Graduation Year: 2016 Hometown: Bever ly, Massachusetts

What did you like best about your position? One of my favorite parts about this position was working with the other brothers on the executive team, we became very close throughout the year, and I could not have asked for a better group of people to work with. We were always able to have fun with each other, get everything done, and deal with several difficult situations without there being a negative impact on our chapter. That being said I also loved being able to watch our chapter grow, both in numbers and in involvement, rush has always been one of my favorite parts of being in this fraternity, and being WCC just made it that much better. Any advice to your successor and the future Exec Board? Try to stay organized, and use your team! Being WCC is not about taking on all the responsibilities of the chapter, it is about working with the executive team and other brothers to improve the chapter. If you get overwhelmed, turn to your brothers for help. AAAE. What did you learn about yourself? I learned that I can do it. I have never held the president position in anything before, and I was very apprehensive to run for this position, but my big en-couraged me to, and I’m glad I did. I had fun with this position, and I only hope that the brothers that I served feel that I did a good job. Best thing about this year: The fall retreat was my favorite part of the year. I was the first time that I was able to get all of the elected leaders in the Phi chapter together to work as a big team. It was truly inspiring to see how much each of the brothers cared about the chapter in their own way, and as WCC it really got me excited to start the new year.

Graduation Year: 2016 Hometown: Joplin, MO What did you like best about your position? I enjoyed working with the committees. Any advice to your successor and the future Exec Board? Just stay on top of work! What did you learn about yourself? I enjoyed being involved with different committees. Best thing about this year: Initiating new PDC brothers into our chapter!

Graduation Year: 2017 Hometown: Sioux City, IA What did you like best about your position? The thing I liked best about my position was that it gave me the opportunity to learn more about Phi Delta Chi. I really enjoyed working with the executive team this year and getting to know each of them better. Any advice to your successor and the future Exec Board? My advice to the new exec board would be to remember that the motto of PDC is “each needs the help of the other” and that as long as we remember to work as a team then I think we’ll have another fantastic year! Best thing about this year: I think the best thing about this year was seeing the increased involvement and enthusiasm in PDC from all brothers.

Graduation Year: 2016 Hometown: Plano, Texas

What did you like best about your position? This position afforded me the opportunity to talk to every

Brother at least once during the year, and some Brothers much more often. I was also able to work with committee chairs, especially the fundraising co-chairs. Most of all, I loved being a part of the executive team because we constantly gave our best efforts to our Brothers. We did our best to consider the ideas and concerns of our Brothers as we tried to lead the chapter towards a better and brighter future, one that our chapter envisioned together. Any advice to your successor and the future Exec Board? Be involved in everything! You may be the money man, but you are also a vital member of the executive team and a valuable Brother! This is also my advice to all Brothers; if there is something you are passionate about, find a way to be involved! What did you learn about yourself? Too many things to put into this ar ticle! Joining Phi Delta Chi was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Life is crazy, and sometimes things get in the way of what you want to do or who you want to be. PDC has helped me to find myself again. You will never know how truly touched and honored I am to have been selected as your Worthy Keeper of Finance for this past year. Serving you in this way means more to me that most of you will ever know. Best thing about this year: Seeing the Chapter grow bigger and better , and being able to serve my Brothers as WKF!

4

Page 5: Phi crier 2015

Graduation Year: 2016 Hometown: North Mankato, MN What did you like best about your position? I really enjoyed being able to represent our chapter and communicate with other Phi Delta Chi chapters. The AAP reports were actually pretty fun to do most of the time! It gave me a chance to brag about how awesome our chapter is and all of the hard work we put into making our chapter better. Any advice to your successor and the future Exec Board? Work with the Achievement Awards Program committee to distribute the work of the Thurston Award reports. These reports don’t seem as daunting when you have several people working together to complete them. Also reach out to other chapters to gain knowledge and ideas to help our chapter grow. What did you learn about yourself? By being in this position as well as attending national & regional events, I learned how much I love Phi Delta Chi and I’m glad I made the decision to become a brother. Best thing about this year: It is hard to name just one thing! I really enjoyed going to LDS & Midwest Funfest where I had a chance to meet brothers from around the country. As for the chapter, I think the best thing about this year were all of the fantastic rush events as well as the Food Bus social in the fall!

