Comment ne pas céder aux sirènes du Carnaval de Nice ? Comment ne pas vouloir s’extraire de l’actualité qui, depuis quelques années, a entamé une spirale infernale dans l’horreur et revisite les pires travers du genre humain ?

Carnaval est là, incontournable soupape de décompression au cœur de l’hiver ensoleillé de la Côte d’Azur, avec ses couleurs, son exubérance, sa dimension hors normes, sa joie, sa ferveur, son histoire si longue et si riche. Cette année, il brocarde les médias, leur histoire des Tables des dix commandements sacrés de la Bible à Twitter, en passant par la presse écrite, la radio, la reine Télévision, et l’omniprésent Internet.

Ces médias aussi nécessaires que futiles, aussi puissants que néfastes parfois, sont entrainés eux aussi dans une course à l’instantanéité dans laquelle nous perdons tout repère et souvent le recul nécessaire à une analyse et un parti pris construit et pertinent.

Cette année, tout le monde va en prendre pour son grade comme vous le verrez dans nos corsi géants, dans la grande tradition carnavalesque niçoise.

Bousculé, inquiété, le Carnaval est toujours là, pour vous, pour tous, petits et grands, quelle que soit votre religion, appartenance ethnique, ou statut social, pour vous offrir une quinzaine de fête et décrocher un peu de la morosité ambiante.

Profitez, dansez, jouez, criez, déguisez vous, amusez vous, défoulez vous et perpétuez la tradition séculaire de l’une des dernières grandes récréations pour tous dans La plus belle ville du Monde, Capitale de la Côte d’Azur, Nice la Belle !

Impossible to resist the siren call of the Nice carnival – impossible to resist escapism when faced with the horrific news that has plagued us over the past few years, plunging us into the deepest, darkest depths of what Man is capable of.

The carnival serves as an unmissable breather, blossoming in the winter sun of the Côte d’Azur, with its colourful, larger-than-life exuberance, uplifting spirit, enthusiasm and long, rich heritage. This year, the carnival plays on the media and its history, from the Ten Commandments of the Bible to Twitter via the press, radio, television and the omnipresent internet.

The media is as necessary as it is futile, as powerful as it sometimes harmful. It is engaged in a race for immediacy in which we lose sight of all points of reference and are denied the time we need to reflect and engage in a constructive and relevant fashion. This year, everyone will be letting out their frustrations, as illustrated by

the giant flower-laden corso floats, one of the Nice carnival’s greatest traditions.

In a world that upsets and panics, the carnival returns year after year, and is here for all regardless of age, religion, ethnicity or social standing, bringing you a fortnight of festivities and lifting the heavy weight that rests on our collective shoulders.

Make the most of it – dance, play, shout out, dress up, have fun, let off some steam and help keep this secular tradition alive. One of the last great parties for all awaits in the world’s most beautiful city and the Côte d’Azur’s capital – Nice.

Elle nous a quittés sans bruit alors qu’elle aimait tant la musique, la danse et surtout les rythmes latinos. Brigitte, élue Miss France 1977, fut animatrice-meneuse de revue en Amérique latine pendant 10 ans pour des shows télévisés très populaires. Menant de main de maître une association de quinze danseurs et musiciens d’origine cubaine, elle participait depuis de nombreuses années à tous les Carnavals de Nice. Avec sa troupe « Mambo Salsa » elle apportait à nos défilés, sa bonne humeur, son sourire et son énergie communicative…

She slipped away in silence, she who so loved music, dance, and especially Latino beats and rhythms. As well as having been Miss France 1977, Brigitte spent 10 years working as a presenter for hugely popular TV shows in Latin America. Having skilfully overseen an association of fifteen Cuban musicians and dancers, she had taken part in Nice’s carnivals for a number of years. Alongside her ‘Mambo Salsa’ company, she lent her sunny disposition, smile and talent for communication to our processions.

Le cyber Carnaval de Nice réunit depuis 2011 des internautes sur une reproduction 3D de la place Masséna, dans le serious game interactif de l’artiste niçois Patrick Moya sur Second Life. Le film est retransmis sur les écrans Place Masséna et pendant carnaval à l’Espace Ferrero (Place Pierre Gautier, de 10:00 à 18:00 sauf mardi)

Since 2011, Nice’s cyber carnival has been bringing together online visitors in a 3D version of the Place Masséna square through an interactive serious game designed by local artist Patrick Moya on Second Life. Footage will be broadcast on screens set up at the Place Masséna and during the carnival itself at the Espace Ferrero (Place Pierre Gautier, from 10.00 am to 6.00 pm, excluding Tuesday).
