Battery, rechargeable battery,mains operation

Battery/rechargeable battery condition indicator (plus recording indicator): Lights upwhen recording. Goes out when thebatteries/rechargeable batteries are weak. Recording is still possible until the motorstops (sound signal).Battery operation with two 1.5V/LR 6/AA batte-ries (alkaline-manganese), leak-proof. Removebatteries from the unit when they are exhaustedor if the unit is not to be used for a long periodof time. No responsibility will be accepted fordamage caused by leaking batteries!Rechargeable battery operation with recharge-able batteries 662. Charge the rechargeable bat-teries in the unit with the mains/charging unit678CW. Charging time approx. 18 hours. Duringcharging, the unit can be used with all functions.Battery/rechargeable battery compartmentPress and hold down the sliding cover button,then remove sliding cover from the unit.Inserting batteries: Ensure correct polarity (+/–);see figure p. Do not expose the unit and the steno-cassettesto temperatures above 55°C.Note on Environmental ProtectionDo not throw exhausted batteries in the house-hold refuse. Hand over the old batteries to yourdealer or public collecting points when buyingnew ones.

Low energy consumption – environment-fri-endly materials – environment-compliantpacking: GRUNDIG dictation machines are conceivedand fabricated according to the highest envi-ronmental requirements.The production plant of this machine is valida-ted according to the severe EC ecologicalaudit.

Accessories indicated in the text are not sup-plied with the unit.The features indicated by Grundig apply onlywhen using original Grundig accessories.Defects due to the use of accessories whichare not original Grundig accessories or whichdo not comply with the legal regulations or thecorresponding standards lead automatically tothe expiration of any guarantee rights.

Automatic switch-off

If the machine remains switched on inadver-tently, the current function is continued till theend of the cassette. After emitting severalsound signals, the machine switches off. Toput the machine into operation again, set theslide-switch to “� STOP” then select the desi-red function.

Cassette compartment

Inserting/removing steno-cassette:“�l LID LOCK” Briefly press the sli-ding cover button while pulling thesliding cover to its end stop.Remove steno-cassette by tilting itout sideways.For inserting the steno-cassette, seefigure o at the beginning of booklet.Close sliding cover.

Steno-cassettes

Store steno-cassettes in their Multi-box (transport precaution).For dispatch: Dictation folder 741 fortwo steno-cassettes and dictationdocuments (accessories).

Dictation

Speak over the dictation machine.The figure shows the optimum position of thedictation machine. The high-quality micropho-ne allows also for recordings over greaterdistances. (Microphone position see Fig. o)DICT. Indication(plus battery/rechargeable battery indicator)– Ligths up during recording.– Goes out when the batteries/rechargeable

batteries are exhausted.

Automatic signal tonelimiting after 2 seconds (see “fast forward wind/rewind”).

Playback

Starting playbackSet sliding switch to “� START”:– A warning signal sounds if no steno-cassette

is fitted.Adjust desired volume (turn).During playback, you canmark positions requiring correction.During “� START”:briefly press the “INDEX” button at the textpassage to be corrected.As long as the “INDEX” button is kept down,an index signal is added to heard text.Record the text to be inserted at the end of theletter or on a second steno-cassette (so-calledcorrection cassette).Concluding playbackSet sliding switch to “�STOP”.

Playback via accessories, e.g. ...

– Earclip sound module 556 (accessories).– Acoustic coupler AKS 20 (accessories), e.g.,

Fast Forward Wind/Rewind

During “�- DICTATE”- “� START”, you can“mark the letter end” with the “INDEX” button.During “�� FFWD” forward wind and “�� REWIND”, the unit stops for approx. 1 s atthese markings. These markings are recogni-zed by every GRUNDIG dictating machine withsearch function.

Rewind and fast forward without searchfunction

Move the slide-switch briefly to the desiredfunction (“�� FFWD” or “�� REWIND”) thenrelease it and move it to the desired functionagain.

Fast rewind with searchKeep sliding switch in “�� REWIND” position; the tape is briefly rewound then stopped:if you wish to hear only the last few dictatedwords (word repetition), release the sliding button (“� START”).If you wish to continue rewinding, keep the sli-ding switch in “�� REWIND” position.At letter ends marked by the “INDEX” button,the unit stops for approx. 1 s in front of themarking: release sliding switch “� START”), or,if you wish to continue rewinding,keep sliding switch in “�� REWIND” position.

Care and Maintenance

The housing should only be cleaned with a softcloth which picks up dust. Polishing or clea-ning agents may damage the surface.Parts contacting the tape should be checkedfrom time to time for contamination by tapeabrasion,see illustration at the end of this booklet.If cleaning should be necessary, use a cottonwrapround soaked in cleaning benzine.Never use a metallic or other hard object!– Remove the steno-cassette from the cassette

compartment.– Switch the unit on: “�- DICTATE”- “� START”.

Warning signal sounds as no steno-cassetteis in the cassette compartment!

– Press one of the two bolts A in direction ofthe cassette compartment.

– Clean the tape-contacting parts:Rubber pinch roller B, capstan C, soundhead D, and erase head E.

In the event of malfunctions, contact yourspecialised dealer.

Repair note on mains/charging units 678CW(accessories):Only original spare parts can be used. Themains lead must only be replaced by a specia-list!
