SURVEYING AND 3D MAPPING
The use of UAVs for the purpose of obtaining fast and accurate
measurements has risen drastically over the past few years. Until recently,
ground surveying was the standard method for determining the volume of
mining material stockpiles. However, due to the increased efficiency and
safety of aerial surveying; mining appears to be one of many industries to
benefit significantly from this technology.

temperatures of the coal which may indicate spontaneous

LEGALITIES AND LICENCING
• The civil aviation authority of South Africa have specific
requirements for Drone pilots to operate legally
• All pilots must by law have a legal Multi rotor of fixed wing
pilot’s licence issued by CAA
• All entities need to have a valid ROC (RPAS Operators
Certificate)
• The ROC also has specific Conditions for example not all ROC
certificates allow Multi rotor flights or Night operations .
