    WWW.MAXMUSCLE.COM JUNE 2012

    I HAVE BEEN

training at Geared4 Speed in Gar-land, Texas since

January. The owner,Jerry Bullit, is justthe nicest man. Hewill push you toyour limits and thensome but, he's soencouraging everystep of the way, somuch so that youwould never want

to say you can't do what he's asking you to do!!Jerry trains all kinds of people, but he works closely

with elite athletes, too. I am certainly not an elite athlete,

but thanks to Jerry's training I'm faster, stronger andI feel so much better about myself than I did in January.

I have incredible respect for the elite athletes I've metat Geared 4 Speed and for others, such as Team MaxMuscle's Ryan Winther, a 28-year-old pro golfer who issetting records for ball speed and distance hit. Ryan ison our cover this month and you can read about himon pages 20-22. He was kind enough to share somepointers to help you goers out there to improve yourswing and get longer drives.

We have other athletes featured in this issue (pages32-34) and they all show that hard work, dedication andthe right supplementation are the keys you need to get

to the top. They also show as do the athletes Jerryhas trained for their NFL football pro day that integrityis everything. So many athletes today are lacking it. Butthese guys give me hope!

If you have a sports-related injury that's keeping youfrom playing your best, be sure you read about theadvances in sports medicine on pages 16-18. From stemcells to prolotherapy to using Platelet Rich Plasma, yourinjuries and pain could be a thing of the past.

This month we focus on athletes and sports, but ifyou have never been an athlete, it doesn't mean youcan't be. I would like to encourage you to get out andtry something new, maybe take a commnity college

physical education class and learn how to play a newsport. You never know until you try how much fun youwould have! Be sure to read the article on how to build afoundation for tness success (pages 28-30) to help giveyou the elements you need to start something new.

While we're on the topic of building foundations, MaxMuscle's Core 4 can be your foundation for health andwellness. Find out about what it can do for you on pages44-46.

    321PoundsLostGeorge has been a

customer in Stockton (Calif.) for a

number of years. After years of struggling

with his weight, George decided to have

gastric bypass surgery. George has gone

from 526 pounds to a current weight of205 pounds. Even though George had the

surgery, he has had to start to exercise

and watch his diet even more closely.

    Having the surgery is not a quick fix;

you have to be disciplined and want to

keep the weight off. George is off all

    medications and feels and obviously

    looks like a different person.

George uses High 5 protein because

    it's a time-released protein and stays in

his system for up to 4 hours. He takes

Max Vit-Acell, a liquid vitamin by Max

Muscle, because of its great absorptionability. George also uses Liquid Egg

Whites, which he gets at the Stockton

    Max Muscle Sports Nutrition store.

After knowing George for at least 8

years, I am truly happy and proud of

him. Keep up the great work George!

MAX CLEANSE & LEAN (MCL) offers a

solution to digestive issues as well as a way to

remove excess water and waste from the body.

You work out hard to stay fit and you want to

see the results every day, thats what MCL can

help do. MCL addresses the water and

bloating that many of us hold just under our

skin, in our hips, abs, legs and feet. MCL helps

naturally release this excess fluid and flush it

from the system to help drop weight quickly

and lean up. MCL also helps promote

regularity, which is essential to health.

If youre backed up, MCL will get you back on

track and in the process help you to lose

    unwanted pounds!

Im sure that you have all heardabout cleansing and detoxifyingyour body. The rst and foremost

step involves the cleansing of yourdigestive system. And it makes sensebecause so many toxins that lead tohealth problems start in the colon. Itsalso very simple to cleanse your colon.Secondly, there are many herbs andfoods that help cleanse your internalorgans, primarily your liver, the body's

lter. Here are some great tips to helpget you started:

1Eat plenty of ber. I love to addpsyllium husks to my shakes and

cereal for a great high-quality ber.Fresh fruits and vegetables, legumesand whole grain brown rice are excel-lent sources of ber to include in yourmeal planning. Black beans are high inantioxidants and an excellent source ofnatural ber.

2Cleanse and protect the liver. Youcan do this by taking herbs such

as dandelion root, burdock and milkthistle and drinking green tea. Beets, radishes, artichokes, cabbage, brocco-li, spirulina, chlorella and seaweed areexcellent internal detoxifying foods.Citric fruits such as oranges and lem-ons contain high amounts of vitamin C,which helps the body produce glutathi-one, which helps the liver function.

