FURTHER INFORMATION

Please describe your organisation.

My school is a Technical College (HTL, Higher Technical Education Institute), which is an engineering – focused secondary school type in Austria. Our main areas of training are: mechanical engineering including mechatronics, industrial engineering, computer science and building services engineering.

Please describe your position in the organisation.

I am teacher for several technical subjects (construction and material science) and also educational consultant.

Please describe the ideas you want to develop during this contact seminar (pupil mobility / staff mobility).

Our international project “HTL4Europe” will celebrate its 20th anniversary this year. Since the first mobility in 1998 the HTL Voecklabruck has pursued a consistent internationalization strategy. So international projects have a long tradition in our school and the HTL Voecklabruck encourages and supports its best students to participate in international internships. It is strategically important for our school to get to know new implementation-oriented people from other European schools / institutions and my participation would be a chance to realize this idea: for our pupils and my colleagues, too.

FURTHER INFORMATION

Please describe your organisation.

The Robert-Schuman-Institute is a vocational and technical school in the German speaking part of Belgium. About 800 pupils are formed at the RSI in 7 vocational sections (office administration, mechanic, carpenter, cosmetics and wellness, catering, nursing for children, nursing for elderly people) and 7 technical sections (office management, media & web design and modern languages, arts, electricity, electronics, biology-chemistry, draughtsmanship). About 170 teachers are busy to give the best possible training. The first language is German, the second one is French. In the technical sections the third language to be taught is English. In office administration, accounting, secretary, media & web design and modern languages the students also learn Dutch and Spanish. Students are between 12 and 18-19 years old and after 6 or 7 years, they can get a certification of secondary upper school, the A-level (6 years for technical sections, 7 years for vocational sections). The Robert-Schuman-Institute has been involved in projects of school exchanges since 20 years and has school partners in Germany, France, Finland, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Latvia. For the last 20 years, the students of the vocational sections perform a 5 weeks long training in local companies. Students of the technical sections work during 2 weeks in local companies. This vocational training allows the students to have a practical-orientated view and prepares him to his future job.The vocational training abroad is very important for our students because we can prepare them to be a flexible employee of tomorrow. The stay abroad provides many social skills. This is a "Must" for a technical and professional school in a little region such as ours. In Belgium there are 3 communities (a French one, a Flemish one and a German one) and further on we are situated just on the boarder of Germany and the Netherlands. Therefore the vocational training abroad is a valuable experience, which facilitates the entrance into the vocational world of Europe. But we are also sending teachers for a one-week-training. They are host in classes of other colleagues; they can learn about foreign school systems, they can compare with their own situation. It is a very useful experience as well for teachers to go abroad to other schools to compare, learn and find out how problems can be solved differently.Since a few years we are also working with intermediate partners abroad; that means, some of our partners are not schools but private organizations, which search for us, work placements, accommodations and do the follow-up of the students and we pay for this service.

Please describe your position in the organisation.

I am a teacher in the superior of the mechanical section, technical section mecanical construction or professional section metal working CNC turning and milling on 5 axis, CAM (Mastercam-Inventor)

Please describe the ideas you want to develop during this contact seminar (pupil mobility / staff mobility).

FURTHER INFORMATION

Please describe your organisation.

Kouter Kortrijk is a secondary vocational school for pupils with a variety of specials needs including mild mental disability, ADHD, Autism and Tourette's Syndrome. A number of our pupils live in poverty, come from broken homes or are at risk of social exclusion. We also have a number of migrant pupils. Our school is the largest secondary school for special needs in Flanders. We have 9 different departments of vocational training: bakery assistant, catering assistant, welding, carpentry, hairdressing assistant, masonry, maintenance assistant, painter-decorator and shop assistant.Next to their vocational training, our pupils also get general education classes. As one part of these classes we aim to raise their awareness of culture, history and current events. In the past we found that working in a Comenius partnership with other schools in other countries, gives an extra incentive for our pupils to research their own and European culture, history and identity. It also motivates them to learn other languages and it gives their self-esteem a boost to be able to make presentations/products to exchange with students from the partnership schools.

Please describe your position in the organisation.

I'm responsable for the 9 different departments of vocational training. I'm responsable to organise the internship for the students of the 4th and the fifth year.

Please describe the ideas you want to develop during this contact seminar (pupil mobility / staff mobility).

