In May 2016, the SAINT-GERMAIN-DES-PRÉS PARIS JAZZ FESTIVAL proposes unique, exceptional concerts in such prestigious locations as the Saint-Germain-des-Prés church, the Saint-Sulpice church, the Pantheon, and, of course, in the open air.

What could be more appropriate than Saint-Germain-des-Prés for a jazz festival? After the Second World War, its cellars welcomed the greatest jazzmen, among others, Sydney Bechet, Miles Davis or Duke Elington.

But you can listen to jazz all year long not far from the hotel Dauphine Saint-Germain at Caveau de la Huchette (5 rue de la Huchette), a jazz club that has existed since 1948.

Other cult jazz clubs, the Sunset, the Sunside, the Baiser Volé and the Duc des Lombards, are located rue des Lombards, in Les Halles, a 15-minute walk from either the hotel Dauphine Saint-Germain or the hotel Jeanne-d’Arc Le Marais.

FonzarelliINTERvIEw withArnaud Cacoub1. When did you first have the idea to open a restaurant chain?The idea started when I met my associate, Igor, as we share a love for Italian gastronomy and pizza in particular.

2. How do you decide on the locations of your restaurants?We look for locations where there is a constant flow of passers-by in areas that we like. And we want our restaurants not too be too far from one another.

3. What is the concept behind the Fonzarelli chain?The lead product of Fonzarelli is the pizza al taglio, literally, by the cut, which is a type of pizza that was invented by Roman bakers in the 50s. Our dough, which is made with the best flours imported from Italy, extra virgin olive oil, and salt from Guérande, is left to rise for three days so that it becomes both light and tasty. We also have pasta and a variety of desserts on our menu. Everything of course is prepared from scratch on the premises, in full respect of the tradition, but with our personal touch. Fonzarelli also means a relaxed atmosphere in a pleasant surrounding spiced with the flair of Italy!

5. What types of customers do they attract?We have all types of customers and we are particularly proud of it! Our goal is to offer quality products that everyone can afford.

6. How do you build a loyal clientele?By providing a friendly, efficient service, and constant quality.

7. What is your favorite, pizza or pasta? I like both, but my favorite is pizza.

8. What do you like least about running a restaurant?Everything to do with technical and logistical problems: a water leak, a refrigerator that breaks down, a late delivery, etc…

9. How do you see the future of Fonzarelli?We want to keep expanding. We are currently looking for spaces where we can open new restaurants.

Roland Garros,Every year, tennis lovers crowd into Roland Garros in the last week of May and the first week of June for one of the four Grand Slam tournaments and the only one where tennis players face each other on clay courts. This sporting event, which attracts 400 000 spectators, owes its name to a French aviator who fought and died during the First World War.

In 2015, the Swiss number two player, Stan Wawrinka, confounded all forecasts by beating (4-6/6-4/6-3/6-4) the

tournament’s favorite, the Serb Novak Djokovic. The World number one player, Serena Williams, dominated Roland

Garros for the third time beating the Czech Lucie Safarova (6-3, 6-7, 6-2), hence winning the 20th Grand Slam title in

her career.

Today, the tournament is fully deserving of its reputation as the world’s premier clay court event. Many of the current clay court specialists have been from Spain, including Majorcan left-hander Rafael Nadal, who has won no fewer than nine times in ten appearances on the Paris clay and is back in Roland Garros in 2016!

MARGARETZhang1. How did you manage to start writing such a successful blog at

such a young age as 16?I started my blog to provide me with a creative outlet that my

school schedule, that was dominated by chemistry, physics and mathematics, was not giving me. It evolved from being just a

collection of things I found creatively inspiring, to including my personal style and eventually my personal work in photography,

styling, writing and creative direction. I never intended it to become anything beyond creative self-expression, and to be

honest I don’t think it has. When people started to enjoy seeing and reading it, and following along, it was and is super flattering!

2. When did you start to love photography?I started shooting at around age 12 on film while I

was studying ballet (and spent a lot of time in dark rooms), then picked up digital photography when I

was 17.

3. You are a stylist, photographer, writer, creative director. Do you have some hidden

talents?I keep pretty busy with all of the above!

4. What are your favorite fashion brands?My favourite designers are Nicholas

Ghesquière, Raf Simons, Mrs Prada and Alessandro Michele.

7.What is your most precious piece of clothing?I have this ridiculous teal blue vintage skirt that I never wear, but it was my first real independent purchase at age 13. I saved up all $35 for it.

8. What can you tell us about Paris Fashion Week?Parisian shows have the best art direction and show production of all the fashion capitals.

5. What is the most adorable country you have visited?I fell in love with Morocco after spending two weeks travelling through the coastal towns, the Atlas mountains and the Sahara desert. I wouldn’t say it’s adorable, but endlessly fascinating and beautiful.

6. Is it difficult to have such a strong work ethic and manage to communicate a lot on social media?I’m definitely not militant about posting on social media. If I love a picture, or want to share recent work I’ve produced, I’ll put it out there. I like to keep it as a true reflection of what I am doing day to day. Sometimes I will go days without posting, simply because all I’ve been doing is sitting in meetings and there’s nothing beautiful or interesting about that!

1. When did you start working at Hôtel Jeanne d’Arc?I started working here in June 1991. Soon I will celebrate my 25th anniversary at Hôtel Jeanne d’Arc.

2. Hôtel Jeanne d’Arc has become a 3-star hotel. How do you feel about it?I already knew the Jeanne d’Arc when it was a two-star hotel. Thanks to Mrs Tournier and all her improvements and embellishments, we have embraced modernity. And I was very proud to work here when we were awarded a third star, which I believe was really deserved.

3. How would you describe your typical work day? There never is a typical work day in our sector. It is extremely diverse, which is why it is always such a pleasure for me to come to work since every day is a new challenge.

4. Your most memorable experience at the Jeanne d’Arc? In 25 years I had so many memorable experiences that it is difficult for me to pick one. I had the privilege to welcome numerous celebrities, both French and foreign. I am rather proud of the photo that was taken of me with Eric Cantona. But there are many other guests that I will never forget. For some reason, the Jeanne d’Arc attracts incredibly nice people, guests that I feel like pampering and that make my job meaningful and enjoyable.

5. What is the funniest thing that has happened to you at the Jeanne d’Arc?As far as I remember, the funniest things are related to the diversity of the objects we find in the rooms after the guests have left.

6. What challenges do you face when working every day with guests you have never met before?One of the first challenges is to manage to make them feel at home as soon as they arrive. And one also has to adapt to everyone’s ways and customs depending on their nationality.

7. Your recommendations to guests who are visiting Paris for the first time?My first recommendation is that they should take the time to walk around Paris and to discover by chance what is not necessarily in the tourist guides, such as our many pedestrian arcades.

8. Your favorite place in the Marais?Apart from the Jeanne d’Arc, I would mention the café terraces on the Place des Vosges and Place Sainte-Catherine. They are joyful and animated as soon as the sun begins to shine and they are truly what makes our area so lively and unique. I also like Musée Carnavalet which is dedicated to the history of Paris.
