She holds a master’s inpublic health in health policy andadministrationfromtheUniversityofMinnesota, and a bachelor’s inpoliticalscienceandsocialjustice.Ms.Plucinski is the former Legislative Director of theMinnesotaIndian Affairs Council, and also worked for the MinnesotaDepartmentofHumanServicesastheAmericanIndianLiaison.AtAICAF,Ms.Plucinskiworksacrossmultipleprojects,focusingon policy, systems, and environmental change to advancetribal equity; cancer prevention; and healthy norms inAmericanIndianCommunities.

TheNorthsideAchievementZone(NAZ),acollaborativeofover40partner non-profits and schools,works toward a single goal: to prepare low-income NorthMinneapolis children tograduate fromhigh school ready forcollege.NAZhasscaledupinsupportofover1,000parentsand2,300students,astheyturnthesocialservicemodelonitsheadand lead the creationof a college-bound culture throughoutthe community. As a businessowner,hewasrecognizedbytheTwinCities’BusinessJournalin2004asoneofthestate’s“40Under40”leaders. In2012,Mr.ThaoreceivedthePioneeringAwardfromtheCouncilonAsian-Pacific Minnesotans for his years of providing cross-cultural mental health services to the Asian AmericanCommunityinMinnesota.

Shelly Zuzek,MSW, LICSW, DirectorofIntegratedCareandContracts,VailPlace. Shelly Zuzek has 30 years’experience in the mental healtharena. She is the Director ofIntegrated Care at Vail Place, amental health nonprofit that servesas a hub for addressing socialdeterminantsforpeoplewithseriousand persistent mental illnesses. ProtectMinnesota promotes a culture of healthand safety for all Minnesotans by preventing gun violencethrougheffective laws,policies,andcommunityeducation. Itworks in partnership with the Minnesota Public HealthAssociation through Health Care Coalition to Prevent GunViolence,oneoffivemembercaucuses.

Megan Radamaker, graduate student, University ofMinnesota School of Public Health. Tailoring the Message: HPV as a Cancer Prevention Vaccine InMinnesota, American Indianwomen are four timesmorelikely than non-Hispanic white women to develop cervicalcancer. Nearly all cases of cervical cancer are caused byinfectionwithhigh-risktypesofhumanpapillomavirus(HPV);HPVvaccinationprevents infectionbyvirus types thatcausethevastmajorityofthesecancers.

• Learn about the HPV virus and the HPV vaccine andreliableresourcesforparentsandthegeneralpublic

• Describe Cervical and other HPV related cancers, theimpact that increased HPV vaccination could have inreducing these disparities and the potential value ofreframing the HPV vaccine as a cancer preventionvaccine

