Time: 25 th July - 29 th July 2011 Place: Gubener Plastinate GmbH „Plastinarium“ Uferstraße 22-26 03172 Guben Germany The Plastinarium in Guben, known as “Competence Center for Anatomy” is a research facility, teaching center and manufacturing site for real dry anatomical specimens, preferably plastinates. Those dry anatomical specimens are permanently preserved by Plastination, a process invented by Dr. Gunther von Hagens at the Heidelberg University in 1977 and further developed ever since. Presently Dr. Gunther von Hagens is the scientific director - and CEO of the Gubener Plastinate GmbH, Guben, Germany - of the Institute for Plastination e.K. in Heidelberg, Germany - of the “Von Hagens Dalian Plastination Ltd.” in Dalian, China and - of the Plastination Research Center at the State Medical Academy in Bishkek/Kyrgyzstan . In our mission to propagate knowledge for the preservation of anatomical specimens by Plastination we are herewith proud to announce a one-week “Silicone Plastination Workshop” under the leadership of Dr. Gunther von Hagens, the inventor of the plastination technique. The “Silicone Plastination Workshop” provides the basis of the plastination technique such as proper wet dissection of specimens and covers the main steps of plastination such as dehydration, vacuum forced impregnation and curing. In addition, it will teach the silicone plastination technique in more detail.

The details of the workshop at a glance: Leadership: Dr. med. Gunther von Hagens Date: Monday, 25.07. – Friday, 29.07.2011 Opening event: Sunday, 24.07.2011 – 6 p.m. at the “Plastinarium” Cost per person/ per day: Euro 620 (plus 19% VAT) Period of workshop: 5 days Discounts provided: Euro 300 net per person, if two or more participants from the
same institution book a place for the full 5 day period Maximum no. of participants: 10 (ten) Minimum no. of participants: 6 (six) Acceptance: Participants are booked and accepted on a first come first
served basis. Latest reservation possible by 4th July, 2011. Payment terms: Payment has to be made in advance.
An invoice will be issued after registration. Daily teaching hours: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Mo. - Fr. 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.: Lectures on Plastination Mo, Tue, Thu, Fri: 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.: Daily workshop with hands-on experience Wednesday afternoon: Sightseeing tour Guben/Gubin and group dinner Break: 12 - 1 p.m. Topics covered: These can be found on a separate sheet. Requirements: Basic knowledge is strongly recommended for participation in the silicone workshop; such as an understanding of the meaning of the following terms: vacuum, solvent, boiling point, evaporation, blimation, solubility of gas within fluids and the like.

How to travel to Guben: Guben is a border town to Poland just two hours by train and 2 ½ hours by car east of Berlin. From Berlin main station (“Hauptbahnhof”) run trains every hour to Frankfurt/Oder. Please change here for the train to Guben. Guben Railway station is within 5 mins. walking distance to the Plastinarium (just follow the signs). Using a car for coming to Guben cannot be recommended because it will take more time and getting a speed ticket is always a high risk in this part of Germany! Berlin can easily be reached by plane by heading to one of the two Berlin airports (Berlin-Tegel and Berlin-Schönefeld).