Graduation Year: 2016 Hometown: San Antonio What did you like best about your position? It gave me a chance to implement some new ideas and to work with a great group of execs. I also like giving the charge in a humorously theatrical manner. Any advice to your successor and the future Exec Board? Use a calendar ; as WP I had to remember a lot of birthdays, polling, and other tasks. Also, always keep your ears open for new ideas from any and all brothers. What did you learn about yourself? Having not held many other leadership positions, I learned that I both enjoy and can handle a bit of added responsibility. Best thing about this year: Our chapter grew in size and has gotten more organized. There has been plenty of work to go around, but the brothers make it all worth doing.

Graduation Year: 2016

Hometown: Lincoln NE

What did you like best about your position? I like that my position is the junction between collegiate and alumni brothers. I’m really hoping that my enthusiasm for this position will encourage more alumni to reconnect.

Best thing about this year: The best thing about this year was getting the chance to be on the executive board, and I’m glad I get a second chance for the upcoming year to really put my ideas into action.

Graduation Year: 2017

Hometown: Minneapolis, MN

What did you like best about your position? I r eally enjoyed helping to plan initiation, and watching our pledge class become our new brothers.

Any advice to your successor and the future Exec Board? Communicate with each other and help each other to strive for the ideals and goals of PDC!

What did you learn about yourself? I loved working with the exec team and pursuing that leadership role in PDC.

Best thing about this year: Float tr ip! Let’s do it again!

Graduation Year: 2016 Hometown: Sioux City, IA

What did you like best about your position? It is hard to choose just one thing! I have loved this position. I think my favorite would be getting to know all of the new members so well. Any advice to your successor and the future Exec Board? I have lots of advice for my successor in regards to initiation. It is tough to make sure it all goes smoothly! Initiation is never perfect but I have some tips for the next person J. Have fun with your position and incorporate your ideas into the chapter! What did you learn about yourself? I think I have become more confident in myself and outgoing since I’ve joined PDC. Meeting new people from other chapters is a blast. I also learned a lot about how to be a more successful leader. It takes a trial and run and advice from others really helps! Best thing about this year: So excited for Banquet! I’ve really enjoyed the national/regional events that I’ve been to like Midwest Funfest and LDS. So glad so many people came to Chicago! It was a blast!

And the search for those with great potential begins...

August 28, 2014

When you entice prospective new members with free buffalo wild wings, they come

running! We had over 100 new members and official brothers come out to Buffalo Wild Wings. It was a great first rush event as we were able to reach a lot of people. It was

great to start meeting new people and telling people about Phi Dex.

September 3, 2014

Phi Delta Chi and Kappa Psi host an annual fraternity information session for prospective brothers to learn about both fraternities. This is an opportunity to showcase Phi Delta Chi in a more formal presentation and highlight the many benefits of pledging Phi Delta Chi.

9

Page 10: Phi crier 2015

September 7, 2014

This was the perfect set up to start really getting to know some

prospective new members and answering their questions about Phi

Delta Chi. While some prospective new members and brothers played a game of laser tag, others were able to chat and start forming new friendships.

September 3, 2014

Talk about a great night! One of our brothers was generous enough to let

us host an event at her house. We were able to grill burgers, play some

wiffleball and volleyball, an assortment of other games, and finish off the night with a big bonfire and

s’mores. It was definitely a wonderful opportunity to build new friendships,

discuss PDC and have a fun and relaxing night.

10

Page 11: Phi crier 2015

September 20, 2014

The Pledgemasters were thrilled that we had 38 people decide that they wanted to pursue joining the Phi chapter of Phi Delta Chi. It was

definitely exciting to see such a large turnout of potential new members!

September 17, 2014

Whether grabbing some free food or playing pool, there was plenty going on at our last rush

event. We definitely attracted a crowd once again and even brought in a few new faces. It

was an event to remember as many people started to declare that they had decided to pledge

Phi Delta Chi!

11

Page 12: Phi crier 2015

Initiation was one of the most fun things I have ever been a part of planning. It takes a lot of work to make everything go smoothly, but it is definitely worth it in the end and we received a lot of help to make it go

smoothly! We had so many brothers come beforehand to help that we ran out of areas to find people to help with! Out of the 38 students that took

bids at our bid night, we had 36 students initiate into our chapter. It was a lot of fun to welcome these new members into our family.

~ Allyson Cord (WMA)

Welcoming new Brothers to our family...

Page 14: Phi crier 2015

Class of 2016 Cedar Rapids, IA

My favorite thing about being a

brother is seeing how everyone really

cares about each other. My big is such a perfect example of that! All of the love and support really

made me feel like I belong.

Class of 2017 Table Rock, NE

I enjoy my family, when I found out who

my "big" was in the fraternity I

got three brothers not

just one. I feel like I can talk to all of them just like a big.

