keeping the original Structure. (except what iS already damaged)

the other wallS are made with a Shelf between a polycarbonate board and a wood board. the inSulation are made by an ACCumulATION Of ClOThEs PIlEs filling the Shelf.

the South wall iS mAdE wITh shElf between two polycarbonate board.

each year, emmaüS have to drop off more than 4 ton (metric) of clotheS and varied tiSSueS. a part iS already uSed to create building inSulation materialS, that we uSe here in roof.

in the Shelf, ThE ITEms ArE ACCumulATEd without fill it completely. thiS accumulation draw the deSign facade, itS aeStheticS.

bAsICAlly, ThE fACAdE AEsThETICs Is dEsIgNEd wITh VIsIblE ClOThEs PIlEs.

the donation reception hall and the main hall, which had a run down roof, become «glaSShouSeS», identifying the main entranceS.

however, a lake of major public Space limit itS capacity to federate the buSineSS around a core.

for example, we could infer it from the inhabitant’S difficulty to name the Site.

during 3 monthS, we organized workShopS every weekS on diStrict’S main place. (outdoor market, Supermarket, communal houSe,...)

each week, the topic changed to help uS to focuS on Specific point of our analySiS.

each month, a complete day waS uSed for a more important workShop. it marked the main Step of our work. finally, two walkS through the diStrict and a public meeting to explain our work have been organized, aS well aS Several Street workShopS.

working with inhabitantS

no Specific way to do it exiSted, we had to create our own tool, inSpired by other toolS from other fieldS of participation aS popular education, and adapt it to urban planning.

we have created deScriptive documentS for each tool that we have experienced.

thoSe documentS have been referenced in a larger project call bao (tool box). it iS a project led by the citizen univerSity of montpellier. the purpoSe iS to reference toolS for participation in different fieldS.

the diStrict analySiS waS led in an objective way, uSing map, hiStory and other objective data.

nevertheleSS, a parallel analySiS waS led in a Subjective way with the inhabitantS. we tranScribed it in map.

croSSing thoSe two wayS gave uS a large view and underStanding of the diStrict, itS identity and itS iSSueS.

urban analySiS

9 different iSSueS appeared. we tidied them depend on the territory Scale that they queStioned.

to communicate our bilan, we tranScribed it in Simple Scheme.

So we determined 3 ScaleS : city, diStrict and reSidence. each iSSue croSS thoSe three ScaleS in a different way.

Chacun des 7 bâtiments change 4 de ses rez-de-chaussée en parking.

our project waS to articulate all thoSe ScaleS in one global reSponSe that can anSwer to each iSSueS.

we created planS to compoSe a main coherent directive plan. each plan iS a layer of the global reSponSe.

the architectural project that we deSigned (mine waS the buSineSS incubator) were located on Strategic hinge.

urban project

likewiSe the analySiS, we explained our project from the iSSueS to the anSwer with Scheme.

each project Scheme iS juStified by itS analySiS Scheme. our goal waS to have Something logical and eaSy to underStand for everyone.

we wanted everybody (major, aSSociationS, inhabitantS,...) would be able to take over it, even if they would be oppoSite to it. we wanted to open a diScuSSion with the inhabitantS and lead them to think about the queSttionS that we highlighted.

retranScription with Scheme


a big model retranScribed the directive plan. the modelS were good toolS to be eaSily underStandable, better than a plan.

Several analySiS modelS were created. we uSed it to animate diScuSSion and fix data in three dimenSionS.

the firSt one here ShowS a relationShip between the flooding area, the relief and the building location.the Second iS focuSed on the private cloSed area and the politicS choiceS for each reSidence about public Space and poroSity.
