FLORIDA ENDORSE MAGGIE RIVERA FOR LULAC’S

NATIONAL PRESIDENCY IN 2014

(LULAC’s 2014 National Presidential Elections will be during the national convention in

New York City)

Melbourne, FLA – The League of United Latin-American Citizens (LULAC), Southeast Region

national vice-president, Juan Carlos Lizardi announced today that Florida is endorsing Maggie

Rivera for national president.

Lizardi said that the LULAC Florida State Convention took place today at the Melbourne

HILTON RIALTO, “LULAC members are collectively endorsing the Chicago Latina

leader. Over all, Maggie Rivera has been winning the support from the majority of the

LULAC membership, including most of the larger states in Florida, New Mexico,

Illinois, New York, New Jersey, and Puerto Rico as well. Today, we concur that Maggie

has reached a 3 to 1 support in most of the Midwest, Southeast, Northeast and

Northwest LULAC regions”, acknowledge the national VP for Southeast.

This year’s candidates are bidding to become historic "firsts"—the first woman President with a

finance and legal background.

Maggie Rivera's election to the League of United Latin American Citizens National Vice

President of Finance instantly made her one of the highest-ranking women officeholders in

LULAC and, along with the excitement generated by her finance work, her advocacy and her

speech, placed her high on the roster of prospective LULAC presidential candidates for 2014.

After spending a driven first year in office focusing on LULAC’s finances, solidifying her base in

Illinois, traveling around the USA and Puerto Rico to buttress her Hispanic responsiveness

policy credentials as a member of LULAC National Board. Maggie spent much of 2013 visiting

and speaking to LULAC members around the country and Puerto Rico in addition to mulling

whether to run for LULAC President in 2014.

Maggie Rivera announced her presidential candidacy on February 28, 2014, at a national board

meeting in Washington, DC, where in the past many other national presidents had presented

their candidacies.

Relying heavily on the Internet, Maggie Rivera’s campaign is mobilizing a massive grassroots

organization of volunteers and funders.

From February through early July, 2014, Maggie Rivera and other contestants will battle fiercely

until elections day on July 12, 2014 in the LULAC National Convention in New York City.

Fellow LULAC members, I boldly announce my intention to seek the LULAC National President position. SOME TALK CHANGES, OTHERS CAUSE IT! ¡Algunos hablan de cambios, otros los hacen! We have seen the League from a number of viewpoints, depending on where we've lived and what we've done. For me it has been as a Latino Professional Woman from Illinois. We've seen LULAC up and down on or after we became active in the oldest and most widely respected Hispanic civil rights organization in the United States of America. LULAC was created at a time in our country’s history when Hispanics were denied basic civil and human rights, despite contributions to American society. The founders of LULAC created an organization that empowers its members to create and develop opportunities where they are needed most. You have the power to change your community. In the short and fructiferous career as CFO for our Family Business; a health educator in the Illinois Migrant Council; a business developer and Associate/Latino Services Manager in the Illinois Home State Bank; a Family Services and Community Mental Health Clinician; a counselor in the Illinois Migrant Council Computer Literacy; as the co-founder of the Rivera’s Latino Consulting Firm and LULAC’s National Treasurer has qualified and prepared me to the President’s office. Living in the Latino communities has exposed us to those who often had too little to eat, outnumbering those who had some. We have been fortunate, blessed, learning from helping and working with our Latino communities. Seeking the LULAC National Presidency has given me the strength to pull us up from any set back and becoming the dominant force in the Hispanic communities, Puerto Rico and in the United States issues. We must be the ardent guardians of the Latinos’ civil rights, immigration, health, education and equal pay.