Class of 2017 Missouri Valley, IA

The thing I have enjoyed most about being a brother is just being a part of the

organization. I have gotten to know so many different brothers that I don’t think I would have had a chance to get to know were it not

for this organization.

Class of 2017 Missouri Valley, IA

So last semester when I was pledging, I had a REALLY stressful week one week and the

day we had our pledge meeting I totally forgot to dress up, I think we had two tests that day and my brother got in a fender-bender so he had to come get my car…it was just not a

good day for me. And honestly I was about to drop out and say I just couldn’t do it anymore

because I was so stressed out, but think I talked to Linnea about how I felt and she

talked me out of it. She was just super sup-portive about everything and I ended up being

fine. It was just nice to have some support from someone else that knew what it was like.

Class of 2017 Honey Creek, IA

My favorite moment of being a PDC brother so far is the brotherly love that I

have gotten. When my grandfather passed away this last winter, some of my brothers came to the visitation and were there to support me and did everything

they could to help me through that rough time. It was great to know that I had my brothers there to support me and comfort

me!

9 14

Page 15: Phi crier 2015

Class of 2018 Palatine, IL

My favorite thing about being a part of PDC so

far is getting to know the other brothers. I love

knowing I can go to other brothers in this fraternity for advice on school or something personal.

My favorite part of PDC has been

playing intramural soccer with some

brothers.

As a new brother of PDC, I enjoyed being in the

friendly environment that PDC provides. Everyone is really supportive and

willing to help and listen to any questions I

might’ve had. That’s what convinced during the PDC rush events. The

people in this fraternity will definitely help me

through my time here in pharmacy school.

I like the friends I have made from day one of

PDC rush and the friends I continue to make along the way.

There are always smiles and hellos when

you see a brother anywhere you are.

Class of 2018 Honolulu, HI

I have enjoyed playing intramural

soccer with a bunch of PDC

brothers.

Class of 2018 Omaha, NE

Class of 2018 Honolulu, HI

When I first came to Nebraska, I had a hard

time adjusting to the life here. With a new place and starting pharmacy

school it was rather rough. My brothers have helped me in more ways than I

can imagine, whether it is helping me academically or emotionally. What I cherish the most about

PDC is that it has allowed me to have a sense of

family here in Nebraska which has made my

transition a lot easier.

Class of 2018 Aurora, CO

15

Page 16: Phi crier 2015

Class of 2018 Urbandale, IA

So far I have enjoyed being a brother because it has allowed me to get to know a lot of great

people! I also like how supportive everyone is

of each other.

Class of 2018 Spencer IA

My favorite part of PDC so far has been the people that I have been able to connect with. I have met some wonderful people especially

through having a big who connects me with her friends as well. Because I have a big, she has

helped me socially and academically. My favor-ite part of PDC is being able to turn to anyone

in the chapter and being able to rely on them for help if I ever need it. The community and

friendships I have already made have been a huge positive for me in pharmacy school and I hope to continue to meet and grow with the rest

of the members of the Phi chapter.

Class of 2018 Honolulu, HI

PDC has been a good place for academic

support and fellowship through the rough tides

this year. It’s comforting to know that a brother is there for you when you

need it, fulfilling our fraternity’s motto of

AAAE.

Class of 2018 Norwood Young America, MN

I've enjoyed getting to

know so many upperclassmen! It's nice to know I can

always turn to a brother for

advice or support.

Class of 2018 Beebeetown, IA

What I enjoy most about being a brother is the instant support I got from

all the other brothers—even before I was actually a member. Last summer,

before I was accepted to pharmacy school, I felt the support from the PDC brothers when I played volleyball with

some of them. They always sent positive vibes and luck while I was waiting to get notification that I had

been accepted. Now that I am almost done with my first year, I continue to get support and encouragement from

my brothers. Joining PDC has been one of the best decisions I have made.

16

Page 17: Phi crier 2015

Class of 2018 St. Louis, MO

The support that I receive from my brothers everyday both

academically and in my personal life.

Class of 2018 Farley, IA

What I like best about PDC is the

camaraderie.

Class of 2018 Tulsa, OK

Brotherhood

Class of 2018 Sioux City, IA

What I enjoyed most being a brother in the fraternity so far is I got to meet so many awesome people there. The brothers are

very helpful and friendly. I didn’t really get a chance to talk to everyone, but I knew

several individuals that are always there when I

need help. Moreover, the fraternity always

provides an opportunity for new initiates like myself to be more

involved, I am so happy because now I am not

only a part of PDC family, but also a chair

committee. I cannot wait to get my hands on this.