For the moment we have a project in Dublin for two years. Our students hairdressing assistent go two times for three weeks to Dublin for their apprenticeship. We want to organise this as well for the other departments of our school. So we are interested in more information about pupil mobility and staff mobility.

FURTHER INFORMATION

Please describe your organisation.

Our organization is a technical school where the focus lies on learning while working. In our vision we state that we aim to make the connection between education and work stronger and more fruitful. The most obvious example of this is our “centre for learning and working”, where pupils come to school for 2 days and work for 3 days per week. Next to that, in our 5-days-a-week school we also aim to let the pupils get to know their future job as good as possible. A more recent example: “duaal leren” has just been installed by the government and we are on the front foot of developing this. It’s based on the system in our “CLW” so we already have a lot of knowhow and good practices.

Please describe your position in the organisation.

As a trajectory mentor, I help pupils find a fruitful occupation (e.g. work or training). We not only help the pupils, but also employers. We are the link between school, pupils, parents and their workplace. Expanding and sustaining relationships with employers is one of my core businesses.

Please describe the ideas you want to develop during this contact seminar (pupil mobility / staff mobility).

As a school the next step we want to take is international training or work for our pupils. Therefore both pupil mobility and staff mobility are ideas I want to develop.

We have a ‘middenschool’, equal to the 2 first years of secondary school and a ‘atheneum’, equal to the 4 last years of secondary school. Our school offers 3 of the 4 orientations: general education, technical education and vocational education. The basis of the curriculum is the same for all the pupils of the same orientation. For some hours, the pupils can choose between different fields of interest. We have theoretical courses: Latin, Economy, extra science, extra mathematics, Social Studies,… but also more practical courses: healthcare, carpentry,…Our secondary school (from the 1st year until the 6th year) counts approximately 110 teachers, 10 staffmembers and 750 pupils.

Please describe your position in the organisation.

I’m a teacher French and Dutch in GO! atheneum Avelgem. This year, I teach Dutch to the pupils of the second year (orientation: carpentry-metal) and French to the pupils of the third year (orientation: science) and fifth year (orientation: carpentry-machine tools).

Please describe the ideas you want to develop during this contact seminar (pupil mobility / staff mobility).

Our school has an extensive sector of technical and vocational education: carpentry, machine tools and electromechanics. For this sector, our school would like to organize an international internship, in order to improve our pupils’ knowledge and competences beyond scholastic contexts. The community of Avelgem is situated nearby the Walloon border. Therefore it is interesting that our pupils have a good base of the French language so that they easily find a job later on. It’s not only the knowledge of the French language we would like to teach our pupils, but also the customs of the French. Way too often, the pupils of this orientation remain loyal to their surroundings without going off the beaten track. With this international internship we would like to give them a view of life outside their bubble.More specifically, we would like to offer our 6th or 7th grade pupils an internship in a French company (carpentry – metal – tool machines). We aim for an integrated knowledge of the French language and learning new techniques abroad. Furthermore, we think it is essential that pupils our knowledgeable about the culture of the country and their residents. After their working schedule, we wish to organize some cultural activities to strengthen thighs with our neighbours.

Please describe the ideas you want to develop during this contact seminar (pupil mobility / staff mobility).

We would like to develop the idea of using virtual reality and/or augmented reality in education. Schools are not able to invest in this kind of new technology. But it is not the hardware that is to expensive. It is the development and usage of the software that makes it to difficult. So we would like to know what exists in other countries, what content and approach is used and look for possible partners for the development of the software (free use for schools).

The school has been an important centre of building education in the region for more than 35 years. The educational process has undergone several changes during the time, reflecting the impact of social, economic, political and technological influences. The school trains young people for 14 professions. It prepares students for Maturita exams (school leaving exams) in two main fields - Construction (including Civil Engineering and Architecture and Interior Design) and Technical Building System and Energy Performance of Buildings. The school covers a wide range of vocational areas and supports the training of apprentices in the field of Brickwork, Decoration, Carpentry and Joinery, Plumbing, Electrical installation. The school enables two-year-follow-up studies for the apprentices to get Maturita exams. The school organizes retraining courses for school leavers and for adults from the public to enhance professional competence. To get some more experience, trainers and teachers prepare students for professional competitions during their studies (e.g. ENERSOL) and have succeeded in many of them at a national level. The school cooperates with local entrepreneurs and enterprises. This network of contacts and the solid educational background provide a good basis for present and future operations. The school is very active in different project activities (investment and non-investment), aims to promote internationality in in a number of ways, on both national and international levels, organizes mobility for students and teachers (courses, job shadowing study visits) in the role of a sending and receiving organisation, and is a proud holder of Erasmus+ Mobility VET Charter.

