C'est pour moi ungrand plaisir que de vous présenter une série d'artistesgallois qui célèbrent nos anciennes traditions sous desformes et styles contemporains variés. Notre délégation,forte de 200 artistes qui vous donneront un aperçu de larichesse de la culture et des traditions de notre pays,sera la plus nombreuse jamais envoyée par nous aufestival.

La première partie de ce gala remontera aux racines denos anciennes traditions. La deuxième présentera dejeunes artistes et des étoiles montantes qui donneront uneinterprétation contemporaine à ces riches traditions. Ungrand nombre d'entre eux se produiront également auNational Eisteddfod, notre principal festival, quicommence aussi aujourd'hui dans notre capitale, Cardiff.Je suis ravi qu'un lien artistique aussi fort soit établi entrel'Eisteddfod et le Festival Interceltique cette année.

Pleser o’r mwyaf imi yw eich cyflwyno i res o befformwyr o Gymru fydd yndathlu ein traddodiadau hynafol mewn amrywiaeth oarddulliau cyfoes. Dyma’r ddirprwyaeth fwyaf i fynychu’rwyl, gyda bron i 200 o artistiaid yma i roi blas oddiwylliant a thraddodiadau cyfoethog ein gwlad.

Bydd hanner cyntaf y noson gala yn cloddio iwreiddiau’r traddodiadau Cymreig. Bydd yr ail hanneryn rhoi lle blaenllaw i rai o artistiaid newydd ac ifanc oGymru fydd yn dehongli’n traddodiadau mewn ffyrddcyfoes a newydd. Bydd llawer o’r artistiaid yn perfformioyn yr Eisteddfod Genedlaethol, fydd hefyd yn dechrau aryr ail o Awst yng Nghaerdydd. Rwy’n falch iawn fodcysylltiad artistig cryf rhwng y ddwy wyl elenni.

CROESO! I’m delighted that Wales is the featured nation at this year’s Interceltic festival. It gives me great pleasure tointroduce you to a range of performers from Wales thatcelebrate our deep-rooted traditions in a variety ofcontemporary styles and forms. This is our largestdelegation to attend the festival, with nearly 200 artiststo give you a flavour of our country's rich culture andtraditions.

The first half of this gala will delve into the roots of ourancient traditions. The second half will feature young andemerging artists who will give a contemporaryinterpretation of those rich traditions. Many of theseartists will also perform at the National Eisteddfod ourleading festival that also starts today in our capitalCardiff. I'm delighted that there is such as strong artisticlink established between the Eisteddfod and the Intercelticfestival this year.

Aneirin Karadog est né dans le nord du pays de Galleset il a grandi dans les vallées du sud du pays de Galles.Son père est gallois et sa mère, bretonne et il parle cinqlangues. Il est poète dans cet art gallois exclusif « leCynghanedd » et fait du rap avec les groupes de hip-hop Y Diwygiad et Genod Droog. Ses poèmes ont étérecueillis dans plusieurs anthologies. Aneirin présente leprogramme quotidien « Wedi 7 » sur la chaîne detélévision du pays de Galles émise en langue galloise.

Ganwyd Aneirin Karadog yng ngogledd Cymru ac fe’imagwyd yng nghymoedd de Cymru. Mae’n fab iGymro a Llydawes, ac mae’n siarad pum iaith -Cymraeg, Llydaweg, Ffrangeg, Sbaeneg a Saesneg - acmae’n ysgrifennu barddoniaeth ar ffurf Cynghaneddynghyd â rapio gyda grwpiau hip-hop megis Y Dieygiada Genod Droog. Aneirin Karadog was born in North Wales and raised inthe valleys of South Wales. The son of a Welsh fatherand a Breton mother, he speaks five languages andwrites poetry in the strict Welsh meter calledCynghanedd as well rapping with hip-hop groups YDiwygio and Genod Droog. His poems have beenreleased in various anthologies. Aneirin is a presenter onthe daily Welsh language television programme Wedi 7.

SIÂN MELANGELL DAFYDD

Siân Melangell Dafydd est une écrivain et critique d’art,née et élevée dans la région du parc National deSnowdonia. Elle a été une des principales contributricesdu recueil ‘Hon: Ynys y Galon’ (‘Île du Coeur’), unouvrage qui explore le monde symbolique et surnaturel del’île de Gwales et de ses alentours, au travers de l’œuvrede l’artiste gallois, Iwan Bala (qui expose également auFestival Interceltique 2008). Après avoir reçu une boursede l’Academi pour les nouveaux écrivains, elle vitactuellement entre le pays de Galles et Paris, où elleeffectue des recherches atour d’un roman situé dans lesrues de la capitale française des années 1870.

Siân Melangell Dafydd is a writer and art critic, bornand brought up in Snowdonia and currently livingbetween Paris and Wales. She was one of the principalcontributors to ‘Hon: Ynys y Galon’ (‘Island of theHeart’), a book exploring the symbolic otherworld ofGwales and other islands in the work of Welsh artist,Iwan Bala (also exhibiting at the Festival Interceltique2008). Having received a New Writers’ bursary fromthe Welsh Academi to write a novel, she is now doingfurther research for that novel which starts on the streetsof 1877 Paris.