3Sip on it. Try to get in two quartsof warm lemon water throughout

the day. Add a fresh-squeezed lemonto each quart. Warm water helps break

    FOREVERYOUNG

up intestinal gunk, and lemon is a greatcleansing fruit that detoxies and literallyhelps scrub out your intestinal walls.

4Breathe deeply. This will allow oxy-gen to circulate more completely

through your system. This is why exer-cise is so important, because it forcesyou to breathe deep, which helps de-toxify your body and burn fat for energy!

5Sweat it out. There is nothing like agood sweat to help your body elimi-

nate toxins. If you have access, then takeadvantage of a nice dry sauna sweat. Ifyou dont have a sauna available, thena slow jog on a hot day gets the sweatowing. Make sure that you hydrate withpure water afterward.

6Drink healthy shakes. Be sure yourshakes have plenty of fresh fruits and

vegetables to provide you with active/livenutrients to stimulate your digestive sys-tem. Its easier to get your recommendedservings of fruits and veggies per daywhen theyre added to a shake.

Here is one of my favorite cleansingshakes that I typically drink once or twicea day:

Red Rush Detoxifying Shake 20-24 ounces of water

    inch of grated ginger root

    1 golf ball sized beet

    cup fresh broccoli or spinach

1 teaspoon Max Muscle Essential Omega

    Lemon Zest

    1 whole peeled lemon

1 small red jalapeno pepper, seeds

removed (this is optional, but I actually

love the snappy taste those seeds give)

1 tablespoon of Max Muscle Organic Physil-

    lium Husk

scoop of MaxPro All Natural Protein

You May Be A Bonehead!Within the hollows of your bones, your marrow is busy making

red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets and creatingpluripotent stem cells. This type of stem cell has the ability

to mature into different types of cells/tissues as needed(and commanded) by the body. By removing a patients own

stem cells from their bone marrow and injecting them intoan injured joint, doctors are able to put stem cells to work

directly at the point where they are needed.

    Did You Stretch It

Too Far?Ligaments and tendons help your joints

bend, ex and maintain their strongsupport. Ligaments work with your

    muscles and tendons work with yourbones. Ligaments are like licorice ropes;

you can stretch them, but when you do,they will never return to their original

shape or provide the stabilization fora joint as they are designed to do. If

youve been out there giving it yourall, you might have gone too far!

Prolotherapy, a non-surgical ligamentand tendon reconstruction therapy that

encourages the growth of new tissue, may be an option for you, especiallyif you are prone to a repetitive action

type of injuries.Doctors using prolotherapy inject

a dextrose solution into the problemligaments or tendons. This causes

the body to use its own defensesystem to begin healing; it creates a

manageable amount of inammationin the weakened area so that the body

begins generating new tissue to repairor replace the weakened ligament or

tendon. The injection also increasesthe blood supply to the area so that

there are more nutrients and oxygenowing to the site to stimulate repair

and reduce pain.Generally, treatment requires a course

of four to six injections for success.David Tanton, PhD, a holistic nutritionist

immobilization of a joint which usuallylead to muscle imbalance and wasting using a concentration of your own

bloods platelets. Using a centrifuge, doctors who use Platelet Rich Plasma

(PRP) distill your blood platelets. Byltering and concentrating your blood,

the physician increases platelets andgrowth factors by about 400 percent.

Next the doctor injects your ownrichly concentrated plasma into the

implants. Cardiac surgeons are even using PRP to regenerate

heart tissue, but this is purely experimental right now.Dr. Centeno, who also uses PRP at his Colorado clinic for

advanced regenerative medicine, said, We use PRP to treatmild joint arthritis and smaller tears in the knee meniscus,

labrum, tendons and ligaments. These injections work well forthose applications and allow patients to remain active while

they use their bodys own resources to heal and avoid surgery.PRP helps the body heal itself with minimal or no scarring

and stops further degeneration of the tissue. So, if you havea sprain, strain, pull or tear, PRP may be a safe alternative for

    your sports injury.

Need Some Augmentation? For many years, cartilage damage meant steroid injections andarthroscopy, but these only held the degeneration of a joint

at bay. Some orthopedic doctors tried creating impermanentimplants but the technique didnt really catch on.

