Sollertia designed the system and Scène Éthique built it following the technical requirements for this type of architectural element. The objective was to build the elegant metallic structures with all the mechanical accessories to have the tensile fabric roll out and back in without any problems. The geometry of the roof, the fact that it was added to an existing building and the mechanization of the roof membranes were all interesting challenges we encountered. Four independant tensile membranes were designed and only two were the same. Anchoring to the building and motors locations varied so the arches were not all the same. Each arch was decomposed in very precise laser cut pieces that were assembled in our shop. The arches had openings to receive the guiding tracks for the fabric, the pulleys and cables for the movement of the membranes, the motors anchoring, the awning protection when rolled back, etc. The frames, the braces and structural elements once assembled and validated, were sand blasted and powder coated for a long lasting finish since it is an exterior element. For the four motor units with different layouts, Scène Éthique built the bases to be integrated between each arch on the existing roof of the restaurant. We also designed and built the rain hoods to protect the motor and the membranes when they are retracted. The end result was an elegant addition to an already popular restaurant. The project allows the use of their terrace under rain or shine. Sollertia, a company specializing in architectural tensile fabric structures has approached Scène Éthique through the years for the fabrication of the metallic structures of their designs. The Bistro de la Gare project was the third project with Sollertia. Scène Éthique’s expertise in designing dismantable elements has contributed to fast and effective set up of the projects we were involved in. BISTRO DE LA GARE Sollertia

The Bistro de la Gare project consisted on four retractable roof sections over a terrace located on the second floor of a restaurant.

The

arches had openings to receive the guiding tracks for the fabric, the pulleys and cables for the movement of the membranes, the motors anchoring, the awning protection when rolled back, etc.