Thank you!

So far, I have loved all the things we

have done together as PDC brothers.

But my favorite part of PDC is that

everyone is always friendly and willing to help you, even if

you don't know them very well. I think it's

great that PDC actually takes the

motto seriously and lives by it through

their everyday actions.

Class of 2018 Pearl City, HI

17

Page 18: Phi crier 2015

Class of 2018

Sioux City, IA

I like that I know I will have brothers for life along with

the constant support and help in any

situation!

Class of 2018 Newton, IA

Class of 2018 Hastings, NE

I have enjoyed getting to know the brothers in the chapter as well as just

being apart of this organization and learning

more about PDC in general.

Brother for life, get connected

through outside school activities.

Class of 2018 Chino Hills, CA

I like the fact that all brothers are willing to

answer any questions that I may have regarding pharmacy school. The camaraderie that I have

built through the fraternity is something that I know will last a

lifetime.

18

Page 19: Phi crier 2015

Class of 2018 Cameron, MO

I have enjoyed seeing the bond between brothers the most. Everyone comes from a

different background but it is nice to see that something like PDC can bond everyone together. When I am walking down the

hallway a brother I have only talked to once or twice will stop and say hi and ask about my

day, and gives me a sense of belonging. I hope our pledge class will be as strong as the

previous ones are now.

Class of 2018 Urbandale, IA

What you enjoyed the most about being a

brother so far (an event, a moment with a particular

brother, or just being a part of the organization itself) I enjoyed being a part of the organization

itself. I also know that my brothers got my back and are always there for me.

Class of 2018 Sioux City, IA

Class of 2018 Omaha, NE

Class of 2018 Rochester, MN

I enjoy to be a part of PDC. Spending time out with my big and other

brothers is the best. They are fun and caring.

I have liked the strong

brotherhood within the

chapter and the educational

support.

Just being part of the

organization

19

Page 20: Phi crier 2015

I have loved having a big brother who always

encourages me and offers me great advice on how to succeed in

pharmacy school.

The thing that I enjoyed the most is being a part of PDC, having many new

friends.

What I enjoy most is how supportive the brothers have been for me. During finals week I was stressing in the

library and multiple brothers came up to me and gave me encouraging words to help

me get through it.

Class of 2018 Lakeville, MN

What I like most about being in

PDC is the feeling of knowing that if I ever needed any

help with anything, I can ask and my brothers will be there to support

me.

Class of 2018 Omaha, NE

Class of 2018 Lee’s Summit, MO

The thing I have enjoyed most about PDC so far is just how welcoming and

friendly everyone is in the organization, especially

during the pledging process. I made a great

decision joining PDC and could not be happier.

Hometown: Water town, WI Year initiated: 2011 Positions in PDC: Pledgemaster , Wor thy Chief Counselor , Regional Conference Manual Revision Committee Chair Big: Annie Pietig Littles: Kaitlin Crowley, Br ittany Stevens, Michael Loewen, Tim Iver s, Makda, Gebrehiwet Plans after graduation: PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency at MultiCare Health System in Tacoma, WA Favorite PDC memory: It was great to see everyone’s par ticipation in helping out Midwest Regional Conference and meeting other local chapters. I especially loved the Friday’s social at the KFC when teams were playing mini-games. Advice: Don’t work hard just to get good grades. Work hard towards becoming the pharmacist you ideally want to be. The more effort you put into the rotation…the more you learn. Rotations are not only about gaining clinical knowledge, but improving work ethic. Be on time, be respectful to everyone, and try your very best. Overall, the reason you want to become a pharmacist is to help patients. While gaining knowledge, leadership, and experience will help you reach your goal to become a good pharmacist, the true goal is to help others by improving quality of care.

Hometown: Kapolei, Hawaii Year initiated: 2006 (Oregon State); 2011 (Creighton) Positions in PDC: Worthy Alumni Liaison Littles: Daniel Nguyen, Hyung Joo Plans after graduation: Unsure, most likely community Favorite PDC memory: Brotherhood days Advice: P3s: Make the most out of your rotations. Rotations is where most of your learning will take place and where you apply all that you have learned in the class. Rotations will fly by quickly, but plan on reviewing bit by bit for your rotations and the NAPLEX. P1s and P2s: Plan out your schedules. P2 and P3 years are busy, especially P2 year. P2 year will be when all the clinical information will be thrown at you. P3 year will be busy with projects and assignments. Be sure to also take some times to relax if you are stressed out.