Now researchers have found a way to grow cartilage fromyour own tissue or to use some from a donor. In a specialized

laboratory, harvested cartilage is used to create millions ofnew cells. Your doctor then removes your defective cartilage

and covers the new gap with a special patch of periosteum, which is the thin connective tissue that is a sheath around

your bones. The freshly grown cartilage is implanted underthe patch where it grows and becomes a natural part of your

tissue. For a long time, surgeons have been looking for an

alternative to joint replacement that is more effective thansimply cleaning out the joint arthroscopically, said orthopedic

surgeon Brian Cole, MD, of Rush University Medical Centerin Illinois. They were also frustrated by traditional plastic

or metal implants that often wore out and never addressedthe cartilages true problem, causing degeneration. Now byimplanting your own farmed cartilage (or that from a donor),

you can actually treat the affected joint and not just put atemporary x in place.

Recovery time can take up to a year, but many physiciansare seeing success rates as high as 90 percent in their practice.

So, forget the implants! Use your own cartilage to regrow andregenerate your joints.MS&F

to be a likely next step in his sports career. Afterretiring from professional baseball in 2006, he

joined the work force and picked up golf. I had

a bunch of friends from baseball who golfed,he says. I got the bug and as someone who

has played baseball all his life, it was a naturaltransition.

Winther displayed unmistakable talent fromthe rst moment he stepped out on the course,

Step 1: Make sure to have a wide stance. Ultimatelythis will increase club head speed, accuracy, and distance.Having a wider base allows for more stabilization.

Step 2: Create plenty of width on the take away. If youare to get short and narrow, you will immediately get steepand over the top. Taking the club away wide will allow youto drop it from the inside and get even more speed thruimpact position

Step 3: At the top, balance is key here. Keep bent knees, head down, weight on back leg.

Step 4:The downswing needs to start with the lowerbody. You must uncoil from the top to create the most

efficient and fast swing. The hands and the club are thelast thing that moves towards the ball. By doing this, you

will create great "lag," which gives you the ability to hitthe ball further.

Step 5:For impact, make sure your eyes are on the ball, your head is still and stable and weight is now movingtowards lead leg.

Step 6: With your eyes and head still on the ball, beginyour follow through. Keeping your posture and balancethroughout the swing are very important. Your bodyfollows your head, so if you move your head off the ballbefore contact, you lose posture. Once this is lost, the ballis going short and sideways.

Dont get me wrong, I practice, Win-ther says, when asked if golf comes natu-

rally to him. You need a certain amountof hours to hone any skill. I always hit

the ball far, but it took some time to hit it

straight. But its not just Winthers tremendous

    athletic skill and professional sports

background that make him an exception-al golfer, says his coach, Dan Schwabe.

Hes got heart and plenty of persever-ance. Hes one of the hardest workers I

know, says Schwabe. Its unbelievablethat hes only been in the game for three

years. Hes compressed 10 years worthof learning in just a few short years.

    Perhaps what explains Winthers me-

teoric rise in professional golf is his un-

quenchable thirst for self-improvement.His intention to get better is unparal-leled, says Schwabe. For instance, while

the average golfer may nd one or two

things at a time he wants to work on,

Winther will focus on a multiple set ofskills at once.

You have to be careful as a teacher, not to overwhelm a student not to

overload them, Schwabe says. But withRyan, he says, You tell me what to do

and I will do it. Hell stop in the middle ofa lesson and ask me the specics. Ill give

him one, two, three or more things towork on and hell do it. He just overlaps,

overlaps, overlaps. Hes not afraid to takeon as much as youll give him.

One could say Winther was destined tobe the fastest golfer in history. As a young

boy, he had your typical boy hobbieslike playing with sticks and rocks (I

would see how far I could hit those rocks

with any stick I would nd, Wintherremembers), and started playing LittleLeague Baseball at age 5. He showed

    One of the biggest challenges

    in any tness journey is

    being consistent with your

    nutrition plan. Even though my

    nutrition coach, Adam Gilbreath

from Max Muscle Rockwall in Texas,

laid out my plan for me, I still had to

be responsible to plan and prepare

all of my meals. If I did not prepare,

it would have been extremely easy

to slip back into old habits and

that would have caused my planto fail. A couple of examples of not

preparing in the past, that would

later come back and haunt me,

    would be nding something quick

and easy to satisfy my hunger like

fast food, or grabbing a coke, candy

bar and a bag of chips.

