Open to the world and a privileged touristic destination, the region is located in the South-East part of France, on the Mediterranean seaside and bordering Italy. Made of six departments, the PACA region is well urbanised, counting four big cities (Avignon, Marseille, Nice, Toulon), and many more famous ones, known for their charm or their history (Aix-en-Provence, Bandol, Cannes, Saint-Tropez). As the capital of PACA, Nice is a creative, dynamic, cosmopolitan and a student city. Located in the heart of the Alpes Maritimes, Nice is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea with 7 km of beaches and located near the mountains (the nearest ski resorts are an hour away from the city). Famous for the beauty of its areas (starting with the Old Town), the unique lighting and the warm climate, Nice is also a very suitable city for sports activities and welcomes major events (Jeux de la francophonie in September 2013, the annual triathlon Ironman France) Also known for its winter Carnival, Nice is very attached to arts and culture, counting nearly twenty museum, to which are added a lots of private contemporary art galleries and artists studios. Visas

Foreign students who do not come from a EEA country, Andorre, Monaco, Switzerland, San-Marin and Vatican must get a student visa to come and study in France.

There are a several kinds of student visas, depending on the length of your stay:

student stay exceeding 6 months: The non-temporary long stay student visa(visa de long sjour non-temporaire) allows you to continue your studies in a French higher education institution for at least six months. The usual duration of a long-stay visa is one year. This visa is extendable. Holders of a visa that lasts more than three months with a student mention exempts you to request a temporary residence permit for the rst year of your stay in France (more details see Registration by OFII below).

student stay between 3 to 6 months: The temporary long stay student visa (visa de long sjour temporaire) allows you to follow courses for a maximal duration of six months. This kind of temporary stay visa cannot be extended or turned into a long-stay visa. There is no need of requesting a residence permit once arrived in France.

student stay inferior to 3 months: The short-stay visa (le visa court sjour) concerns students intending to come to France for three months maximum. This visa cannot be extended or turned into a long-stay visa. There is no need of requesting a residence permit once arrived in France.

student / competitive exam visa (visa tudiant-concours) allows students to

come to France to pass a competitive exam, required to be accepted in a higher education institution. It lasts for only 90 days. However, if the student succeeds in the exam and registers de nitely in the institution, the competitive exam visa is turned into a long-stay visa. Therefore, the student does not need to go back to his/her country of origin to obtain a different visa. However, (s)he will have to request a residence permit.

dpose ensuite le dossier de demande visa de long sjou

r au Consulat comptent.

Procedure

Student visas should be requested from the nearest French Consulate or directly through the French Embassy.

For some countries, the request is made online through the Campus France agency website (http://www.campusfrance.org/), along with the preliminary registration application (or DAP, standing for Demande dAdmission Pralable) : Algeria, Argentina, Bnin, Brazil, Burkina Faso, Cameroun, Chile, China, Colombia, Comores, Congo Brazzaville, South Korea, Cte dIvoire, The United States of America, Gabon, Guinea, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japon, Lebanon, Madagascar, Mali, Morocco, Mauritius, Mexico, Peru, Russia, Senegal, Taiwan, Tunisia, Turkey, Vietnam.

Once the application le completed, it has to be registered with all the required documents in the nearest French Consulate or directly in the French Embassy

For any other country: - Foreign students applying for the rst time to a rst or second year of

Bachelors degree are asked to complete the DAP procedure. For that purpose, they should nd a registration application provided by the cooperation and cultural action service of the Embassy (in French SCAC, which stands for Service de Coopration et dAction Culturelle).

- Otherwise, students should directly contact the French institution(s) of their choice in order to obtain an admission certi cate; and then register for the long-stay visa application in the relevant Consulate.

Required documents to apply for a students

A photocopy of the main pages of

your passport.

A recent passport-type photograph

Proof of travel insurance.

A nancial guarantee for the whole

duration of your stay.

A detailed itinerary.

The relevant documents proving y

The delivery time can vary, but it usually takes about thre

However, it is highly recommended that the students start the p

Si lenregistrement nest pas fait dans les trois mois

suivant larrive en France,

le titulaire du visa sera considr par les autorits f

ranaises comme tant en

situation irrgulire.

