AABBOOUUTT TTHHEE PPOOSSIITTIIOONN:: On behalf of the University of Wisconsin Foundation, The QTI Group is conducting an executive search for a Chief Information Officer. Reporting to the President/CEO and serving in a senior management capacity, the CIO develops and executes strategic IT plans which support the UW Foundation’s mission through the development and deployment of information and technology resources. Through transformative leadership, the new CIO has the rare opportunity to lead, prioritize and drive the technology vision to aid the UW Foundation in achieving its mission. The CIO will lead an immediate, large scale, multi-entity, enterprise constituent relationship management (CRM) initiative. Under the CIO’s leadership, the CRM platform will be selected and implemented to meet new technology needs, provide cross-enterprise opportunities for integrated, searchable, secure data management and to facilitate the adoption and use of cutting edge technology to fulfill future goals. Candidates should have the ability to develop and promote collaboration around a shared vision for the use of information technology within UW Foundation and amongst its partners. The ability to balance the prioritization of competing goals will require a CIO who is adept at consensus building in ways that elicit confidence and align outcomes with organizational objectives. In addition to successfully leading the organization through this dynamic and mission-critical systems project, the CIO will advise UW Foundation on a wide range of strategic, tactical, and operational issues related to technology in a manner which provides a long-range vision to address the Foundation’s future technology needs. EESSSSEENNTTIIAALL JJOOBB DDUUTTIIEESS AANNDD RREESSPPOONNSSIIBBIILLIITTIIEESS:: Leadership of the Enterprise CRM System Project Through close and effective collaboration, the CIO will work with the UW-Madison campus, Wisconsin

Alumni Association leadership and staff, and the UW Foundation’s implementation partner in the selection, development and deployment of a campus-wide CRM system that will advance alumni engagement and philanthropy for UW Madison.

As a visionary leader, the CIO will align technology with organizational objectives and will drive the consistent application of technology across a complex, multi-entity system of partners.

As UW Foundation’s primary representative on the multi-entity CRM committee, the CIO will serve as an influencer and team builder. He/she will strive to balance the interests of the UW Foundation with the collective goals and needs of all involved. The CIO will leverage internal and external resources to propel and protect the implementation process striving for a significant and sustainable transformation.

The CIO will assume responsibility as well as design and lead a roll-out strategy for all UW Foundation related aspects of the full life cycle CRM implementation including project planning, staffing, vendor and subcontractor management, work program development, methodology, client relationship management, governance, status reporting, and change management.

Information Technology Strategy & Planning The CIO will bring significant experience with outsourcing and managing vendor relationships,

enterprise-level IT, applications management and development, data management, web-based initiatives, information security, and disaster recovery.

Through knowledge and identification of technological trends and their applications, the CIO will lead strategic technology planning to achieve business goals and to create a sustainable competitive advantage.

Through the development and alignment of the technology vision with business strategy, the CIO will establish organizational standards for defining and prioritizing new projects within the overall UW Foundation technology environment.

The CIO will provide oversight and critical decision-making in all technology projects related to the organization.

The CIO will serve as a champion for effective IT governance structures and will ensure necessary technology policies are in place.

Operational Management With a focus on both internal needs and external partnerships and commitments, the CIO will

confidently assume responsibility for coordinating the efforts of both information technology and business personnel to achieve desired outcomes.

The CIO will integrate business protocols and processes with technological applications across all internal departments.

While remaining innovative, responsive and adaptable, the CIO will seek to mitigate and manage risks. Additionally, he/she will ensure continuous delivery of technical services through oversight of service level agreements with end users and monitoring of systems, programs, and equipment performance.

The CIO will review and approve the technology services’ annual operating and capital budgets for purchasing, staffing and operations.

Human Resources Management Through the leadership, supervision and motivation to staff, the CIO will develop and enhance the long-

term capabilities of the team to create a department that inspires confidence and is recognized for its strong service orientation.

By fostering a shared vision, acting as a role model, and demonstrating the UW Foundation values, the CIO will lead an IT team that exudes passion for excellence within a service-oriented atmosphere.

The CIO will oversee staffing, training, professional development and performance management in his/her areas of responsibility. He/she will review, assist in developing and supporting departmental strategies created in collaboration with the Senior Managing Director of IT.

The following describes the ideal experience and assets a successful candidate will offer:

A strategist and business partner with demonstrated planning and management skills who has led complex, large-scale organizational and process change enabled by the strategic application of information technology.

Program and change management expertise involving both information technology and business personnel with a focus on ensuring that information technology objectives are clearly defined, prioritized and achieved, risks are managed appropriately and the organization’s resources are prudently utilized.

Substantial experience in information technology, with extensive knowledge of architecture, telecommunications, networks, databases, security and compliance, application development, platform/application deployment options, Web and media development, user onsite and mobile hardware and software needs.

An entrepreneurial spirit that encourages innovation and transformation coupled with the ability to translate vision into strategy and action.

A leader who personally seeks out and encourages others to consider new, cutting-edge information technologies which align with the mission and goals of the organization. This learning approach is translated into the culture and approach of those within the IT department.

EEDDUUCCAATTIIOONN AANNDD EEXXPPEERRIIEENNCCEE:: A Bachelor’s Degree in the field of computer science, engineering, business administration or related

field. Advanced degree and appropriate certifications preferred.

The successful candidate will possess a minimum of ten years experience managing and/or directing large scale technological operations; experience in strategic technology planning, execution, and policy development.