As the director of community relations for thelargest state agency in Minnesota, Antonia Apolinário-Wilcoxonprovides agency-wide leadership for connecting with communitiesand building sustaining relationships. This work generated thelegislativelymandated Cultural and Ethnic Communities LeadershipCouncil (CECLC), enacted in 2013 to advise the Commissioner ofHuman Services on achieving equity for all Minnesotans. CECLCrecommendations align with and have influenced a number ofongoing DHS efforts, including a health equity policy to guide alloperationsactions.Ms.Apolinário-WilcoxonisanactiveparticipantintheTwinCitiesequitycommunity.SheiscurrentlyinvolvedwithaBushFoundation-funded grant to introduce authentic communityengagementattheMinnesotaDepartmentofHumanServicesaroundsocial determinants of health, adverse childhood experiences andhistorical trauma. Sara Chute, MPH, Acting Director of Center for Health Equity,MinnesotaDept.ofHealth(Breakout9,p.9).SaraChutehasservedas ActingDirector for theMinnesotaDepartment of Health (MDH)Center forHealthEquityandCenter forHealth Statistics sincemid-2016,wheresheoverseesprogrambudgets,relatedactivities,and12incrediblestaff.Priortothat,Ms.Chuteworkedforover10yearsintheMDHRefugeeandInternationalHealthProgram.Inthisrole,shedevelopedandmonitoredbudgetsandprovidedguidanceonavarietyof issues related to international health, aimed at reaching orhighlighting refugee and immigrant populations. She also oversawseveral community health education and diverse media grants torefugee-led community coalitionsandagencies.Ms.ChutehasalsolentherexpertisetoMDHinitiativesforLimitedEnglishProficientandlowliteracycommunications,healthequity,andculturalcompetence.Nationally, she served on the Health Education Committee for theAssociation of Refugee Health Coordinators. Locally, she has co-chairedtheMetroRefugeeHealthTaskForce,isanactivememberonseveral community coalitions, and is Board Chair Emeritus andmember of the Karen Organization of Minnesota serving refugeesfrom Burma (Myanmar). For the past six years, Joan Cleary hasprovided consulting and management services to nonprofits,foundations, health care, and government, with the MinnesotaCommunityHealthWorker(CHW)Alliance,abroad-basedpartnershipofCHWsandstakeholderorganizationscommittedtoequitableandoptimal health outcomes for all communities. Prior to starting herconsultingpractice,Ms.Cleary ledgrantmaking,policysupportandleadershipdevelopmentinitiativesfortheBlueCrossandBlueShieldofMinnesota Foundation including its CHW field-building efforts andupstream focus on social determinants of health. JimHart,MD,MBA,generalphysician(ret.),UniversityofMinnesotaSchoolofPublicHealth(ret.)(Breakout1,p.4).JimHartworkedfor30 years in primary care medical practice and management bothindependently andwith HealthPartners. He has also served on theteaching faculty of Regions Hospital, and directed the ExecutivePrograminPublicHealthPractice,andtheNorthCentralPublicHealthLeadershipInstitute,attheUniversityofMinnesotaSchoolofPublicHealth.Hisprimaryinterestisintheintersectionofhealthandsocietyand in restoringdemocracy toourhealthcaresystem.Dr.Harthasserved on theMinnesota Health Care Access Commission, and hasbeena long-timeadvocateofaunified,publicly-fundedhealthcaresystem. Because of his interest in global health, Dr. Hart has alsoservedon theboardsofWellShare International andGlobalHealthMinistries. Helen Jackson Lockett-El, BA, MDiv, Community EngagementPlanner,MinnesotaDept.ofHealth(Breakout7,p.8).HelenJacksonLockett-El currently works to address infant mortality through ahealth equity lens, among US-born African-Americans in HennepinCounty.Ms. Jackson Lockett-El has recruited and engaged over 20community members to be involved in Community Voices andSolutions (CVAS) LeadershipTeam,whichhasestablisheda shared-decisionmakingapproachinaddressinginfantmortality.Inadditionto years of community engagement, Ms. Jackson Lockett-El hasworkedwithnumerousgroupsfacilitatingandpromotinghealthandwell-being. She has an undergraduate degree in biology from theUniversityofMinnesota,andamaster'sdegreefromLutherSeminary.

LauraJohnson,Organizer,ISAIAH(Breakout4,p.5).LauraJohnsonstarted organizing in 2012 on the campaign against Voter ID. Sheultimately worked as ISAIAH's Voter ID Field Director, leading avolunteer field effort that reachedmore than 37,000Minnesotans.Since then, Ms. Johnson has organized clergy and lay people inchurches in Minneapolis, St. Paul, and the southern Twin Citiessuburbs around issues of racial and economic justice. Her primaryfocushasbeenaroundissuesofworkerjustice.Shehasledthousandsof people of faith in campaigns for Paid Family Leave, Earned SickTime,andSafeTimeinSt.Paul,andagainststatewidelegislationtoPreempt Earned Sick and Safe Time and Fair Wage policies. Ms.JohnsongraduatedfromSt.OlafCollege,andcametoISAIAHasaninternfromYaleDivinitySchool.Sheispassionateaboutunleashingandempoweringpeopleof faithto liveout theirvaluesof loveandjusticethroughparticipationinourdemocracy.

JennyMahoney,RN,BehavioralHealthHomeIntegrationSpecialist,PeopleIncorporated(Breakout8,p.8).JennyMahoneyisaregisterednurse who has worked in a variety of milieus ranging from grouphomesservingpeoplewithdevelopmentaldisabilities,traumaticbraininjury, and mental illness, to working on an IRTS team supportingwomenincrisis.AlongwithhernursingdegreefromAnokaRamseyCommunity College,Ms.Mahoney also holds a bachelor’s in socialworkfromtheUniversityofWisconsin-EauClaire.