Cette procdure denregistrement est soumise une

taxe de 55 euros, payer

au moyen de timbres dmatrialiss ou

de timbres scaux. Ce timbre peut

tre achet sous une forme dmatrialise

(https://www.timbreso i.fr) ou sous

format papier auprs des bureaux de tabac ou des

centres des impts.

OFII registration

Holders of a long-stay student visa, are not expected to apply for a residence permit in a prefecture during the rst two months of their stay in France. Nevertheless, they must be registered by the French agency in charge of migration and welcoming foreign people (in French OFFI, which stands for Of ce Franais de lImmigration et de lIntgration).

As soon as the long-stay visa is registered, the Consulate provides an application form for OFII con rmation in the meantime. The student should send it to the relevant OFII territorial executive department of his/her home address in France within three months after his/her arrival in France (OFII territorial executive department addresses are indicated on back covers of the application form and can be nd on the OFII website : http://www.o i.fr/IMG/pdf/plaquette_OFII_adresses_DT_et_RE.pdf).

Receiving these documents, the OFII territorial executive department sends a letter to the address given by the enquirer with an attestation proving the reception of the previous form and a noti cation to access registration formalities (and, from case to case, a noti cation for a medical check-up if it has not been performed in the country of origin, or a welcoming visit).

This registration, demonstrated by an OFII label on the passport, is compulsory as it con rms the visa by providing the residence permit. If the registration is not completed within three months after his/her arrival in France, the visa holder will be considered in an illegal situation by the French authorities. This registration process is subjected to a 55 euros fee that must be paid for by means of dematerialized stamps or tax stamps. Those stamps can be bought by a dematerialized way (see the website: www.timbreso i.fr or paper stamps that can be found in tobacco stores or tax of ces.

In Nice, foreign students can go through the whole procedure for residence permit at the CROUS (18 avenue des Fleurs, of ce n5) and also at ve principal campuses (Law, Human Sciences, St Jean dAngely, Sciences and POLYTECH).Schedule : please refer to bulletin boards at the Faculties (IRO and Admission of ce) and to web site of CROUS: http://www.crous-nice.fr/actualite/titre-de-sejour-permanences-des-tuteurs-prefecture/

Be careful:By the end of

your rst year of study in France,

and in the case you wish to continue

with studies in France, you will have

to obtain a temporary residence permit,

provided by the relevant dministrative

her studies, accommodation and

Introduction to the UNS

Since its creation in 1965, the UNS has always been a multidisciplinary university with about 11 main campuses, 1,600 professors, lecturers, researchers and instructors for more than 27,000 students registered. The UNS welcomes 7 faculties, 2 institutes et 2 schools (including Polytech Nice Sophia. UNS offers a variety of high level courses, leading to a wide range of Masters Degrees, meeting the expectations of our students and suiting the constantly evolving labor market. Research is one of the leading priorities. It is fully developed in research units, recognized on the international scene, thus contributing to the standing of the UNS. Thanks to its privileged localization, the UNS is therefore unquestionably appealing and this fact is illustrated by a high percentage of foreign students (18.5%).

International relations of ce

Each campus has a BRI which is specially in charge of the administrative management and focusing on international students in exchange programs. The BRI, under the supervision of the Vice-Dean or the Directors assistant representative of international relations, supervise exchange programs for students and deal with UNS faculties or institutes international activities. Therefore, the BRI is a meeting point for international students in an exchange program.

CALIOPPE Service (meaning Accommodation, Information Orientation Reception Center for Exchange Program Participants ) has been created by both the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis and Nice-Toulons CROUS.

It assists and welcomes UNS international students, with special concern for UNS exchange students (Erasmus +, BCI, Bilateral agreements etc.), as well as international students CROUS services for scholarships. UNS facilitates disabled students integration for university education as well as for other activities related to student life. A service to accompany disabled students has been created to assist, guide, advice and nd appropriate and speci c solutions. It collaborates with SUMPPS (standing for Service Universitaire de Mdecine Prventive et de Promotion de la Sant, which is the University Preventive Medicine and Health Promotion Service).

More especially, its goal is to provide: - Adjustments for studies (note-taking, tutoring, or other ways to assist disabled students). - Adjustments for examination (increased time, secretariat, special needs equipments, individual

rooms).

