la langue et le professionnel de la santé : une question de qualité et de sécurité

Les codes d’éthique des ordres professionnels tiennent compte de la communication et du langage. Que ce soit pour expliquer un traitement au patient, obtenir un consentement éclairé ou s’abstenir d’exercer sa profession dans des circonstances qui détériorent la qualité des services offerts, la langue est une question d’éthique! Et ce phénomène devient encore plus prononcé dans un contexte où les professionnels encouragent les individus à prendre leur santé en charge.

la communauté francophone de la Colombie-Britannique et les services en français

La communauté francophone de chez nous est à la fois petite et grande, selon notre perspective. Elle occupe le quatrième rang au Canada, après le Québec, l’Ontario et le Nouveau-Brunswick, mais elle ne représente que 1,6 % de la population de la province, où elle occupe le neuvième rang. D’autre part, elle comprend un nom-bre exceptionnel de professionnels de la santé parlant français. Par habitant francophone, notre communauté bénéficie en fait de quatre fois plus de médecins parlant français que les Québécois…

Cependant notre communauté ne se prévaut pas de cet avantage. Pourquoi? Le manque d’information, la grandeur du territoire, le défi de trouver ces professionnels de la santé dans un milieu minoritaire et immigrant. En fait, les médecins parlant français portent souvent des noms comme Baker, DeMarco, Geerts, Ibrahim ou Shaw.

Le Répertoire des professionnels de la santé de RésoSanté permet de présenter les professionnels à la communauté et de répondre aux besoins de cette dernière. Engagez-vous!