Please describe your position in the organisation.

I am an English teacher with nearly 20 years of experience at primary and secondary education levels, I teach an optional one-year course of History of Architecture in English. Together with some of my colleagues, we try to introduce CLIL method to technical subjects and sciences. I work at the position of Erasmus+ project manager, coordinator of international activities.

Please describe the ideas you want to develop during this contact seminar (pupil mobility / staff mobility).

I would like to share my experience with running the international Erasmus+ KA1 projects, to get experience with KA2 projects and to establish the network of new contacts. Our future plans are to continue the implementation of mobility supporting and promoting study fields, where we struggle with a small number of people interested in the field due to the lack of experts on the European labour market (Energy Performance of Buildings). In our future projects, we intend to reflect on a steadily increasing interest in the new field Architecture and Interior Design. It would be really fine to find new project partners during the seminar, or ideas for new project topics, to establish connections for pupil mobility and teaching staff mobility, to extend and bolster cooperation within Europe.

The National Coordination Committee of Apprenticeship in the Construction Industry, called CCCA-BTP, is a French professional organization created more than 70 years ago and managed by social partners. It leads a network of 118 training centers for apprentices of building and public works, called CFA-BTP, offering vocational training shared with companies for more than 55 000 apprentices each year. This national vocational education and training (VET) institution is in charge of implementing the professional policy specified by employers and employee’s national organizations. The role of the CCCA-BTP is specified by the professional agreements concluded by the social partners of the construction industry and strengthened by the law. The main activities of the CCCA-BTP are: Promoting the construction industry crafts and training paths leading to them by

building up relevant communication strategies at national level. Informing younger people, their families and companies of the sector on initial

vocational training, especially the apprenticeship, and on professional opportunities in the sector.

Carrying surveys, together with professional organizations of the sector, enabling pedagogical services to conceive VET strategies and training paths meeting company needs.

Accompanying enterprises in the development of capacities of their human resources, in line with the evolution of work organization, technology and regulations.

Improving the quality of vocational training in companies by developing and supporting tutorship.

Advising younger people and companies in terms of choice of appropriate training paths to guarantee both social and economic inclusion by satisfying company needs in terms of skills and competences

Contributing to the financing of the CFA-BTP (training center). Guaranteeing the quality of the training paths provided by the CFA-BTP thanks to

national pedagogical standards approved by the CCCA-BTP and coordinated with the French Ministry of National Education.

This institution is composed of qualified staff in the domains like pedagogy adapted to the vocational training of younger people and adults, strategies of communication and shared training with companies, training of trainers and managers of the training centers, qualitative and quantitative surveys oh the evolution of the educational offer and demand, human resources, financial services and assistance in the conceiving and putting forward communication strategies in favor of vocational training in the construction industry. More than 100 diplomas, delivered by the Ministry of Education, are proposed by the CFA-BTP in 22 professional fields related to the construction industry. The training centers of the CCCA-BTP network are "Centre de formation des apprentis”, following the French system, work based VET following the EU classification. This means that trainees sign a labor contract with a company and that they spend whether 2 weeks in company/2 weeks in training center or 3 weeks in company/1 week in the training centers. This depends from the training path that the apprentices enrolled. We are organized in regional organizations (General Secretariat) that manage their training centers, and every training center as director.

