The past participle depends on the verb:

    -é (joue) -I (grandi) -u (vendu)

+ many other irregular past participles (such as: eu, fait...)

    Le Passe Compose

The passé compose is putting verbs into the past tense. Instead of always using the present tense, you will now learn how to put verbs into the past tense.

Ex. I am winning the game = present tense Je gagne le match

I won the game = past tense J'ai gagne le match

It is important to know that there are 2 parts of the passé compose - 1. Le verbe auxiliare 2. Le participe passé

Le Verbe Auxiliare - the auxiliary verb is either Avoir or Etre. Most of the times it is the verb Avoir.

Le Participe Passé is the past participle - it is similar to the English ending of -ed - as in played, worked, waited. The past participle of the regular French verbs are:

    -er verbs change to -é

jouer (to play) becomes joue (played) -ir verbs change to -i

finir (to finish) becomes fini (finished) -re verbs change to -u attendre (to wair for) becomes attendu (waited for)

The formula for the passé Compose is:

    Le Verbe Auxiliare(Avoir) J'ai

    Tu as

    II a

    Elle a

    On a

    Qui a

    Nous avons

    Vous avez
