1. Local cataloguing only 2. Shared cataloguing
with cataloguing cards 3. Machine-readable data
sent out on tapes 4. Machine-readable data
transported over ftp/http
1. One monolithic description for each resource
2. Reusable information put into authority files
3. Locally interlinked data