Like most people, I have a very

    busy and demanding lifestyle. It

was not uncommon for me to go all

day without eating, and then late at

night I would eat everything I couldget my hands on. It does not matter

how much you exercise or how

much physical work you do, a poor

nutrition plan will be detrimental to

    any tness journey.

So, how can we avoid these

obstacles and make sure we stick

with our nutrition plan? I use

    MyMaxMuscle.com as a source for

inspiration and advice. One of my

    MAXFORMCHAMP

friends on the site, Troy Hall, is always

posting the statement Plan your work

and work your plan. One thing I had

to adjust to was eating six times aday. It was hard for me to understand

that eating more meant I could weigh

less. I did, however, like the idea of

being able to eat all the time, instead

    of starving myself.

Adam explained to me that eating

six small meals would serve two main

purposes for me. One, it would keep

my metabolism revved up, and two,

eating every three hours would help

keep me from being hungry. So, I had

to come up with a plan on how to getmy six meals in every day, and I had

    to work that plan.

One item I used to help me reach

my nutritional goals was the 6-pack

    meal bag from SixPackBags.com. This

bag is perfect for anybody no matter

what meal plan you are following. It

has six storage containers for all your

prepared meals, hot or cold. There

are sections to store your fruit, water

bottles and protein shakes. The top of

    the bag has individual compartments

that can hold all of your Max Muscle

    supplements, protein bars and more.

This is an invaluable tool that helps

keep my nutrition plan on track.

I also had a backup plan just in case

I failed to pre-prepare my meals. At

home and at work, I kept a supply of

    fresh vegetables, brown rice, sweet

potatoes, sh, chicken and turkey. I

had a George Foreman grill at work

PROWORKOUT By Jaime Cash, IFBB Pro

Now its time to focus on sculpting impressive arms by

targeting the biceps and the triceps. With this workout,

we change the angle of your hands and arms as well as the

position of your body to target more muscle fibers. These

are effective movements, but pay close attention to the PRO TIPS to

perfect your technique. Try compound sets to overload your muscles

and increase the intensity or super-set each exercise with a biceps/triceps mix!

1Standing Barbell/Cable Bicep Curl (Wide Grip) Get abarbell or attach a long straight bar to the low attachment of weight

stack. Move your hands wider than shoulder-width apart. Keep elbows in

at your sides. Slowly curl the bar up to shoulder height and slowly lower back

down. PRO TIP: Focus on negative (down) portion and keep constant tension

on the biceps and avoid touching legs. Do 3 sets of 10-12 reps

2Standing Cable Bicep Curl (Narrow Grip) Attach a straightbar or v-bar to the low attachment of weight stack. With under-hand

grip, move hands shoulder-width apart or slightly in. Keep elbows in at

your sides. Slowly curl arms up and down in front of you. PRO TIP: Focus onthe negative (down) portion without moving

upper arms. Moving grip closer together will

focus more on the outer portion of biceps.

Dont wrap thumb around bar. Do 3 sets of

    10-12 reps

3Single Arm Preacher BenchBicep Curl Get a dumbbell (DB) andposition yourself in front of the bench with

under-hand grip as shown. Keep your abs t ight

and back straight. Slowly curl the DB up until

it reaches your shoulder. PRO TIP: Dont lock

your elbow when you straighten your arm to

keep constant tension on your bicep. Dont wrapthumb around DB. Do 3 sets of 10-12 reps

4Standing Triceps Press Down(Knees Against Bench) Use awide bar and position your knees against

a bench at cables. Keep abs tight and position

your hands shoulder-width apart with elbows

in at your sides. Push downward and directly in

front of you as if you were pushing something

away. Squeeze triceps at the end of the range of

motion as arms extend. PRO TIP: Rotate your

wrists DOWNWARD to focus on the inner head

of the triceps. Do 3 sets of 12-15 reps

Having been a runner her entire life, Christine James

was a collegiate athlete and later ran on a Nike-

sponsored running team. However, one day she found

herself at a tness standstill. Over time, she felt shehad accomplished her running goals and longed to

nd a new sport. I wanted it to be a lifestyle for me, neversomething I pursued simply with a nal goal in mind, Jamessaid. Then one day I met a girl who changed my perspectiveon my future. She encouraged me to train for a bodybuilding

competition, something I had never even considered. At rst James didnt sign on, but as time passed she began to

tell herself, I can do that. Her condence in believing she couldbe successful allowed her to take on the new tness challengeand the discipline to see it through.