Hometown: Brooklyn, NY Year initiated: 2011 Big: Emily deter Littles: Chae Kim and Melissa Sanders Plan after graduation: Working for CVS in California Favorite PDC memory: Costco shopping with Jessica Jacobo and other brothers Advice: Try your best in everything you do. As for school, find friends who you can study with (I can never study alone....). After a round of reviewing on my own, testing each other with study mates seem to work the best for me. And seriously P4 rotations reaaallly flew by.

Obviously you need to study hard in order to pass classes, but keep your priorities in line with where they should be and don’t get too caught up in the little things or worrying about your future. Try to enjoy as much time volunteering and spending time with your pharmacy school friends as you can. Those late nights studying and laughing are the things you will remember and will make you smile later in life…not whether you got a 91% instead of an 81% on a test.

Study: Pharmacy school is hard. Learn with a purpose and bring what you learn forward to ensure safe and effective patient care. Have fun: Four years passes by quickly. Don't forget to take some time to relax. Enjoy the company of your classmates, friends, and family.

The leadership development seminar focuses on improving personal and organizational leadership among its members. We arrived on Wednesday and started the conference with a pizza party and an activity called "Setting the Stage". We were divided into groups of 20 people and were assigned an Aesop Fable to re-enact. On Thursday morning we had the privilege to listen to a Phi Delta Chi alum and past APhA President/CEO, Jack Schlegel, talk about his experience with leadership. The rest of the conference we spent the day in small groups, working through modules with PDC alumni facilitators. The first couple modules focused on personal leadership development. The latter modules moved into organizational leadership development. There were also many planned entertainment activities throughout the seminar, including a beach party, day at the plaza, and banquet. The banquet recognized chapter awards, during which our chapter was awarded 3! These include 100% chapter achievement award, 2nd place in scholarship, and 3rd place in brotherhood.

My favorite memories involved all of the people I was able to meet during the trip. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly. It's a great experience to have a common bond bring so many people together. ~Allyson Cord

I had an opportunity to room with brothers from multiple chapters in Texas. It was a great experience to have the same connection with brothers from different chapter. I was able to learn what other chapters do and hopefully bring some ideas back to our chapter! ~Duong Tran

It was so much fun connecting with brothers from all over the country. Through our group discussions and the socials each night I felt that we really learned what it means to be brothers of Phi Delta Chi. It was especially fun to talk with and get to know alumni in a more informal setting. Also it was very exciting and a little surprising when we were called up to the stage to receive the Brotherhood & Prescott Scholarship Awards. It was a very proud moment! I'm pretty sure we all couldn't stop smiling! ~Brittany Stevens

30

Page 31: Phi crier 2015

I thought the most helpful information I learned and took with me had to do with organizational leadership development. We learned how to form initiative statements, closure statements, and more ideas on how to improve communication. We went over how to delegate tasks and use strengths within the chapter. I also learned my strengths and weaknesses and how to focus on using my strengths instead of dwelling on weaknesses. ~Allyson Cord

LDS provided me the knowledge to become a successful leader. We were able to work in groups and put in our thoughts on different topics that would improve our leadership skills.

I have found this knowledge very useful thus far, especially as a member of the executive team. I am better able to communicate with those in the chapter and outside of the chapter, bring my strengths into my work, and delegate tasks that are my weaknesses to those in which it fits their strengths. I am also able to bring ideas from other chapters to our chapter. ~Allyson Cord

The knowledge that I've gained from LDS was very beneficial! I'm more aware of my own skills and how I can potentially use it for our chapter. ~Duong Tran

One hundred thirty-one years ago, on November 2, 1883, 11 great men from the University of Michigan started an organization that today is recognized as Phi Delta Chi. They created this organization with the same vision: “The object of this association shall be to advance the science of pharmacy and its allied interests and to foster and promote a fraternal spirit among its members." Phi Delta Chi continues to thrive over a hundred years later because we continue to share the same vision that our founding fathers once had.

This year for Founders' Day, the Phi chapter got together for a little leisurely brother time. Despite the weather turning a bit cold, we still managed to have one last cookout! We played board games, sang the drinking song, and had a generally great evening. Brothers shared laughter, homemade desserts, and pharmacy school war stories to celebrate the brotherhood that was created so many years ago.

32

Page 33: Phi crier 2015

Brotherhood Day brought us lots of rain, but you can't keep the Phi chapter

down! Fortunately our amazing brother Meredith Taylor allowed us to use her gym to

throw a solid shindig. Brothers played basketball, card games, and socialized. Brothers dined on homemade fajitas and beans (made by our awesome Worthy Prelate). The tradition of the brotherhood melon was also observed (see

pictures) with great reverence.

