In the United States, there are over 500,000 children in the foster care systembecause it is unsafe or not possible for the children to be with their families. Over 4,500of the children live in Louisiana. These childrenare our modern day orphans.By recruiting Christian foster and adoptive families and assisting churches in developing foster care,adoption and orphan care support ministries, Louisiana Baptist Foster & Adoption Network is helping churches and families to build abridge between the heart of God and the children who need to experience His love and care.

Evangeline Baptist Association Connecting Churches Through he Cross Gulf Coast Baptist Association

The Lakefront Community Church (formerly Catahoula Baptist Mission)

is sponsored by Jenkins Memorial Baptist of St. Martinville, and it opened its doorstwo years ago in the summer of 2011. Several attempts were made to have an evan-gelistic work in this small town of 1,100 people in the Atchafalaya Basin commu-nity of alligator hunters and fishermen, but there was much criticism, opposition,and misunderstanding. The work actually began in 1958, but attendance was veryerratic through the years. Several times the work closed for a number of years and

then reopened. In the summer of 2010 itwas decided that a new approach shouldbe tried. The name was changed fromCatahoula Baptist Mission to LakefrontCommunity Church. The building was renovated, given a fresh, new look, and thecommunity began to take notice.

This past summer has been an exciting one. A new fellowship building was movedon site in May, thanks to a grant from the Georgia Barnette State Missionsoffering. Four volunteer teams came: Sweetwater Baptist of Quitman conductedVBS and installed a shower unit. There was an enrollment of twenty-nine in VBSand two decisions for Christ were made. A community-wide crawfish boil was held

and there were sixty in attendance. If you feed dem crawfish, theyll come! Calvary Baptist of Pensacola, Florida, did all theelectrical and sheet rock work in just 2 days! First Baptist of West Monroe built a handicap ramp and front porch . FirstBaptist of Krotz Springs donated cabinets and completed the plumbing work. The missionchurch also has an active food pantry ministry which targets the low income families calledS.W.A.M.P.(Serving Wholesome Appetizing Meals (to all) People. This ministry has pene-trated into the impoverished community and opened doors to share the gospel. Volunteercarpenters transformed the childrens building into the SWAMP Store which provides a

new food bank location and a better distribution center. Over twenty families a month arehelped through this food pantry ministry. Tuesday nights a Celebrate Recovery supportgroup meets at a Catahoula home.

In March of this year, Bro. Louis faced cancer surgery and therecovery from that surgery. In spite of his health concerns, hecontinued to minister to the people of Catahoula, and sharedthe hope that is his because of hispersonal faith in Jesus Christ.

Through the support of the churches in the Evangeline Baptist Association, we are able to provide funding for anumber of ministries in the Acadiana area. One of those ministries is the Lakefront Community Church, and the followingis a report from Louis and June Charrier, sharing how God has been and is still working in this Atchafalaya Basincommunity:
