Situated in Dammam city in Saudi Arabia, Al-
Hafez Building Complex is a mixed-use
building which aims at reviving proudly the
authenticity of the Arabian culture whilst
meeting the modern growing needs of the
region. The complex encompasses commercial
and administrative functions coming together
at varying levels. While the plans are
designed to maximize efficiency and fulfil
the economical aspect of the project, the
quality of the spaces as well as the public
zones are emphasized in order to provide the
users with a genuine experience.
This two-storey house is designed for a
client in Saudi Arabia. Respecting the norms
of the country, the privacy aspect plays an
important role in the design of the ground
floor plan where men and women have separate
entrances and zones. The landscape concept
aims at linking all different entrances of
the house through a radial pathway which
connects the office, the men’s entrance as
well as the women’s entrance. As one walks
through this passage, he passes by all zones
that surrounds the house: the parking, the
fountains, the outdoor seating areas, and the
private men’s zone.
As for the roof, it is designed to
accommodate various leisure activities like
the gym and barbeque. It also includes roof
gardens with pergolas where inhabitants can
relax and enjoy their time, and also, kids
can play. Although the house’s interior
follows the normal privacy considerations in
its plans, unlike other houses in the area,
this house breaks the conventional classical
facades. It ,instead, adopts a modern design
where a great expanse of glass and stone are
incorporated as well as slight use of metal
accentuating the entrances.
The structure of the houses in Egypt varies
from those of Saudi Arabia due to the
cultural differences. This is a residential
building which consists of both apartments
and duplex houses. The upper wing of the plan
is a three-bedroom apartment, the bottom one
is a replica of the upper wing, however, it’s
a duplex house which has an second floor that
has same layout out as the first floor.
With the linear form of the rest house, the
landscape is designed of organic lines in
order to create a dynamic dialogue between
the linearity of the buildings and the
softness of its surroundings. As the visitors
first pass through the narrow entrance to the
garden enclosed between the two buildings,
the landscape then starts off to guide the
visitors into the spacious landscape area.
The continuity of the pathways provides easy
means of access to all water features, shaded
areas and buildings.
Being located in Ain el Sokhna, the site
overlooks the Red Sea and has existing Sulfur
Springs which provides a rich context for a
treatment resort. The design of the Medical
City exhibits the deconstruction style, where
the buildings are of irregular shapes and
fragmented. Although each building has a
different orientation, most of them overlook
the Red Sea or the Sulfur Springs which are
incorporated within the project to enrich the
user experience with the context.
Mahboula is a mixed-use complex with the
ground floor functioning as commercial while
the rest of the floors as residential. As the
site is overlooking the Gulf, the design
exhibits a U-Shape form so that most of
apartments can have access to the view. In
order to compensate for the percentage taken
as built area, the complex has different roof
levels that are covered by roof gardens. As
for the landscape, its design is inspired by
the surrounding context, where the organic
lines are derived from the fluidity of the
Gulf waves.
Mayfair is an emerging compound in Cairo
where it is designed to incorporate modern
residential villas that are grouped in
different clusters. The task was to redesign
parts of the layout, adjust the forms of the
villas, and digitally present it. The layout
allows vehicular access to all villas,
however, it provides them with a view of
spacious green areas and swimming pools. The
organic design of the clusters surrounds a
central service area which includes a club, a
school, a mall, a medical center, a business
center, sports fields and courts.