Students suffering from one or many health disorders can contact the service.

UNS assists international students in their learning and improvement of French language by SCL (in French Service Commun en Langues), formerly known as Institut Universitaire des Langues(IUL), meaning University Institute of Languages).

SCL offers a wide variety of possibilities for language tutoring, principally through:

Three Language Centers (in French CRL, which stands for Centres de Ressources en Langues) are located on the following campuses: Carlone, Saint-Jean dAngly and Trotabas. They give all of the UNS students a chance to enhance their language skills, in French or other languages. After a free registration, students can access more than 2,500 documentary resources, for all levels. In those three CRL, everything facilitates the process of learning languages. A staff composed of monitors is also available onsite to advise students, in group or individually, in training for certi cation preparation

The International Summer School of Nice is a university center for language learning located on campus Carlone. Every summer (celebrating 30 years of existence in 2013), UNS UIEN (standing for Universit Internationale dEt de Nice) welcomes international students, from all over the world, willing to improve their French language skills, whether they be beginners or advanced students. UIEN offers two sessions for French as a Foreign Language courses (in French FLE, standing for Franais Langue Etrangre), one in July and the other one in August, both lasting three weeks. The programme includes a three hour course in the morning, a two hour workshop in the beginning of the afternoon, and a lot of cultural and leisure activities for the rest of the time.

The CUEFLE (in French Centre Universitaire dEtudes en Franais Langue Etrangre, which means University Center for Studies of French as a Foreign Language) is one of the SCL services dedicated to French language learning. UNS Sports and Culture

Cultural activitiesCultural activities The Of ce of Culture and its Department of Arts provide a wide range of arts and cultural activities for all students of UNS including international students. To take advantage of these activities, students need to pay an annual membership fee (the CFS) at the time of enrollment at UNS. The programm for the academic year 2015/2016 includes : 4 free cultural workshops: drama,

choir, jazz and brass band. The registration for participants is open from 28 September to late November 2015.

Invitations reserved for students: shows and opera representations, plays performed at the Opera, the National Theatre of Nice (TNN), Theatre Antha of Antibes the Theatre Lino Ventura, the Ballets of Monte Carlo, the Manca festival, Baroque in Music

Sports activitiesSports activities SUAPS (which stands for Service Universitaire des Activits Physiques et Sportives and means University Service for Sports and Physical Activities) offers students the possibility to practice more than 60 activities (team sports, combat sports, rackets sports, tness activities, dances, water sports, eld sports, sport practicing in wild nature).

Once you pay the contribution CSF (for sports and culture activities)you are entitled to participate in a large number of outdoors and sporting events (tournaments, entertainment sports, hiking, international encounters) and to access the premises and equipment on each campus : swimming pool, gym, etc).

In certain Faculties, sports bonus, additional teaching or optional educational units can be added to your academic transcript. You may nd further information in UNS Of ces of Sports, there is one located in every campus!

The University Associations UNS community services are represented by more than sixty student associations. Being part of an association is the perfect occasion for meeting other students, experiencing the university lifestyle, open-minding yourself and tting new cultures.

A wide range of talents are expressed through the variety of student associations in different elds, whether they focus on entertainments, sports, cultural, humanitarian or scienti c aspects. They provide a perfect environment to be involved and participate to student life.

ESN Nice - Lassociation tudiante des changes internationaux

Erasmus Student Network dit ESN est un rseau international fond en 1990. Il est compos de nombreuses associations locales qui proposent leur aide aux tudiants en mobilit dans chacune de leurs villes.ESN International est prsent dans 37 pays et compte plus de 13 500 volontaires rpartis dans 480 associations membres appeles sections. ESN International a pour rle de fdrer toutes les sections et de crer une reprsentation commune au niveau local, national et international pour promouvoir les intrts des tudiants en mobilit. En rsum, ESN cest a : Accueil des tudiants en mobilit Intgration des tudiants en mobilit Information des tudiants locaux sur les possibilits de mobilit ltranger.

ESN Nice - The students association for international exchanges

Erasmus Student Network called also ESN is an international network created in 1990. It is made of numerous local associations which propose their assistance to international students in each city where the associations are present. ESN International is present in 37 countries et count more than 13 500 volunteer