Preparing for her rst bodybuilding competition, James hasbeen compelled to make tness and healthy living a priority. While her eating plan has helped her to achieve her goals,

sticking to the plan has required mindfulness. She pays attention

to how food affects her body and energy levels and uses thatknowledge to help her train more effectively. This journey

has rejuvenated my passion. Ive surrounded myself with like-minded individuals who share similar goals and having their

support has been incredible.James has had the willingness to act with passion and

condence in an effort to pursue new tness goals. Her story

highlights the key to building a strong tness foundation. Likethe construction of a house, building a healthy lifestyle begins

from the ground up. The following principles represent thecornerstone for being successful in any tness journey.

1Prioritize fitness and healthy livingPeople are taught from an early age to give rst toothers. While this trait is important, those who have

mastered tness and health as a way of life recognize that inorder to best serve others, they must rst care for themselves.Researchers from Canadas University of Alberta found thatpeople who are active and t made exercise a priority. Theyconsider this to be non-negotiable.

This requires spending some time every day on self-improvement. Just as sleep, family and work are priorities

in life, tness must also be seen as apriority. Healthy people seek out creativeways to incorporate tness into theirdaily routine, to encourage others toparticipate and to embrace a lifestyle thatpromotes balance. Though it isnt alwayseasy, it is essential to achieving healthyliving. While t-minded individuals make

we time, they also make me time.

    2Be mindful

An innovator in the eld of mind-fulness-based psychology, Arnie

Kozak, PhD, said, mindfulness meanspaying attention with intent, interestand even fascination, and doing so with-out judgment. This is more than simplythinking about your tness. To be trulymindful, you must be intimately aware ofwhat your body is doing and how it is re-acting. Its the mind/body connection thatcreates that awareness.

Consider this: how many people doyou know who exercise all the time, butnever achieve their tness goals? DanyaHenig, dedicated student of yogaand owner of a Sumit Yoga Studio inScottsdale, Arizona, says that she was

drawn to the discipline initially for thephysical benets yoga offered. However,as I continued practicing, said Henig, Ibegan to see how it helped me mentally. Now I do it almost exclusively for thatreason. Making that connection helps mebetter achieve my tness goals.

The key to being mindful is focusingon your actions while they are beingdone. You must quiet the mind fromoutside distractions and pay attention toyour body. Gavin and Mcbreartys (2006)review of tness literature has shown that

connecting the mind and body leads topositive adherence to exercise and tnessgoals. Be completely present in yourworkout and commit to engaging yourmind and body. This will turn a routine30-minute workout into somethingtransformative.

3Act confidentGenerally, t people exude aunique condence. That condence

comes from believing in yourself. Healthyindividuals must think that they areworthy and important; that they deserveto feel that way. To achieve this sense of

condence, you should ensure your innervoice speaks with words of afrmation. In her best-selling book, The HappinessProject, Gretchen Rubin says that peopleshould act the way they want to feel. When you act condent, you begin tofeel condent and become capable ofachieving your tness goals.

4ignite pAssionIts one thing to be good atsomething, its another to love

doing it. Passion fuels action. Daniel Pink,

a member of the Washington SpeakersBureau and author of The Adventuresof Johnny Bunko, discusses the waysin which individuals make choices forfundamental and instrumental reasons.

You can make a decision for instrumentalreasons because you think it will leadto something else. Or you can makea decision for fundamental reasons because its something you want to do forits own sake. ... The people who reallyourish make decisions for fundamentalreasons.

them. Weave them into every aspect of

life. Imagine the person who embarks on a

tness journey and incorporates exercisesthey dont nd enjoyable. Will they reachtheir goal? Possibly. However, they might

not be able to sustain their pursuits forlong because they are not truly investedand enjoying what theyre doing.

    Tanya Pinto, an Ironman competitor

and athlete, says passion is what drivesher to get up in the morning and exercisebefore the sun comes up. I workedhard for many years to develop the skillsnecessary to successfully compete inthe races Ive done, but truly enjoyingwhat I was doing was what gave me thepersistence necessary to achieve my long-

    term goals.

In order to help identify passions, you

should consider what you enjoyed when

you were young. Reecting on these

memories often sparks ideas for activitiesto include in your tness activities.

