È gia il decimo anniversario della nostra esposizioneestiva, l’arte alla spiaggia. Per questa quarta edizione, conil comune di Ramatuelle, abbiamo deciso per la prima voltadi organizzare uno one-man show.

Con la collaborazione della galleria Jérôme de Noirmont,presenteremo più di una dozzina di sculture dell’artistagraffitiste americano Keith Haring.

Queste sculture comprendono opere monumentali già pre-sentate in occasione della retrospettiva dedicata all’artistadalla città di New York nel 1997 sul quinto viale. Altri nonsono stati mai esposti in pubblico. Tutte sono rappresenta-tive della tecnica usata da Haring nella sua opera scolpita:l’acciaio dipinge.

A queste sculture si aggiungeranno:

*La BMW Z1 interamente dipinta dall’artista*Il Pop Shop, un insieme di casse mobili dipinte e riuniti checomponeva all’origine il negozio dei prodotti derivati Haringche l’artista aveva realizzato per la città di Tokyo. Quest’ultimo più non era stato esposto dal suo smontaggio,oltre dieci anni fa.

Teniamo a ringraziare il municipio di Ramatuelle e la Prefetturadel Var per la fiducia che ci concedono dagli inizi dell’artealla spiaggia.

Queste esposizioni non avrebbero mai avuto luogo senza ilsostegno dell’insieme dei proprietari delle spiagge dellabaia di Pampelonne e delle V.I.P. Room di Cannes e Saint-Tropez.

Come per le edizioni precedenti, un catalogo di più di 130pagine illustrerà la cronistoria dell’arte alla spiaggia, cheriproduce le opere, l’avventura del loro impianto e la loropresentazione in situ.

Nato a Reading, Pennsylvania (USA), il 4 maggio 1958

1977-79: Comincia dagli studi di grafica pubblicitaria a

Pittsburgh; quindi si installa a New York e diventa allievo

della scuola delle Arti Visive. Fa la conoscenza di Kenny

Scharf e di Jean-Michel Basquiat.

1981-85: Copre di graffitis dei cartelloni pubblicitari della

metropolitana di New York. È uno dei primi a promuovere

un’arte della via. Fa la conoscenza di Andy Warhol.

Prima esposizione alla Galleria Tony Shafrazi, quindi da Leo

Castelli che gestisce i suoi primi passi nella sabbia artistica.

L’artista disegna direttamente sui suoi supporti, al gradimento

della sua ispirazione, generalmente senza disegno prepara-

torio, che crea tipi di idoli o dei a forte connotazione sessuale

e metaforica. Artista originale ed impegnato, numerosi temi

lui tengono a cuore, tale la guerra o la droga, in particolare nella

zona di Harem in cui i suoi affreschi denunciano chiaramente

i pregiudizi razziali e sessuali.

Haring crea un’iconografia ed un vocabolario originale, cer-

tamente uno più spontaneamente del diffuso ed inconscia-

mente imitato nel mondo.

1986: Apertura del “Pop Shop” nella zona di Soho a New

York.

1987: Keith Haring apprende che è raggiunto dell’AIDS e

crea allora la Fondazione Haring per raccogliere fondi per la

lotta contro questa malattia.

Muore a new York, il 16 febbraio 1990