EJDeanOlson is anOrganizational PsychologyPractitioner with nearly two decades of experience in health andhuman services, LGBTQ equity and inclusion, and justice-centeredsystemschange.AsClinicalOperationsDirectorforFamilyTree,Mr.Olson supports the clinic toward intersectional and intentional

Melanie Peterson-Hickey, PhD, Manager of Data and Policy,Minnesota Department of Human Services (Breakout 10, p. 9).MelaniePeterson-HickeyisamemberoftheLacduFlambeaubandofLakeSuperiorOjibwe.ShehasbeenwiththeStateofMinnesotafor26years,attheUniversityofMinnesota,MinnesotaDept.ofHealth(MDH),andMinnesotaDept.ofHumanServices(DHS).Ms.Peterson-HickeyservedasthefoundingdirectoroftheMDHCenterforHealthEquity and has authored a number of reports, includingAdvancingHealthEquity:ReporttotheLegislature,IncomeandHealth,andPaidLeave and Health in Minnesota. A Voice for Public Health in Minnesota MPHA can trace its roots to 1907, when health officersthroughout the state organized as the Minnesota SanitaryConference.AstatelawrequiredthattheExecutiveOfficeroftheMinnesotaDepartmentofHealthcallanannualmeetingofhealthofficers,oftenconcurrentlyholdingspringcleanups.In1947, recognizing that the demands of public health hadbroadened in previous decades, the Sanitary Conferenceopeneditsmembershiptoanyonewhowasengagedinpublichealth, inviting citizens to join our health protection,promotion,andpreventionefforts.TheorganizationchangeditsnametotheMinnesotaPublicHealthConference(MPHC)toreflect thepublichealthvaluesandmission,becominganaffiliateof theAmericanPublicHealthAssociation (APHA) in1948.MPHCchangeditsnametotheMinnesotaPublicHealthAssociation in 1959 when the subsidiary of the NationalTuberculosisofMinnesotaknownasMPHA,changeditsnametotheAmericanLungAssociationofMinnesota.

MPHA is an active, credible, independent voice for publichealth inMinnesota. Public health practitioners inmultipledisciplines from the public, private, and non-profit sectors,along with academia and communities, come together tovolunteertheirtimeandenergyaroundsharedvalues,goals,and priorities. MPHA follows its mission “to engage anddevelop itsmembers tomobilize the community to protectandimprovethepublic’shealth.”Wearecatalysts,conveners,and facilitators to champion the public health issues of ourtime.

Archival Collections InApril2017,aspartofNationalPublicHealthWeek,MPHAheld an open house at the University of Minnesota SocialWelfare History Archives, where our records – print,electronic,andmedia–arenowpermanentlyhoused.

Beginning in the mid-1940s to 1981, the MinnesotaDepartment of Health maintained MPHA records. This

collectionwasthentransferredtotheWangensteenHistoricalLibrary in Diehl Hall at the University ofMinnesota. Due tospaceconstraints,libraryofficialsnotifiedMPHAin2011thatitcouldnolongerstoreitsarchives.Sincethattime,theDean’sOffice of the School of PublicHealth has offered temporarystorageandworkspace.InJanuary2017,theMPHAGoverningCouncil approved the transfer of ownership of its recordscollection to the Social Welfare History Archives of theUniversityofMinnesotaLibraries.

The Social Welfare History Archives, established in 1964,collectstherecordsofprivatesectorsocialwelfareandsocialreform organizations as well as the personal papers ofindividualleadersinthefield.ThemissionoftheArchivesistocollect, preserve and provide access to these historicalrecords.Socialwelfareconcernsrepresentedinthecollectionsinclude areas such as: adoption, child welfare, citizenship,communityart,communityorganizationandplanning,familysupport services, housing, immigration and migration,poverty, public health, sexual health, single parenting andservicesforsinglemothers,socialwork,welfarerights,socialjusticemovements, andmuchmore.MPHA’s collection hasalsoincorporatedtherecordingsofAPublicHealthJournal,arecentdonationbyDr.EdEhlinger,MinnesotaCommissionerofHealth,thatareproductsofacabletelevisionshowthathehashostedsince1985.Youcanfindthemasterandsummaryindexesbyvisitingwww.mpha.netandscrollingtoAboutUs;History.