5Build supportParticipation is motivated byenjoyment and the development

and maintenance of social supportnetworks, according to Allender et. al.(2006). Self-help books always seem to

include a chapter on building a network ofstrong healthy relationships. According tothe Mayo Clinic, these relationships allow

people to work through difcult times.

Motivated people often have a handful

of individuals in their lives theyd be willingto drop everything for if they were needed.

More importantly, they have people who

would be willing to do the same for them. You get what you give. Supporting othersis the key to having support reciprocated.Whether giving of your time or offeringsome kind words, the smallest gesturecan often be the most meaningful.

The quest for health and tnessrepresents a big change. As such, thejourney is often met with resistance andunforeseen obstacles. Long-time friends

suddenly nd themselves disengagedand often resentful of the changes theyperceive. At that point, a person mustdecide which relationships to keep andwhich to let go. Author Chris Guillebeauspeaks to this point when he discussesgatekeepers. These are individualswho limit choices and prevent othersfrom achieving their goals. Let go ofthese negative inuences. Seeking outsupportive networks of like-minded peopleand surrounding yourself with others whobelieve and share in common goals is the

    key to success.MS&F

Implementing theFive ElementsFitness is a journey. Its something

that people strive for and is

perfected over time. Even the people

most admired in the tness world

    have goals they continually work

toward. Whether you are starting at

the beginning or well on your way to

achieving a healthy life; keeping the

    principles of balance, mindfulness,

    condence, passion and support can

    help sustain motivation and achieve

success. Take the time now to build

a solid foundation to provide ongoing

    support in the future.

Though Ambrosia Andersonhas playedbasketball almost her entire life, it wasnt until

recently that she had an A-ha moment abouther sport. I had this epiphany, she says. Ireally love basketball. I know that sounds funny, but all my life I was told, Its something you doon the side, but now Im seeing the creativity ofit, the fact that every day is different you cantry a different move, you can affect your team indifferent ways and you can accomplish somethingdifferent each time.

For the 6-foot-1 Anderson, a former WNBAplayer who now plays forward for Elizur Netanyain the Israel Basketball Cup, this new appreciationfor basketball comes as she reects on her

globetrotting career. From Hawaii, Colorado andUtah to Minnesota and Connecticut and thenGreece, Portugal and now Israel, Anderson saysits been quite a ride.

It all started one afternoon in the fourth gradewhen she brought home a yer from school.

The local police athletic league was offering abasketball clinic for youngsters. Anderson, whowas always one of the tallest girls in class, wasintrigued. My mom said, Sure, you can do it, and I just fell in love, the 28-year-old Hawaiinative remembers.

A few years later, displaying obvious talent and

passion for the game, Anderson and her mothermoved to Colorado Springs to pursue basketball

At BYU, she appeared in 120 games and averaged 10.7 pointsper game (PPG) and 5.3 rebounds per game (RPG) during her career withthe Cougars.

Anderson had a phenomenal senior year at BYU. She led in both scoring(18.7 PPG) and rebounding (7.4 RPG). In the Mountain West Conference, she was ranked second in scoring average and third in rebounding. Asa result of her stellar season, Anderson was named Mountain WestConference Co-Player of the Year and All-Mountain West Conference FirstTeam in 2006. She also became one of only 18 players in BYU womens

She was the 17th pick in the second round of

the 2006 WNBA draft. All that summer, Anderson

went through a whirlwind being drafted, picked,

waived then traded. She had a brief career with

teams like the Minnesota Lynx and Connecticut

Sun, and by the winter of 2008, she was playing

overseas, rst for the Siemens team in Greece

then the Portugal championship team, Olivais

Coimbra. You get paid more, signicantly more,

Anderson says matter-of-factly. In a month and

half overseas, you can make more than what you

would make during a year in the WNBA.

Anderson has found much success playing in

Europe. She was named Portugal Player of the

Year, Forward of the Year, Import Player of the

Year and First Team Player. During the 2009-

2010 season, she helped the Israeli team Ramat

Hasharon to win the Championship and National

    Cup.

Anderson says life in Israel feels familiar evena bit like her Hawaii home thanks to the sun-

drenched beaches and near-perfect weather. Its

a little bit like a home away from home. I love

Israel, she says. Its unbelievable, running on

the beach with the dog. Its so gorgeous here.

