    Montage

Description:An inspirational montage made by the blending of two or more images, and the use oftypography.

    Date:February 12, 2016

    Course/Instructor:Comm. 130 Section 1Ben Pingel

    Program(s)/Tools:Adobe Photoshop

    Objectives:Learn to manage Photoshop layers.

Learn to blend images together smoothly, using masks.Use filters.Apply appropriate typography.

Process:I completed this project strictly in Photoshop. I cropped the background image to 8.5×11and I used two images in this project. My first step was putting the main image (The manstanding alone with the sun shining on him) as the background. I then took my second imageand used the lasso tool to take just his hand; I selected it and moved it to my main picture.

I wanted the hand to be noticeable but not overlooked by being too transparent. I did amixture of opacity, using 20% and 30% to give the image more of a solid and more of atransparent look. I used two different fonts in the quote to help it stand out more and helpthe message come across.

    Brochure

    Description:A folding newsletter brochure.

    Date:March 26, 2016

    Course/Instructor:Comm. 130 Section 1

    Program(s)/Tools:Adobe InDesignAdobe IllustratorAdobe Photoshop

Objectives:Set up and align a two-sided, folded document.

Learn how to wrap text around an image.Use paragraph styles in InDesign.

Process:I had a lot of fun with this project, I really enjoyed using Adobe Illustrator to create theimage. I created the J and K by hand with creating lines and drawing them out, making themshapes and then filling them with colors that I wanted. I then created the silhouette of thelightsaber hilt to go with it, so anyone who viewed the logo together would know what theywere looking at. The star blast was created and used to give the appearance of a blade coming

out of the hilt.Once I had the logo created I went to work with creating the layout of the brochure. I trieda few different ideas but the newsletter folding brochure fit better than anything else I wastrying and I liked the simplicity of the layout and how much I could do with it. I foundimages of lightsaber hilts Online, and the two color of lightsaber blades that I wanted. I did alittle in Photoshop to get those blades alone and use them for the middle of the inside of my brochure.

    Event Ad

Description:A color full-bleed event ad to promote a fund raiser using only Microsoft Word and ascanner.

    Date: January 30, 2016

    Course/Instructor:Comm. 130 Section 1Ben Pingel

    Program(s)/Tools:Microsoft WordScanner

    Objectives:

Find, scan and import a high-quality image.Create a full-bleed design.Use text boxes for layout in Word.Insert and edit images in Word.

Process:I found the image of the runner in Runner’s World Magazine. I started with scanning theimage and setting the ppi at 300 so I would be able to enlarge the picture without losing thevisual content of the picture. I used the color scheme triadic, to bring the colors red, blue,

and yellow into my project. I feel this color scheme fits perfectly with my image and has alight airy feeling to it as well. Making everything in Microsoft Word was interesting and funto know that it can be done.
