The work, tragic in its inspiration, is not in itself sad. With large palms, it opens its arms in a welcoming gesture, its wings as a bird of happiness. Like the Phoenix, out of ashes it returns to life.

Assemblagesby Jean Lemonnier

Through his original sculptures created in his studio in La Gacilly, Jean Lemonnier celebrates Nature: his guide and passion. His travels in distant countries as a marine painter have provided ample inspiration for his creations. He models with clay, sculpts in bronze, carves wood and stone, or, as in these pieces, he assembles scrap iron.
