● Situated at the southern tip of Africa, South Africa has a landmass of 1,233,404 sq km edged on 3 sides by a nearly 3,000 km coastline washed by the Indian Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean. It is bordered in the North by Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mozambique, and also wraps itself around two independent countries, the Lesotho and Swaziland.

● Since the demise of apartheid, international tourist arrivals have surged, making tourism one of the fastest growing sectors. The tourism industry is well-established with an exciting sector of emerging entrepreneurs. The country is strong on adventure, sport, nature and wildlife travel and is a pioneer and global leader in

responsible tourism.

Established in 1898, Kruger National Park is Africa's oldest wildlife sanctuary. It is also one of the largest, stretching across 6.2 million acres. That's bigger than the state of New Jersey! SOWETO: SOUTH WESTERN TOWNSHIP

The South Western Township, or Soweto, is one of the oldest and most well-known black residential districts in South Africa. It was created in 1930 to house black South Africans who were kicked out of the nearby city of Johannesburg as a result of racist apartheid laws. There were no roads, electricity, or running water in Soweto at the time. Over the years, Soweto developed into a sprawling city now home to over 2 million people. The final stage of the apartheid resistance movement began here in the 1960's. ● Located in the South of the African continent, South Africa is composed of varied ethnicities who are symbolized by its nickname which is “The Rainbow Nation”. That's why European settlers had to take in account many ethnic groups such as Zulus. This is acted by a multi-coloured flag. Adopted on April 27th, 1994, the flag of South Africa was designed to symbolize unity. The red, white and blue colours were taken from the colours of the Boer Republics. The yellow, black and green are taken from the African National Congress (ANC) flag. Moreover, there many official languages like Afrikaans, which comes from Dutch, English which comes the English settlers after the Boer War and local languages such as Zulu .

● Even if South Africa is a multi-racial society, it didn't prevent it from racial problems such as segregation which was called there Apartheid. Nelson Mandela who lead the ANC, fought against those segregationist laws until he was released from jail and elected president. Nevertheless, South Africa remains a beautiful country which is particularly rich in raw materials such as diamonds and gold. The most precious British crown jewels is a diamond called “The Cullinan Diamond” which is inserted into the Sceptre with the Cross.