33

Page 34: Phi crier 2015

Before the P4’s graduated, we had a get together to recognize their hard work throughout pharmacy school and to congratulate them as they move into a new chapter of their lives as Pharmacists. We celebrated at Upstream Brewery in Downtown with lots of food, socializing, and games of pool. This is also when we present the graduating brothers with their honor cords that they can proudly wear during graduation. Many of our active brothers, the advisors and the acting President of the University came to see them off during this bittersweet moment.

34

The second year of pharmacy school is often deemed the most challenging during your four years of pharmacy school. To help make the transition into P2 year a little easier, the Professional and Scholastics Committee gave a crash course on how to survive P2 year. For both semesters, older brothers shared what they had experienced and what worked for them and what did not work for them in terms of studying. They went through each class in terms of workload, professors’ teaching methods, and what to expect out of the course in general.

We had also provided the P1’s with the same opportunity during their second semester of school. We provided them some study tips and advised them on the importance of finding their study style early on in pharmacy school.

At the end of each semester during dead week, brothers got together to study for finals. We reserve a classroom and bring some

snacks and baked goods for brothers to munch on. For hours brothers would study, keeping each other focused and motivated.

NETwork Against Malaria is a national nonprofit organization that makes and sells beaded jewelry to raise money and buy mosquito bed nets. They promote the prevention of the disease especially for children. Each beaded bracelet that is made and sold is special in that it contains a paper bead made by women in Uganda. The money is raised is sent to a priest in Uganda, then nets are purchased and given to the girls in the schools who are trained to use the nets. In turn, the girls bring nets home to their families and teach them how to use the nets. For about one and a half hours, approximately 50 brothers (active brothers and new pledges) got creative and were put to work. So many bracelets were made that we even ran out of string!

Heartland Hope Mission is a faith based charity that provides food, clothing, and hygiene products. They serve the working poor, people who are disabled, and those looking for a job. In the last year alone, they have help over 30,000 people. This was a three hour joint event with another Pharmacy fraternity, Kappa Psi, involving 30 individuals of both fraternities. Half of the volunteers helped check people in, pack and distribute food at the food pantry and also give out hygiene products. The rest of the volunteers helped with a construction project (breaking down walls, moving bricks, etc.) Heartland Hope Mission has been expanding and have been creating new facilities and our brothers were more than glad to lend a hand!

The Phi chapter partnered with local healthcare organization to hold the first annual Omaha Diabetes Fair at the University of Nebraska, Omaha. Sixteen brothers helped attendees navigate through the different information booths as well as running some of them. Also, some P3 brothers worked with faculty in counseling patients on their medications. The fair provided individuals information on diabetes awareness, prevention, and care. People got information on exercise activities, viewed cooking demonstration, talk to a panel of experts and also speak to Medicare insurance specialists. Free cholesterol, A1c, blood glucose, and blood pressure screenings were also provided. Those who did not have diabetes were able to get vascular risk assessment and fitness assessment.

There were brothers who joined the 2015 UNMC Skateathon for Parkinson’s. UNMC partnered with Parkinson’s Health Development, a program aimed to improve the quality of life of patients with Parkinson’s disease by offering classes such as Yoga, Boxing, Tai Chi, etc. Over 500 people attended this event, but only a few were able to last the entire 24 hours. At the end of the 24 hour, nearly $12,000 was raised for the program. What a success!

January 23-24, 2015

In light of Valentine’s Day, brothers of the Phi Chapter came together once again for St. Jude. Brothers became the secret admirers of patients at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. During the lunch hours brothers decorated cards. Many cards were made and mailed to the little ones hoping to brighten their day.

Relay for Life is an event that was started by the American Cancer Society. During the event, cancer survivors were celebrated, caregivers were honored, and those who we have lost to cancer was remembered. It encourages individuals to find hope and raise awareness to fight back. The money that is raised throughout the night goes towards research, Hope Lodge (a place for patients and caregivers to stay), Road to Recovery (transportation for patients), Look Good...Feel Better (program that helps improve appearance and self-image), and Reach to Recovery (program in which survivors reach out to those who have been diagnosed with breast cancer). This event was open to the entire University in which multiple organizations and groups of individuals participated. There were a total of 53 teams and over 1200 participants, some of which were Phi Delta Chi brothers. At the end of the event, over $85,000 was raised. Such a great accomplishment for our brothers to be a part of!