Nationally speaking, we send in to European companies and/or training centers about 250/300 apprentices per year, for periods of 2 or 3 weeks for sections from 6 up to 10 people. Actually, the training centers’ pedagogical staff are in charge of defining the professional competencies that the trainees will acquire through the mobility experience, using also the ECVET framework when this is possible. Normally, in every training center the team in charge of mobility actions prepare a first draft of a pedagogical contract, which is the document used as base of work during the preparatory visit with the host partner, in order to negotiate the professional content according to the availability of the hosting partner. Please note that our training centers do the same when they host a group of European trainees: they define with the sending partner the schedule of the mobility action which could take place both in training centers and in companies. One of the main mission of the CCCA-BTP, which is based in Paris, is to improve the capacity building of the training centers’ staff to put in place mobility action according to pedagogical and professional quality criteria. Sometimes, the CCCA-BTP officers accompany training center’s staff during preparatory visit, especially for the centers “debutant” in putting in place mobility actions. Moreover, we regularly organize short-term joint staff training action in Europe addressed to training centers managers and trainers, based on exchange of practices and mutual learning (actions organized in Denmark, Italy, Spain, Germany, and Belgium).

FURTHER INFORMATION

Please describe your organisation.

The High school is a Secondary Education and VET School in the northern area of the city of Alicante. In Secondary, most of our students belong to a marginal level, reticent to any teacher whose training proposal focuses on the classroom. We have a heterogeneous mixture of Gipsies, Arab, African, Eastern, Asian etc. Their common link is an unfavorable social situation, which complicates monitoring the academic year. However, in VET, specially in upper grades, our students come from different places, social environments and cultural backgrounds. They are usually motivated, but their initial levels of knowledge can be very dissimilar.

Please describe your position in the organisation.

Since our opening in 2000 we offer VET programs in the fields of Construction and Civil Works (which I belong to) and Installations Maintenance. Tree years ago we also started offering VET programs in the area of Community Services. At present we are a reference school in the province of Alicante thanks to our facilities and the amount of programs taught.

Please describe the ideas you want to develop during this contact seminar (pupil mobility / staff mobility).

Firstly, we would like to give our apprentices the opportunity to improve their skills and their competences by sharing their knowledge with people from other places, and learning different construction techniques than used in our High school. Secondly, the staff also improves their teaching skills by sharing and working with abroad partners. And finally, we think that these mobilities help young people to develop in the personal field faster than almost any other type of apprenticeship.

The company works in partnership with a range of agencies across Scotland and mainland Europe to deliver lifelong learning projects that spread good practice, intercultural awareness, improved career and business opportunities and personal development. We have co-ordinated Leonardo da Vinci Partnerships, Mobility and Transfer of Innovation projects, as well as taking part in Transversal study visits and Grundtvig Visits and Exchanges, and been receiving partners for many Mobility projects through both Leonardo da Vinci and Erasmus+. All of these have strengthened our partnerships and extended the opportunities available for participants. While working extensively in Mobility projects with partners in several countries, we have developed networks of host families and work placement hosts that can provide welcoming, supportive learning opportunities. We have also hosted interns directly from a range of backgrounds and specialist interests. We have had excellent feedback from participants and project organisers alike, and are constantly looking for ways to add value to our service. Our staff team are skilled in project coordination, networking, communication and marketing, funding applications, and budgeting as well as helping participants feel at home in Glasgow and to navigate the public transport system. In our organisation of the work placements, we use the ECVET model to document and validate the learning. We work with partner organisations, participants and host employers to shape placements to be a rich and enjoyable learning experience for the participant and a valuable and productive experience for the host employer. At the same time we provide a new experience and valuable income to the host families, who gain deeper insights into and connections to other European cultures, while sharing their own culture with participants they host. Many hosts and participants keep in touch long after the placement, thus creating lasting European links.Since 2009, when we started with our first mobility project, we have hosted around 700 participants in Glasgow, as well as taking 45 of our own participants to the Netherlands, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Spain. This has given us a rich understanding of the Mobility experience from several angles. From students on work placements to apprentices improving their English and CVs, Light on the Path's mission is to find host families and work placements that match the participants' requirements. We work with partners in Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Ireland, Italy, the Czech Republic, Romania, and Sweden and we have had over 200 students from ten countries coming to Glasgow in 2017 alone alongside varied groups of VETPRO visitors totalling over 50 .In addition we deliver vocational training to Vocational Guidance Practitioners, and Peer Mentors on using the EGUIDE online Vocational Guidance Tool which is a result of and LDV TOI application in which we were the Project Co-ordinators and for which we now have a license to use in Scotland. We also deliver the Scottish Qualifications Authority Customised Award in Peer Mentoring and Support and are working with Spanish young people resident in Scotland to provide vocational guidance and support to enable them to progress into higher level employment. This includes deliver workshops and individual mentoring and coaching.
