Re: 1505 North Blvd, Written Description Page 1 of 2 Subject of Proposal: The existing residence located at 1505 North Blvd. in the Broadacres Historic District will be altered via a remodel and addition approved earlier in the year by the HAHC. The English style home was designed by known Houston architect John F. Staub, and is deemed a contributing historic structure to the neighborhood. The home sits on a corner lot with its front façade facing North Blvd. and east façade facing West Blvd. The structure is a two-story brick and frame residence. Prior known additions when comparing the existing structure to the original set of plans provided include three south facing dormer windows at the attic level. It is unclear at what time these features were added; whether at the time of construction as a change to the original intended design or rather a later time. These dormers remain in the proposed project scope. A second floor bedroom addition was also added above the existing single story west wing. Detailing of the brick work and trim closely matches that of the original. The addition will remain as a bedroom in the proposed project scope. An existing south facing steel and glass window was replaced by a wood window at the existing study at an unknown time. Detailing and proportions match the existing windows on the home thus maintaining symmetry along the south facade. This window will be repaired but not replaced. Proposed Work: Approval to move the footprint of a previously approved porte cochere structure to the north approximately 6’-10.” Please note that the main house remodel work & adjoining porte cochere were previously approved by the HAHC and permitted at the City of Houston. The dimensions of the porte cochere remain as original approved. The detailing in the porte cochere transoms which relate to the door transom above the main house entry door all remain in the proposed work scope. The 6’-10” distance was determined in part due to underground utilities encountered during construction as well as in order to create a direct relationship with the connecting structure to the residence (this element remains in place). The footprint relocation has been given approval by the neighborhood HOA. Materials: The porte cochere will be comprised of painted steel columns and decorative elements with a copper roof as well as cast stone column bases. There have been no material changes from the previously approved plans.