Sherlock for Homes is an event that the Creighton University chapter of Alpha Phi Omega puts on each spring to collect donations from the Dundee area of Omaha. The goal of the event is to bring all the brothers closer together, to work as a team as well as help to collect as many donations as we can to donate to Open Door Mission. This year we had 40 people attend and we collected 436 pounds worth of donations, 212 lbs from the PDC teams alone. Open Door Mission takes our donations and sorts them and then they are put on the shelves where people can come in and fill their bags with food and clothes each weekend. The six of us who were at Open Door helped with the receiving of the goods brought back from the Dundee area, bagged and served food as people completed their shopping, and helped to clean and organize the shelves. Overall, I believe the event went well. Open Door Mission was very happy to have extra hands and more supplies as we were there during their busiest times.

Every year, the Phi chapter of Phi Delta Chi writes letters asking for donations for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital from family and friends. This year we opened it up to the entire School of Pharmacy and Health Professions. A box of letters and envelopes were left at the Office of Academic and Student Affairs so that anyone that walks by can write a letter or two, or even a whole bunch.. For every five letters that someone writes, they were entered into a drawing to win a prize. This year over 200 letters were written, sealed, and mailed.. What a great way to end the year with community service!

Fundraising this year was very successful. We had a ton of events in which none of them ended up costing the chapter. Some fundraising events that we did this year were: Rush T-shirts, wristbands, lanyards, license plate frames, scarves, travel mug, PHPSG Lunch, Brotherhood Coin, ¼ zip sweatshirts, “girlie” T-shirt, White coat sale, White coat dry cleaning. These events were organized by the chairmen and put on with the help of our committee members. We used Google forms to generate accurate and organized orders. Our PDC MiniStore set up was a hit this year to showcase all of the “swag” a brother might want. There are two events that stick in my mind as the most successful. The PHPSG Lunch involved the least amount of man power and still made a fair amount of money for the chapter through a soup lunch for students, faculty, and especially the PHPSG officers. The other event I would have to say was the white coat sales. As a returning event, I was unsure if there would be many students that still wanted a coat. Over 100 students participated in this fundraiser in a short 2 day time frame. ~Katee Miller & Jessica Kranz

43

Page 44: Phi crier 2015

Brothers are always willing to show their PDC pride by showing off their PDC swag from

fundraisers!

44

After potential new members bid PDC, active brothers and pledges got together at the rooftop of one of our brother’s apartment. We grilled some hotdogs, ate some food and bake goods made by our own brothers. Brothers and pledges socialized and got to know one another. Pledges got a glimpse of what it feels like to be a PDC brother.

Our PDC Tubing Social event was a fun way to grow closer as brothers outside of the pressures of classes and meetings. The river hosted an

outing full of laughter, new experiences, and bonding brothers and significant others. Splashing,

sunshine, and natural obstacles like low hanging branches and ever

changing sandbars kept our group entertained. Looking back now I realize just how quick that river brought us back to land and the pressures that awaited us. The

metaphor helps me truly believe that my brothers will be there not only to help but also to point out the beauty in every situation no matter how fast

the river runs us through life.

~ Jessica Kranz

The river tubing event was a great way to finish off the summer and relax with brothers before the stress from school started. I missed out on the river tubing event

during Grand Council but I heard from so many people at LDS that it was one of the highlights of their Grand

Council experience. So I made sure not to miss it this time. And I agree, definitely a fun-filled day! ~ Brittany Stevens

River tubing was an awesome way to enjoy the lovely

weather and bond with my bros for six

Brothers took advantage of the awesome weather before it got frigid and went on a tubing adventure! Bros put on some sunscreen as they spent hours of quality bro time in the sun floating six miles down the Elkhorn River.

Brothers took a break from their studies and spent Fright night together. Forty brothers and guests hopped on a bus and stopped at multiple spots downtown for some “food.” Along the way brothers danced to music and sang the drinking song with much enthusiasm. Towards the end of the night, brothers went to Dave and Busters for some games and more fun. It was definitely a great way for brothers to relax and bond!

The food bus social is one of my favorite events because it is always a night where new friends and life-long memories are made. It is a great bonding experience for new and older brothers to talk and hang-out in a fun environment. ~Allyson Cord

A very fun night with a bunch of my favorite people. To the food bus social: A fun way to involve brothers, food, and absolutely 0 cannibalism! ~Alex Miller

The 2nd annual Food Bus was a great success! It was great being able to meet new initiates and have a fun time hanging out with brothers from all classes. Always a highlight of the semester!

