Basic Facts on SAP Solutions for RFID 4.0 Release
SAP Solutions for RFID 4.0 is a complete RFID PlatformTechnology Stack includes
– SAP SCM – SAP Event Management– SAP NetWeaver Business Intelligence – Auto-ID Infrastructure 4.0– Integration to mySAP ERP solution (via SAP NetWeaver XI)
Can operate as standalone
Stand-alone RFID enabled ProcessesRFID-Enabled Slap and Ship Outbound ProcessingRFID-Enabled RTI (Returnable Transport Items) Processing with direct SAP AII
4.0 integration into SAP Event Management
Integrated RFID enabled Processes possible with SAP AII 4.0

Stock Counting –Ability to count EPCs within a location
New: RFID Stock Counting and Clearance in AII 4.0
Scan of Location – The RFID mobile reader scans multiple RFID tags in a specific location and gets their corresponding EPCs. Compares – AII compares these EPCs with the EPCs existing in the AII object table. Clearance – The user can reconcile differences from the expected object table against the actual objects read.

New: Customizable EPC/ID Hierarchies
Creation of the EPC/ID hierarchy through customizable filter valuesUsers can decide how to use filter values to identify different pack levels. Enables flexibility in assigning filter values and hierarchical relationships such as item, case, palletHierarchy can be customized for any pack relationship.
Customizable EPC/ID Hierarchies

Support for Additional Encoding Schemes
New: Support for Additional Encoding Schemes
Supports additional EPC encoding schemes for DoD construct, GRAI, GIAISupports User-Definable encoding schemes – possible to construct encoding schemes using other standard constructsData on Tag – for free form tag values to be on the tags such as mfg/expiration dates, mfg. location, warranty information, etc. ...

New: User Data and Data on Tag
User Data and Data on TagSAP Auto-ID Infrastructure supports both, the writing and reading of additional data on tags beyond the tag ID as well as the ability to link EPC IDs to associated user data. Data on Tag are additional data that are written or read from tags and reside on a tag.– Inputs of tag data may emanate from: user data, documents context, or
fields calculated by activities during run-time, other external sources.
User data is a system of record held in the SAP Auto-ID Infrastructure (AII) – User data is stored within the object context, for instance data maintained in
AII relating to a specific EPC, in AII.– Input of User data may follow the read of data on tag, entries by users from
UIs, fields calculated by activities during run-time or imported from a Device controller with help of a PML.
– In AII, user data and the observations of data on tag (the values of tag data at each read / write point) are stored as object and action object context, respectively.
In AII, activities (DEVICE_PRINT_TAG) determine what fields (andtheir values) are to be printed on a RFID label. The same logic will be applied for writing data on RFID tags.

Functional Enhancements
Automatic Document Assignment – The document ID is known from the fixed reader device
controller. – The document number comes from the backend system – The EPC was observed in the previous transaction by Aii and
there was a document associated with the last transaction.
Improved UNDO activities– Ability to remove individual EPC instead of the undoing the
entire PACK action. For example, remove individual cartons instead of undoing the whole pallet.
– Allow UNDO of an Action which is not the last Action. For example, PACK MOVE and then UNDO PACK
Event Handlers Created by the SAP Auto-ID Infrastructure– Event Management and AII are only required for RFID scenario– Direct integration to SAP Event Management from the Auto-ID
Infrastructure
© SAP AG 2006, SAP RFID Solutions – SAP Auto-ID Infrastructure 4.0 / 21
Technology and Usability Improvements
Number Range Management– Number ranges can be distributed to multiple device controllers
for each AII.Device Management Support– Support for the ALE protocol (EPCglobal) and SAP Web Services.– Creation of the Common Subscription Data Model (CSDM).
Enable match of non-SGTIN EPCs to product Supports SAP R/3 4.6c, 4.7 EE 2.0, ERP 2004, ERP 2005WebDynPro component re-architecture– Ability to place individual transactions into the Portal– Each transaction has its own URL.
Mobile Usability Enhancements– Supports Decommissioning– Supports Un-tagged contents – can PACK items with reference
to attributes.Test Tool – Improved usability for testing and implementation.

Key Takeaways
SAP is serious about RFID
SAP‘s RFID solution is a complete RFID Platform
RFID is more than compliance--RFID will become pervasive across many industries and business processes
SAP RFID can be implimented small and scale as your needs grow
Pilot, Production, Permanent - Avoid Re-Work
Leveraging existing skill sets reduces time to impliment and overall TCO
Physics\physical will not produce ROI – must look at business process enablement
Companies are finding the value in RFID with SAP
It works, it‘s solid, we have references
