Stewardship Note: Glittery holiday ads can blind us to our stewardship values and distort our needs and wants. It is important that during this sea-son of endless buying we remember that each of us also has the need to give back to God and to those that are in need.

In a writing course, students had to write an essay in which they were to define love. It proved to be a difficult challenge. Everyone had used the word, and knew what it referred to. But to actually define it, make it precise and understandable, took a lot of time and effort. Most of the students did not do well. They knew what it meant, but had difficulty explaining it. It raises a good question for us in Advent. What do we really believe? We use religious words like faith, belief, grace and salvation, Savior and Lord. But what do the words mean to us? How do they change our way of looking at the world, and how we act and what we think?

Time and time again, the Church calls us to be renewed, to strengthen our faith, to deepen our prayer, to be more apostolic and to offer a better example to others. Our faith is meant to be one of action, change, and transformation. During Advent, we recall God’s plan of salvation, and how we are the beneficiaries and the missionaries of His work and love. We know the whole story of our re-demption. With God’s presence—His grace—in our lives, we are changed. Our celebration and our actions will tell the world how.

Please see Pat Parslow or Dot Kasierski after Masses at the Basilica entrances to make your purchase.

Saint Vincent de Paul - In today’s Gospel John the Baptist urges to “Prepare the way of the Lord,” and this is what Advent is all about. We are called to help prepare the way of the Lord by making the real meaning of Christmas come alive in our own hearts, in our family and to reach out to those in need. Is there a family you know who needs assistance? Place call the Society of St. Vincent de Paul so that together we can help the suffer-ing and poor to celebrate Christmas.

ANGEL GIVING TREE Please help us to share the spirit of the Advent Season by taking an Angel from our Giving Tree set up at the front of our Basilica. We hope that you will make an Angel a part of your Christmas tradition. Children as well as the elderly look forward to your gifts to brighten their season. Please attach the Angel to your gift and place it under the tree by Sunday, December 16, to allow time for distribution. If you prefer to offer a monetary gift, please place this in an envelope and drop it into the collection basket or bring it to the rectory.

ANDRZEJKI—WORDS OF GRATITUDE We are profoundly grateful for all those who helped make our Andrzejki Dinner-Dance Fundraiser last Saturday evening at the PACC Club so successful. The event, sponsored by the Parish Council and headed by Katarzyna Kalinowska and Małgorzata Kicilinski was a great achievement both socially and financially. We are also extremely thankful for those who generously donated to the event and for those who helped during the evening including: Marzena Kolinski, Marta Pajak, Ursula Kokosinski, and Cindy Bourbeau. The food was exceptional and the hall was beautifully decorated and filled with over 180 people enjoying themselves. The night was filled with camaraderie and a fine family atmosphere. The profit from the event, $8,500 will be used for purchasing tables and chairs for the new Parish Center. May God bless the organizers, those who supported and those who attended.

RETIREMENT FUND FOR THE RELIGIOUS Next weekend, our second collection will be for the Retiremend Fund for Religious, a national collection that benefits more than 32,000 elderly sisters, brothers, and religious order priests. Many of these religious worked for years for small sitpends, leaving a substancial gap in retirement savings. With the rising costs of care and the increase in those needing care, many religious communities struggle to provide for their senior members. In thanksgiving for all that elder religious have done for us, please ‘give to those who have given a lifetime.’

ST. ANNE SOCIETY Thank you to all who participated in the annual St. Anne Soci-ety Raffle. The winners were Elizabeth Meagher, Randi Wagner, Al Cieszynski, and Gladys Dowgiewicz

CHRISTMAS OFFERINGS Christmas is a time for sharing and giving. We all extend gifts to family members and friends, even dogs and cats get presents. The most important person is Jesus Christ Himself and he de-serves our renewed heart and converted mind. Usually people ask how much should we give. This question has to be answered by every individual themselves. It is a tradition in the majority of our country that a Christmas gift to Jesus and His Church equals your monthly contribution.

SCHOOL CHRISTMAS PAGEANT

On Sunday, December 16, at 2:00 pm in our new St. Joseph School Per-forming Arts Center, the Drama Club will hold their annual Christmas show, SIMPLEST NATIVITY. This annual event is always an uplifting and absolutely wonderful musical that we encourage all parishioners to attend and intensify your Christ-mas spirit. Our students have been rehearsing for weeks and al-ways look forward to see all of you in the audience of our new facility. Tickets are $8/adults and $5/children and seniors.

2 NIEDZIELA ADWENTU 9 grudnia 2018

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

KALENDARZ ADWENTOWY 9 grudnia – Rekolekcje Adwentowe – Nauki rekolekcje głosi Ojciec Leszek Gęsiak, Jezuita z Krakowa; 10 grudnia - 17:30 – Spowiedź dla dzieci uczęszczających na katechezę – rodzice przywożą dzieci bezpośrednio do kościoła i podpowiedzi odbierają z kościoła. Klasy 1 i 2 mają tego dnia normalne zajęcia katechetyczne; 17 grudnia - 18:30 – spowiedź adwentowa;

A przecież mają oni w sobie coś z Jana Chrzciciela, surowego

proroka wzywającego do nawrócenia.