The social was a great time! Pizza was demolished, games were played and drinks were consumed! It was a great time for brotherly bonding. ~Kallee Pfeiffer

The social was on Friday, January 23rd after the formal meeting. We are estimating around 50-60 and we had it in the Tip Top community room. We had pizza and sweets and played games. We also celebrated Kaitlin Crowley’s and Kaitlyn Mehmen’s birthday. It was a great event, we had a great turnout and we had a lot of good brotherly bonding across different pledge classes. It was a fun night for the brothers to spend just having fun together and seeing everyone after winter break!

Brothers do not need an official PDC event to hangout. Brothers are always getting together for some quality bonding.

49

Page 50: Phi crier 2015

This year, the Phi Chapter put together the first annual Spring Banquet themed “Capture the Moment with PDC” on Friday, April 24, 2015. About 90 brothers, guests, and alumni joined in on the fun. We had a cocktail hour to start the night in which brothers took pictures, socialized, and had a few drinks. We served an Italian style buffet dinner followed by presentations which included our Keynote speaker (Dr. Spencer), a slideshow, awards and a game of gimmie gimmie. We concluded the night with dancing and more pictures and socializing. This was a great way for the entire chapter to get together and have some fun before finals.

It was awesome to see so many PDC brothers. It is nice to be involved more and see current and future leaders in pharmacy. I am looking forward to Grand Council. To Phi Dex Alumni—pay your dues—it helps the active members and encourages and supports our future leaders in pharmacy.

I loved being able to hang out with the bros for a night eating good food, dancing, and taking fun photos and I look forward to our banquet next year!

Every month, brothers are nominated for Brother of the Month. These individuals have gone to great lengths for

other brothers and have shown awesome Brotherhood. These brothers have also been inspiring leaders and has set a good

example for the rest of the chapter. These brothers also dedicated a lot of time and effort to the fraternity and has

helped our chapter grow. Each month, the chapter votes on one brother to be recognized for such actions.

T hough I am not a brother yet, the presence of brotherhood is strong in Phi Delta

Chi. I sense it every time I step inside the room. There is an aura of unity, be-

longing, and support that makes brotherhood more than just wearing the Greek letters

and attending meetings. It is a feeling shared among brother to brother. It is that feel-

ing when we all come together to support each other and share memories. It is that

feeling we get when we see a brother that represents our values. It is that feeling we

get when we think about the person or people that brought us into Phi Delta Chi. It is

that feeling you get when a brother understands how another brother is feeling. It is

that feeling when you are surrounded by those who call your brothers and see that

they are willing to give as much of themselves to you as you are willing to give to them. This is the feeling

that justifies our reason to pledge and initiate to become brothers.

B rotherhood is like a niche you can call a home away from home, to share with among those

who you feel comfortable to be yourself around with. More importantly, brotherhood is the

making of relationships that will last a lifetime. It is the feeling of knowing you can count on your fellow

brothers in good times and in bad. This intimacy is special because it is what ties us closer together as broth-

ers. There is genuine support and mutual understanding between brothers that helps get us through each day.

J oining a group that respects similar values and strives for similar goals draw brothers together as

one strong unit. Phi Delta Chi demonstrates these characteristics of brotherhood because the

brothers that I have met so far have proved it. They empathize with each other’s successes and tough goings

in pharmacy school that make the journey bearable and worthwhile. Upon initiation I know that I can expect

a lifetime of guidance, passion, and togetherness with the people that I can call my brothers. Brotherhood is

a feeling deeply rooted and unique to each and every brother.

It really has been an honor to be a part of the designing team of the Phi Crier this year. The Phi chapter has grown tremendously and has accomplished a lot over the year. It gives me great pride and joy to have shared a glimpse of what the Phi chapter of Phi Delta Chi is all about.

This year’s publication was created with the theme of comic books in mind. I believe that it embodies every brother perfectly. Each brother is a superhero with their own special superpower. They attack each event with great enthusiasm and fierceness and they all contribute to the chapter in different ways that makes the chapter stronger.

The publication was definitely a lot of work, but it was also a lot of fun. I got tap into my creative side and work with quite a few of our brothers. I’ve encountered a few obstacles, but there is nothing that this superhero can’t overcome. All the time and effort that was put into this publication, not only by me, but also my brothers has truly paid off!

I would like to thank my co-chairs, Jeannie Kinoshita and Sandra Huang, for helping me gather all the information that was needed to put this publication together. Also, I would like to extend my thanks to all my brothers of the Phi chapter for their participation. This publication, and this entire year in general would not have been as amazing as it was if you all weren't a part of it.