How does she stay motivated and inspired? Her

faith is a big factor. Im very religious, Anderson

says. I love reading the works of Jesus Christ.

Its also a numbers game making sure her stats

    are desirable.

You can have nine or 10 point games, it s OK,

Anderson says. But if youre starting to average

that, its not so good. I have to stay 17 points pergame so next year, I get the attention of more

competitive teams. For me, Im a scorer. I love

    offense. Thats who I am.

PerhaPs it was written long ago that

Lance Brooks was destined to become a world-

class athlete. Born on New Years Day in 1984,

the Illinois-native was 22 inches long and

weighed a whopping 10 pounds. His remarkable

entrance into the world included a footprint so

big it barely t on his birth certicate.

As a child, Brooks was an Eagle Scout, a star

baseball and basketball player, and competed intrack and eld, winning practically every meet he

entered and breaking high school records in the

discus throw. Today, at 6-foot-6 and 270 pounds

with a Greek god-like physique, Brooks is the

No. 3 ranked discus thrower in the United States

and No. 24 in the world. Hes currently training

to qualify for the 2012 USA Olympic team. One

of Brooks lifetime goals is to win a gold medal at

the Olympic Games in London this summer.

The Olympics is one of those things that not

many people get the opportunity to try, let alone

make the team, says Brooks. I know I can do

it. I have a lot of people supporting me. It makes

a difference when you have family and friends

    rooting for you.

Though Brooks missed making the 2008

Olympics for discus throwing by 26 inches, it

only encouraged him to work harder to make

this years team. His personal throwing best is

64.79 meters (212 feet) the length of more

    than two basketball courts.

Whats special about throwing the discus? Its one of those things, the harder you try,the less you get out of it, says Brooks. Youcant over think it. You want to stay relaxed. Ifyoure not mentally ready, youre not going toperform well.

f you are currently using a concentrated Pre-workout supplement READ THIS!

Find out why that Concentrate you are using may be ineffective as a Pre-Workout supplement!

Dont be misled by the concentrated and ultra-concentrated

pre-workout hype that less is more. If you want to actually take a

pre-workout supplement that delivers the proper amounts of the

ingredients that will provide a benefit, then you need to use a product

that is based on science providing efficacious doses of these key

ingredients. As a consumer you need to understand that these types

of products deliver just a small serving of powder loaded with

stimulants that will amp you up but doing nothing more in terms of

providing a pump or helping you build muscle.

Conversely, FBXwas designed to deliver the efficacious amounts of

the key ingredients that will help you get the best workout. FBXwas

formulated to support energy, strength, power, and stamina for

effective workouts and results. The recent market flood of concen-

trated and ultra-concentrated pre-workouts with the philosophy

that less is more are nothing more than stimulant powders without

any scientific basis. Upon closer examination, its impossible to

deliver effective doses of any one ingredient when a concentrated

product has only 5.5 g to 8 g per serving. The ideal pre-workout

should contain ingredients that improve acute exercise performance

and facilitate post-exercise recovery. Ingredients should be

supported by published scientific studies at efficacious doses.

FBX contains the necessary and effective pre-workout ingredients

as compared to the concentrates that offer nothing more than

    stimulant or perceived energy.

FBXis a science-based and comprehensive pre-workout formula that

contains bioactive ingredients in efficacious doses. To support acute

exercise performance, FBXcontains maltodextrin and dextrose

(glucose) that maintains blood glucose and provides energy to fuel

muscles during your workout. Additionally, dextrose with vanadyl

sulfate, helps optimize blood insulin levels to drive creatine and

glutamine into cells. FBXdelivers a complete array of electrolytes

like sodium, potassium, magnesium and calcium that supports critical

water, mineral balance and exercise performance. FBXcontains

glutamine which is the most abundant amino acid in muscles andfrequently depleted due to overtraining. Glutamine is used to repair

heavily trained muscles, supports cellular immunity and support the

natural production of growth hormone. Beta-alanine promotes

carnosine synthesis in muscles. Carnosine is the most powerful

intracellular buffer and functions to neutralize the accumulation of

hydrogen ions released from lactic acid commonly produced during

high intensity exercise. For enhanced blood flow and nutrient

delivery, FBXprovides arginine alpha-ketoglutarate, citrulline and

vinpocetine for nitric oxide stimulation. Both creatine monohydrate

and patented Kre-Alkalyn enhance strength through the ATP energy
